So I found a link for the Gingerbread download when I searched "droid x gingerbread download" on google.
It had the 4.5.588 System Version.
I successfully downloaded the software on my sdcard but unfortunately I forgot to unroot my phone with z4root before installing the software.
Now I don't know what to do since the superuser remains as well as z4root but no rooted softwares work.
Please don't let me brick this!
How do I unroot this phone or fix it? Any help is appreciated.
Sounds like you just lost root when you updated. If you haven't tried this already, run Z4Root to re-root it again and it should be fine.
I tried to unroot and reroot using z4root several times it doesn't seem to work. I know this because the wifi tether is not working and says "Are you sure you are rooted?"
I mentioned that I installed gingerbread on the phone without unrooting the old software...
Gingerbread
my understanding is there is no app to root the gingerbread release. Please correct me if I am wrong, and advise if there is a way to root my droidx after I updated it to the latest Verizon release.
I'm with meeraj023 on this one. I have unrolled the phone, also using Z4 and still cannot update.
Tried while it has been rooted and while not rooted without he same results.
I have also read that you can't root the new GB. The only fix I have heard of is to SBF back to something rootable, but I could be wrong.

Hmmm, this is a longshot, but have you tried the Droid X subforum here?
Unroot Droidx?
First thing if you answer Thank You. How to unroot droidx? I am trying to get the new update so I can reroot the phone. Please help. Tried updating to lose root to reroot. Does not work says update unsuccessful.
I had the same problem with my DX. I was unable to update the phone to the new firmware. z4root will unroot your phone. I then found that it's because I had deleted some of the (bloatware) system apps required to update. (Blockbuster, amazon mp3, etc). I found a site that has all the removed apps in a zip. That didn't work for me b/c I found a NEW problem. Ultimately, I reflashed the .sbf, starting over from scratch.

Hope this helps!

the steps in the link above did not work.... any one have any other suggestions?
Yo I got root access on my vortex with 2.2.1 used superoneclick with rageagainstthecage exploit. Clicked shell root first, then clicked root. Worked for me good luck!
That worked for my wife's but then I got one and it isn't working that way at all. Tried to downgrade, and i get a version error.
I actually put together a downgrading tutorial to fix some of the technicalities not mentioned in some of the other ones. Let me know if that helps anyone out.

(I can't post links yet, but I feel like this may help you guys)
I was able to get root on my wife's Vortex, which has the 2.2.1 OTA, by manually pushing psneuter to /data/local/tmp then pushing su,busybox,Superuser.apk to /system.
It's a manual method but works very well.
NO MORE CITY ID
ROOT 2.2.2
Gingerbreak roots the Vortex 2.2.1 and 2.2.2 painlessly no downgrade necessary.
i'm not sure if this has been answered yet, so sorry if it has. anyway, i have a perm rooted/S-OFF G2 with stock 2.2 rom and was wondering if and when the update for gingerbread is released, would i be able to update without any problems or damage to the phone? or should i have to unroot first?
sorry, i dont know.
To my understanding s off is just an unlocked bootloader so bassicly if you update your phone it'll still break the root and no more super user however u will still be able to go back to an older ruu that has root though hboot please if someone knows different correct me because I just got s off earlier today

Update from Kies to 2.2.1 will not allow Z4 root to work. I've tried to root via Superone click and Z4 root and neither seem to work. Anyone else run into this issue or find a way to root the phone? I had the phone rooted and unrooted before the update via US Cellular's website.
Same problem here as well!

Same thing here. I have tried rooting my phone after the kies froyo update using all the methods you described that worked flawlessly on eclair 2.1 and now they don't work! I can't even get voodoo lagfix to load with 3-button combo like I had done so many times before. Could Samsung have loaded on a boot locker now like motorola phones??

I used "super one click" and it rooted fine (rageagainstthecage mode). Might want to try that out. This was on the official 2.2 release. You will have to reboot the phone after the program does its thing.

This is what worked for me. z4root doesn't work on rooting EC10.
Download the Samsung USB drivers here if you haven't already.
http://org.downloadcenter.samsung.c..._USB_Driver_V1.3.550.0_SCH-i500_Fascinate.msi
Connect your phone to your computer, let it do it's thing. If it asks about the drivers not being verified just click "Continue anyway."
Then grab SuperOneClick from here, unzip it, open SuperOneClick and click Root. Let it do it's thing for a bit, say yes when it asks to test Su then reboot your phone and you're good to go.

One of the things that I found that helped was changing the USB properties on the Mez. I set it to Ask, tried connecting to One-Click, disconnected, then changes the setting to Samsung Keis and reconnected. After that, it was able to root.
Mine rooted with no errors after USCC upgrades on wiped phone. I installed from /download directory on SD.
i was able to root my freshly installed official 2.2 from USCC website by using superoneclick, i used the psneuter root, changed usb settings to ask upon connection, hooked up my phone, clicked root on superoneclick and it rooted with no problem.
I've spent some time on the forum trying to find an answer, but obviously that didnt happen.
I have my GS4G and want to just ROOT it without installing any rom to replace the firmware.
1. If i root my phone, can i do JUST that? or are there other steps after simply rooting that are considered important for the stability of my phone?
2. After i root my phone, will i still be able to do the kiesmini/OTA gingerbread *official* (not leaked) update?
My main reason for wanting to do this is for the bloatware and increasing performance, and to just have overall more 'control' (similar to the feeling of wiping a new computer from the manufacture's preloaded poop).
I have superoneclick v1.9.5. I used it as a test on my old MT3G, and installed the GingerYoshi rom, and all worked very well. I just dont want to brick my GS4G, as i paid full price D:.
sorry if this has been asked/answered, i try to play by the rules, but just didnt find my answer.
thanks,
Greg
Super one click root 1.7 was what I used. It just roots the phone, as any other rooting method should. You can get ota fine...I always did. Never had a problem.

Just so you know there's no one-click root method for Gingerbread for the SGS4G yet. Maybe around the time the official ROM comes out there will be.
what does:
"error:more than one device"
mean?? That pops up when i hit root. I only have one phone connected to my PC.
I'm assuming its multiple instances of ADB running? Im not sure..
*EDIT* My mistake lol. still had my MT3G plugged in, my bad!
successfully rooted. Thanks
