I am having serious browser lockup issues.
My stock browser will normally load to about 90% and then just freeze . I will have to let it sit for a good 5 or more minutes to finish loading. It sometimes requires a battery pull. I have the same lockup issues with Opera mobile.
I have tried tweaking my cpu with pimp my cpu but the issue persist regardless of the changes I make.
Has anyone else experienced this and found a solution?

I am getting random reboots and I am unable to figure out what is causing the problem and I have not found any thread about random reboots with the Captivate.

Provide us with more information. Is your phone rooted, on a custom ROM maybe, what have you been doing to your phone, when did this start happening, etc.
History
I started with stock, rooted, non-market apps, unhelpful kernel v1.2, removed AT&T bloatware. LCD density @ 180. Tried One Click Lag Fix v1.0 and v2.2 and uninstalled. Juice Defender to manage 3G. Juice Plotter to track battery.
After messing around with it, I encountered a reset of the default launcher selection each time I long pressed the home button to bring up the recently used programs. I then did a hard reset and that fixed that problem. After the hard reset, my Captivate ran great! I found it responsive and fast enough without the need to try and apply any lagfix.
I then reinstalled my selected applications. My phone started to randomly reboot about once a day. I noticed Juice Plotter's data would be lost and it had to rebuild. It also happened to reboot on me once while I was using it. Other than that, it has not really affected my usability.
If it hasn't affected your usability, do you want to fix it?
If you do want to fix it, then the best way is to restore to Stock and add things slowly until you determine the problem. If you return to Stock and it still reboots, then you have a hardware issue.
It doesn't "quite" affect usability but it is not working "normally" either.
Was hoping to see if anyone else have experienced random reboots and how to troubleshoot it. If not, I will try out Odin one-click flash to stock...
Hi.
I'm on the stock gingerbread. Have root, v6 supercharger script etc. Working on stock ROM and lg Launcher.
I'm wondering what these lines :
" hs.systemserver=64m
hs.com.lge.launcher2=64m "
In /system/build.prop means, and what effect it can do. I reduced heapsize from 64mb to 36mb to avoid freezes during a heavy multitasking. I use multitasking option in supercharger script. I use some background apps, and there is annoying freezing, and phone is not responding like if a ram policy was bad. It happens under the heavy usage, while using heavy apps (more than one) Phone sometimes reboots during this long freezes, and sometimes after long time wakes up with a screen that some app is not responding (then I kill it and phone is fine)
Can I delete these lines in build.prop ? And do it help in anything?
What else I can do?
Do anybody have an idea why stock GB ROM lags from time to time, and these lags are quite long if happen.
The reason I don't want to change to a custom ROM is that I want to have some things that are stock (dialer, lock screen, notification bar etc.) I would change if they work on miui, or cm7 became stable..
My stock gb rom is fast and not laggy so it's probably an app in background hogging up cpu or ram. Try using a task manager to stop apps you don't need from auto starting and then reboot.
If you are rooted you can also stop lg bloatware from running too.

Yep, i'm working on it, stopping a bloatware, using different Launcher, and uninstalling unnecessary and possible lagging apps.
But, i'm afraid that either there are some malfunctions in the stock software, or I have this occasional lags and memory issues because I didn't do a wipe after the update from 2.2 to 2.3...
No person with such issues that sometimes an app is not responding and Android hangs, lags, not responing, and reboots ?
I must check deeper my problem... Maybe too many apps installed and running in the background...? I will check.. Cause it annoys me quite a bit.
I didn't do a wipe but when I did a factory reset things improved a lot except battery issue which is sorted now so maybe try that option?

As far as I know to Wipe means a factory reset, so I think its the same thing.
You tell that the battery issue is being sorted out by LG itself,.or you mean that there is a solution here on xda forum? Any help will be appreciated. My battery life is fine but reading the battery usage is really messed up on every GB ROM I think. That is what they should work on..
I loved sidekick 4g but hated how it always randomly crashed on me (it would vibrate, pause, then vibrate 3 more times before rebooting). I thought installing glorious overdose might fix the problem but it still seems to be acting up. Can anyone with sk4g relate to this problem?

Could you clarify on what you were doing when it freezes up?

It actually ranges. Playing games or multi-tasking would cause the phone to crash, but what's unacceptable is that I could exit out of my app drawer or go into a texting application and my phone would reboot on me. I heard it is very common for the sk4g to do this due to a bug, but I haven't heard it talked much about here on xda.
I've had these problems too, and have tried to figure out a root cause through trying varied roms and removing different apps. I'm beginning to believe I just have a bad device...
...I have noticed that it has lessened since I gave up and went back to the original software w/ last update. I've also stopped using apps that poll GPS... (playing foursquare or checking in w/ latitude and geo-tagging photos would frequently give the vibes and lock the phone)
I still have the issue on occasion during varying gmail operations...
...I do, however, have more frequent random reboots.

Try loading a fairly non-touchwiz rom like GingerClone.

I'm running glorious overdose now, but noticed that it still occurs sometimes. Not quite sure if its more or less frequent but it seems unchanged as of now.
KJ2 still has the problem where the launcher gets thrown out of memory, so if you are doing some heavy task and then switch back to the homescreen it has to reload the entire launcher at the same time.
Seems to happen less on GingerClone than KJ2 stock or KJ2 based roms, otherwise you'd have to run the v6 supercharger script.
Seems pretty solid so far on KJ2 with v6 supercharger set

This happens to both me and my wife. It started with the July 2011 update. The most recent update made it happen less, but here's when it happens:
1. browser scrolling
2. startup of maps
3. typing address in maps
4. sms conversations list open
I'd like a recommendation of a rom to run that supports the task-list ("Jump") key. That's really useful. I ran CM6 on my Android G1 and it was pretty good, but that was after the G1 was discontinued. Tmobile is *still* advertising the SK4G in the newspaper, and it still crashes doing its own stuff.
Hi, I have problems with my HTC Senastion screen:
from time to time it freezes and nothing can be done about that. I can still use "normal buttons", but nothing more. After some time it just "unfreezes" and everything is like normal.
Can this be due to overclocked GPU?
Also, I have discovered that it appears randomly after reboots: sometimes after reboot I experience this issue, sometimes not.
EDIT: Hmm, as I see, only some parts of UI are lagging. For example status bar is working ok (no always but still). Moreover, the buttons like: home, menu also are not responding.
Which launcher do you use?
Nova luncher.
Never happened to me,
your problem seems to be an Hardware issue..
you can try to restore your sensation with the Stock RUU and send it back to htc
I had this problem using an overclocked kernel. Reverting back to the stock 3.32.401.5 kernel fixed the random freezing and reboots.
I'm now using SebastianFM's 1.4.1 overclocked kernel and things have been fine. No random reboots or freezing/lag.
Hi, I have a problem with random reboots on Revelation Rom. I already know some users have already reported some issues with it. Full reboots are totaly random, they happen when i dont use the phone (sleep), when i try to unlock it, or doing anything like typing a message, using web browser, etc. Ofcourse i did a full wipe befeore install, installed rom with default settings, i also didn't restore any apps, or something.
This is my last_kmsg from last reboot, i hope it will help SebastianFM to solve the problem (i believe there is one, other roms work like they should and i think i also do everythig like i should during install and after).
Can't post it in dev sectcion due to 10 posts restrictions.
Cheers.
Use 1188 mhz max cpu frequency, no cpu control software, I don't have reboots.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using Tapatalk 2
I have already tried to set 1188, 1296 and 1512 during install, all options gave me the same results, so i think it is not realted to CPU max freq.
I don't know if we have the same problem, I have my sensation turning off randomly for no reason what so ever. The weird thing is when it is plugged in, it doesn't turn it self off. I already brought a new battery so shouldn't be that. I also tried putting some paper in the battery section in case there was a lose connection. Played around with software, got nothing changing ROM, changing CPU freq, changing radio... nothing helps. I think mine problems are random reboots + shutdown, so it is not all ways the case it has rebooted. But when it does do the random reboot, it is often when I am trying to wake the device. I have no idea when it shuts down since when I try to wake it, it was shut down. Then I had to hold the power button to turn it on. Lastly, I think i get mostly shutdown.
Well, i don't know what is causing your problem. If you change between different roms/kernels/firmwares/radios/etc. and problem always exist, it can be hardware related.
Mine only appears on Revelation rom, and i always get the full reboot (no soft reboots or shutdowns).

These reboots are caused by kernel 3.4.10, not ROM, so we may continue this discussion on my kernel related thread. Reboots occurs only on few devices. I received many kernel logs, but I didn't find the reason, errors are different for each user.
The 12th day on the Revelation ROM and not a single reboot.
Also writing here due to the 10 post's rule eek
Will go back to the Revelation thread after this post because I really like the SebastiamFM's work and I have none of there mantioned problems (maybe one or two).
I was havign problems on the begining thoe... i couldnt startt the phone. It rebooted when I had to insert the PIN code or before the Sense even managed to load. Then I formated everything (including the SD card) to eliminate any "remains" of previous ROM's and i set the GPU on 300 and the MAX freq to 1520 and from than till now not a single lag.

Try using performance governer instead of ondemand.
Happy to help.
You could try reseating the battery or securing it a bit tighter, some users have reported reboots because of the battery being somewhat 'loose'.
