[Q] Does i9000 support qick charge - battery charging spec 1.1 ? - Galaxy S I9000 Accessories

HI,
does the i9000 Galaxy S support the quick/fast charge from battery charging spec. 1.1?
My new pc mainboard does support this via software/driver. And allows to load with up to 1,5A
I couldn't find information on that.

The i9000 is USB 2.0 not USB 3.0, so the answer is no.

as it does charge faster with a higher AMP output charger.
i use a 2 Ah or 2000 mAh charger in my car and the phone does accept the faster / quick charge
so if your PC has the option to do the higher 1.5 Ah output, it will take it just fine
just like if you have a 1200 mAh wall charger as some people here uses.

I installed the asus driver which installs a service and the aicharger.sys
I restarted.
They tray shows an icon with a plug, but it is crossed. Like disconnected.
I pluged in the i9000 via the usb2.0 port an no changes.
I then pluged the phone in to a usb3.0 port but the icon still shows disconnected (or ai-charging off)
Any ideas?

This is the bit that is not exactly correct. Regardless of how the hardware is set up it's up to the phone driver to request a powersupply from the computer. As it is the Galaxy only requests only 2 unit loads (200mA) from the computer, no where near the 500mA max of the USB2.0
So no simply plugging in a more capable computer won't change a thing.

Interesting. So does the SGS actually use all of the 700mA out of the stock factory charger? If I use my 2.1 A charger could I overheat the battery?

Ok I've had it with the speculation. I've got a USB micro socket and plug on order and I'm going to make a pass through cable and measure the 4 different chargers I have here at the moment this weekend so we can put this one to rest

Ok did a test. No the SGS does not use all 700mA. It uses 470mA. Charging is faster from the dedicated charger than the computer. I verified that the phone only draws less than 100mA from the computer socket.

I installed the driver but the icon in the tray doesn't recognize my Samsung.
That is because it doesn't have something an Apple Product has.
Apple products get more current with that driver/software thing. But the i9000 doesn't work with it.

in the past i checked if it is possible to charge the battery faster, and not Necessarily through the phone.
i asked a guy who works with electronics and he simply explained that everything is possible, even charging the battery to full in a few minutes, but it WILL kill the battery very fast...

yeah i installed to anticipate a quick charge...but all i get is icon with a big cross...
deleting it now......its useless to me...

Everything is possible when you charge the battery itself directly, but not when you charge through the phone. The phone is the charger. The computer and the wall plug only provide power to the phone. Unless you go in with a soldering iron there's nothing you can do to speed up the charge beyond what the Samsung wall adapter gives you.

Charging very slow using USB on a PC

Anyone else having this issue? Went from completely dead 0% to now 17% in 2 hours! Maybe it's a bad battery? Used to charge from 0% to full battery in about an hour or less

Yeah I have noticed that, it's iffy sometimes it charges normally on my pc then there times when it just crawls like today it was at 57 % for like 1 hour I rebooted it thinking something was wrong.
My phone was very hot tho maybe that had somthing to do with it idk

never use your micro usb cable connected to your computer to charge your phone. If your phone is ON and playing music or something else, that will still run down the battery even though it is connected to the computer. Your LG G2x charger that came with your phone is rated at 1 amp. The computer usb port is giving out a fraction of that. Even cheap chargers from China that are 350mA - 500mA will take forever to charge your phone. I use spare Blackberry chargers that are less than $5 and offer 700mA. They are great and cheap.

It's very similar to the TF101; it seems most Tegra devices use a charging cable more like USB 3.0 than 2.0, which pushes a lot more power and charges the device quickly but when plugged into a 2.0 port the charge slows to a crawl. USB 2.0 simply isn't designed to push the amount of power these newer devices require.
When I try this it will not charge my phone. I tried on several computers at home and work Pc's. It actually drains it.
I wonder why that happens???
Not a big deal.
No problem, I always have to take my charger everywhere I Goto be safe.
All computers using USB 2.0 or USB 2.0 add-on cards.

Yes, a fraction of 0.5. USB ports can provide up to 500mA.
I just charged mine at work using a USB cable plugged into my monitor. I noticed that trying to charge it off my laptop doesn't seem to get me anywhere. It might require using a powered hub or something similar to get enough juice.
I usually slowly lose charge when plugged into the usb at work. Granted the screen is almost always on and the phone being used.
I've noticed the charge rate for differs depending on the usb charger rating.
For example, on my laptop usb, it charges very very slowly. but when plugged into my desktop, it charges just very slowly. So they must have different current ratings.
When using my eee transformer usb plug ([email protected]), it charges the phone very fast, like under 2hrs. When using a usb charger meant for a blueant headset ([email protected]), it takes like 4hrs to charge. Think the stock charger is at [email protected]
I use Battery monitor app to monitor my batt usage/drain. Haven't really paid attention to the battery gain, but from looking at past history graph, think when plugged into the laptop, it supplied like 5-15ma of juice. When plugged into destop it looks like at 55-400ma. The transformer usb provides up to 1200ish ma, and the stock gives 800ish ma.
Now does using different rating chargers affect the battery discharge rate and health of the battery?
Just because a USB port on a PC says it'll output 500ma doesn't mean it will, it's all up to the software. If your PC or phone is cranky and doesn't communicate properly, your computer's USB port will default to 100ma, and you can't charge off that
Mine charges fine on USB unless I'm trying to use it, then it is pretty much break even.

Anyone wanting to know how to fast charge using the usb port on your pc/laptop?
This usually takes ages compared to charging via mains lead, the hack itself is quite simple and involves modifying the usb cable
my results are as follows (these can vary depending on what you are using your phone for, what background apps running, etc.
charging with mains lead :
4.2v
998mah
mains ac
charging with STANDARD usb lead:
422mah
3.999v
standard usb
and finally the MODIFIED usb lead hack:
4.161v
782mah
usb hack
as you can see it is a 53% increase in charging compared to standard usb charging mah, and slightly under mains ac charging mah,
as my phone is always plugged in at my work pc or home pc or laptop or whatever this works out good
TUT:
use at your own risk this is for information purposes only and I hold no responsibility to any damage that may arise
using a micro usb cable (charging cable for htc phones)
cut it using a pliers half way through the cable
using pliers again cut away the thick black wiring, the red and black small wiring, and white and green wiring
from the usb port end to the microusb connect the black and red cables together so they join
from the microusb end short out the white and green cables together
from the usb port end leave the white and green cables, do not touch these
use insulation tape/solder to clean it up and then your cable is ready
I will make a mod for car chargers also soon

this mod will trick your pc/laptop/htc into thinking that it is not a pc usb cable and will allow higher currents and voltage to your phone
you can check this with current widget from market place
once this mod is done, you cannot use the same cable again for pc/usb tethering or usb disk drive, only cable can be used for charging

First of all im not against this mod. Just want to share my experience just this morning.
I charge my phone via the stock usb cable to my pc and leave until morning approx 7hrs. What happen now my phone Menu button become unresponsive tried different method, shake google for answer , but nothing work. Worst come to worse i may return the phone to HTC for repair. So for anyone want to try this be careful, this could be a problem with HTC as it could result more problem.

I always thought the different voltages came from the charging adaptor..
The phone adaptors have normal charging voltages so thats why charge normal speed... however PCs have lesser voltage due to USB ports. I think the PC voltage varies on the device that's plugged in.
Thus, we can use the same cable for charging with an adaptor and also for data transfer and the phone knows what its plugged into.
Pardon me if i'm wrong... could be a misconception i had

It's got nothing to do with the voltages, they are the same. The phone senses that the data wires are not connected together (open) and presumes that it is plugged into a pc / laptop usb port. Because of this the phone then restricts the current it draws from it's source so that it doesn't cause damage to the pc / laptop usb power supply.
Inside the phone charger the data connections will be shorted out so the phone knows it's the charger and can draw full current.
There is a chance that it could damage the pc / laptop if the usb port supply is not rated high enough
Just to update the thread, I've been using this for the last year and a half on all the HTC's I own and no issue at all,
I can connect my phone to my laptop if i dont have access to mains
I can use the cable in the car to a usb charger (which charge slow for some reason)
there are many reasons i.e. in work where I can only use a usb port and no extra plugs for a/c, it means I don't have to carry a plug around with me just a usb cable,
A good post, the issues around drawing to much power could effect older laptops
If I understand correctlly USB3 has the ability to supply more power than USB 2

you should place a 220 Ohm resistor between the data lines (green and white) if you do that, you will be able to use the where it was intended for, data
with the 200~220 Ohm resistor the phone recognizes the connection as AC-charger. i dit this with a DealExtreme carcharger

If you can get to the ID-pin of the USB-connector (pin4) and connect the following resistors to GND, you get interesting USB modes
Dock-mode = 44-49 kOhms
Car-dock = 5-16 kOhms

I've done this, and soldered all the cables in the right positions, now I'm testing the charge times between this and a normal usb cable on my HTC G1.
First thing I noticed was that my phone says charging via AC, instead of usb.
Will edit this with the results.
Edit : Been a while, forgot about this, so I forget the exact numbers, but my phone charged around 1 and half hours faster with this mod, and yes, it was on USB 3.0 so its quite good.
Worthless to try if you don't have USB 3.0.

usb3 provides up to 900ma
so usb3 should work without any problems

I have an Notebook with USB3.0 and also Power-USB. (Power usb only works with a dockingstation).
The charging is also bad. Takes about ~4 hours from 2% - 100%.
I thought about power reducement by phone, when dataconnection is available. Now I know it for sure :-/

[Q] OTG and Charging

I recently got a Nexus 5 to replace my old Nexus S and really like it. I am having one challenge that I was hoping for help on:
I have got OTG working with stickmount fine, but I am trying to use this Y-cable to charge while using it and I can't get the phone to charge from the cable at all (with or without a USB drive connected). I have been able to get other, non-Nexus's to charge from the cable so it isn't the cable that is the problem.
I am rooted but running a stock kernel and rom - any ideas why it might not be working or if there is a custom kernel that has enabled the capability otherwise disabled in the phone?
Probably you need a modified Kernel like Nexus 7

You need a modified Kernel something like the following Kernel. But at the moment it is only available for Nexus 7.

I had OTG charging on my Galaxy Nexus as well as the N7. I just tried it too on my N5 with Elemental X kernel, no go. That's odd no one has come out with this feature yet if that's the case as I'm sure it's very sought after especially with people who have the 16gb model like myself that hook up to external hard drives to save space on the phone but they need external power.
Otg + Charging is also very useful when you are playing games using GamePad

If you are using a USB Connection Game Pad via OTG, graphics heavy games use too much battery and usually you can not play for long. This also increases the importance of such kernel for Nexus 5 as well. Nexus 5 have smaller battery but it can play decent Graphics.
I do not like Game Pads with Bluetooth connectivity as they have control latency or lag and your moves are not as quick as even the touch screen, where as you use Game Pads to improve your control moves and probably make them better than touch screen.

The PS sixaxis controller worked great on my N7 for a while, no lag in gameplay. Until Asus had to fix it then I could never get it to work properly again.

I think that Nexus 5 USB Port is 5 Pin and not 11 pin like Galaxy S4 or Galaxy S3. Can someone please confirm this?

I am not sure but can we use QI Wireless charging along OTG. I have read somewhere that it charges but there is a bug in Kernel due to which it does not know that battery is being charged there is no animation or text to show that battery is being charged. Another concern is that if OS does not know about charging and battery is being charged is it not dangerous can it not overcharge and below the battery etc.?

I use exactly the same Y-cable from amazon as avalpert. I connect my USB 2.5" harddisk first at the Nexus charger and let it spin up. Then i connect the OTG cable to my Nexus 5 (rooted stock ROM & stock kernel). The battery icon in the status bar has no charging animation but in settings it says its charging. Around 1% in 5-10min. Even if the screen is on.
@ avalpert: U could check the current of your usb drive in the manufacturer's datasheet and subtract this from the current, your charger is able to provide. My Nexus 5 charger can output max. 1.2A at 5V. Maybe you're using another model and there is just little current left to charge as Alex remarked.
But the difference is I was only powering a flash drive which uses next to no power. And still only 1% every 10-15 minutes.
My best guess is that because otg is enabled. The kernel is not able to tell what type of charging type (ac or USB) is connected so it just enables trickle charge as not to cause any problems

I can confirm this, I use a powered 7 port USB 2.0 hub, and with the original PS: no charging.
Now I took another PS that puts out 2.14-1.7A @ 6-7.5 VDC, and hey presto, charging the phone!
No indicator in the status bar (top screen), but when checking the battery status it clearly states "CHARGING" (see picture OPLADEN 95%)!!
And it charges pretty fast too.....
The mouse is working, as wel as the USB stick is recognized and working!!
The ONLY worry is about the charge....... is 6-7.5 V a battery killer? :fingers-crossed:

Can you please show the power supply that you are using in the picture? What is the exact voltage you are using 6V or 75.V? And exact current 21.4A or 1.7A?

I found the rating strange myself as wel, but it is exactly as I mentioned, but since I didn't trust it up ahead, I just went to my basement to see if I had something better, and I found a 5V 2A.
That should be OK, right?
Can you tell the result of using 5V 2A Power Supply.

Alright, from 84% tot 97% in 90 minutes.....
That is connected with micro usb otg cable to powered (5vdc 2a) USB hub and with the screen on.

May be we can use fixed output voltage and amp adapter just like the following

If this is the case then Nexus 5 will force only 500mA or so from the charger that it is not compatible with. If we use some adapter that generates constant 5V 2000mA irrelevant of communication on data pins like the ones with 3.5mm pin which does not have any data pins, at least we are guaranteed that, at least full power is coming out of the adapter at all times.

I am given to understand that it has nothing to do with the "intelligence" of the charger, but with basic electrical principles.
That would imlpicate that if a device requires 500 mA, the charger will supply 500 mA, if the device would require 3000mA, then it would supply 2000 mA, being it's maximum current (flow).
As far as I know, a powersource ONLY generates a flow (Amps) up to it's maximum limit, if it is connected to a consumer (device). No connected device / consumer leaves no flow to be generated.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Added to my little test earlier today: The phone didn't get hot, at most it would be slightly less cool..... for the PS the same.

Wanted your thoughts and opinions on charging speeds. I've never actually timed how long it takes to charge. i leave it overnight and it's ready when i wake up.
When i plug the phone into the charger, it flashes up slow charging for 2 seconds then disappears. which got me wondering how much it's actually using.
i used to use Current Widget app on my Samsung S3 which told me exactly how much current the phone was taking from the charger. typically it was 1A via AC/mains and 499mA from a PC. Plugged in to AC, I could play a power hungry game and it would still charge the phone at a good rate.
The LG kernel doesn't like these apps - the mA value is all over the place but it's typically <500mA displayed.
I could buy a USB ammeter to work out how much the USB charger is supplying but do you have any other methods of finding out? Do you know what your phone uses?
at home, i use a Xtrememac dual USB charger, 2x 2.1A output with a shielded 3M USB cable. for those wondering, it's the same regardless what cable i use. Have also tried with generic usb chargers, iPad chargers and official and OEM cables from LG and various other manufacturers. Have also used a data-shorted USB cable from PC which is the same result.
I haven't tried the LG charger yet (mainly as it's a 2 flat-pin plug and i don't know where i put the box) but i think i recall it being a 1.8A charger.
I use an application called "charger report" which can display current consumption and Xtar "USB detector" device. They both show the same numbers. But Xtar USB detector can detect voltage of a charger. The charging current of LG g pro 2 is 1.4-1.5A when the smartphone is not used and higher when I use it. Using USB detector I found out that this smartphone can charge with maximum current a charger can give only if the charger's voltage is 5.3v. So it chargers at full speed with original charger and two other chargers I have: a charger from my Lenovo s6000 (2A 5.4V) and from my Asus t100 (2A 5.3V).
i tried that app too and got the same results as with Current Widget.

I forgot to mention that it take approximately two hours for charging indicator to reach 100% when the smartphone reports that it fully charged. And it's necessary to left it connected to a charger for ten to twenty minutes to be really fully charged. Otherwise charging indicator will soon drop to 90%. One can tell if a smartphone is still charging by touching a charger or by looking at current consumption: a charger would be warm and current would be higher than 200mA.
Is the GP2 Quick Charge (1 or 2) enabled? I can't read anything about it other than it's in Snapdragon chipsets. Not sure if it can be disabled or not.

The Snapdragon 800,801 and 805 is for Quick Charge 2.0
The Snapdragon 600 for 1.0
ok, does anyone use a Quick Charger with their GP2? is it noticeably faster?

I just bought this phone and as it seems it could get someday similar problems as my former phone the Galaxy Note 2.
That phone has had problems with charger and cable also. I had to buy another set of charger and cable since the original ones gave up a few months after i purchased the phone (it was used). The cable managed only 500mA wich is very slow for a battery that strong. One night was once not enough to charge my phone from 30% to 100%. As it seems it is problematic to manufacture cables, that can hold up and continually grant the 1,8 A that would charge our device in just 2 hours. I read somewhere that the G Pro 2 is one of 5 devices that has blazing fast speeds on charging the battery. If you handle the cables with caution hopefully you will not encounter problems. If so my guess is, that you will have a hard time in finding a cable that can hold up. Sadly the stock cables are always more expensive. I do not get it, why companies dont build travel adapters that only charge ur phones built solid with sturdy cables to ensure the transmission of high currents. That way with charger + usb cable is just stupid, even when tis is an all in one solution.
I like this phone very much and i hope, that the cables will not be that sloppy as the cables that Samsung had/ still has. With Current Widget i get readings around 1500 mA (1,5 A) when connected to the stock charger. And yes the LG Charger is an 1,8 A one. I have also flat pins, but received an adapter to be able to connect it in Hugary.
Just sharing thoughts here, that will maybe helpful to someone...

2amp charger, charges my Pro 2 in apprx 1 hour while my old LG 1amp charger fills it in 1.40 hours apprx

i "think" as long as device has snapdragon it is Quick Charge enabled
I use the "Charging Report" app on my phone, and it reports proper values.
(Around 1500mAh with the LG charger, and around 1600mAh with the 2.0A Samsung charger.)
If your phone is charging slowly, check the CABLE. Cable can broke too.
(Many people complain about their Samsung charging cables, because they just stop delivering power after a while and just charge the device slowly.)

How long does it charge from 0-50 from50-100 from 0-100?
There aren't many chargers out there. and the ones that are, are usually US 2 pin. I need a UK 3 pin or travel charger (changeable pins) really.

[Q] Anyone know of an app or method to trigger Fast Charging?

I know Adaptive Fast Charging doesn't kick in unless the battery is very low - less than 20%, I believe. And, yes, I have the 15 watt charger(s) that supports AFC/QC2.0
Does anyone know of a way, or if it's even possible, to trigger the phone to kick in fast charging at low, but not painfully low, rates?

My S6 always charges at the quickest speed possible because when I connect my Samsung Charger the phone tells me I have connected the fast charger and I know it is charging quickly because if I use another charger the time for a full charge will increase significantly. Are you using the official fast charger?
Yes, I've always experimented with the high-power charger that came with the phone.
Fast charging will speed up or slow down automatically based on how charged the battery is. The emptier the battery, the faster it will charge. This charge will slow down gradually as the battery fills up. I don't think there's a way to facilitate this, and even if there was, it probably would not be recommended to do as it might damage the battery.
Fast Charging is a concept, that comes into play when you are connected to the USB port of your PC. Typically when connected in MTP mode (or PTP FWIW), Phone charges slowly in order to prevent damage to the usb port. Certain kernels can permit fast charge provided your laptop has fastcharge usb.
For Wall charging, Rapidcharge technology does exist but requires original samsung charger. With any other OEM charger, it'd be a matter of luck since it'd need to have that 11th pin on the microusb.

I'm almost too embarrassed to admit this, but it was the micro USB cord that wasn't letting my phone avail itself of the high-power adapters. I came across a thicker USB cable and, thinking/hoping that thicker cable also translated to higher gauge conducts, decided to try it out with my phone that was at 65%. Yup. The phone now indicated "fast charging".
