When my screen is locked, I unlock it and make a call and hang up, my phone will go to sleep in 5 sec. Regardless of the timeout setting.
Does anyone else notice this?
2.3.3 and 2.3.4.
Since the update my screen every so often stays on. I have to go back to display settings and set a new time out

Now that you said that my phone did that tonight.
It just wouldnt go to sleep.
Stock phone and still to many bugs.

Did you do a factory reset after the update? I always make a habit of doing a full factory reset to wipe the phone clean and reset the firmware. I haven't had that issue or any serious issues really, v2.3.4 works the same as v2.3.3 for me.

I've noticed that, but it may not be a bug. When the display is locked and you receive a call, answer, and later hang up, the phone locks the display again. Perhaps the phone simply locks the display presuming you're done with the phone. Logically if the phone was already awake it should stay away until the screen times out. Did the Nexus originally do that?
Maybe is is by design.
I didnt do a factory reset either, its working pretty good right now.
Have not reset. The reason I moved from symbian was in part having to reset all the time I thought the grass was greener over here?

Has anyone had this happen to the GS4G? It used to happen occasionally, but now it's often. After every call that's ended, my backlight resets itself back to the dimmest setting. I even set it to the automatic setting & it still does it & I have to manually go back in each time to brighten the screen. I realize there is a sensor that blacks the screen out when talking on it, but that's not the case. The phone is stock, & unrooted. Could this be the sensor gone bad?

well for starters...fyi, the super amoled screen doesnt have a backlight...thats what makes it able to accomplish the deep blacks..just so you know
but, silly question, have you tried rebooting?
Pardon the wrong choice of word "backlight", I was just trying to make the question as simple as possible. Also, I rebooted several times since this has been going on to no avail. It's been a going on for about a month.

gotcha,
the only thing I can think of is a faulty sensor, a possible hard reset, or your holding the status bar and dragging your finger across the top of the screen, which is a gooseegg way to adjust the backlight if you have the auto brightness turned off.
Yeah, I was just had a chat with T-MO & they said they had to replace 5 since these came out & it was out of the batch that had the FEB. sticker on the box. They assumed it was the sensor, but no real confirmation from the techs. But they had me place the phone face up & call my VM with the speaker on, then flip it over face down during the call & then back over then end the call, guess what?, same thing. So they're going to send me one out. I guess i'll tinker around with this G2x for the time being, I tell ya, i'm gonna miss the superamoled, lol, talk about a BIG difference. thanks man
Don't ask why but try doing the following:
- Settings -> Sound -> Haptic Feedback. UNCHECK (turning it off)
- Settings -> Language and Keyboard -> Android Keyboard Settings -> Vibrate on KeyPress. UNCHECK (turning it off)
I've had good results since doing this without changing anything else, phone has been more stable and no random reboots or freezes yet. Theory is due to the custom driver/vibrator used in the LG G2X (per CM7 team) there's a memory leak or some bug that over time causes the phone to reboot/freeze.
Why I think this:
- A few times in the last few weeks it froze was when a notification came in (GMail, SMS, etc.) that would have caused the phone to vibrate but instead of doing so it just did the SOD. Know this because I have a XOOM with me (3G) and emails come to both XOOM and G2X same time
- If I leave everything on, after about 2-3 days of use the vibrations start getting wonky with some lasting longer than they should or just not doing it properly
- Had a similar issue with CM7 on my Verizon Incredible where vibration issues would eventually lead to a reboot/freeze
NO GUARANTEES THIS WORKS. But I wanted to share and get more feedback. Please make these changes and then restart so its fresh. You don't need to disable vibration alerts, just the haptic feedback and keyboard vibrate.
Please post your feedback. Thanks.
I dont have reboots and never have those on...I'm gonna turn em on and see what happens..
I just turned mine off as suggested... I am on my 2nd G2x and am experiencing reboot issues already. I will keep you posted after a couple days on the results.
Thanks for posting this potential fix.
Had these off ever since I got the phone, haptic feedback gets really annoying. Will put them on and see what I find
I have had those on and had no reboots.

Might be related to hw. The vibrator in the phone is a piece of hw so maybe some versions have problems and some don't. I know while my Incredible had vibration problems on CM7 others didn't with same exact software.
I wanted to see more if people getting reboots benefitted at all from these or not. It you don't have reboots at all this post is irrelevant.

It might have more to do with the software. I've used the stock ROM, the leaked 2.3.3, and Cyanogenmod, and all three use different vibration models. The 2.3.3 was particularly bad, CM7 is probably the best.
Bought my G2x on the 9th( So, hello! I'm new ) and everything was great until... yesterday actually. Had a bootloop and had to factory reset, then it locked up later. Then today it locked up and I pulled the battery and just now it didn't come on when I tried to unlock it.
So... I'm trying this. Hopefully it works. D:
If not, I'm gonna have to get a replacement or something. I'll be back with a follow up, some time.
For those of you who try this, please update here after a day or two. I am likely to let T-Mobile switch my phone out to a Sensation today so I may not have a G2x to play with any more. I really like it and if there is a simple fix I'd be willing to give it another go.
Trying it now
I haven't had it reboot on me since I did a factory reset last week...
I'm going to turn off the vibrate settings as described in the first post. I'll come back in a few days to respond if I've had any reboots, freezes, etc.
EDIT: I'm also going to reboot after changing these settings just to make sure they "stick" and the phone is "fresh".
Day 1, no freezes.
I charged the phone and it didn't freeze either...
It's Day 2 now and I'll let you know how this goes down as well.
I haven't had either of these options checked since I first got the phone. I have a reboot approx every 1-2 days and a freeze every 3rd time.
Another strange thing
It's been over a day and a half after I've turned off the haptic feedback settings described by OP and no reboots or freezes yet. Even while using wifi calling and heavy camera use and very heavy picture uploading directly from phone to picasaweb.
Something else strange that happened to me before that could be related to the vibrate software/hardware is when some one called me it would vibrate and ring like normal but after sliding the green arrow over to answer it stopped ringing, answered the call just fine, but the whole time while talking the motor continued to vibrate in the two pulse way it normally does! Has anyone else had this happen!?

Try wiping your dalvik cache as I've posted in a separate thread.
worked for me. 2 days no problems
day/charge 2 and 3... everything is going well.
Hi, I have a i9020T and just gotten it about 10 days ago.
Long story short the phone was dropped and the screen quickly started changing colors until it completely failed. So I order a new screen replace it, now everything looks good, the phone starts up normally, at this point everything is stock, factory reseted and everything.
Good right, well as soon as I put the phone to sleep it fails to wake up. It seems to function perfectly, buttons work I can unlock, I just can't see anything. Now matter how many times I restart and sleep the phone just doesn't wake up.
So I decide maybe another ROM/KERNEL could fix the problem, I was wrong. I have tried about 2 kernels, and 5 different roms, still nothing.
I am going to try and disassemble to see if there is a possible error, but other than the fact the phone wake up, it seems to work perfectly, CWM everything.
I cannot figure out if this is a hardware issue, but I am sure its not screen related. Hopefully not a motherboard issue.
I have searched google, xda everywhere yet no solution only few cases, but no real solution.
Thanks.
TheLegace.
I'm having the same issue. Then sometimes it randomly starts working again, but soon goes back to not waking up.
as said above. my 4 soft buttons backlight are always on even when i shut off the phone.
im using arhd 6.8.0. when phone is off, a dim light is shown in the soft buttons. when i first installed the rom its very smooth. i tried hard resetting the phone but it still doesnt fix the problem.
its very annoying as it drains the battery even when phone is off. sometimes the backlight flickers adjusting the intensity of the light. help pls. thanks

ok ill try that. but here's the thing. whatever app i use to turn off the backlight of the soft keys. it only dims it to the lowest level and doesnt completely turn it off.
when you look at your phone in a different angle, you can still see a very small light emitting in the soft keys part even when you shut off the phone. i tried reinserting the battery hut it doesnt fix the problem.

Make a backup, do a full wipe in recovery, and reinstall the ROM you want fresh. If the propblem goes away then something is just screwy in your current ROm install and you may just have to set up a fresh install of it.

i hope your right that its just a rom problem because sometimes out of nowhere, all of a sudden when i shut off the phone, the backlights were completely gone(which is what i want to happen).
I'll post the results later. thanks.
by the way, when i used cpu spy it doesnt turn into deep sleep when the screen is off even if there is no apps running.
i left the phone for 6 hours screen off and charging. and only 8 minutes it turn into deep sleep state. the other remaining comes from my lowest speed which is 384. so im joping its just a rom problem.

Wait a minute...when you said the backlight stays on even when you shut off the phone I thought you meant like when you turn the screen off. Do you mean when you physically power off the device?
That's really screwy. If so, something is really REALLY messed up.
Try the following 3 things in this order from easiest to hardest.
1) Remove the SD card. Reboot the phone. See if the problem persists. If it goes away without the SD card, copy your files to a computer, format the SD card, and copy your files back. I give this a 10% chance of working but its quick to test it so why not try?
2) Do a full wipe. Flash a bone stock Sense ROM. Seen if the problem goes away. If it does, wipe again and install whatever you want.
3) Run a full ruu and return to completely stock. If the problem is still there your hardware is broken. If the problem goes away you will have to restart the rooting process. You will have to redo s off, redo superuser, etc. Then flat whatever ROM you want.
Try doing an full ruu back to bone stock. Reroot, and start over with a new ROM. You will have to go through the whole s off process again. But it might fix this. And form the sound of it you have somehow borked things that shouldn't have ever been touched.

Well, when the phone is off, the backlight is already gone. So its ok now. The CPU spy also states that when I turn my screen off, it turns into deep sleep. That one is fixed too. But when I charge the phone and let my screen off, it doesn't go into deep sleep but it consumes the least frequency of the processor which is 192mhz I don't know if that is normal.
I think I have a hardware problem since I sent my phone to replace its microphone flex which includes the lights coming from the buttons. I'll try to send it back to the center since it still has warranty.
Thanks. I'll update you.

Any update on this issue? My wife's phone has many screen problems, but one of the primary symptoms is that the backlight is almost always on in the lower left corner, even after removing the battery and reinserting it, before booting. When I charge it, the backlight gets brighter and I see dark pixelation across the screen. At times the screen has crapped out completely, and it usually appears dark, has some light flickering, blotching, and vertical lines. I'm wondering whether this is an LCD/backlight issue at all or another hardware issue. Don't want to buy an LCD if that won't fix anything. Some LCD/digitizer assemblies have a mic cable, though, so I'm curious about what you found out about that. Thanks
If I have my phone face down on a counter when it rings, when I pick it up the screen is black. Not off, as I see some light, but basically dark.
I cannot see who is calling...can't get it to display.
This actually happens a lot other times. Just now, for example, I just picked it up, and turned it on with finger print. I placed it face down, and picked back up immediately...screen black.
If I happen to have it on and brush the screen across my side, it will go black.
The ringing is the realy annoying one.
Any suggestions? I'm thinking it has to do with something about the proximity sensor sensing the screen against something...but it should let it come on when it's not against something.
Is noone else having this problem? Every time my phone rings, it turns on but stays black. I never know who's calling unless I answer.
I don't know what to do with it. Very annoying.
Hoping someone has a suggestion.

Do you mean Auto Brightness? If so, that is not the problem. I have it disabled and am using an app for brightness control...not automatic.
I cannot find anything in settings about 'auto dimming'.
Thanks for the suggestion though...
You're right. I mean Auto Brightness, it does Auto Dimming too . B.t.w. I don't have this issue.

I'm beginning to think I am the only one.
Another symptom which I am thinking is related. Sometimes when I touch my finger to the fingerprint button to wake the phone, it comes on with that dark screen for just a moment. It feels like the phone is busy, overloaded, or just slow. It will then come fully on. Also seems like maybe it is just in deep sleep and slow to wake up. If I turn it off and back on, it is instant.
I check memory and it always has just under 1.5 GB free.
I don't know what to think, but it is very annoying. I thought about chalking Huawei support, but I'm sureo they'd just say to hard reset.
I do have a lot of apps on the phone, but with that much free memory I wouldn't think that should be a problem.
Another interesting thing related to screen dark: I can have the setting for display to not turn off if no actdivity to 10 minutes, and it still goes off after less than a minute. (Going off is different from the topic of this thread where it is near black/dark, but not off).
I discovered this while trying to use Huawei backup. Thinking of doing a Factory Reset. Instructions say to not lock the screen, so I'm trying to keep screen on w/o my having to hold the phone the entire backup.
This overall topic is making me pretty unhappy with the phone, which I had thought was perfection when I started with it.
sigh...
I finally called Huwaei technical support this morning. They apparently know about this problem, and want me to send the phone back for repair. They expect me to be without a phone for two weeks while this is going on.
It speaks to the reason to not buy phones away from carriers, as anytime I had a problem with my Samsung, they would send out a replacement and then I would send back my old one and I would not have to be without a phone.
Pretty poor .
AN update In case anyone is following this for some reason...
Getting ready to send the phone in, I did another factory reset. I had got to wondering if maybe Gravity Box had been part of my problem. May be the case...not sure. But for now i'm not having the problem. I changed some of the settings on it when I reinstalled. I cancelled the return.
I've had the odd time when the screen is on, but not properly backlit. You can just about make out the screen, but then the backlight seems to rectify itself. It isn't just the Mate 9, but the P10 and probably other phones. Doubtful a hardware issue I'd have thought - rather a software glitch.
The P10 just got an update earlier this week (yet still with April security patches) but my Mate 9 hasn't had an update in months.
