Does someone know if it possible to host a device like an android phone rooted over wifi, on the motorola Xoom? It could be nice to use a terminal emulator on the Xoom for send command to the phone...
I know you can do VNC.
Maybe i should start to learn how to use VNC...

Hi everyone, I'm pretty new to android, and I have no idea how to root a phone. I am what they call a noob. Thing is, I have a Mac and only a Mac, and none of the instructions out right now focus on Mac. Can anyone help me out? Please and thank you

Should be the exact same instructions. Just ad a "./" in front of whatever adb commands you have to run. I just exchanged my Aria and wont be able to get home to my mac for awhile to root it. But if its any different I'll let you know.

Follow those directions and you will be okay! That's how I did it (i did not use adb, i just held the volume keys and started the phone) I have a mac.
Though you do have to make sure that the Mac can see your phone. You will need to enable USB debugging and choose Mass Storage for it. That MP Application is just crap on OS X and I have set my phone to always behave as Mass Storage.
Is it possible?
It doesn't work by default when connected to an android device with USB tethering enabled.
My guess is that there needs to be software in place to bring up the USB network?
Oops. Mod please move to general.
I'm pretty sure the latest tiamat kernel supports this

I have been trying to set up/enable USB tethering from my rooted Droid Incredible (running CM7) to my rooted Xoom (HC 3.1, kernel 1.4.2, wireless only).
When I type : "Cd /dev/block" then "ls" on my Xoom terminal I can see "sda" for phone and "sda1" for my USB flash drive. And my phone recognizes the USB connection to my Xoom.
But when I type "busybox mount /dev/block/sda1/mnt/usbotg" on Xoom, the response is > "mount: can't read '/etc/fstab' : No such file or directory"
And while I can enable USB tethering on my phone, my Xoom doesn't recognize it (of course). My phone is also charging from the Xoom.

Same problem. Using the tiamat kernel, have USB tether enabled on the phone, but the xoom doesn't recognize it. Is there something I need to do in user space to enable the tether on the xoom?

Hi,
I have a Yarvik Tab250 and I want to modify the build.prop so i can install any app I'd like to. I've found the info i need to do here:
w w w.hembrow.eu/personal/yarviktab250.html
But I can't get ADB to list my device, my device is on, and debugging is turned on, and it can't list it under "adb devices". I know on linux you have to make a specific folder or something like that, do you have to do anything special in Windows? I only really have access to Windows, and limited linux knowledge.
As mentioned above, Also, if anyone can help with flashing a working play market on my tablet, i'd very much appreciate it!
Thanks!
You need to have the android SDK installed properly on Windows. The path stamemt must be correct for ADB to function properly.

Do you have the proper drivers for it installed

adb is an application that is part of android SDk and can be run from the command prompt in Windows. There is a windows application Android Commander that uses a gui to issue adb commands, it is very powerful program and I recomend it. you will be able to use it to pull the build.prop file edit it with a text.editor and push it back to the Phone. It can connect to the phone by wifi or with the usb cable. Of course android bebugging must be enabled on the phone. you can find it here. http://androidcommander.com/
I hope this helps.
ADB for dummies

I'm old to Linux, but new to Android. Can someone tell me please:
Question #1: Is it possible to get a shell into my phone somehow? Meaning, Can I connect, telnet, SSH, or any other method to get a terminal? Do I have to use that adb?
Question #2: Is the act of "freezing" an app simply a rename of the file or does it really do something different?
Thanks.
If you look for Android Terminal Emulator on Google Play and install it you will be able to use a terminal. As far as your second question is concerned, I believe it is the same.

So, i was fooling around my tablet, then i thought : why not run a cmd on this thing and try to root..
Well, that sounds kinda stupid but i was wondering if it is possible to do that without a computer connection...
If there is some way to that or if it is impossible pase let me know.... :good:
Progress?
So, here i was playing with the terminal emulator then i tried to rub wireless adb from my rooted phone using ROM Toolbox here are my acomplishments..
So please some one help me and tel me something. –. –
All this was done from my non-rooted tablet.
most of the exploits (psneuter and zergrush) all involve jacking around with adbd and an on device terminal emulator wouldnt help cuz it doesnt utilize adbd.
Now what you can do is give off wireless adb (if supported on a stock rom which i doubt it) and use this client https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jaja.remoteadb
to connect to your device with another device then shoot over psneuter and give it a whirl but like i said , wireless adb being supported by the rom is so unlikely and even if it was supported on stock it would at least be on jelly bean which i dont think is vulnerable to either exploit.
Have fun though
