[Q] Did I brick my laptop with CWM? - General Questions and Answers

I downloaded manualnooter and CWM to flash my SD card and root my Nook Color. I extracted the .img file and left it in my download directory - laptop battery died so I rebooted with these files still on the hard drive, oops. Now my laptop wont boot. I assume this is related, is this thing trying to boot from these files? I went in with command prompt and deleted all files that I had downloaded including the original img, zip, and rar but this thing still wont boot. Is this common if these file were left on the hard drive? I am running Vista. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks.

Sounds coincidental to me. Have you tried booting into safe mode?

Well, I did the same think the night before. I know, spare me the laughter, I was sleepy the second time. But the night before when I deleted the files via command prompt the thing rebooted. Maybe that was a coincidence also. I don't know. Is there any way these files can mess up a laptop if left on the HD and rebooted?

N00B question.... please answer

Ok. I accidentally deleted a really good picture that I took off of my phone before I dumped my pictures on my hd, but it is still showing as my today screen background image. Where the hell is it on my phone? It's not here: WINDOWS\stBackImage.png, as on older versions.... please help.
http://www.htcwiki.com/thread/2296698/Where+is+the+Today+screen+background+picture+stored??t=anon
doesnt help
ok i have been searching all over for an answer for you and here is what i found at least on my phone. I installed mun background changer today so i dont know if you have that as well but you can try and see if things are the same. Using total commander go to windows directory then HomeBackground.img try that see if you have that file. If you do copy it and save it on your computer than access it because i cant access it from the phone. Here is what i did copied the file from the windows directory into my memory card using the phone then accessed the memory card from my computer renamed the file to .jpg because my computer could not open .img and it worked.
EDIT: yup that is it. I went ahead and installed mun background changer and everything softreseted uploaded a picture as my wall paper so i can recreate the same scenario you have and the file is located:
Windows/HomeBackground.img
ill try this and see if it works... thanks for your help
Tada.... it worked...
The file is right in the Windows directory.
Thanks so much.
You are the man, or woman, whichever.

Access Denied!!

Really hoping this isn't one of those annoying noob questions, just spent an hour searching but can't find the answer.
Earlier today I decided to have my first go at modifying a .dll file (shellres.dll.0409) just a minor change to some of the display text. Managed to extract it (using Windows Explorer) unsign it, make the change, resign it, and overwrite it by copying it to my SD Card and pasting into Windows with RescoExplorer. All good.
Unfortunately, after a soft reset, my phone (HD2 stock 1.66 ROM) got stuck at the windows screen while booting. Tried reset 2 or 3 times but the only thing I could do was a hard reset.
Phone is now back to stock and working fine so I thought I would have another go at changing the .dll file.
I now can't even extract the file.
Dragging it to the desktop (which worked earlier) using Windows explorer gives an "Access Denied" error message. Copying it with RescoExplorer and trying to past it to the SD Card also gives the same "Access Denied" message??
Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong or what has changed?

That's the problem mate, can't get it to my desktop!
This afternoon copied it to desktop using Explorer, unsigned, edited, resigned etc.
Now get "Access Denied" when I try to copy it to desktop or copy>paste in RescoExplorer??
Anyone?

[Q] Sideloading apps - Just a quick question....sort of

Been trying all day to get ADB working with no chance, just my laptop is just too screwed up i guess. Wont go into details too much, but I did everything by the book from three different sources and everytime i tried to check it with cmd under the right tools directory, after hitting adb or adb kill-server or adb devices i always get the error that adb is that excutable in that directory so im at a lost.
But off of that matter, i found a great program called Sideload Wonder Machine, that automatally sideloads app with out the sdk or rooting (which ive already done anyways) and works find.
But my question is, why bother? Becuase i have download apk's to my computer, connect and monuted my g with debbuging on and just transfered the file to download and then opened it with any file opener and it easily installed no problem.
So my question is, does sideloading thru the computer which installs it on the device its self do a little trick or something that makes it better to do it that way, or is just moving the file myself to the download folder on my g tab and installing it through the g tab the same?
Thanks for your time.
P.S. sorry for being a windbag.
o and if your intersted in the sideloading program im talking about heres the link:

sorry about the old school copy n paste method, dont think i can post links yet.
Same idea i usually just use dropbox or bluetooth transfer ive only used adb a handful of times, if you get rootexplorer its even easier, no mounting /system the hard way

Hi. I don't see a download folder on my gtab. Is that a folder you created, or am I just missing something?

If you don't have it yet, the Download folder will create itself when you download something via the web browser.

Zip to android fail Windows 8.1

I have a rooted Xperia U with the TerraRom. I wanted to check out another rom called Infinity Rom v3. I downloaded it from the website, and dragged the file from my downloadfolder too the root of my Xperia U, where theres a hundred folders including my old Rom. I got an errror message up the second I let go of the folder. I have the norwegian language turned on, so I probably won't write the error code just like Windows is supposed too, but it was something like this: "Can't copy the file. The device stopped answering or is disconnected.". First I though that it was something wrong with the connection, but I found that transfering other zip files to the device is not a problem. I also tried to redownload the file, but the error appeared anyway. The file could be opened with WinRar, but not with 7zip. The file contained 2 folder, one called META-INF and one called system. There were also 2 files with the same names.
Winrar gave me an error message too, saying that the zip was/had unintentionally stopped (working) or something.
This is very annoying, and I would love if someone could take the time too tell me the problem, as that would help me a lot. Thanks

I can't find a way to change the usb connection between mtp and ptp in the storage section of the settings application. I tried turning my phone off and on, but no difference.

I have restarted my pc, and my storage still got plenty of space left. It's only this one file that won't transfer. I have tried many other files and they work, but this one doesn't. :/
