Hi guys,
Is call recording possible on HTC Sensation?
Could you test please:
- Totall Recall
- CallRecorder (DSoft)
and tell me about quality of recording from both sides?
Cheers

I'm also curious on this as call recording is essential to me and I own Total Recall on Symbian (Nokia E72) and would not move to an Android device that does not fully support it (or anything with similar features, but I know of no alternatives at the time).
Asking the developer would be a good idea, but then again, maybe some of you need to... erhm.... recall some calls...

I got callrecorder on dhd and works perfectly. But my dhd is rooted. Don't know if something change in functionality.
Call recorder widget works, but the recordings are pretty quiet.

Callrecorder requires root to fully function properly. This is one of several reasons I'm waiting for the Sensation to be totally opened up.
I have it on my rooted Samsung vibrant and it records perfectly. Mine isn't an app, it is located in the call screen while I am calling.

As I said, to function "properly" it needs root. It obviously functions without root, but not as fully intended.
Results...
Tried Already Total Recall & Call Recorder (DSoft)... (Perma-Temp Rooted HTC Sensation 4G)
Results:
Total Recall -> bit buggy and noisy when recording... (records via mic)
CallRecorder (DSoft) -> clear recording but via mic also... (so... not so loud the "other side" of the conversation)
Nothing even close to CallRecorder (skvalex) on my HTC Inspire 4G...
Nothing new here? any real recording solution?
up ..
this is an essential thing for me ..
anyone found a good recording app for the sensation ??
+ 1
I have tried so many call recording apps but to no avail
All of them are either "speakerphone enabled" or just not recording at all.
I hope after we root our phones we could use a real incall recording.
any news on call recorder now that we have s-off?
I found that when using the hand-free option (or even just the speaker for playing MP3), the sound is crappy. Not sure if related. Are you all happy with the big speaker of the Sensation ?

Nowhere near as loud as old samsungs or nokias i previously owned.
Anyone managed to port the 2-way call recording patch used on Desire HD? It worked flawlessly on DHD, it would be great to have it on Sensation.
No hope at all?
which apps should do it ? please give me 2 or 3 names, and I will test them this after noon. I have upgraded to latest everything ... maybe they will work now with all updates I have. The ones that used to bug or give crapy sound

There's only one posted by avs333, but it's for Desire HD (see: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1048182&highlight=call+recording)
All other call recording apps failed to work or the recording quality was very poor.
It worked perfectly on DHD and i was hoping to see a patch for Sensation.

Please, tell me which ones. I will test them occasionally, and check for updates.
From market you can try Total Recall by Killer Mobile or AutoCallRecorder by Roman G. but these apps use the mic to record incoming voice, hence the quality is poor.
The only app that works properly is CallRecorder by Skvalex, but it requires a kernel patch (see app description on market), which brings me to my original question:
On Sensation, is it possible to patch the kernel to include the modifications required by this app?

Gtalk Video chat works
Noticed a new app called HTC likes
No CRT animation?
Sound has been boosted, At least from the speaker I can notice a big difference. Also the the stock music app is picking up the embedded album art correctly now on my imported iTunes library.
HTC likes was always there, and it's still bloatware :-( the real changes for me are better dual core support and gtalk video, so now you don't poorly supported third party apps, like VTalk. Now I can use a poorly supported Google App!

Is the speaker really louder? I'm dying to get this, but fully rooted and Rom'd up.
Definitely seems louder to me.
Tried the game Cordy off the Market and the graphics spaz out to look like when a desktop pc GPU is dying. Also the stock browser closes all windows except the one you have open when you close it.
I can confirm on 2.3.4 on a stock Sensation by pressing home and power it will take a screen shot and photos will be in the camera shots album.. Pretty freaking nice of them to include this feature
Is there anyway to get the SRS and Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound Profiles on an XE based ROM?
Beats audio is good, but i'd prefer to have the option between them all, & i think the dolby audio while watching videos sounds better.
I'm using Android Revolution HD 3.6.4 on a regular sensation
Same here also, im trying to find a thread that will enable the dolby/srs mobile on ARHD 3.6.2 rom.. Still cant find it..
This is availble for sense 3.5 based roms. I know that. But can't find it for 3.0.

How's your video recording on your phone friend, I tried mine today the video quality is ok but the audio is bad, I mean there's too much base on the audio that you could barely understand the people talking on the recorded video. I took the video inside my room no noise whatsoever.
Have you seen this thread or have you tried the mods they have here. Here is the thread link

Sounds like you have stereo record on as you are recording. Do you have mikes camera mod installed?
I particularly like mikes camera mod, it allows you to manipulate the bitrate for videos. If you don't have it you should get it
But try switching stereo record off in your settings and see if that works for you. If thy doesn't work try clearing data from the camcorder ap then reboot, test it out and let me know

Today I tested move making by my new phone.
I observe that sound from movies are bad, distorted. (movie file checked at PC)
Is this a typical for this device? Is this a software/hardware problem?
Do you mean video recording? If so, yes, stereo sound recording (mono works fine) is clipped and distorted in Sense 3.0 - the mic gain is set on too high. It's fixed in Sense 3.5 if you want to try a ROM with that.

You would need to most likely downgrade to gingerbread firmware and install one of the older Sense 3.5 beta Roms. I used to use Bulletproof and stereo recording was great on that rom.
You might want to stay on ICS/Sense 3.6 and give lgcamera a shot from the market. I use it to get higher bitrate in video and aac audio.

I have seen that many custom ROMs boast built-in two way call recording.
I have Endymion v3.1 installed and would like to know how to record a call.

But is there any way of not recording every call, but having a menu option when in call to record?

Hey all, I'm new to XDA and just picked up a HTC sensation. I noticed the sound quality, coming from an iphone to Sensation, is not even close. Any sugguestions (apps/tweaks) since this model does not come with beats audio already on it? (FYI I have not rooted/unlockd the phone) Thanks in advance.
Root it. Then you can put on a rom that has beats already installed. All it is is software
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app
like the above post says. First root your phone then install any custom rom that has beats audio in it.
root your device.. Then you can install new mods (softwares) which can increase the sound of your speakers or like the above stated.. Use a beats enabled ROM.. The thing about iphone is (after using iphones for past 3 years) its not as customizable as the android phone. And i feel, amongst the android phone.. HTC device has the most quality and best community interms of development.
You can try what you like but nothing I've done (beats/volume+/etc.) has made any real difference and compared to the iphone the sound output is a complete joke (my friends and family with iphones have literally started laughing out the output.)

It actually is embarrassing trying to play a song I like for my girlfriend on this phone and it royally fails. I then sheepishly ask to use her 4S which just abuses this phone. And good luck talking on the phone with the windows down. You won't hear a damn thing.
Literally my only complaint about this phone. Wish they would have put a better speaker in this bad boy.

sensation has a terrible loudspeaker
nothing you can really do about it to be honest. equalizers wont help much since its more of a hardware issue (they used a ****ty speaker)
headphone quality is amazing though
Using srs made my sensation sound better than a 3gs

Sound quality in sensation is hardware issue more than software (although the stock player isn’t good too, as crosstalk problem is really serious). Not only the speaker mentioned above, chip used, amp circuit used are not quite well in sensation. Having beats audio won’t help much too as it is only a (software) equalizer boosting the bass and treble, if you able to try EQ with variable cf and Q, or 1/2Oct EQ, boosting first 3 and last 3(for 1/2 Oct) with 4dB, you'll get what HTC called "beats audio". Qualcomm CPU is also a problem affecting sound quality as it forced resampling the sound signal from 44.1kHz (usually used by CDs and Android will also force resampling to this) to 48kHz(used by video format), which increase the total harmonic distortion.
Few things you can try to improve sound quality of sensation, install music player (Poweramp, PlayerPro, Neutron, Rockbox, etc.), using a better headphone (better with active noise cancellation as mobile phones usually have serious distortion due to wireless signal, monitor, mobile signal, etc.). Equalizers won’t help sound quality but coloring it.

Its not rooting that enhances the sound its the mods you can apply afterwards that will.

We got our Sensation 4Gs with OS 2.3.4 and the audio in/out sucked. The OTA ICS 4.0.3 update addressed a lot of those issues. It doesn't fix the hardware but the speakers sound a little louder and definitely clearer, as does the audio in newer video recordings. Recordings played back from before the ICS update still exhibit "audio crappiness".
root your sensation first
