[Q] Infuse HDMI output not working... - Samsung Infuse 4G

So I followed the instructions on that came with the HDMI adapter and it will not work at all. I purchased a movie and want to watch it on the big screen and this is killing me trying to watch it on the small screen.
What am I doing wrong?

I think that you cant watch media hub movies thru the HDMI output. there was a post about this issue somewhere.

This is correct. I think I read the same post. Movies purchased via Media Hub are NOT licensed for playback on anything except the phone itself. Only Galaxy S phones are licensed for output-to-TV playback per Samsung support.

yep. thats kind of messed up tho. Samsung better clean their sh*t up. starting with their gps on some devices.

hmmmmmm that does suck...
Well It still does not even play the movies I recored myself on the screen. I saw a video on youtube showing that is worked but not with the settings that need to be set to get it to output the phone to the screen.

you should be able to play anything that is not protected. the trailers on the phone work great for me. maybe you have a defective unit, test it with the movie trailers they provide.

Did you connect the power cable to your MHL adapter, also use the charge block & cable that came with the Infuse, then make sure your tv is set on the Input(HDMI 1, HDMI 2, etc) that you have the HDMI connected to. SHould work after making sure you follow these steps.
I couldn't do it with my usual charging block, so I had to use the original one that came with the Infuse 4G.

some times hdmi is funky.is evrything hdmi 1.3? some hdmi devices are incompatable

[Q] Video Out

What kind of modification did google make to the largest Nexus S in bustbuy to have Video out? don't really matter if its video out or hdmi.
techcrunch.com/2010/12/23/giant-nexus-s/
could it be something like a displaylink plugged to it?
i remembered someone did something similar onto a nexus one by reversing the USB port to be a host instead of a slave.
sven.killig.de/android/N1/2.2/usb_host/
any ideas?
or maybe the nexus S does has a video out device.

honestly i have no idea how he would even know its a real NS inside, it could be..you know not
It's probably an opened up phone with a splice from the board to the display.

true, maybe they did just open up a phone remove the screen and take the connections that would normally be used for a screen and hooked em up to the screen using google voodoo
how i hope there is some sort of external hardware to do video out.
i remember reading it somewhere that SGS can do video out via the 3.5mm jack, but not the NS.
www.intomobile.com/2010/07/02/samsung-galaxy-s-video-out-through-3-5mm-headphone-jack-um-yes/
or maybe like streaming straight onto your telly via DLNA. that will be awesome.
I would be interested in this as well, but sadly the SGS and NS are not 100% identical inside.
I used a 3.5mm jack output with a white and yellow connector thingy on the end, sorry for being so technical lol but only the sound played out through the tv no video using the youtube app.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
that would make sense because it is you know, a headphone jack
I think his idea, was that on the SGS that wsa the video out port as well.
using the special nokia 3.5 video out cable
i have the cable, but i don't have an old TV / VCR to test it with.... all my TVs, Monitors, Projectors, Video Players, etc, are all HDMI or DVI or VGA inputs
LOL
it's so hard to find an old RCA inputs now in days

HDMI Audio Problem?

I am not rooted, totally stock. I have tried 2 different HDMI cables and both of them play videos to my LCD TV. But not the audio? Even if I play streaming or from the SD card, no audio. No sounds from any app. And yes the volume is turned all the way up on all volume controls.... media vol, tv vol. Any word on this bug? I have read others having the same problem.
There are posts about issues with certain hdmi cables not working correctly or not at all. There are different grades of hdmi cables which may be the reason. I recommend getting a cable advertised for droid. I got one from verizon store thats for the droid x and works great.
Gremlins are watching you...
Umm, I'm having the opposite problem audio, but no videos. Can play games and stuff and it shows (both audio and video) but if i try to play some movies or something, i get audio only. What's up with this?
Sent from my Droid Charge running Humble 2.2
Yeah I am having trouble too. I want to route the sound out the audio port and just send the video to the TV.
I personally think their is a bug. I have been reading up on this and it works fine for some but not for others. Over at the verizon forms their are a few reports about it. Some say certain cables work on certain HDTVs and then the same setup doesn't work on their friends HDTVs or bedroom HDTV. No consistency or solution, just hit and miss at this point :/

MHL adapter for One S stutters on video

Hi! This is my first post on xda-developers. I'm not sure if this qualifies as a "question", bound for a Q&A...
I have an HTC One S (US, T-Mobile) for which I bought a cheap MHL adapter. The adapter plugs in to the phone's micro-USB port, has an HDMI out and requires you to plug the phone's charger into the adapter, providing charge to the phone. I'm pushing to an old monitor so the adapter's HDMI out goes through an HDMI to DVI adapter before reaching the display.
Everything is working fine except for video. It seems that no matter the video quality, the image constantly stutters. Neither the default video player nor MX Player (on H/W, H/W+, or S/W) will play more than a few seconds of video before locking up for several seconds, then only advancing a frame or two. There's no problem with video when not connected to the adapter. A fresh restart doesn't seem to help and I don't think I have any extra memory-hogging background apps (just the standard Sense and T-mobile apps).
Has anyone else had the same problem? My previous feature phone had a simple S-video out that let me show pictures and videos to my family while on holidays. Perplexing that I'm being outclassed by that old brick!
Thanks for any insights/advice!
No problems with my S and a MHL adapter (video is jerky cause it was recorded using a desire):
Skip to 1.53 for 1080P film playback
Give it a try on some other monitor/TV without the DVI adapter.
Also try BS player lite instead of MX player (although this most likely won't fix it as MX and stock should be perfectly fine)

Indeed, it works like a charm on a proper HD TV without the DVI adapter. Now I wonder if it's the adapter or the higher resolution of the monitor I'm plugging in to, and unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a way to control the output resolution from the phone. Perhaps it's using the highest available or perhaps it has to do some non-native scaling of the video.
Thanks for your help!

What is the res. of the monitor? You should be able to find out what res. it is running at once the phone is plugged in (should be a wee info. box that pops up stating res., refresh rate etc.)
I think it could just be the DVI/HDMI adapter causing problems.
No problem

If it doesn't say that it supports the one S, then don't buy it. It could/should work even if the one S is not listed but I rather not take the risk.

Should work with AOSP ROMs as well.

MHL Cable Discussion Thread

I wanted to make this a discussion thread for MHL cables. Currently, I have a Rocketfish MHL Cable and I love it. It doesn't have to be plugged into the wall via micro usb for it to work, unlike my ONN brand cable.
Other things I would like everyone to discuss, is quality and content. I love the quality of picture that mine displays, pretty sure it's 1080p, but how about other brands?
Now for content. Has anyone been successful in getting a MHL Cable to work with protected material? For example, when I hook mine up and try to watch NFL Mobile, it says "HDMI Is Not Supported". Is there a Rom that will work? Maybe an App to download? Xposed Framework module?
Also, speaking of nfl games, has anyone been successful in getting a Super Nintendo emulator working with hdmi and two controllers for playing multiplayer games?
Basically, let's discuss anything and everything MHL for HTC One M8!!!
I never put much thought into MHL, but came to this topic hoping to learn something. I found your cable on Amazon, and a lot of people are saying it doesn't work. Others are saying it does, but with an adapter. Together, the two add up to the cost of a Chromecast (which I have no experience with), so, what does an MHL cable do that Chromecast doesn't, aside from charging your phone, of course.

I'm hoping to learn something too. I'm going to buy a chrome cast tonight. I did some searching on the web and found out that I can use my HTC One M8 to screen mirror or mirrorcast to my TV. Someone out their has created an App that enables mirroring with any rooted device. Link is here https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23578570567717826
The guys over at Wal-Mart were nice enough to let my play and connect a chrome cast up to my phone. After downloading the file, I was able to watch NFL Mobile Network and Stream Twitch to a TV without any problems. There was a slight lag from what the phone showed, but nothing terrible as the sound and video synced up perfectly on the tv I was testing it out on.
I'm glad I got those two apps to stream to a TV. Not sure if an MHL Cable is going to offer anything more than a chrome cast. I'll see if I can tell a difference in quality or lag input. Thanks for bringing up the chrome cast. I know the HTC One M8 mirror option isn't supported yet, but with the phone being rooted and the extra app enabled, I can now stream anything and everything from my phone to my TV.
I haven't had any experience at all with MHL but do have a few thoughts about it vs Chromecast. I come from a long list of Motorola phones which all came with a dedicated HDMI port. If MHL is the same thing as HDMI, Chromecast is the way to go. At least for me. Since getting the ability to mirror on Chromecast, I really can't think of any advantage of using HDMI. There's a couple of really good advantages for using Chromecast though. Assuming MHL works the same way HDMI does, using it doesn't allow you to do anything with your device while mirroring on the TV. If you do something on the phone, the TV displays it. Also, the screen on your device has to remain on all the time. If you happen to use/stream Netflix or Youtube or some such thing, the screen never shuts off. However, if you use Chromecast for those types of things (or other apps that support it) you can still use the phone to play a game, browse the web or whatever it is you want to do. It has no effect on the movie you're playing. A big plus is you can also turn the screen off while streaming a movie or whatever. If you turn the screen off while streaming a 2 hour movie while using Chromecast, the battery drain is next to nothing compared to HDMI (again, assuming MHL is the same). If you mirror with Chromecast, then things are pretty much the same. The ability to turn the screen off or browse the web, etc.while streaming media is a huge advantage for Chromecast. At least, the way I use my phone, it is for me.
I apologize if my post is somewhat off topic but I figured since Chromecast came into the conversation and I do have experience with HDMI, I'd put my two cents worth in. Just my thoughts on the subject.
FWIW, this cable works on my phone.

Best MHL for HTCOne M8
Hello , I just purchased an MHL cable for my phone and it only works intermittently. You mentioned the rocketfish. Is it reliable and doesn't cut out?

Paring to tv via hdmi

I need help pairing my s8 plus to my tv via hdmi cord. I have google chrome cast but that requires internet. I live in a new apt and I'm holding off on internet as to not have another bill. I would like to be able to watch YouTube and showbox on my tv from my phone. I have a usb c to hdmi adapter and a hdmi cable. The adapter is from radio shack so it's not an official Samsung one. I can sometimes get the screen to mirror but no audio. And it seems like anytime hdmi is detected, my mobile network turns off. Basically like it's an airplane mode.
Any help?
might be something with the adapter. Know anyone else with a similar phone that can test? I got one off amazon and it works flawless. Audio, video, data, etc.
Which adapter did u get exactly? Link please? Did u get the official samsung one? It could be mine as mine is a generic radio shack one. Does ur s8 still operate on mobile data when hooked up so u can steam YouTube and such without wifi?
Yep, was able to play youtube no issues, connected to LTE.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MU9MNUS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I got this one but also if it helps saw this thread today where a guy tested a handful of others including flat out USB C to HDMI cables (I prefer an adapter so I can plug my phone into charge too.)
EDIT: I decided to click on all the ones he had curious what he tested. Not a single one is available for purchase LOL. What a waste of a thread.
