I agree with you..theres like 5 different answers for every one question. All people seem to be saying is "search" rather then being helpful anymore. Its a shame you can't get help in the Q&A section..

I tried a few different ways before and after s-off, still not actually going past stock speeds at all. I think its a matter of having a modded kernel.

Thank you to both you, i appreciate what you both said, and it seems that I feel the same way, i imagine that we're not alone (this is how communities start, and of which xda WAS based. now it's full of ppl who would prefer to pass off a sarky comment than give you the answer to what eludes you)
It's a piss take and if the search function worked properly then i would use the ****er,end of, story be told the development thread is a mis interpreted thread of ppl trying to get the same thing but failing and hurting others unnecessarily is what happens a lot of the time, we're here to help each other boys' n girls not hinder, there are people out there who would kill for some of the knowledge that we possess, so without a sarcastic tongue, try to pass it on, and do it with a smile, because if i see another american flag with a prick on the end of it saying something which i would normally slap someone for then i'm going to board a plane and get my friend to find ppl'z addresses lol i'm joking, but seriously, the flames, the ****, the bollocks which comes with some of the answers, i could do without.
Can someone please help? does anyone give a ****? how can we overclock our ****ing phones.
PArdon the french but i'm pissed off at the lack of support around here, and the lack of updating threads when everyone clearly has S - OFF.

U need a kernel that supports overclocking (ex: unity v2).
Sent from my Dell Streak 7
I was having the same issues. Most of the roms are based on a kernel that doesn't o/c past 1.5 and is now controlled by
o/cdaemon. Like yall I like to play with setcpu and run it myself. All roms except for ones using stock kerenel use the new daemon. There are currently 2 roms that use a unity kernel that will oc to 1.8. They also use the daemon.....but if u download setcpu the daemon will turn itself off and let you use setcpu!!!! I flashed a cold different roms and the daemon wasn't working correctly (CPU wouldn't go past 1128). Either way ppl have different opinions about overclocking. Seems most devs now find it unnecessary since we have dual core now and better....everything. but for me....when running navigation, shooting emails every 5 minutes, uploading 100 work related pics, tracking work orders in a ****ty corporate made app, 50+ phone calls, burning up 1gb of data a day just for work, more mms' than a 16 yr. old sends in a year..........and checking the forums every chance in between. Basically I I NEED THIS PHONE TO HAUL ASS FOR 10 HOURS A DAY NON STOP TILL I WALK IN THE DOOR TO MY HOUSE

Many of.the custom ROMs which allow OC use a new method outside of SetCPU. I believe its Daemon. You go into a file and set your clock values similar to how it was done in SetCPU. This is supposed to be much more fluid.
Check the the Virtuous Unity Rom. There is a whole paragraph and link about how to overclocked. Currently custom kernals break the camera flash. Still takes pics, but no flash. Should be addressed in the near future.
Hope that helped. I'm no expert so I recommend reading the linked post in the OC roms.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA App
You either use the oc daemon to overclock or use setcpu. As soon as setcpu is used, the daemon is disabled folks...
<--- using Unity v2 with SetCPU at 1.5Ghz with multiple profiles.
Is oc daemon something that we can use without a custom ROM? I am S-oFF, rooted, running stock rom with ADW EX. I have setCPU working, but only until a reboot of the phone. I dont really want to flash ROMs yet...
Matt
i am also waiting for oc daemon update.zip - would be great if rmk could create a independent update and there was another guy who started writing a gui for the "new" oc daemon.
So the way that I have been able to overclock so far was by using the temp root plus overclock method, even though i just S-Offed and im like you, I still do not want to flash any other roms for a while. What i do is just run the 1.8 ghz overclocked files a few time and then wala it works until i reboot and then i have to do it again. One thing that I have noticed is that when i over clock and run it hard, it burns up and then restarts, so i try not to run too many apps while over clocked at 1.8 hope this helps.

I am the same way. We really need a better way to do this with our stock rom. I wish people weren't pushing the roms as much as they are and did some work for those of us that don't want to flash roms yet.

Most of us are happy with the devs focussing on improving their respective custom roms. If you are that interested in holding onto the stock rom, it sounds like you've got a project to take on.
If you guys don't mind me asking, why are you guys hanging on so dearly to the stock rom?

For me, the reasons are strong.
1-Most the ROMs seem to be very buggy. I am a "noob" and dont feel like spending more time troubleshooting my phone and asking for help than I spend using it. I also have little clue as to why something FC or my phone freezes.
2-I havent seen ANYTHING that a ROM can do better than my "stock" ROM. I say "stock" because I have frozen Sense (much of it) with TB as well as a lot of random bloatware. I have also added ADW EX (paid) and my phone is extremely snappy.
3-The chance of FUBARing my phone is GREAT. I see plenty of experienced people talking of bricked devices and screwed up settings. Seems like a mine field out there! Seems best to leave this to the real Pros, for now, until better methods come up.
Ive yet to see a ROM even touch the we browser. It may be fast at loading, but its stiff as a board. Id be interested in a ROM that was just a thinned out version of the stock ROM (not gutted, like others are, removing everything) that had reliable OC and a much better browser, all with increased battery life. This all assumes the ROM didnt require me to do anything aside from flash it. No troubleshooting, no coming on here BEGGING for my noob question be answered in a dignified manner.
God forbid my SD card or something failed while trying to flash a ROM...
Thats asking for a lot, I know! Thats why I prefer to upgrade my phone in stages. If I add something and I get errors, I know why. I can remove it and then gripe about it from my WORKING phone. ;-)
Whew!

The buggyness that you speak of is largely due to the current state of our third party kernels. You could flash a ROM and flash the stock kernel to avoid many of the issues that you see people having.

How many do you consider "plenty"? I've only seen one report of a true brick and that was because the user was blindly executing commands in fastboot that he didn't know about. He was practically trying to brick his device. There have been a few other reports of hardware failure that probably would have happened even if those users had not flashed ROMs. Really, its almost impossible to truly brick your device. To brick, you would need a bad flash of the bootloader (hboot) or radio. Nobody bundles hboots or radios in their ROMs. The worst that could happen from a bad ROM flash is a soft brick (fixable). I understand wanting to be cautious but I think it is quite an exaggeration to make it sound like flashing a ROM is a risky gamble or that "plenty" of "experienced" people have bricked.

I think you are asking for a lot. You're essentially asking for everything and willing to do nothing, except flash. Not troubleshooting issues or reporting bugs, just flash. I can understand not wanting to spend a lot time fiddling, I really can. But remember, stock ROMs have bugs too. Have fun with your stock ROM and its slow development cycle.

Man one big fight. Anywho get a person who has the o/c daemon to strip it out and put it on a filesharing site. Then download and install it. Have to be rooted. If you prefer setcpu when. You set a frequency tick the set on boot check box. Also would not recommend anything over 1.6 GHz bc you could burn out your proccesor. Hope this helps anyone.

Sorry, wasn't trying to pick a fight. I just thought it odd that someone would take issue with devs focussing on "buggy ROMs" instead polishing the stock one. I thought we root so we don't have focus on stock? Not to mention the fact that the current the crop of ROMs would never get any better if it weren't for the developers efforts on those ROMs. I just find it funny when people say "I wish more time/effort were spend on [insert ROM name here]" If you feel that not enough dev efforts are being devoted to something it might be time to learn to dev and do it yourself. Otherwise, accept the efforts that they have chosen to gift us with.

Forgive me please.. My name is Jeff and I am a newb..
I have had iPhones for 4 years and done my best to jailbreak unlock and liberate as many devices as I could from Steve Jobs grasp.. But alas those days are over.. and I have made the switch to Android.. A little late to the game.. I know..
I have rooted a bunch of nook colors to flash Cyanogen and helped a guy with a G2x again to root and install cyanogen. So I do have a little experience but that is were it stops.
So now that I have made you read that brief introduction here is my amazingly noobish question that the flaming of which will probably bring joy to many people here. So I am willing to take one for the team for your entertainment.
Question 1. Will the noobproof method of s-off, rooting, Installing ClockWork, and gaining SuperCID work on my device and will the 4g radio still function as there is a tower within a good quarterbacks throwing range of my house.
Question 2. I ask because I cannot find a definitive answer. What is the best way to uninstall all the sense crap and the bloatware on this phone.
I would like to add that this is my first android phone and I am loving it. I was a little worried switching from iPhone.. yeah yeah i know.. But now that i have there's no looking back.
If the guides exist to do what i want and I am just blind to not have found them feel free to just post links and not waste your time re posting them.
Thank you again for your time and assistance.. or for the flaming and the countless sleepless hours of trying to sort thru the forums to find the already answered threads that may come.
ps Ordered my anker 1900mah battery should be here tuesday.. wait.. wrong thread.
Feel free to reply to me on google+ Just Look for Jeff DeVeau
Hey, I'm coming from the iWorld as well. I've only had my Sensation 4G for a week but I've been flashing ROM's the whole time lol. So, to Q1- Yes, 4G works great after rooting and or using a custom ROM. Q2- The cleanest way IMO to do this is just install a custom ROM that has all the bloatware your looking for removed already. You can delete it yourself, or freeze the apps too, but there are more benefits to custom ROM's besides that. EVERYTHING can be optimized by the ROM chef ;-) There are more than 25 ROMS available so far... Pick your poison There are also different radio ROM's that users have said can increase 4G speeds in conjunction with certain system ROM's... Have fun!
I just got mine 2 days ago.. I cant help but to want to tinker with this thing.
Any experiences you have had with specific Rom / Radio combinations I would love to hear.. Im pulling about 6-8mbps down pretty consistently but of course... the faster the better right?
Can't wait for Cyanogen for the Sensation.. I love it on my nook
Another Question (or two)... If I plan on trying different Roms I just S-off, install Clockwork and Root right?
Do I need SuperCID? I just leave s-off right?
Just wanted to say.. S-Off'd and installed HD Revolution and no sense on my two htc sensations.. Both are running great with adw launcher.
Question..
the issues I have are that the live wallpaper keeps going back to the default, sometimes when I install a app it doesn't show up in the app drawer till iI reboot, and the 4g logo is showing up as H.
Any solutions for these issues?

Hi welcome to XDA-Developers, your guides and resources to phone related and much more.. enjoy..ooh the search button can help alot *tip*
I just rooted my phone 2 days ago for the first time from stock gingerbread to cm7.
The ingredients for a successful root/flash:
-Read Read Read. Read the materials associated with your tools, your handset, and the commands needed to make this a successful mod. Read through the tutorials available, go through the different methods and then judge which is right for you, taking into account prep, tools, and your available knowledge. Some are easy, others will usually have a disclaimer regarding difficulty. Don't be discouraged, there's a ton of stuff to get associated with. I jumped balls first and went straight for downgrade, s-off and engineering bootloader (this bootloader may save you later, I suggest you really look into it).
-Understand how to use your tools for the job. You'll see adb, android sdk, fre3vo, gfree and a few other tools of the trade to the task you wish to accomplish. Learn them, learn the commands and the syntax. Inputting commands through the command prompt can seem a little scary considering the potential for disaster but time, patience and perserverance. When in doubt....READ MORE.
-No shortcuts! Learn everything to start, taking the easy way is fast and well....easy. But you won't get the exposure to the tools, commands, or environment you'll be working in. I went through the whole long process of setting up the android sdk just to know what I was getting into. You'll be happy when you hit a problem like getting kicked out of adb shell and knowing what command to enter to jump right back in...
-Follow the directions to a tee. No deviation, improvisation, or imagination. It's the difference between a good mod and an expensive paperweight. When in doubt, search the forums for your answer (and google), if you can't find something specific to your question then ask away.
Good luck and enjoy, you can't imagine how many goodies are waiting for you on this side of the fence.
welcome to the Glacier forums!
after succeeding root access and s-off, there MANY different roms out there. my person favorites would be Sense based roms, more specifically Sense 3.5, and even more specific, RCMix3D by capy. that ROM makes the MT4G BEAST!!

Hey welcome! One bit of advise I can offer is that when you are done fideling with sense...you should really check out the AOSP based Roms. Personally I really dig Faux123's gingerbread nexus rom. Great battery life and performance its cyanogen based so you get all.the tweaks but I find Faux's is.less glitchy. Message me if.you want and ill explain why sense looks nice but runs awful ha

ICS in mytouch 4g

Hey guys,
I frequent the EVO forums since my current phone is the EVO 3D. My best friend has a Blaze 4G, which I rooted for him about a month ago. I know nothing of current Samsung ROMs and while I could search and read every thread in the Blaze section, I was hoping you guys could save me some time.
General requirements for any ROM to be considered:
1) Must have working camera/camcorder (He has a 7 year old daughter he just got custody of and Dads gonna want to take pictures.)
2) Must be "Stable". My friend is a great guy but not a computer/phone savvy as I am...I don't want his phone to **** the bed while I'm at work, I'd feel like an uber douche.
Please in your responses include any pro's/ con's and why YOU like it...Thanks a ton

I understand completely what you are saying about a rom for your friends Blaze. I would recommend Dark KNight Build 8 and Tweaked ROM. Both are stable and run well. I have been using Dark Knight since the day it hit. No force closes, no random reboots, everything is working fine. Tweaked is also very stable and everything works. Also I would recommend flashing the scorched kernel as well.
Hope this helps
I agree, tweaked and dknight are probably your best options, although I think there is JMT, but I have never tried that.
Let me ask you though. Is there a reason your friend does not want the stock rom? If he's not to tech savvy as you say, if it were my friend I would let him stick with stock, all the roms have there small issues. And although some may not bother me, it may be something your friend would rather not deal with. Having said that, after setting up dknight with the torched kernel and running for quite some time now, I have not had any problems.

He wants something different. From what I've read about the Blaze 4G and its users y'all have the same issue EVO 3D users had with regards to ICS update (We were told Q1 2012...didn't get an official OTA until 7/31). We will hang out, drink some cold beers and he will play with my phone and say "Damn, Chris...I wish my phone would do that" or "Hey Chris...you think you can make my phone do *insert cm9/10 feature here*" So a few weeks ago I went ahead and rooted his phone, he loves that HE is in control of his device...even if he has no idea what it can do. I set up Titanium for him and did a NANDROID backup so that if something went wrong he has a known good flash point. He knows that when in doubt, don't mess with it or call me and we will go through it together. So in fairness to him, he is savvy enough to know not to really mess with it until he more knowledgeable...
Besides all that the man couldn't type until I got him addicted to a MySpace app, I am hoping that once he sees what his device can do with some mods he will take interest the same way and learns to do this for himself...just gotta get him that first hit ya know
Hey guys, apologies if I'm not posting in the best possible section for this, but I've been wondering for a while.
I've been getting sick of TouchWiz. Not just the launcher (I got Nova the moment I could, and am still using it) but the customizations of the phone itself and the small annoyances that Verizon baked in, such as the always-on WiFi indicator. I've been debating going to a stock ROM for a long while, and I've made my decision to break free of the ridiculousness that is Verizon and Samsung's customizations, as they've made the phone slow, and I know it can run much better than it is right now. So here's my question:
What's the best stock Android ROM currently? I'd preferably want one that is
Being currently developed. I don't want a ROM with a lazy developer. (If ROMs are a few weeks late, I won't mind, but I don't want to be waiting forever to get the next .1 added to my version number.
Quick and minimal. Literally as close to stock Android as it can be. If there are things that need to be kept, such as the camera app, that's fine, but I'd like to rid myself of as much TouchWiz as I can.
Free of bugs. I know most ROMs aren't perfect. I'm fine with that. I need something to work as a stable daily driver, and I don't much care to hop on the next nightly I can find.
On the latest version of Android without bugs.
I have experience with rooting and flashing with Odin, but I haven't done it in a while, so if the method to root+flash is more than a one click or a couple of console commands, I'd like to be guided if possible. I have no want to brick my phone, as you can well imagine.
Also, if there's a list of stock ROMs for the Verizon GS3, I'd like to be pointed in that direction, if possible.
Thanks! I hope to hear from someone soon!
Not being rude but, if you were to take the amount of time you put into making this thread and actually looked throughout the forums you'd find a thread already on this or get this, you could go to the development threads and read the ops. Mind blowing right?

Yeah, I know that. I could surf through bunches of ROMs, but I posted here as a question for community feedback on a bunch of them, that might help me make a decision.
Is asking for opinions and information less efficient than going through a list that's new territory for me?
I'm not stupid. I want advice and info from experienced users. Is that so hard to ask for?
Great thread idea. Surprised no one else has done this.

You described most of the roms that this phone has. Most give you an option to keep phone stock, Based on each thread, they're all amazing to use daily. As far as being on the latest version you simply have to look at the thread title.
You'll definitely need to go through several threads and try them out to see what suits your needs best. It's not an easy task when there are several awesome developers on your phone!

Thanks! Didn't know I was delving into such a huge bunch of ROMs. Back in the X and Droid 2 days, I had to surf through a bunch of different ROMs that really weren't reliable. I know things have changed, but this seems pretty extreme.
If you know of any, which ones have you heard are the, well, "god-tier" ROMs? Any developers who are notable that I should check first?
Thanks again!
I wouldn't judge god tier roms, I'm happy to say that all of these roms on this device forum are just as reliable, it's only a matter of how your phone plays with the rom you end up choosing, since all devices play differently. Even if these threads are meant to be locked since they bring nothing but just opinions.

I will say that there isn't a rom that is the best. It is all about your preference. I have had bad experiences with Synergy,Axis and CleanRom doesn't mean that these are sh***y roms.

Well, I was just looking for information on the best Roms for the GS3, but since all of the Roms are apparently great, could you list a couple? Even if they aren't "god-tier", are there at least some that fit the qualifications and are well known? I know there's not going to be a "These are the best ROMs ever" list, but are there a few that are highly maintained, or some developers that are well known besides CyanogenMod?
Sorry if I seem new to this whole thing.
Barebones stock is pretty much all I've been for almost a month, and at this point I'm not ashamed to admit I'm a flashaholic, but i only flash his updates (andybones) and the great news is that he keeps the rom consistent in updates and solid Smoot performance.
Also hypredrive just got updated to rls 15 and that's another amazing rom that gets a monthly update and its worth the wait and a very determined developer.

You should give every rom a go, but you can start testing with Synergy. Try it for a week, and then test another rom
Sorry, "Best" is a term that is subjective and can only be defined by the individual, the post above/before me is a good idea.
XDA is not a support site, users are expected to use and test on their own.
