Changing modems on stock rooted 2.2 - Captivate General

Hello, I am running the stock AT&T Froyo 2.2 and wanted to know if I can try an older modem I896UXJL1. If I can what do I need to do and where can I get the modem. It was in cog 3.4 and worked great for me and now the 2.2 uses KB1 which isnt working as good.
Thanks!

Modems
Modems are all posted in the first sticky of the Captivate Android Development sub-forum. I am on 2.2 stock ROM with speedmod-kernel-i897-k13e-500hz-CWM kernel and using cwm2_ugjl2 modem which works brilliantly in central Florida. 12 and a half hours on and 69% of battery still left (with Juicedefender).
Edit: oops just noticed JL1 isn't posted there (which you probably already knew). I still recommend JL2.

JL1
Found JL1 on Perka's file stash (perka.zapto.org)

Thanks guys for the help...... I too have awesome battery life on the stock AT&T Froyo and I get better reception being on the 1897UCKB1 running 3G.
I have another question. I have been trying to get a newer version of camera.apk to work on a stock Froyo and everyone I have tried force closes. Also, I wanted to know if there was a version of extended power menu out there as well. Thanks Again!

[Q] Samsung Canadian Froyo ROMs

Is anyone working on making the recently released for Canadians Sammy Froyo ROMs rooted and repackaged (without bloatware and ready to flash from clockwork) available for AT&T Captivate owners?
already exists but im not sure if either is an official version. we have a telus t959 rom in perception 9.x
there are also a couple bell i9000m jk3 roms including earlier versions of perception. i dont think a jk4 rom has been cooked up but the original is there.
the latest telus rom should work with just a kernel or maybe even using the button remapper app in the market.
kernels are available in the dev section.
Perception/Cognition != Samsung Froyo.
I'd prefer to keep my phone as close to stock as possible, I'll take any Captivate-adapted Samsung ROM without bloatware, even if I'd have to re-root it.
So I'm guessing everyone is into customizing and nobody is looking into getting stock roms for Captivates?

I actually prefer the stock roms for the captivate. I used to flash new roms every couple of days, but really I found one thing or another I didn't like about them.
So here's to hoping our official froyo is not far off.

Same here.............last night I decided to flash the Froyo Leak from DG, root and sideload it. I forgot how great the battery life was on my phone with AT&T ROM's. Moderate use and I was at 62% with 16 hours use.
Now if I could just find the stock lock that will work for JI6 and some more minors tweaks.

[Q] call quality issues after flash

So I flashed speedmod to my US samsung att captivate, running froyo from att release. After I did, people told me there was a ton of static in the background of voice calls and they could barely hear me. So I flash firefly. Same problem. So I flashed new modem, UCKB1. pretty sure this is stock modem. Same problem. What do I do. Can I get back to the stock kernel so all will be good again. Is there a modem that I can flash while having custom kernel that will fix this issue. I'm definately willing to go back to stock kernel if that's what it takes. Btw, the answer is no, I didn't back up the original kernel. This was my first time, and the only back up I did was titanium. Plz help. I need my phone to TALK to people

i answered your pm, try kc1 modem before changing roms again, ill post link in a sec
edit: here it is

if you still have problems just flash a rom based on kb1. i dont want to keep sending you through a loop if the i9000 stuff wont work for you
Hmm You shouldn't have had the problem out of the box with firefly?
your issue at first was using an I9000 kernel with an I897 modem ... Now it's the opposite situation.
the speedmod kernel i flashed specifically said it was for the att captivate I897. so can i get back to stock kernel?

Speedmod is reoriented from an I9000 kernel to work on the captivate, so yeah it's for the I897 but we call those I9000 kernels cause we're lazy ... Look in the dev section there are a few kernels made from kb1 it will say so in the header...
Or you can try an I9000 modem ... Dani897 suggested kc1...
Exact same problem...
Like Club33, I chose to stay with Official Froyo and just flash the Speedmod kernel. I too, got complaints that my calls sounded very bad, although on my end, the reception was perfect.
After following Dani897's instructions to flash the modem_ugkc1.zip, my call issues disappeared.
As a newb, it was not made clear that using the SpeedMod kernel on Froyo would cause call issues. Flashing to a compatible modem for Froyo users should be clarified on SpeedMod's page.
Thanks so much for your post, Dani897.
Nevermind.
So what's happening here is a mismatch of the kernel and modem.
If you use a i9000 based kernel (like Speedmod/Onix/etc) you MUST use a i9000 based modem (like JK4, JQ1, KC1, etc).
If you are using a Captivate based kernel, like KB1, you must then use a Captivate based modem (like KB1 modem).
If you don't, things MIGHT work, but you will have the crackling sound, bad reception, poor voice quality, etc problems that you are describing.
Long story short: don't mix and match i897 and i9000 modem/kernel pairings.
And PS, here's a link to the Modem Thread in Captivate Development. Any further questions regarding modems should probably be done in there.

[Q] need a rogers nexus s setup help

Hi all,
I got a Nexus S a few days ago. It was an original rogers phone that was working on ATT in the US for the last month.
The phone is rooted. But it is not working properly on Rogers (Apparently it worked fine on ATT).
Does anyone have a rooted rogers Nexus S that is working properly on 3G?
If so, what are you running for ROM, Radio, CWM, etc?
Thanks in advance,
I have been pulling my hair trying to get this fixed.
Heeter
Rogers Wireless Nexus S
Rom: SuperAOSP 8.0 Android 2.3.4
Build #: GRJ22
Baseband: NO DGSXXKD1
Kernel: Netarchy Nexus S 1.3.0.12 CFS 2.3.4
Recovery: Clockwork Mod v 3.0.2.4
Runs perfect on Rogers here in Vancouver. Check your other thread to see if the radio i posted fixes your 3G problem. It happened to me too when i originally flashed SuperAOSP, but finding the right radio will definitely fix it.
I have an I9020a running on Rogers. I've run stock, cyanogenmod, and a couple other custom ROMs without any loss of 3G. I am currently using CM Nightly 84.
I've also experimented with the various NS radios available and haven't experienced any loss of 3G connectivity. I am currently using the 2.3.4 radio.
Have you checked your APN settings to make sure that you have the Roger's access points inputted?
Thanks for your responses, Guys.

[Q] Suggestion on upgrading ROM from Froyo

Hello,
I would like to run a custom ROM for my Rogers Froyo 2.2 Samsung Galaxy S Captivate.
I have already rooted, printed Rogers APN settings and backed up using TitaniumBackup, but want to know the best way to update to Mosaic V.
Perhaps there are other Rogers users(I'm in Toronto area) that prefer other ROM's...I would love to hear your suggestions.
I'm mainly looking for reliable GPS, faster response and stable.
I appreciate any help.
thanks!
Martin
well I'm not sure what differences there are between rogers and att captivate, but once I rooted and backed up I just rebooted into CWM and install whichever rom I downloaded to my phone. I'm using CM7, the RC that just came out.
