[Q] Playing ALAC via HTC Sense stock musicplayer??? - HTC Desire S

Hi Guys.
I recently bought a HTC Desire S, and is pretty thrilled about it, meaning both the android OS, and the HTC Sense UI.
But - HTC Sense doesn't support ALAC (Apple Lossless Audio Codec), which sucks for me bigtime, as I think the Sense-music player is as good as it gets, pretty much. And, since much of my music is in that format.
I also use HTC Sync to put music on my device, which is pretty smooth because of the iTunes-playlist support.
I know there is a bunch of other players on the market (currently using poweramp), that could solve my problem, but I would prefer using the Sense-musicplayer, because of it's simplicity and smooth UI.
In other words, please don't just advise me to use another app, since I'm already aware they're available
My question is then;
Is there a way to get HTC Sense to support ALAC-playback??

Touch HD or Omnia2

Hay guys,
I am getting a new PDA, I have tytn now and it has served me good.
Could you give me your look on this two models, I am thinking about Samsung, since it has much better specs and display, but I got used to touchflo 3D interface a lot...
Is it possible to put it on Omnia?
Your answer will be appreciated and will help me decide what to buy.
Thanks!
There is one added value for choosing HD
The sup`port of this fantastic site!!
Just because of that I´ll choose HD even if omnia has better specs...
Yes, that is bothering me too...
Well if you're not gonna flash your device or use Touch Flo 3D or any other ported software, than get Omnia 2.
You will still be able to get support in this forum. Most of the issues of non-HTC devices can be supported/solved without the need to correspond to an HTC device.
You could use TouchFlo 3D on your Omnia 2 if its WVGA. However as mentioned above the support provided by this site significantly exceeds that of any site that supports the Omnia. To be completely honest, if you havent bought your device yet you should consider the Touch Diamond II. The reasoning behind this is i read an article somewhere mentioning that devices without a windows button will not get an official WM6.5 ROM or something stupid like that (Correct me if im wrong).
Ill be upgrading from my Tytn to an Omnia2
I agree that HTC gets great support here but Hardware and capability wise there is nothing to compare with the omnia2 on the horizon.
AMOLED screen, headphone jack,tv-out,5mpx cam with dual flash....what more could anyone possibly want?

A forum specialized like this for that device!!!
Hmm, the Touch HD vs Omnia II i8000.
Well, lets face it, this is a question of 'XDA support' or 'No XDA support'. Specs-wise, the i8000 has the Touch HD crushed completely (as have been the case with all new Samsung models; HTC hasn't updated their specs in forever).
Personally, if you ask me for a choice between those two models, I would go with the i8000. The main reason I love XDA support is that it makes the interface looks better and it makes the software faster, but from what I see, the i8000 is already plenty fast and it looks very, very good. Furthermore, the i8000 has support forums too (though not on the level of XDA), so any deficiency may be corrected by its own forums anyway.
The idea of choosing a WM device based on software seems very silly to me. One can find a CAB for just about any Windows Mobile software (including, yes, TouchFlo 3D), so transition between WM devices based on software is very simple. If anything, the i8000 should be more appealing software-wise as Samsung put a lot of amazing software on it that has not been ported to other devices yet.
Always buy for the better specs and design. Never buy for the software support. Buy for the software that is already provided.
Any extras can be found on other fan sites and other non-htc developers. Therefore the Omnia 2 is a much better choice.
Besides there are plenty of software that are created that supports non-htc devices, and there are also software that are created specifically for non-htc devices.
Furthermore alot of the technical problems are Windows Mobile based and not always HTC based.
The only 2 reasons to get HTC devices is 1) if you prefer the design and the specs of HTC and 2) if you want to flash your ROM.
HTC devices are easily flashed to a different ROM, but hey man not everyone uses ROMs... I don't ever use ROM's...
Therefore Omnia 2 is a perfect choice if you don't flash your ROM...and point number 1 shows that HTC Touch HD is outdated....so therefore get Omnia 2 if you don't flash your ROM....
Think about it mate.

a zooming ability on the video camera (while filming)
also, can it play divx/xvid movies like the HD can with coreplayer?
i download movies and dont have to re-encode them, just drag, drop, play. (...generally, unless there was some esoteric encoding used)
mark
I have the same dilemma. I am about to replace my Sony Ericsson W960i with a proper PDA and I am taking into account both, Touch HD and Omnia II.
Similarly I would like to have a Touch Flo 3d interface on my device and therefore I was keener on HTC Touch HD at first. However since it is possible to get a Touch Flo 3d onto all WinMo devices (as I deduced from 8525Smart's post)

I rather buy Omnia.
And here it comes to questions:
1. Are my assumptions concerning getting Touch Flo 3d onto Omnia correct?
2. Could anyone explain to me this ->

What does it mean to"flash your ROM" and how is it useful? Isn't it simply upgrading/updating the ROM?
I'd be grateful if you could help
well livegod guess what ! omnia2 has zooming while taking videos with its awesom camera
and the touch player can support almost 99% of all my downloaded and converted movies
as for the TF3D .. i love the new one and i cant seem to find it anywhere to be installed on my omnia2
i hate the widgets... makes the phone looks like a toy so i am using spbmobile shell + pointui
i'am from germany and I have the same problem.....
But here I can buy the Omnia in a few month....:-(
But what is whith the HTC LEO????????
Touchwiz 2.0 quite simply covers up WM 6.1 SO thoroughly on the Omnia II, it's almost like you're not using a Windows phone. The Omnia II is definitely the better pick unless you REALLY want ROMs to flash. Then wait for the Whitestone or Firestone or whatever HTC have next.
omnia camera is far better than the HD2
especially the video recording
the HD2 dont have a chance
but i dont care about the video recording so i will get the HD2
HD2, wins every time. You can flash what ever you want (when hspl comes out!), why would you ever want an omnia?
Hands down the HD2 (Leo). PPC of the year so far!
Samsung Omnia 2 place...
I'm a Forum XDA user for a long time.
It helped me a lot with my old HTC Wizard.
I was quite worried about buying an Omnia2 and losing the Forum support. But HTC HD cannot win O2 in SPECS.
About support... boys I have to admit.
For Omnia2 (that is not a HTC device) the best software and tweaks and amazing ROMs can be found on MODACO (sorry boys, but I have to say).
If you own an HTC device don't even consider getting there. The best place is here!!!
Concerning the TouchFlo3D, there are many versions available on MODACO. There's even a HTC HD2 like ROM with Sense 2.5
Thanks!

divx/avi support in Sprint Hero?

I got my wife a Samsung Moment and although I like the virtual keyboard on the Hero much better than the physical keyboard on the Moment, the Moment has one key feature that the Hero lacks.
Is it possible to migrate the DivX/AVI support of the Samsung Moment into the HTC Hero?
I asked the developer of Meridian why the Moment can playback my DivX movies flawlessly but the Hero can't. He states the Moment has the support built into the ROM.
I tried yxflash on the Hero but support is buggy at best.
Anyone know if the above is possible?
Until then...

We would need a Moment to look at the rom... Okay... Bad pun. But seriously, we would need a dump of the rom to be able to do anything with it. If anyone knows about one let me know.

htc HD2 or xperia x10 - moving from HD1

Hi everyone, i would like some advice.
I am coming from a vast amount of HTC phones (i love HTC, great phones), latest one was touch HD but i broke it (up until then, its my longest serving phone without me getting rid of it).
I am looking at alternatives, and thinking andriod (wouldnt do iphone, tho the apps would be great!)
Anyway, i use my phone mainly for emails, web browsing and playing content over my network through UPNP and windows shares.
How would i cope with Andriod in this situation, do apps exist for these?
In your opinion, which phone do you think is best and if you were me, which would you go for?
I am favouring HD2, simply as i know windows, run custom firmware on it and love the hd! Andriod is an unknown for me, can i install custom firmwares on that?
Maybe andriod onto the HD2?!?!?!
Thanks for any help.
Stuart
funny... i'm opposite of you.
I've been a Sony Ericsson fan for several years now. I currently have the Xperia X1 and introduced to the world of Windows Mobile.
I'm trying to decide also between the HD2 and the X10.
HD2 runs winmo and the X10 runs android.
Switching to the HD2 would break me from being a SE fan and going with X10 would break me from winmo... haha. Still not sure which to choose from.

HD2 or X10?

Hi guys,
What do you think the best option for me is for upgrading my phone? I currently have a Samsung Wave and the most important things for me are multimedia, the quality of audio playback and video playback (ideally without conversion but not a necessity).
Also, I do like a tinker! Would the HD2 be a good option due to it running WM, and Android ports, and potentially Windows Phone 7 eventually?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Throwing the Galaxy S into the mix. Anyone?
with galaxy S in the mix, it wins , but between x10 and HD2, the HD2 wins for Modability.
Any opinions on multimedia and audio quality?
I assume the HD2 comes last here, with the Galaxy S and X10 doing best?
Anyone have any opinions on the HD2 Android ports and how quick and stable they now are?

HTC ROM with AVRCP 1.3

Can anyone recommend a ROM with AVRCP 1.3 or greater for the HTC Inspire? I would prefer an HTC Sense ROM, but I'm willing to consider just a plain ROM.
What is AVRCP?
Sent from my Inspired DesireHD
:AVRCP is the standard that describes the information sent by the phone while playing music and connected to a Bluetooth device. It also describes how the Bluetooth device can control the music player.
Technically AVRCP 1.3 doesn't even exist in the AOSP master branch yet. There are more than a few people complaining about it. A few weeks ago I was looking for a similar sense rom with 1.3 and the results were less than satisfactory. Though anything based on CM should have support for it.
