[Q] Bricked Thunderbolt - Thunderbolt General

My phone wont respond at all. It's currently off and for sure wont turn on. I took the battery out and put it back in and tried it again and the power still didn't work.
I had flashed back to das BAMF remix 1.6.3 via ROM Manager and was restoring missing apps and system data with Titanium. I had let the phone do it's thing and attended to other matters, when I came back the phone was unresponsive.
Any help would be much appreciated....sorry if there's not enough info here. Let me know what you need and I'll provide it.

How much battery was left when u were flashing? Might try tossin it on the charger for 45 mins then try to power it up.
Sent from my Ultimate 2.3.4 Incredible

I had just got done charging it. I think it had been off the charger for maybe 10/15 min. I'll still do this, though and let you know.

did you try booting into bootloader (hold volume down and press power, hold both buttons until HTC splash screen comes on) takes a few seconds so must be patient

dead battery, & thats it...

im running a miui build from abt 2 weeks ago, idk how relevant that is... BUT i let my phone discharge completely til it died. now when its on the charger, it boots to the miui screen, sometimes even the lockscreen, then craps out. i get that the battery is too low to hold a charge, but wat can i do? i tried charging in download mode, but it eventually reboots. custom roms wont allow us to charge the phone while off, so anyone have any suggestions, as i am in this constant bootloop????????
Sounds like you need a new battery, the phone is supposed to shutdown long before there is damage to the battery but a completely discharged lithium battery may never take a charge again, but if you can't charge with the phone off then you may have other issues.
Id hop on Ebay and find a replacement battery. Them work from there

This is my experience i am on miui also and the other day I had the same thing happen and I just did the three button trick to boot into recovery and left it in recovery for about 15-20 mins then reboot and it started to charge. Hope this helps.
Yikes, I guess ill have to remind myself to never let my battery deplete. Although I thought it was recommended to let battery cash in at least once per month.

Pull and replace the battery and Hold both volume buttons and the power button at same time.... Phone will reboot, once you see samsung splash screen let go of power button while still holding both volume buttons and cwm should come up.
I Should have said while being plugged in. Mine was via usb

i never got to the samsung screen, but your first suggestion worked. when it booted to the lockscreen, i quickly unlocked, turned off wifi, gps, and adjusted screen brightness, then i wa able to boot into recovery and let it charge a minute... thanks for ur help & to the other the guy that tried
I've had this happen also with a totally discharged battery and CM7. Booted to download mode and wiped with Odin, reflashed CM7.
I had this happen with CM7 a couple weeks ago. A couple guys asked if I was using the actual Samsung charger and pointed out that it has some charging internals that work with a low battery situation that other chargers may not have.
So, were you using the Samsung charger or another USB power source?

G2x - overheat, won't reboot

Soo.. I overclocked my G2x at 1.2 GHZ running Eaglesblood 4.0.1. A few days later I was charging my phone and it got SUPER hot around the mainboard (the top area). Shortly after it was thrown in a pile of clothes and the battery popped out (oops). It won't turn on now. It recognizes the android recovery on the computer (pwr + up/dwn vol buttons) and I can flash recovery on it but it wont boot up. When i hooked it up to a charger (a wii) it displays the LG logo for about 5 seconds then the touch buttons lights up then it resets. Before today it would only display the LG logo for about .2 seconds then turn off (only when plugged into a computer).
What should I do? Could it be the battery, or did it overheat? Now, what should I do? Should I send in it for warranty (It had problems before anyways) and risk them being able to boot it and see that I OCd and rooted it?
Any help appreciated... Thanks

If you don't mind losing your internal sd card data you can try this and then flash the rom again to see if it fixes it.

I tried that (Thanks btw!). It formatted everything and sent the files over but it still does the same exact thing.
If I can't put a rom on it will they know I formatted everything? If so, will that void the warranty?

It seems like you have a stuck vol- button. Can you take a look and try tapping it lightly to see if it would release.
Don't know if they would if you have standard recovery... If you made a nandroid backup I can tell you how to push that... Then they should not be able to tell anything... Otherwise I think cwm is a dead giveaway

Actually most of the time you will be fine if you send in a rooted phone. There was a thread about this.

Yes, I forgot about cwm. I can flash stock t-mo recovery on before I send it in. How would I go about pushing a stock rom onto it?
Also, I don't think I have a stuck vol- button. I've messed with it countless times. I suppose I could take the phone apart and see if it's really stuck. Do you have any other advice? As of now the phone only turns on (it displays the LG screen but after about 5 seconds the logo disappears and the touch buttons at the bottom flash and it repeats. ONLY while plugged into a power source, though)
@zlopp - thanks!

You can use the reference link in the batch cleanup op. That one pushes stock 2.3.3. I don't think it is rooted either.
Does your phone boot loop or does it boot back into recovery?
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA
bootloop. I can't get it to go into recovery. It won't bootloop, or boot at all, unless plugged into a power source. Does that sound like possibly a failed battery? It was taking forever to charge and whatnot a few weeks prior..
Unplug the phone. Plug it into the wall. Hold the battery in the socket, but dont let it touch the copper conntectors. Turn the phone one. It'll show the lg screen. Before it turns itself off, plug the battery in.
let it charge for $15 mins and redo CWM recovery again.
6 month ago one of my friend g2x fried up the main boardduring charge, I have to paid $100 for broken phone to get the main board replaced

I can't believe it but it worked! However, once I flashed a rom and loaded it started giving problems. The battery indicator said 999% and the mainboard began getting a lot warmer than usual. Then it shut off. I turned it back on and the LG logo came up for 1 second then the screen flashed (A brief flash full of what looks like artifacts if a videocard were to fry) and it repeated the cycle. It looks like im sending this POS back to t-mobile

No problem. I was pulling my hair out when my phone did it too. It took a lot of experimentation to figure it out!
Now, onto the next problem. I suggest you run the g2x nullifier script to clean out anything on the rom. It might be messing with the phone. Then flash something known to be stable!
My phone also did the 999% thing. It was messing up a lot too, but the nullifier fixed it. Try it out

This SAME EXACT thing is happening to me except I had NO issues with the phone before. The battery had died down after a normal day of use, I charged it that night and then I wake up to it not powering on. Then with charger only a continuous bootloop of the white LG logo

(solved-post #7) Bricked phone+black screen

I have been running the new cm9 ics ROM for about 2 days now, and had just got all my data and apps sorted and fully working. I sat down, watched some TV, and after 30 mins i checked my phone. Black screen ( i assume its locked) i tap the power button, nothing, again nothing. I now think i must have turned my phone off. I now hold the power button, nothing, again, nothing. I grab my charger, put my phone on charge and notice no orange or green light. I have repeatedly tried to revive my phone but nothing works. I don't know if its the software, battery, charger, Im so confused. Please if anyone has had the same problem, or has any suggestions, i would appreciate it very much. Thanks.
some extra details: i charged my phone over night the day before, so it shouldn't have died ( i know you shouldnt charge overnight, but i do :/)
i wasn't trying to flash anything or messing around with files, it was in my pocket.
i didn't drop it

Don't panic. Stay calm. The most of our ics roms suffer from reboots or freezes at this stage of development. Your phone simply froze, this can happen with screen on or turned off. If the three button combo (power and volume + -) does not work, You need to wait until the battery drains out.
if you pull the battery there is a chance to freeze your emmc chip and really brick your phone. If you connect the phone to PC before pulling the Batt there's a little lower risk. But I still don't recommend to do so. After your phone is running again, you should overvolt by 25 to hopefully prevent your phone from freezing again.
Ps.
Really, please stay calm, this happened to me about 20 times on ics roms and I'm not the only one.

thanks, i will just wait then, is it normal that adb won't recognise the device? and also two things, how long roughly will it take to drain completely? and when it is completely drained, what do i do? charge as normal?
thanks a lot

1. Yes, if it's frozen adb does not recognize the device
2. Depends on how much loaded your battery was. Could be between 1-12 hours
For me very often it didn't need that long, phone restarted by itself after some time.. (30 mins?) But sometimes I also had to wait long..
3.yes, charge normal
Edit: since your screen is off it could take even more than 12 hours
post your results
Sent by my fingers to your head.
Nothing yet i think i will have to wait to tomorrow
EDIT: 11:00 am GMT still nothing, it's been almost 24 hours; should I just keep waiting?
And is there any way to tell wether it's frozen, or the Emmc chip is broken? Thanks
Hey, I've been looking around the forums, and it seems to me that my phone's emmc chip is fine. I admit I did, in a panic, pull out the battery and re-insert it, but on other forums people with a 'fried' emmc chip can at least boot their phone, mine is just completely un-responsive, with a black screen and nothing, when you put it on charge. Am I right or could you shed some light on the problem?
Thanks

Seems to me exactly like the freeze I and a bunch of others are suffering from. If you think you can take the risk, you could try pulling the battery.
1. Connect to PC first.
2. Pull battery.
3. Pull USB cable
4. Insert battery after few minutes
5. Try to reboot recovery with adb
As I said there is a chance of freezing your emmc. You might succeed, but you might totally brick your phone too. I'm not responsible, I told you the risk..
Sent by my fingers to your head.
I had a spare battery lying around, did what you said above, instead putting the other battery in and not going on adb, but nothing happened. I think I am going to have to try what you said above ^^^
Oh and once I have put the battery back in do I turn the phone on? It might sound stupid but I don't want to get it wrong :/
Alright a few details:
My phone connected to the computer with a battery in (I don't have a clue how full it is) is not recognised as a 'device with removable storage'
It won't charge (or the orange light won't come on)
Yes, to see if it's booting, I would suggest to turn it on
As I said, try to reboot via adb.
And I would recommend to reboot into recovery and flash another ROM or backup, you don't want to freeze your phone again today, do you?
Sent by my fingers to your head.
I've taken my bay out and am just waiting a few minutes :/
Alright it seemsbe booting, could be a boot loop though
Edit : it's working I'm on the home screen of cm9
You don't know how much I love you right now thanks so much for all the help (I didn't even need adb, it just booted normally 0.o)
Keep your fingers crossed
Edit: glad you already solved it.
You're welcome mate

As I said, overvolt by 25 to hopefully prevent the phone from freezing again.
Or simply do flash a stable ROM. I would prefer this as I don't like to freeze my phone and brutally pull the batt

I'm trawling through pages and pages of ROMs I think I will stick to stable ones now

I may have not the thread in its entirety..
But did you try VolumeUp + VolumeDown + Power button combination.
Which can often reboot a hung/stuck phone?

Is your power button maybe recessed or stuck? Could be causing it.

If it means aything it feels fine and passes CWM button test just fine.. It still has that slight click to it
EDIT: Ok upon checking again, as i haven't actually tried in a while it dosen't straight reboot, it reboots to recovery/CWM, the only reason i want ti to power down it to do a full charge on the battery, now i have been told this is frivolous but hey my battery is old, got the Shift when it first came out and it still last two plus days on a charge

You get two days out of an original battery . I would be very happy about that. If what your saying is that when you power down, and then plug it in to charge it reboots into Recovery. Then that is normal, it happens a lot on rooted devices ( not all but a good portion ). As for your device just rebooting as soon as you stick the battery back in. I'm going to have to agree with notso on this and say something is wrong with your Power button. It should not be doing that. I had that happen on a Shift that had been dropped. Turned out the Power button was damaged. It was stuck half in. Which caused a bunch of weird things.
Well then I guess I cant complain, but yes I get more then 48 hours from a charge, I charge it over night every other night and try to deep charge it once a month, seeing as i cant use mine to do it I use my wifes, my Full charges consist of Complete discharge, Charge to 100%, power down and leave on charger for 1 hour, then power back up and leave on charge for another hour once in a while during the Full cycle clear bat stats

I am able to get 2 days out of the the 2000mah or the original battery with drob's latest kernel.
Actually, a brand new factory battery seems to hold up better than the 2000mah batteries we got.
It's a htc charging while off issue if it powers itself into recovery once your phone shuts off. You'll need to talk to koush about it because the older recoveries can power while off but the newer ones can't because the older method no longer works on the newer recovery source code.

[Q] Let battery die after flashing new rom, now it wont charge

Ok guys, I'm in a predicament, I flashed the latest AOKP build 3 (clean flash) flashed IMOv.16 cache/dalvik/permissions and everything worked great. This was around 2pm. I spent the rest of the day just messing around with settings getting it how I liked it. even after several reboots. Now my battery dies around 11:45pm so I plug it up and it vibrates once, the charge screen shows for a second but the charging icon doesnt spin and then cuts off. tried it for about 30 minutes in the wall, 30 minutes from usb from computer, now its been in the wall for about an hour, if I unplug and plug it the phone does nothing, but if I pull the battery put it back in and plug it up to either power source the charge screen shows for about a second and then cuts off, but nothing happens after that any suggestions? has this happened to anyone else? what should I do?
Ok im not sure why that happened, but I fixed it. I pulled the battery, put it back in and instantly help VOL down + Home + Power and I got it tothe screen before Odin. So I was going to flash stock, but I figured if i can get into Odin I can get into recovery so I pressed down to restart phone instead of up to enter odin mode and it restarted and booted up, with a significant charge on it! Phew thought I had done something bad! :victory: My blood pressure is returning to normal now, but why did that happen in the first place? Will it happen again if my battery dies?
