Okay-this is a slightly noob issue, i'm sure, but I don't mind the ridicule if this gets solved. I've rooted my phone using the wiki guide, and I'm thankful for that, up to now. However, when I try and install the cyanogen rom, and I've downloaded it many different times, and put it on the root, there still seems to be that one file that's missing---the .zip file. It won't find anything on recovery mode with clockworkmod, or rom manager. This is also the case with other roms i've tried installing (ginger, deodex). According to root check, I'm rooted. Busybox said I wasn't, and when I allowed permission through superuser, it said I was. It looked painless from the guide, and I thought it would be less frustrating. I've done a lot of reading, and when I factory reset, I also wipe the cache. Where am I going about this wrong? Thanks in advance!

First off, I'm really thankful for xda developers and everyone in it who make this site extremely helpful.
I've been running Cog2.2.9b1.3 simply because it was simple to flash with Odin.
(thank you DG)
Now, I want to try other roms that require Clockwork and rom manager. I understand all the steps to do those things, but one problem. I know it's necessary to flash to stock before getting a different rom, so i flash to stock via Odin one click no prob. Then I have to root it, which doesn't work at all.
I downloaded OCLF and opened it, but there is no option to root my phone. The only option is to check phone space. I tried doing it the old fashioned way through installing it through the PC then going into recovery mode and reinstall packages but it says update.zip/BAD.
I master cleared it, hard reset it, everything. No luck. So, I'm thinking it's the Odin one click that's not allowing me to root somehow, but I'm not sure.
If I can't root it in stock will it be okay to install another rom when I have Cognition 2.2b9 on it?
I downloaded and installed the Incredible S Beta rom that is listed somewhere on this site for the Incredible. My issue is I want to revert to another ROM, HOWEVER, now my Superuser keeps force closing and will not allow ROM Manger to flash. I try to reboot in HBoot and ONLY get the start-up screen when doing Vol- and Power. Any suggestions on how to get into Hboot or another way to flash a different ROM when SuperUser will NOT allow permissions or Rom Manger wont reboot into Recovery (because superuser forecloses and wont let me flash Rom Manager
BTW-The Incredible S Rom works great...just NO pic/video (As it states in the description.)
Editing to take away some of the clutter (my clutter)
I am not sure what happened. As stated above once the ROM (which is great!) was installed, Rom Manager was no longer granted superuser access (was trying to reboot into recovery via Rom Manager). It wiped the Recovery Version from the phone and would not let me flash a new recovery. Everything else seemed to work fine (superuser permissions, ie. SetPC, etc.)
I tried plugging the phone in and reflashing Unrevoked directly to the phone. Unrevoked stated the root access was denied and asked if I had a "newer firmware".
I also tried uninstalling superuser (to only reinstall and see if it fixed the issue), however, Superuser was included in the ROM and would not let me uninstall.
The only way I was able to get back into Recovery was to re-run Unrevoked Flash and UNPLUG the phone when Unrevoked managed (somehow) to get the phone into bootloader. From there Clockwork ran fine.
Installed a different ROM and all is good.
The only thing I can think of is: In some post regarding the Incredible S being not branded to a certain carrier. When the ROM was installed, it showed "EVDO" in the notification bar (which leads me to believe it is for Sprint), I am not sure how THAT would affect anything being on a Verizon phone...again..only thing I can think of.
Just reboot the phone directly into recovery.

It wont let me. I dont think...I tried the Vol-+power...nothing..just reboots. Tried booting into recovery via Rom Manager, but since superuser no longer is granting persmission it wont even do that...is there another way to flash a different ROM?
I just tried reflashing Unrevoked directly to it...it failed to access boot, something about the firmware being too new...???
I dont know anything about your device but maybe your root is broken? Re root and re install superuser goodluck.

Oh, HTC Incredible.
I went into Rom Manager (and against ALL I have read) am trying to instal and reboot using Rom Manager...instead of going into recovery mode...phone is just sitting here "thinking" right now...nothing YET about being denied root access...fingers crossed...
OK, not sure this was SMART...Hooked phone back up to PC, ran Unrevoked flash kit again...unplugged phone once it came up in recovery...have access NOW to CLockwork...wiped data..installing different ROM as I type...hopefully this will work..
YAY...close call...sorry to waste everyones time..lol. So..If your installing the INcredible S Rom onto your incrediable..I have learned two things...1.) Unrevoked failed to push recovery due to the firmware...2.) you may lose superuser ability....
You would get more help if your thread title would actually be helpful.
Include your phone model, the rom you tried, and what happened (SuperUses FCs[forcecloses]).
Caps, lots of exclamation marks and a title like ZOMFG I NEED HELP, usually deters skilled people from threads like this.

Good point...just paniked. Someone can close this or change title.
You can do it yourself through the edit button. Make it accurate so people who have the same problem and search for it will find your thread and your solution.
I'm sure this has been asked a million times already and yes, I have searched the forums and only came up with one but I can't flash any of the rom's I have tried. I have tried everything. Unless there is an idiots walk through I can follow, it's not gonna happen. I would really like to find the stock Rom for this phone. If anyone has it, could you please share. Mine is gone! All I have is a backup in clockwork that I can revert back to but it's not working right.
Just to give a heads up. I have the latest version of clockwork and super user. It is s-off and I follow all the directions but no good. I wonder if I unziped the downloaded rom I have and put it in clockwork backups? Maybe it would work then, of course after I wipe, format, etc,etc first.
So ive been giving myself a crash course in rooting and recovery. Its been pretty nerve racking. But i managed to root my lg g2 d80120e, without bricking it. I installed autorec to get twrp and created a back-up. It took me 2 days to find all the information and working links for the downloads. Most of the links are bad, outdated, or dont have the files that they say they have. I ended up figuring out how to recover my phone back to stock condition. I am extremely lucky that i havent bricked my phone through all the risks ive taken. I want to know precisely what i need to do to test out some roms on my phone. I rooted with towelroot and im not sure if this affects how i should install my roms. I am a noob. Could someone put a step guide together for me, on how to install roms on my g2 without destroying myself? And maybe a few suggestions on some good roms to try? Something customizable, light weight, and stable.
Thanks in advance.

If your rooted, have a custom recovery and a backup: just put the Rom on your storage, boot into recovery, wipe cache, dalvik cache, and system manually. Back out tot the home screen and install, your Rom.

Guys, my son messed up and followed instructions off the Max "HighOnAndroid" at www.galaxynote5root.com
He flashed twrp 3.0.2-1
He followed step by step. After flashing twrp, he booted back into recovery and flashed
No-verify-opt-encrypt
And
Update-SuperSU-v2.46
When he booted it back up, its stuck on the sprint splash screen. It is specifically in the screen that says LTE Plus More spectrum better network.
After I got off from work, I came home to him crying.
Ok, I have started to download the factory ROM from Sammobile but I am wondering if maybe there isnt an easier fix. I am not to familiar with changing kernels. Ive never needed to worry about them. Could I maybe just need to flash a new kernel?
From looking on here, really all he needed to do was flash twrp then SuperSU... Does anyone know a way to fix this faster than waiting 6 hours for the Sammobile stock rom?
Please help
Edit....
Ok guys...
I got the file downloaded from sammobile. I installed it and got it installed and working. Then I tried to do the root myself. I followed the guide on this site. However I still couldn't get it working. It was still bootlooping. But not the same bootloop. This time around, it didn't get past the very 1st screen. I again flashed back the stock ROM and again everything works fine.
The files I tried to install are:
Twrp-3.0.2-1nobleltespr.tar.md5
Then I did the twrp install boot deal, booted into twrp and installed:
BeastMode-Stock-N920P-1.3-O16.tar.md5
BETA-Flashable_SuperSU-2.52
I now take it that the issue is my twrp says noble while I read not to use the noble kernel to use BeastMode. But I could be way off...
Man alive, I didn't know just how much I appreciated CF Auto Root until just now...
You probably already figured this out by now but follow the instructions and links in my thread. You should only reboot directly to twrp from download mode after flashing twrp btw in case you haven't figured it out by now.
The method you are using is from a very old thread. Follow the instructions in the thread below.

Thank you for responding. I was able to get the factory ROM installed and working fine.
I have downloaded the MOAR for the device and plan on giving it a go.
I still haven't been able to root the phone. EVERYTHING I tried resulted in bootloop. So I just decided to stick to stock on his phone until I can actually get it figured out...
As far as the SuperSu being old, I got it directly from the website of the maker. https://download.chainfire.eu/696/supersu/
I REALLY want to get this phone rooted for him, as I am certain he is going to keep trying following random YouTube videos regardless of my instruction.
Like I said in my last post, I have never missed cf auto root so badly...

Root on stock is relatively simple.
TWRP + SuperSU only.
But as you saw, it's still easy to get it wrong.

Ok, so since I have flashed TWRP and SuperSU, and all it ever does it bootloop, would I be able to install TWRP, then flash MOAR on top of it? Then I would have a rooted MOAR if I understand correctly. My issue is that ive always had root accomplished before installing a custom ROM.
If all I have to do is flash twrp then SuperSU, I dont understand what I could be doing wrong.
But I'm going to take a look at your link you provided and see if I can't get root 1st.

Old habits are hard to break. A properly deodexed rom that is pre-rooted only requires twrp and a proper wipe before installing.
For rooting stock, it really is fairly simple. The instructions I provided are probably a little overly detailed but I had to cover as much as possible for those that have never done it before so it 'looks' complex but once you've done it a few times you will see that its really not that hard to do.

Thank you for pointing me to your thread. I was able to get root on my sons phone. Hard to believe the SuperSU was the problem... But it was... I was using the one from chainfires site, but yours worked when his created bootloops.
Thanks again!
Is there a root method for pk1
