Very strange issue.
After trying LeeDroid, I didn't like it, so went to recovery, deleted data/cache, and installed Inspired Ace (via recovery).
After booting up, the LeeDroid wallpaper showed up . . .
The system info still shows Inspired Ace. Why are there some LeeDroid files, despite my clearing data/cache?
*EDIT*
Now I'm having superuser issues, saying that my phone isn't rooted.
. . .?
*EDIT2*
Is it because LeeDroid is EXT4, and Inspired Ace is EXT3, and formatting to EXT4 screwed it up? Anyway to format back down to EXT3?
Go to recovery then select mounts and then format boot, data, system and catche. Just wiping data and catche sometimes doesn't do it.

Mounted and wiped it all as you suggested in recovery, and re-installed Inspired Ace from the .zip.
Now it's more like stock Inspired Ace, but I'm having force close issues (FC like 3 different things, every minute), and zero bars; no service.
What's going on...?
I'm now trying to re-download the .zip via ROM Manager, instead of my laptop...

^ That fixed the force close and the signal, but I still have LeeDroid wallpaper...
I never used that as my default wallpaper, so Google shouldn't have backed it up as one.

Well check the md5 and ensure the numbers match. A bad download, can result in this. Afv in market helps with this

Has anyone else noticed leftover apps or info from your previous ROM that should not be in your current ROM? I am noticing this after the GB leak and the GB leaked based ROMs.
This is my process whenever I flash a ROM.
Boot into hboot and flash radio if neccessary.
Boot existing ROM and remove radio file from root of SD card.
Boot into recovery and clear data/factory reset. Wipe cache. Wipe Dalvik. Wipe battery stats. Fix permissions.
Flash ROM in recovery.
Flash kernel in recovery if neccessary.
(I don't use any type of app backup like Titanium or something like that. I just don't mind putting my apps back on because I don't have much to begin with.)
Now some examples, I flashed Teslacoil which I was running for about a week. It has a file manger app that I did not download. Then I flashed dhemke17's plain debloated GB ROM. The File Manager app remained in there which I thought was a little weird because he didn't say he was going to include it but I didn't pay much attention to it.
Then I flashed jcases GB ROM and played with it a little and noticed I couldn't lock GPS for the weather clock. Flashed back to dhemke's ROM and couldn't get a lock with the clock either but the first time it locked fine.
It seems like to me when flashing between other chef's roms it may be carrying over apps and/or info. This might be why we have been seeing extremes from both sides of some have been having great experiences and others it doesn't work for them at all.
Maybe flashing back to stock first before flashing to a new rom may he in order, I know we had to do that with some of the old skool winmo phones (remember those days?).
Anyhow, has anyone noticed these types of instances. Those of you who may be flashing to another's rom try to take notice and see if anything carries over.
Thanks gang!
And just to be sure, I do a wipe everytime I flash someone else's ROM.

This also might be why some devs have been seeing their work in others Roms without being given credit.
Just guessing on this one.
Sent from my DROID PRO using Tapatalk
I also noticed, I don't like Sense so I normally change some of files to get a Sense-reduced experience from the GB Roms since we don't have a Senseless GB rom yet. I use Root Explorer to change the extension to .bak, when flashing the rom and doing this process for the new rom it would have the new file and still have the .bak file. So it would have like a Rosie.APK file and a Rosie.APK.bak file.
Sent from my DROID PRO using Tapatalk
I've also noticed something similar.. I also wipe on every install even updates to the rom i'm currently running. What I noticed is that after about five to ten minutes the wallpaper will change back to a custom one that I have saved on my sd card. Also when I turn on wifi it still remembers my password and connects to my network. to me if it isn't wiping these things it may not be wiping things that will conflict with any changes to my rom.
Now what I do is wipe data factory reset 3x, wipe cache, wipe davlick 2x, wipe battery stats ..thats clears out the issue I explained above.
To my knowledge that is just the built in restore Froyo has. You probably click to allow Google to store/backup your apps on setup, right?
Built in restore or you are not wiping.
Devs are seeing their work elsewhere because "devs" are asses.

OK so why am I seeing the .bak files when I change roms? It only does it from the rom right before it. Like I said I flashed from Tesla to dhemke and it had the file manager app. Then I flashed to your rom this was your first GB leak. It did not have the file manager but the weatherclock was not finding my current location. I flashed back to dhemke and this time there was no file manager app and weatherclock would not find current location. Flashed back to Tesla then back again to your rom jcase because you updated yours and file manager was there and weatherclock locked.
If the devs are being asses that's fine I was just throwing that out there, but I am sure our phones are not complete wiping when going from gb rom to gb rom. Like I said I wipe everything everytime because I don't have much crap to begin with and I am used to reinstalling my crap from the winmo days.
Try to flash and see if anything carries over.
And the wallpaper and wifi settings like others suggested is from your g account.

Well I do wipe everything before each install via recovery. Read the first post for exact steps I take when flashing. When it boots it seems fresh, I have to resync my gmail account, download and install market apps, reinstall my apps that I sideload via sd card, etc. Just the apps that are in the core rom like in the system/apps folder are still there. I was just on chingys gingeritis version IV then flashed and wiped to version VI. On version IV I changed a few files to add .bak extension to get a senseless version like the Rosie.apk. After I flashed to version VI I went into system/apps and the .bak files were still there.
Again to my knowledge this is only happening with GB based roms. If I am wiping the wrong way please let me know that is why I posted my steps in the first post but that is how I wiped and flashed this whole time. The only thing I can think of is wiping, flash the rom, then wipe again. Or wipe via the settings menus.
Before someone flashes, could they try editing a core app in the system/apps folder with a .bak extension. Then wipe and install your ROM, and see if that .bak file is still there? Thank you.

From looking at the updater-script file of the rom I flashed (1.13.605.7 Debloat/Deodex), it does a rm -rf /system
If your rom's updater-script file does not do that, then you should contact the head dev and ask them to add it in.
If it does have that, then there is definitely something going wrong to cause files to be left behind since that command is literally, "force recursive remove /system"
JM2c
P.S. BTW, wiping does not erase anything in /system. A rom that includes a file manager will have it in /system.
So the rom you flashed after the one with the file manager didn't erase /system before flashing its changes..
Hey guys. I've scoured the web and haven't found anything on this so thought id ask the experts.
When I install a new app from Market, the notification bar shows the "successfully installed Droid DJ Lite" popup for the new app, but also displays "Updating Droid DJ Lite".
Clicking on the "Updating" entry brings up the market page for a totally different app. In this case it pulled up Google Reader.
This happens with every app I install, and clicking "updating..." brings up a random app every time.
Just wondering if anyone else has seen this or knows what's causing it.
I'm running kh2 with CRT on/off with drhonks kh4 kernal, and ext4 is enabled.
I recovered my apps via Titanium Backup after flashing, and have run fox permissions via rom manager.
Thanks in advance.

I should clarify that I was only using Rom Manager to fix permissions, and wasn't actually managing any roms with it.
I flashed back to ICBINB and ran back through the whole process of installing KH2 again this morning, and then wiped cache's and data, and it looks to have fixed this issue.

Yes, go back and reflash drhonk's KD1, but make sure you have the mounts right before you do.
- Boot into CWM recovery
- Go into "mounts and storage"
- unmount /cache
- mount /data
- mount /sdcard
- unmount /system
- Go back
- Go into "install zip from sdcard"
- Go into "Choose zip from sdcard"
- find where you downloaded drhonk's KD1, and flash it.

Hi All,
I seriously read all 17 pages of SAUROM's Dev page and only found 1 other use having this issue but post has no response:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20344195&postcount=31
I also searched and most people have somewhat similar issues but not like mine where it works first time fine then upon reboot Apps disappear.
I've rooted my Infuse a long time ago and have been ROM'ing it for several months now. I've changed several ROMs and some have lots of pieces I love but has issues with something I really need (like bluetooth).
So I gave SAUROM 'One rom to rule em all' a shot. I actually really am impressed upon initial Flash. I made lots of changes, and then lost root/SU, then found SU-fix and applied. It worked for about one day then when I reboot my Apps (including Market) were dimmed-out. So I tried to search but no decent threads.
I thought perhaps another Flash of the ROM would fix, but same issue, then thought perhaps a kernel change so I did that too.
But I just did it again and during first boot everything looks good, I make changes add my gmail acct, use some Apps (actually last time I used Supercharger and installed busybox) but even prior to this it was doing the same thing. Then thinking perhaps it might have fixed it, rebooted and still same thing.
Is there any *.zip or setting that perhaps I can check to fix this? Some script that may help to check where this issue lies? How about fstab file that I can check and edit to fix this??
This happens every time I reboot! I installed apps last night and actually held off posting this, then this morning I rebooted and Apps disappear again (even Play Store).

First thanks for the response bigfau!
I have checked this to see if this option would be a good way to resolve my issue but weird thing is that these dimmed-out apps that appear to be on my sdcard actually go away. If they were truly installed on sdcard like SS above says, then I should be able to:
Go to Settings > Applications > Manage applications > On SD Card >
Select App > "Move to phone" but they're not there, only XDA Premium . (attached SS)
After a reboot, I have to go to My Files, App_Manager > App_Backup > user_apps > Re-install My Apps again. But any reboot puts me back at square one.
1. Uninstall and install your launcher app (don't restore)
2. Wipe your dalvik cache (if rooted)
Try this and let me know if that helps.

*Thanks, your response makes sense as I remember TWLauncher errors with this ROM and think yes my Launcher is the culprit.
Ive been trying to Uninstall and install a launcher (which I thought would be relatively simple).
1. I downloaded/installed 2 different Launchers (Launcher Pro & Go Launcher Ex) from Play Store.
2. Downloaded TW4Manager.apk, tw4key.zip, and ShareApp.apk (for TWLauncer 4.5).
3. Moved TouchWiz30Launcher.apk out of system/apps/ and backed up *just in case*, then rebooted into Recovery and Wiped Dalvik Cache.
When it was booting, it stayed on the Galaxy S boot animation screen for the longest and never booted.
I decided to attempt to Flash Saurom again, (wipe user data, which cache, wipe Dalvik Cache, install ROM zip) and I'm trying again.
But seems like I got some weird chicken/egg thing going on. I can only install apps while booted or phone is on.
Did i do something incorrect?

Hi diablo009,
Sorry what I was referring to was that it seems yes I can install Apps while phone is on, but they're only available during that time (after installed). Its like they are in RAM and lose them if I shutdown or reboot.
I'm sure it's not the ROM I used as stated in the Title because I've recently done lots of testing on my phone. I again Re-flashed the ROM again doing:
1. Wipe user data/wipe cache/wipe dalvik cache, install ROM .zip.
2. Run Su-fix su-3.0.5-efgh-signed.zip
*Ive tried this with and without reboot in between 1 & 2.
Still same symptoms, loads first time fine. Runs setup, is rooted, can install Apps, then upon reboot they're gone.
So I said okay let's test out another ROM to see if same results, and so yesterday I changed to GamerzRom v8.1, then upped to 9.0 and same results with Apps.
I've used different kernel's (DD_03042012.zip & kernel-2011-11-27.12-40.zip), used diff ROMs, and have also attempted to get back to Stock either by using:
-SGH-I997_UCLB3_INFUSE.zip (I guess this is Stock with Root & couple more things)
-Get back to Stock ROM by using Download-Mode and SGH-i997-UCKJ4-One-Click.jar
After either of these, attempt to re-flash and see if problems go away but they haven't.
Weird thing is sometimes I lose SU/Root sometimes I don't. I'm sure it's something I've done to my phone or the filesystem which is why I'd like to be able to check it out, like fstab, mtab (if there's one), permissions or something else but I'm not sure what to look for =/
Thoughts or other areas I can check?
A checklist would be awesome right now if I could find one....
Backup the data you have on your internal/external SD cards, and format them please. And try to install an app, reboot, and let me know if the issue is still present.
SD
I had the same issue. I blamed it on a bad SD card. I removed the SD card all together and never had the problem since. I only had the stock 2gb card in there so it was not worth the hassle.

This is what even I am suspecting now. So only wanted him to format both internal and external. And this one reason I recommend no less than class 6 cards for phones, preferably class 10.
---------- Post added at 04:44 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:39 PM ----------
1. Clean wipe and ROM install
2. Clean wipe with a different ROM
3. Clear dalvik cache and cache
4. Wipe data for launcher
5. Fresh install of launcher
6. Fresh install of apps and no restoring with TiBu
7. Formatting internal and external memory
8. Take out external memory
9. Change external SD card
There's your checklist, as far as I can think of. And I have marked in green the options you said you have tried.
Hi, you just have to replace the file vold. Fstab and place it on /system /etc
Pm with your mail and I will send to you b/c I have it with me but don't know how to upload here
The file is suppose to say that the apps must stay on the sdcard..
Qkster explain that to me very well, if I were you, I look in his roms thread..

Okay glad to report this has helped me! Not sure if the scard (internal/external) was bad or getting full or what but here's what I did:
1. Copied all my data (sdcard [int/ext]) to PC.
2. Format scard: Settings > SD Card/Storage > Unmount SD Card > Format
*Did this for both SDCard & USB Storage
Result in "Lady voice on partioning boot mesg, (basically inoperable phone).
*My fault because I didn't need to do USB storage? Should I have done both SDCard & USB Storage? Either way I think i wanted to restart from scratch with factory type reset/stock ROM.
3. Boot Download-Mode and ROM using: SGH-i997-UCKJ4-One-Click.jar
4. Root phone and tried to Re-flash with custom ROM (Saurom) but need CWM recovery. CWM was in blue-mode, needed Green or Red to flash ROM.
5. Downloading SGS Kernel flasher and flashing it with Entropy's DD
For this I used: DD_03042012.zip, but for me I noticed Market and Maps were "dimmed" out and thought I'm back to square one!
Dunno if this was coincidence or something I did to cause this or what but I think it's important to note because issue seemed to reappear.
I changed the kernel to: kernel-2011-11-27.12-40.zip and dimmed Market/Maps went away.
6. Booted in Recovery, wipe user data/wipe cache/ wipe Dalvik cache, Flash ROM: JVU[2.3.6] SAUROM
7. Booted up, went through SetupWizard, then realized lost Root.
8. Run Su-fix su-3.0.5-efgh-signed.zip
9. Boot phone, verified Root, installed some Apps, and rebooted & Power-Off over 10 times.
All looks good now!
So far its looking like my issue went away!

This is a tweaked versions of CARBON-JB-UNOFFICIAL-B11 so all credit goes to killersloth for the ROM. Without his work this ROM wouldn't be possible. So if you like this ROM please go to the CARBON ROM thread and click the "Thanks" button.
Changes Made:
Replaced Trebuchet launcher with Nova launcher.
Replaced stock gallery with Sony Z Album and Movie app (Facebook & Twitter integration working.)
Added Sony Z Walkman app with UPNP/DLNA Media Server.
Replaced the default kernel with the kernel from CM10.1 Stable by verygreen.
Added BeatsAudio+xLoud+ClearAudio for audio effects and ViPER4Android for the sound engine. Settings I am using.
Added Mobile BRAVIA® Engine for improved video processing.
Modified Adobe Flash 11.1 with Hulu support.
Host level ad blocking. If you are having issues with adblocking see attachments to remove it.
Forced all rendering to be done on the GPU. Should help with gaming and make things more smoother. To help improve performance even further see this post.
GoogleEars.
Kick Ass Kernelizer
Auto-zipalign and defragdb on boot
Auto Calibration on boot. Only does a few programs each boot. So may take a few reboots to calibrate all of them.
Plus many improvements taken from this thread.
I also added some terminal commands.
Run each command with SU first then the command.
fixfc - Fix apps force closing.
sclean - Clean the dalvik cache and cache partition
v6 - run the V6 SuperCharger script. I would run this as soon as the ROM is setup..
Know bugs
Not a bug as such but something you should be aware of. It does take a few reboots to optimise all the apps.
V4A XHiFi may do a hot reboot when first getting root, same with Root Browser. This will only happen once and will work fine afterwards. This is only normally an issue if you try getting ROOT on first boot. On the second reboot this doesn't happen.
Wifi will turn off then back on while it is setting up wl1271-nvs.bin. Once the file is created Wifi shouldn't disconnect.
Any more issues please report them.

If you did not install with full wipe I am note sure it is fair to mark it as unstable. Did you even attempt to clear the app data for the apps foreclosing?
have not tried this yet but just thought labeling the effort as unstable prior to proper install is not fair.

Which I resolved by following the text below. (cribbed from somewhere on the net)
If you go to Settings/Applications/Manage Applications/ then choose the All tab. Scroll down to Contacts open it and clear the data cache. Now do the same again but this time open Contact Storage and also clear the data cache. This issue is related to an Android bug and affects many devices. It's related to apps that use the sync function.
Works for me.
Cheers all

If you did not install with full wipe I am note sure it is fair to mark it as unstable. Did you even attempt to clear the app data for the apps foreclosing?
have not tried this yet but just thought labeling the effort as unstable prior to proper install is not fair.

I agree completely and would urge the poster to revise his comment or certainly remove the subject. Way too hasty and unfair to make such a quick judgment certainly in the absence of a full or data wipe.

Sorry if I offended you.My understanding is that you wipe data only if you are installing in place of different ROM.It was carbon on top of Carbonand I did not feel I needed to wipe data partition.

Dude it's all cool. But I have changed a fair bit to the ROM so just installing over it probably won't work. I have made drastic changes to how dalvik works so using pre-installed apps from a previous install probably won't work.

Do you mind building a version for the Nook HD ?
so using apps from titanium backup would be a problem?

Apps no, dalvik cache maybe. Restoring apps settings and the apps won't be a problem, but using the dalvik cache might be.
The cache is in /data/dalvik-cache. Using that maybe an issue.

thanks.I always clear out dalvik cache anyway when I try new stuff. I was thinking of trying it. the new build of cm 10.1 seems to match up with my tablet perfectly so we will see. thanks for the ROM. the more the better

I did this too, but wiped dalvik, no force closes, but status bar is gone and can't get it back... going to try flashing again...
Just flashed a couple of hours ago and seems pretty rad so far. I'll give it some time to "settle" before passing judgement. Definitely like the idea!
Good to see more options around here. My hat goes off to all devs.

Just flashed it ... Can't see the option "Reboot into recovery" when holding the power button. Is there anyone I can enable it ?

Battery drain so far seems to be no worse than B9 for me.
Definitely like this ROM, it is faster and smoother than any other I tried for my Nook, seems quite stable as well (no random reboots etc.)
