I searched high and low for a solution to my problem but have yet to find one
I'm very new to "modding" and successfully ( or so I thought) installed CyanogenMod 7 on my Desire...everything works except for the fact that i'm unable to download larger apps such as Google Maps and Angry Birds...can anyone help me figure out why this is happening?
What phone do you have? Do you have a data plan? If so...is it unlimited?
Please supply with as much info as possible

i can download apps from the market, I just cant download larger ones...the dwnld icon appears on the screen then just disappears
Ok...let's try something first:
Just read the usual legal mambo jumbo...I'm not responsible for you converting your phone into a very expensive paper weight, clear?
Do a data wipe...do you know how to do that?
Do you have CWR installed? If you installed CM7 you must have it.
Power phone off...turn back on holding the power button and go to "data/user wipe" or something like that.

Don't need to be logged in on google talk......Just need to have your google.mail attached to the market on your device (Which you do when you activate the market for the first time)!
Works awesome, I have been playing with it for about an hour now.

The point of it is to install apps from your computer. Going to the site on your phone kind of defeats the purpose of it, especially when you already have a thing call the Market app on the phone.

Its not designed for mobile browsers..........
the market is supposed to be used on your mobile.
The purpose of the web based site is so you can install apps without even touching your phone, from your PC.
sweet
now this could be nice

But you have to have your phone to run the app....doesn't that mean you have to touch it? And so, why not download from the Market app?
Kinda dumb useless if you ask me.

You don't have to have your phone. The website pushes the app to your phone and your phone installs it automatically for you, there is no manual install on the phone to be done. You don't have to touch the phone at all. it just has to be on!
Try it.

It makes searching for apps easier
It also makes reinstalling all those apps easier after you get your replacement phone from the random shutdown issue or after updating to a custom 2.2 rom.
MUCH easier.
Ok so like i bought this back in feburary, and i love this phone, i love pure android to the fullest and have gotten 7 of my friends to jump to android, But anyway i recently came into a problem, after trying to upload a album to my PS3(Playstation3) i noticed that i encounter a usb problem, which by recovery i fixed, but now theres some sort of problem with downloading apps, when i download it says theres a "Download" error and the app wasnt downloaded, i cant even update apps, I have already been everywhere to search for this problem on the internet so im signed in on gtalk, gmail and every other google app i just have no other apps, besides the angry birds games.....im thinking somethings wrong with the path the apps go to or something...any ideas would be helpful!

Have you rooted your phone? I can assume that's the case.
But if you have:
Backup all the apps you want with titanium backup (Just for ease)
Go into recovery and wipe all data and cahce.
Either keep the rom you have now or flash a new one.
Check to see if it's fixed.
Restore all of the apps you want to with Titanium backup.
Thank me if it works, or curse my name if it doesn't.
No this Nexus s hasnt been rooted thats why its such a problem!!!

Hi guys
I downloaded and installed the 8.67MB file from the Android Market on my XOOM but when I open the app it says "You have to download additional files to play" this is 442MB and the app closes when it reaches 1% or 2. You guys have any idea why this happens and any solution?
It might be because of their servers. You do have enough space, right?
Also, shouldn't this be available for Galaxy S2 as well? I can't find it in the Android Market.

Then the servers are really a little bit to busy.
Just try it in some hours again.
That's not a logical reason, is it? cause it tells me i don't have an active connection.

So I just tried it again after some hours and it worked.

I had Skype on my phone but it stopped working after it updated. I could recieve calls no problem and had video/voice chat. But everytime I tried to send a call it would fail after 3 rings.
So I decided I would uninstall and reinstall. Unfortunatley I am getting this error - "Insufficient Storage Available" when I try to install the app.
My internal SD card has 4.21GB of available space. My internal phone sotrage memory has 792MB free.
Why am I getting this error?
Where can one get that magic all knowing crystal orb that everyone seems to expect?
What device?
What rom?
Rooted or not?
Any mods we should know about?

Read up on what rooting is here.
Okay, now back to topic.
There are more partitions(areas) on your phone than what you can see with normal apps or in the settings.
It is possible that one of these is full and causing that message.
I'm not too familiar with your device but "/cache" could be on an extra partition and be full with half done market downloads.
But that would probably stop skype from downloading , not from installing.
Your internal storage which is "/data" might have space left, but it is possible that "/data/data" is on an extra partition that is full, and "/data/data" is where applications are usually stored.
You could go to Settings->Manage->Applications and tap on some apps and select "Clean Cache" (the internet browser is a good place to start).
I cleared browser cache, market cache, and market data but that did nothing.
anymore suggestions?
well I read around on google and apparently this a very common problem.
the only method I have read though to fix it is rooting. I don't know anything about rooting as I stated in my OP. I know that rooting voids my warranty with rogers though and I don't want to screw anything up. I cannot afford another phone.
if anyone has another idea how to fix this problem that would be great.
does this look like a legit answer?

ill check back tomorrow
Still looking for help
not sure if it's safe to try this method above could use some help
still need help ive cleared all cache for every program.
really don't want to try this root since I have no idea what I am doing.
Please keep the discussion public.
no one else has responded to my topic so I am guessing no one else knows.

I did not respond anymore, because i don't know any solution that does not involve a rooted device, if what i suggested did not help.
Factory reset your device and try again, but thats a ****ty solution...

Does factory reset wipe the apps that came with my phone?
tons of apps came with my phone like facebook, twitter, rogers navigation, google navigation, angry birds, voice search, etc.
No factory reset will wipe everything you installed and changed.
To get rid of preinstalled apps, you will have to root -
This is going to sound ridiculous but I had the same problem installing several apps the last time I put on a new rom. It was resolved by rebooting the phone.
Should have been step 1 but it was not listed.
if you mean turn off/on I tried that.
has anyone tried this temporary root thing I posted above. does it look legit?
I also had this problem with my old "desire". resolved with the installation of a2sd +.
Which needs root....
So you either have to get comfortable with rooting your device or nag the manufactor / provider about it .

the guide says it's a temporary root though? is it legit or no?
also what's a2sd?
I guess from years of rooting and changing roms and such the Google Play website shows hundreds of apps installed on my device that of course aren't.
By using Google Play on my phone and going to ALL I was able to painfully manually delete many of them but after a certain point it stops loading very old apps and no longer gives me an option to remove them from the list resulting in the website showing wrong results.
I Googled a solution but found nothing anyone here have any ideas?

To which Play Store webpage are you referring, "My Orders"? What exactly would you like to do?

My apps is what the OP is referring to. The only way to delete them that I have found is one by one. One of the true PIA's of the Play Store.

I've often wondered this as well. It'd be nice if the store would only display 90 days of download recency. It'd be even better if you could sub-cat the downloads by device (if you've had multiple).

Or something as simple as an option in settings to remove apps that are unistalled from the My Apps list.

I agree.
There should be an option within the Store to sync the device you're on @ that time and show what's been installed/uninstalled from Play Store for that specific device.
Play website leaves a lot to be desired. Lets not make light of OCD. People who genuinely suffer from it have a really bad time

I don't know who that's directed to but I have ocd and don't see anyone making light of it.
Anyway I don't even mind removing apps one by one but it seems after you go back several years time (on your phone mind you under ALL) it stops loading very old apps and there is just no way to remove them at that point.

OK I apologise then. I thought YOU were making light of OCD. You know, the whole "If I don't do xxx then I will die" kind of OCD (of which I am sure you know, there is no other). I'm sorry to hear you have that. My suggestion would be not to visit the play website. It's definitely preferable to feeling you will die because it is untidy.
Although the way you phrased this thread, it reads more like "I like things tidy" than actually having OCD, so again I apologise
No problem. It's not like this is keeping me up at night but it is something that has been on my min d to fix for sometime.
