[Q] CWM Nandroid restore AFTER factory reset. UPDATE!!!

I looked, but could not find an answer to this specific question.
Forgive me if it's been discussed before.
Here's the order in which i performed new ZEUS (build 6) install.
1) Titanium backup user apps.
2) manual backup of media.
3) Odin back to stock froyo.
4) Factory Reset.
5) super one click root
6) modded recovery install using cwm from market
7) re-install packages x2
8) install Zeus
9) Titanium re-install user apps.
10) ICS for v6 theme installed
Question: Can i move an OLD nandroid backup into the "_/clockworkmod/backup" folder and restore as if it i had not factory reset and re rooted?

Sorry if all that was unclear.. it was drunk thirty when i sent that.
i went back to stock, then did a factory reset from within froyo:
Settings -> privacy -> Factory data reset.
i copied the nandroid backup to the comp before this, then copied it back to same folder once i rooted and installed zeus and made initial new nandroid backup.
My question is can I restore from a backup that the phone erased and i put back after re-installing CWM.

cwm backup file can be restored in cwm. I don't know if it can be restored by any other means.
You dont have to be rooted. You just need to have a working cwm...I have only worked with Red CWM.
If you are looking to restore a nandroid, I recm booting into cwm. wipe clean: factory reset, wipe cache, advance -wipe dalvik. mount: format system, data and cache. Then restore your nandroid.

That's cool. I'm gonna try it, cause I can throw it under a bus for a new one if it bricks.
My question was backtowherw I started...with a a new file structure... can I restore from an old backupfrom a different file structure.
I was and am rooted fro both backups.
I did and now have red cwm.
I do and will take notes.

this is not a normal nandroid / cwm restore.

or tell me what it you don't understand about my question or how it differs from the MANY cwm restores I've Don from nandroid backup.

I guess no one knows ; That's cool.
The problem is that I forgot to backup all my apps. That's the only reason I wanted restore to a nandroid backup that was deleted by froyo factory data reset.
Now I backup using titanium but apparently lost or deleted the tiba folder after I copied it to the hdd.
At any rate, I only care that I get all apps with data back.
So... is there another way?
Apk extract from nandroid using comp or android?

Not sure if this helps. But I always copy my nandroid back ups to my computer and my sdcard. That way if I ever need to restore, I can just copy the nandroid back up to the clockwork/backup folder.

Just reread, there are a couple of apps that will let you extract apps from a nandroid backup. I for get which ones though.

In order to install a rooted ROM when you have already installed an unrooted 2.3.6 (in my case, the UCLB3 leak), you need to do a nandroid backup, then go back to Froyo stock, root the Infuse, install CWM, then follow the instructions on the box?
In my case, I'm interested in Dman's rooted etc. UCLB3. His instructions start with "Boot into CWM" and I suppose this is the only way to do so!

Reboot into recovery and flash whatever you want

[Q] Problems with Nandroid advanced restore

I actually have two questions here.
I'm trying to do an advance restore of the data from a previous backup using CWM. recovery 5.0.2.7 and having some problems.
In recovery, when I click on 'advanced restore' I am told there are no files. I then choose the regular 'restore' option and it shows the files to choose from.
I can then go back one screen and select 'advanced restore' again and it will now display the list of backups. When I select a backup and try to restore the data, I get a MD5 mismatch error. This happens when I try to do an advanced restore with any of my backups, not just a certain one. Also, I can do a normal restore without any problems.

I've read several threads but most of them seem to be solved after trying one of the above methods. I also haven't seen any that describe the backup list not displaying at first.
Secondly, I found this problem because I'm running Pyr'o'Ice ICS Desensed 1.1.3 and stupidly tried to tether with wifi and my phone got stuck in a reboot loop. I want to restore the userdata via Nandroid recovery, but will that also restore the tether setting that causes that bug?
My main issue is with the Nandroid recovery, but I thought someone reading this might also know the answer to that question also.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

1. Open your sdcard on pc (usb mounted)
2. ensure there is a folder in clockworkmod/backup (ex: 2011-08-10.02.40.28)
if your sure the nandroid isn't corrupted and you want to restore it anyway, you can modify the md5sum.
1. go get a md5sum checker
2.With your phone mounted on your pc...go into the clockworkmod/backups/(yourbackups folder)
3. md5 sum all the images in there (write it down somewhere)
4. open the nandroid.md5 with a text editor
5. replace the md5s with the ones you wrote down
6. Try restoring it again

This doesn't appear to do anything

I'm having exactly the same problem as the OP, and I'm not sure how this will help as all md5sum does is give the md5s listed in the nandroid.md5 file. Using this method, all one is doing is putting the exact same md5s over what is there in the nandroid.md5 file.
I really need a method to make the Nandroid Advance Restore work in order to get back my data after updating to 1.63.531.2.
Any other suggestions? --

Heh, well, in my case, I'm trying not to have to restore my phone from scratch after updating to 1.63.531.2, as well as keep the update. A straight restore will just take me back to DS Mod 1.55.531.3. Advanced Restore would allow restoration of data without overwriting the boot.img, system, etc.
So, no further methods to try to address this error?

then take the system.img from the 1.63 update and put in replace of the nandroids one....then redo the md5 checksum for the system.img like i had showed before

The md5s are already the same.
That also doesn't address the issue why I am told that there are no files found when I try the advanced restore option without first going to the regular restore and backing out.

Investigation ongoing, but an idea to help

This may have something to do with the way in which CWM 5.0.2.7 saves the majority of data to tar files instead of img files. This behavior of CWM is part of the discussion in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1624516
Yogi2010 made the suggestion of using the Modaco 4.0.0.9 recovery for backups that can be successfully used with Advanced Restore. I believe Modaco's AR works because it saves all data to img files.
I'm going to attempt an update to 1.63 using Modaco for backup and then AR of data afterward. If successful, we know that Modaco is the key for utilizing AR due to the file type it uses for data storage.
Why CWM 5.0.2.7 behaves as it does regarding AR remains an open question.
I'll report back to this thread with results after my update attempt --

Modaco functional with Advanced Restore
I used the Modaco 4.0.0.9 recovery for my backup prior to updating to 1.63, then followed with an Advanced Restore of data afterward, which successfully restored my phone environment. So AR is functional with Modaco, but not CWM 5.0.2.7. I don't know for certain if the fact that CWM uses tar files has something to do with its inability to execute AR, but it certainly seems like this is a contributing factor.
I'm going to Google this and see if I can come up with any further info on CWM that might explain its behavior.
So far, it's Modaco FTW. Itz on my fone, reestoring my data --

My problem is that with the data I want to restore, my phone gets stuck in a boot loop. I am thinking that I might be able to install Modaco, restore the data where I can't start up my phone and then do a Modaco backup while still in recovery. Then restore a functioning backup (so my phone boots up) and finally do an advanced restore where I only restore the data I need from the bootloop backup.

That's the original thread Paul (Modaco's creator) posted. I downloaded my copy via Blue's invaluable Developers Reference: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17384145&postcount=7. Scroll down to the Recovery section, and under Clockworkmod 4.0.0.9 Recovery there's a download link; but it's the same file.
As to being s-off, I think that's how things used to be. Obviously, all you need now is the bootloader to be unlocked so you can fastboot flash the recovery img file. Otherwise, I couldn't have been doing all the monkeying I've been doing recently.

My experience is limited, but from your description, I'm not sure if the Advanced Restore option will be the smoking gun for your problem. The way I understand it, ClockworkMod recovery--of which Modaco is an unofficial flavor--takes the equivalent of a disk image of your phone while the OS is inactive (like many disk imaging programs for the PC). If you've got some ratty data causing the boot looping, that data is going to be stored along with everything else in the snapshot during backup. It will also be restored using regular restore or Advanced. So, I'm not certain how using a different recovery module will accomplish your goal of stopping the boot loop. Also, remember that any backups made with CWM 5.0.2.7 will be incompatible with Modaco recovery since it uses only img files.
This definitely needs to go to someone more experienced in troubleshooting Android, I think. Maybe you could edit the title of this thread to reflect the boot looping problem. This will hopefully get someone like Blue involved to help out. Sorry not to have a definitive answer for this. I suppose you could flash Modaco (same as you flashed CWM 5.0.2.7) and see if it does what you're hoping it will do. Best advice I can give.

I DID change the backup filename so I could find it easily in my backup folder, but it was doing the same thing even before I changed it.
Anyone else have the same issue?
Also, is there a way to restore the images through adb/fastboot, even though they were created by cwm recovery?

Check your backup filenames and make sure they don't have any spaces. If that isn't an issue, you might try reflashing CWM and see if that resolves its difficulties. CWM shouldn't be behaving as you describe if it has been installed properly. Only other thing I can think of is looking into any item installed on your phone that could possible not play nice with CWM. I don't know of any myself, but it's a possibility.

Noob question about reverting from custom kernel

My GT7+ has the LB2 firmware. I have not seen any copy of this firmware for downloading. Therefore I have been cautious and stick with the stock kernel and FW.
I installed garyd9's CWM and made nandroid backup. I want to try garyd9's custom kernel, but I read the warning on his post about compatibility with some firmwares.
I wonder if I flash his custom kernel and it fails, can I revert back to my stock kernel through nandroid restore?

Nandroid backup is a complete backup of your phone. When we say complete, it means everything on your phone – your apps, data, your current ROM and even the kernel. It is like creating a full system image of your phone that can be restored later, when required. - Restore from a Nandroid Backup via Recovery:
1. The first two steps are same as above. Boot into Recovery and navigate to the Nandroid screen.
2. Select ‘Restore’ to start the process. If you choose the ‘Advanced Restore’ option, you can select which component of the backup to restore – like the boot, system, data or cache. 3. Reboot system. Your system is now restored and is exactly same as the time when the backup was taken.-- Backup and Restore Using ROM Manager:
If you think the above process was easy, backup and restore through ROM Manager is even easier. ROM Manager automates the whole of the above process giving you the option to do these operations with a single touch. Just choose ‘Backup Current ROM’, enter a name for the backup and the phone reboots to start the backup process. There, your backup is complete. To restore, launch the app and select ‘Manage and Restore Backups’. Select the backup that you want restored and ROM Manager will do the rest.
You can delete or rename the backups as well.

BTW, I see that there is no copy of the official Samsung LB2 firmware floating around. I do not know how to make a tar file for the firmware / ROM, but would anyone be interested in a nandroid copy of the LB2? I can reset the tablet, go to CWM to save a nandroid copy of the default firmware, then restore my own running copy.

[Q] Error while restoring nandroid of old GS3 to new replacement GS3

I got a replacement GS3 from Verizon because my current one had a charge port issue. I rooted and am using CWM 6.0.2.3 and get "error while restoring /system" when I try tp restore the nandroid of my old phone to the new one. How do I fix this?

Did you change the name of the nandroid at all? It's also possible that the backup you made contained individual phone information specific to your old phone...I seem to remember a thread before that mentioned it wasn't a good idea to move a nandroid to a new Samsung phone.

there are a couple of apps where you can just extract the nandroid apps on the play store, but if you want the full restore, the file is probably corrupted.

Yeah I used to use titanium backup but my phone is very customized, CM10, diff kernel, and a very highly customized home screen so I'd rather restore the nandroid if there is some kind of workaround. I also want all my data, texts, etc. without using titanium backup. When I used ti backup in the past, I had a bunch of different issues restoring apps and data, force closes, etc.

I followed the directions in the last post of that thread.. I made a backup of the new phone, moved the old nandroid from old phone to the twrp back up folder in my new phone. I copied the new backup name and deleted the new backup. i pasted the name into the old back up, I tried to restore and i get an error "no partitions selected for restore. Is it because Im using twrp and I made the old backup with CWM?

That could be it. They back up with different formats. Cwm uses the blob folder twrp does not.

Hello guys, this is going to be a long post andam very sorry about that. So, I got a Samsung galaxy note2 and I want to install the latest firmware which is version 4.3. Also, I'll like to try some android 4.4 custom rom. Am currently using version 4.1.2. Seriously, i've searched many threads without a satisfactory answer before restorting to start one. Before going on this adventure I'll like to do a complete backup of my original rom so i can go back to it anytime. I've decided to use nandroid for the full image backup (clockworkmod) and titanium for subsequent application and applications data backup. I know what these two apps do but I still have some questions.
1) What's is the safest way to root and unroot my device?
2) what files/apps do I need to do a nandroid and titanium backup and where do I get them?
3) can I keep this backups on my external sdcard, will I be able to access it from external sdcard on recovery mode incase my phone crashes?
4) someone said even after using the nandroid backup, I'll still have to Flash the kernel, what does this mean and how do I do that?

2) CWM needed for nandroid backup & Titanium Backup app is needed for data backups.
CWM would be available in dedicated threads for your device.
Titanium Backup app would be available in playstore

for cwm check your device forum and you b=can take nandroid backup and if anything goes wrong you can backup with that
and for your question what all nandroid backup include here is the answer
nandroid backup includes
system partition
cache partition
data partition
boot partition
boot partition means kernel is included in boot partition only so kernel is also backed up in nandroid backup

if you restore nandroid backup you will automatically get stock kernel because nandroid backup includes boot partition where kernel is found
no need to flash kernel everytime
and you can keep kernel anywhere but if you simply download kernel image file or md5 file you an install it only with universal kernel flasher or adb you cant install that file directly in cwm
it must be a flashable zip to install in cwm to install it
