looking for the facebook for android app that will sync contacts with a htc rom

that's my point, I'm trying to avoid using facebook htc sense, I want to use the facebook app only, but it won't sync with contacts. often the apk can be hacked to make contact syncing work

SyncMyPix works pretty well for non sense roms.

for non sense roms the facebook app works perfect. I'm trying to make that work on a sense rom

The normal Facebook app will sync your contact pics. It works perfectly on CM6.1.

correct but I'm using a sense rom because I have 4g everywhere now and the facebook will not sync

So the problem is with Facebook for HTC Sense? Have you tried a different ROM?

Sense can be bloated and I've actually come across the same thing.
The official Facebook once supported full contacts sync for a short time, it seemed to be slightly buggy then it just disappeared after the next update.
On another thought, I can't get ride of wakelock when I remove sense from sense-based roms. If anyone knows what causes this please PM me, I have yet to find any causes even when using debug tools. - Numbers just don't compute to what is causing the lock when I do dumps.

im using the stock deodexed rom and facebook syncs perfectly fine, if you having issues with it hanging i would try turing off the 3g and only have 4g on and see if that fixes your problem with the syncing if you have 3g and 4g they battle each other for signal causing hiccups and the network to freeze.
Click Menu - Settings - Wireless & Networks - And Uncheck Mobile Network.
Mobile network is basically the toggle switch for 3g
so if you have 4g enabled you will still have a mobile network but only when you have 4g reception

facebook for htc sense syncs, but not the facebook app. the option doesn't even show up if you're using a sense rom. if you use any rom besides a sense rom the facebook app will have the option to sync with contacts. I don't believe you have that option

Ive teetered back nd forth between HTC's facebook nd the actuall app on the market... personally ive stuck with htc's only bc it syncs everything not just pics... bdays events etc... the official app sucks b*** still no chat option nd sync doesnt sync all contact info just pics... plus it's always linking u to the actual website... the official app will sync your pics just fine on a non sense rom but thats it... yes some roms have the "hacked" verison of the official app which basically enables u to choose which contacts to sync, friends already in contacts or everyone" htc sense has already synced for u so why r u trying to make the official app sync over htc?

i think the OP wants to avoid syncing all 5000 contacts lol and i dont blame him i haver 3500 + and i hate how htc facebook sync's contacts

Email syncing

Is there a way to have my gmail pull my mail every few hrs? I was looking everywhere on my phone but I couldn't find it. I remember seeing this on my mytouch 3g 2 years ago but now I need help lol

Yes but you can't use the Gmail app. You have to use the HTC email app. It is preloaded on the phone. Under the settings is a option to tell it how often you want it checked. I don't understand why anyone would want to use it though when the Gmail app is true push mail and notifies you instantly if you get new mail.
Anyone know how to get push mail on the email app because I do like it's interface better than the Gmail app but I want my emails instantly without an app needing to check for new mail.

You could try setting up the htc email app using the active sync settings for gmail (like you would on windows mobile).
I have not tried this on the sensation but gmail had push enabled through active sync on other devices so I assume it would work.

How to stop contact photos being replaced with Facebook ones?

Like the title says ...my contact photos from my google account keep getting replaced with the linked Facebook photos after syncing...is there a way to stop this?

same question here.
i have disabled facebook syncing from accounts (after linking my contacts) but still the pictures get updated once they are changed on facebook

remove the Facebook account from "Settings > Accounts & Sync" ?

Yes, remove facebook accounts from accounts and sync then restart phone. Check your contacts again if it still has the facebook photos of your contacts. You can add the facebook to your sync account after the problem corrects itself.

What I did is some work but I went manually into each contact that Facebook changed and choose "edit". Touch the picture on the top left corner and choose the Google account for picture source then save changes. I'm sure it changed all of Facebook contacts but I cared about only 6, who are in my Favorites...

The phone replaces Google contact pictures with Facebook ones when you make a certain change in "People". It also replaces Phone pictures with Google or Facebook ones. I'm not sure it does this when ANY change is made to People, or just a certain one (like changing an unrelated contact picture).
It's an annoying bug… I doubt it can be fixed properly :\

Thanks for your replies, deleting the Facebook account in Account & Sync doesnt work as when u run Facebook it asks you for your login info & then just recreates the account...Changing the pictures manually back to google photos works until a resync happens then they get replaced with google ones again...

This method works... as I had the same problem, the only problem is it takes time, if you have lots of contacts.

when i'm signed into HTC Sense, are my contacts automatically synced to HTC sense? If not, how can I back them up using my gmail or google?

You should have a google account to use the phone....so...turn on sync and go into settings>accounts and sync and make sure its syncing your contacts....log in on a PC to gmail and check there to double check.....
It's a tablet dammit! Not a BIG phone....

you can just export your contacts to your sd. its better that way, its crazy syncd with gmail and now, in my gmail account, there are 4x the contacts I have. contacts multiplied. i don't know why. @[email protected] and its gonna be sad to have 2k of contacts jump in to your phone

I've always sync'd to gmail/google since my my first android phone in '09 (G1), never had duplicate contacts and never had to do a backup/restore.

I have used sync with MS exchange- works good, but yet have troubles add Skype contacts into exchange.

There is no problem with syncing to Google. Only you must never, really never, restore contacts from a backup. You should only use Google Contacts or a backup, never both. When you restore a backup, you will get duplicates. Been there, with only a small number of contacts luckily, and besides this, never had a problem.

Agreed! I have T-Mobile, and the first thing I do when I get a new phone, after signing into my Google account, is uncheck the damn T-Mobile backup in Accounts & Sync. Of course, once you root, you can say goodbye to that, but in the meantime...

So thats why. lol. before I was using the contacts in my google account as I was using a different phone. now as i am just exporting/importing my contacts from sd card.
So to export your contacts to your sd card, just go to "contacts" and go to options, you should see a "import/export" contacts. just select the export to SD card. then, give it a name and save. to import your contacts, just go to contacts and select "import from sd(or external - forgot the name)"

Wait. Are *all* of your contacts already in Google contacts (on the web in Gmail, not on your phone)? If they are, there is no need to backup your contacts prior to flashing a new ROM, doing a full wipe, etc. In fact, I don't recommend that. So...if all of your contacts (or other Google data like calendar and gmail) are in google/gmail contacts on the web, skip their backup. Then, after you wipe your phone and flash whatever you're flashing, just sign into your Google account, and your contacts and any other data on Google severs will automatically be downloaded (and then set up for 2-way sync) without your needing to do any thing further.
Does that make sense?

Exchange sync problem

Hi everybody.
First of all, my device is running Sensay XE35.
So let me explain my problem : i try to configure an email address via sense app and I would like to get it working with push. So I choose exchange activsync, I configure it, tap next, it begins to sync but when it's gonna finish then I have a notification which tell me that it fails "error of identification by server". I try several things and did several search but no luck
Hope you could help me to resolve this.

Exchange is only used for emails using Microsoft exchange servers like a work email. Who is your email provider

I'm talking about activesync in the HTC Sense mail app : it should work with Gmail.
Everybody got this working with push but i can't ! i'm just getting crazy !

Why don't you use the gmail app? And when you add a new account you're selecting exchange activesync?

Yes i choose activesync of course :/ i write my gmail address, my password, then next.
I also tried to configurate it manually many times but no luck always this error while doing first sync

i'm using the HTC Sense mail app as well for gmail. i have mine configured using exchange: username =gmail email address, password=gmail password and server address=m.google.com.

I think that is only for Microsoft exchange and that is why it isn't working
You want to.go.to settings > accounts and sync > add account and then choose mail and try it that way
