GSMArena has the HTC Desire HD as Gorilla Glass, if you had a look around XDA and other forums, you will find that there seem to be a misconception that the HTC Desire HD is actually "not" using Gorilla Glass, but regardless, it still seems to use a certain level of quality surface. To be honest, Gorilla or not, it does also scratches, as seen on my GFs Galaxy S I9000 which definitely uses Gorilla.
Maybe the pre-release/testing ones had Gorilla Glass and then it was changed afterwards as a cost saving exersise?

I also that it had Gorilla Glass

Wow this old question again after all this time, does it matter? The screen on your DHD is made of glass, glass scratches deal with it.
hey guys.........
which do u think is the best super amoled or retina display

Retina display is just a name apple name up to sell iphones
retina are basically IPS display, no?
and i don't really know if the DHD has a gorilla glass display,
but my nephew accidentally dropped a XBOX360 controller right on the screen of my INSPIRE 4G (same device) from about 70cm high and absolutely nothing happened.
well it might not be the actual keys that scratched the display but could be grit or sand in the pocket.. metal generally doesn't scratch glass.. there are tons of youtube videos of people using keys and penknives to try to cut glass but it usually doesn't work.
but if you use sand or a sharp rock.. now that's a different story.

Even though it doesn't have gorilla glass, the screen seems to be scratch resistant. I know because I don't use a screen protector.

Same here, I don't use a screen protector and don't think I need one at this point. I've had my phone for months now, and its been through situations where scratches should be inevitable. The case has a few nicks around the edges, but there is only 1 tiny tiny hairline scratch going across the home button. Not noticeable, I only noticed it when looking at the slight wave of the glass right next to the lamp.

Even though it suppose to be scratch proof, i would still recommend a screen protector.
For who are you saving the screen? To the next owner? Doesn't it look ugly with the screen protector? I have never understand these. I use my phones usually 6-12months. I have got twice a tiny, tiny hair scratch to the screen. One was Gorilla glass (I think it's soooo over hyped), other one just scratch resistant. For my htc hero I never got a scratch in 6 months... I wonder how you treat your phones...
So no I don't use a screen protector, not after Nokia 5800XM which had a plastic screen. And even with that I got bored to the protector and rip it off after few week...

i like to keep it scratch free.cuz im like that.
but even if the next adopt of my phone would have a scratch free nexus s
it still means more money than a scratched one.
though im keeping my android phone's(for development for example)
unless i really need the money
Wonder how these are going to work with the bevelled screen on this one?

Not easily scratched.
The screen protector takes away from the beautiful viewing of the screen and (I don't care what anyone says) lessens the touch screen responsiveness.
I had a screen protector on my HD2 for a while, and have not been happier since removing it. And I've had Invisibleshield, BodyGuardz and BSG. They all lessen the experience. Since removing the screen protector on my HD2, I have not had a single scratch. And that's after 3 months or less with the screen protector on and 9 months or more with it off.
And what the HD2 has is not as good as what the Sensation will have in Gorilla Glass.
Don't use lame screen protectors man...
I used them on my HD2 like Darnell_Chat_TN for like 3months. Now almost 8 months later I still have 0 scratches on my naked HD2. You just need to look out if you put it in your pocket with keys etc.
I've got a Thunderbolt which is said to have gorilla glass, but some users are still reporting the glass to be getting scratched. There are some very clear screen protectors which you wont even notice on. I recommend you place a screen protector on. Realook is what I've got on mine.
Well I never knew it, but the HTC HD2 does have Gorilla Glass. No wonder the screen is so strong.
No screen protector for me and loving it . Now I know I won't use one on the Sensation after seeing the difference with my HD2!
I think the screen protector on my G2x is one reason I didn't see the brilliance of the IPS/LED screen as much as it was hyped. Had one on my Nexus One before I had the screen replaced for the first time (dust, still a problem).
My wife's Nexus One has endured a LOT of purse-abuse and doesn't really show it. It's amazing how people can scratch these modern screens in daily use.
look in this thread at the screen protectors link. i couldnt link directly as i dont have enough posts.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1054925
I am one of the people who likes to be extra careful. Besides, I've seen various types of damage inflicted on the supposedly scratchproof Gorilla Glass, and I just don't buy into the claims made by the company. More durable than conventional glass? Sure it is. Indestructible? Definitely not.
I'll definitely be slapping a screen protector on my Sensation.
+1 for a protector. I am over protective of my devices and it shows. I take the case and screen screen protector off and it's practically brand new.
I take such good care of my stuff that I have a regular clientele of friends and family who buy my old phones off me, because they tell me it's like buying the phone new.
Shouldn't be calling people lame for wanting to protect their stuff. Not everyone on these forums upgrades their phone every 6 months.
Has anyone got a screen protector on their Sensation? I'm just wondering if the bevelled screen effects it.
I use the Boxwave ClearTouch Crystal screen protector on my HD2. I tried about 4 other brands and the Boxwave works best for me. Screen is almost as vibrant with the screen protector as it is without one and the touch sensitivity is fine. It also seemed to be easier to install than the other protectors I tried.

I had my nexus one for a year without a screen protector as well and no scratches what so ever. I used my wifes phone that has a screen protector and I don't like it at all. So no screen protectors for me for this one.
I can't wait for this phone to be released!
Gorilla Glass is not 100% scratchproof ( Proven on my HD2)
well It is really hard to brake.
You can consider buying a nice sleeve for your phone .
It is in my opinion a better solution
What I mean : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ql37A-SgA3A
There is really no need for a screen protector. Care for your phone. It after all a remarkable peace of technology. Not just a toy.
Although I f you want a toy just get a Samsung.
100% Genuine plastic toy feeling.
bought a gel case with screen protector. the screen protector didnt fit. shame as the case is perfect. managed to drop phone on floor by accident outside. not a mark on the screen. will still get screen protector though.

That list says my G2 has Gorilla Glass too. It was a strong screen but it did get a small scratch. So I bought a Realook Premium Screen Protector it is truly crystal clear and responsive.
Same here, screen film also doesn't fit.

I bought the HTC screen film however the sides around the screen as its kinda lipped up would not apply correctly (bubbled up). Remove this after a few days and found a desire protector, applied it successfully, however obviously its a bit short. bought a case from ebay and it came with a protector, which covers the screen but does not go all the way to the edge, stuck on well and no apparent "bubbles". its ok quality. case is ok silicon case
The other thing I like about the screen protector I have on my HD2 (Hence my preference for screen protectors, is that the matte finish cut down the reflections on the reflective screen. That and I'm a klutz!
Screen protector, should I use it or not? will it make 3d effects worse?
Definetly yes,you should use a screen protector,i have always used one on every phone i have had from day one,the o3d is no exception.
It does not effect the 3d quality.
A screen protector is not necessary in my opinion.
Never used one on my milestone (droid) and dont got any scratches - even when i carry keys in the same pocket...
Gorilla Glas ftw!

How do you know it is gorilla glass? I didn't see it listed anywhere...
i was wondering too about gorilla glass, nobody actually can confirm that it's gorilla :/
I tried scratching the glass of the O3D with a bulletin board pin and a needle, it wont scratch.. Metal vs glass and not scratching = gorilla glass in my book.
I had many gorilla glasses and never used i screen protector. BUT i had always scratches on the displays. And they was not only small... So in future and actualy on my P920 i use a protector becaus I think its better
3D works fine - with protector
attached terrapin screen protector, not sure if its better or worse then usual, but will see how will it serve, I dont think actually there is difference between these protectors anyway, it's just 'brand' what is under them.
Agreed,
I use a screen protector for mine as well. I have seen gorilla glass scratch on O2X so I am not willing to risk my O3D. And it is barely recognizable, so why not use one.
yeah, scraching such phone, uhh...
Been rocking my O3D with out screen protector for a week. i have very light skrach about 2mm long screen protector is bk on and will stay on. Protect ur screen guys.
For the minor expense of a screen protector, you can always try one if in doubt.
Personally have had 3 different smartphones and have not used screen protectors as I feel they aren't a requirement so long as you are careful. A decent case should be a priority imo.
Always wear protection!

I also bought silicon case for it, in case if I drop it or something T_T
I'm using the screen protection since the first week that i had the phone and it doesn't affect the 3D effect at all.
Also i have a gel skin case in case i drop the phone...
Got my O3D today and right away i put on a screen protector. It doesnt affect the 3D.

Put screen protector over it. Seriously.
No way to physically get rid of it as it would damage outer layer of the screen.

Ah yes.......pinger frints
I've read online that you can use the 3m 06070 finishing compound with a microfiber cloth to polish out scratches. The screen on my Sensation is scratched from the rivets on my jeans, and I'm thinking of doing the above. It's just that the 3M solution is so expensive and may not work. Maybe do a group buy?
Just put a cheap screen protector on it. It'll mask the scratch when it's applied with the gunk stuff on the back. Cheap as chips off eBay or a local cheap phone accessory place.
Also makes getting "pinger frints" off a lot easier.
It'll help to protect it from your riveted jeans.
I got a ghost armor recently and its seems to hide my scratch pretty well. When the screen is off I cant see the scratch at all. When the screen is on the scratch is much less noticeable. Still don't know how I scratched mine up. I had it for 2 weeks and kept in a dedicated pocket. Gorilla glass is a joke.

I agree. I never protected my HD2 and never scratched it, now both this sensation and my Motorola Defy have scratches, and both have gorilla glass... They are barely noticeable, but my HD2's screen is perfect.

True. Screen in HD2 is way better scratch resistant that famous gorilla glass which I scratched in empty pocket after one weeke of use. What a crap.

Just as a matter of interest, is the Gorilla Glass integral with the screen itself or a separate component?
I know from a thread I read some time back there there are different SLCD manufacturers, so I was just wondering if it's related to a specific manufacturer.
It's not related to display. Glass is a different part. Gorilla glass is just the way glass was treated, basically top layer of glass was made more dense hence increased scratch resistance. Just look up what is gorilla glass on google.

Hi,
I'm searching for a phone which has really good glass protecting screen, just like the HTC HD2 has.
Do you know any available in Europe?
Thanks in advance.
Seriously? No one?
There is no such thing as a 100% scratch resistant phone. All screens are prone to some degree of scratching. That said, look into phones like the Galaxy S3, which comes with Gorilla Glass 2 or any other phones with Gorilla Glass screens like the LG Optimus 2X.
I've had a gnex since november and its kept up great.
Anything with Corning Gorilla Glass.
