Hi,
I have unlocked my T-mobile G2X through a third party unlocker. He said that it is a permanent unlock.
I am waiting to root my G2x. I am concerned if I root it, will I loose the unlock ? Will my phone get locked again ?
TIA
No, you won't lose your unlock. I'm assuming it was done with an unlock code, so you'd be good.

I am not sure how it was done. Because I bought the phone on craiglist. It works with my ATT sim card though.
Anyway to find out if it was done through an unlock code ?
The seller told me it's a permanent unlock. Not sure what he intended.

Hello,
I bought a Captivate in USA, the cell works fine in my country (Chile). I want to install a customrom, but I don't know if it's possible considerating the problem of the Sim.
I appreciated if you help me
Thanks

Hi, i bought a factory unlocked captivate from USA and never had a problem with custom roms. The sim never got relocked and i had flash over 20 roms on my phone. And i live in Argentina, without any access to an AT&T sim.
Though i would suggest, that you try to get your unlock code written down somewhere before you do custom roms, specially if you did not buy it factory unlocked. There is an app that gets the unlock code for you, I can't recall its name. Some of the phones get relocked after going back to stock; though I'm not sure if it is because they where manually unlocked instead of factory unlocked. What I do know is that when i tried to get my unlock code it wasn't anywhere, so I started flashing the phone hoping it didn't get sim locked.
If you don't get the code, flash and get sim locked there are several posts that explain how to unlock your phone. Those and the "universal sim unlock" gave me some peace of mind at the time.
Thanks!

Back up your efs directory. It is possible to relock and be stuck if you don't. There is no factory unlock captivate. All are att and have to be unlocked via code.

I bought a captivate and I want to use at T-mobile. So how do I root and unlock before I put in a sim? It doesn't allow me to use sim and market, so I need to root and unlock before I can use. thanks.

You need a program called Super One Click. This one program will unlock and root your phone.

To go a little farther on ^^^.
SuperOneCick will root the phone( it will aslo have the option to allow third party apps. I would recommend do that).
From there, you need an app called Galaxy S Unlock by Helroz. You can get it from the market. After completing that, your phone will be rooted and unlocked.

I never could get that to work for me. Others may have different experiences.
You can use the phone and market without SIM card just fine.
In my case, Superoneclick will root the phone but I then had a hard time getting the unlock code, might because the phone had stock 2.2 on it. Galaxy S Unlock returned FFFFFFF while hex editing let me pass the pin input screen but the phone was still locked.
Finally bought a code for $0.99 on eBay and got it unlocked. Well worth it, especially after I spent 3 hours and almost screwed up nv_data.bin/IMEI.
hey, I tried to unlock this cell phone (SGH-T679) for few days now
but I failed to unlock it
it's really tough to unlock it i guess
Tried using several unlock Apps from android market but they didnt work ;(
and I even bought a code from a website but it didnt work either lol
nah.. can someone please help me out to unlock this phone?
it is originally from T-mobile but now i'm using Fido (in canada) ... so have to unlock it ASAP
If the phone is from T-Mobile, and you are using it successfully on another carrier, then it is already SIM unlocked.
Hi everyone. I bought a T-Mobile's Z3 used by another guy. He shipped it from the U.S but i'm not there. The thing is: He bought a SIM unlock code but T-Mobile won't let me introduce it because they only let you unlock the phone through their app. The question: If I debrand the phone by flashing the global/international firmware would it let me introduce the code? . I hope you can help me.
I don't think you can just cross flash, at least that is my experience with other devices as well. Also no way to bypass the SIM lock as there is no boot-loader unlock or r oot for the TMO Z3.
As far as I know its an over the air unlock and there is no option to even enter a code... when the app did not work for me I called TMO and they unlocked it within an hour, as I am a current customer.

Root and bootloader unlock have no effect on sim unlock. They are completely different things
It depends by phone/carrier implementation I guess, for my Sprint LG G2 you could bypass the simblock using a method that requires root. In the HTC M8, boot loader unlock with Super CID could achieve SIM unlock as well.
You probably are correct with Z3 though.
Im in the same boat, bought a used z3 and tried to unlock using device unlock app on phone, Failed. I bought an unlock code but there is no menu to input unlock code. If we flash global generic firmware, will unlock code pop up?

Has anyone tried this and been successful? I attempted it this morning but got errors and flash aborted.
Edit
Guys keep trying the unlock app. I almost gave up and tried it one more time after a factory reset. Went through the setup menus. No Sim card, WiFi through my old Xperia z, turned on my location. Opened the unlock app and applied for permanent unlock and BOOM.... Unlocked.
Don't know if any of what I did made a difference but try it if you want.
Best of luck to you all.

Have any of you successfully unlocked your phone using the T-Mobile Device Unlock app and permanently unlocking the phone? I was unsuccessful. I called T-Mobile and their representative put in a request to unlock my phone, but I got a response saying that my phone can only be unlocked using the Device Unlock app which won't unlock my phone. My phone is fully paid so I don't know why it's not letting me. Anyone have any advice?

Hi,
Have you tried a third party unlocking service?

Thank you for replying. No, I haven't. I fully paid for my phone, I expected T-Mobile to just unlock it without any issues.
