I am having a problem as well. It will work for about a min with barnicle and with the stock tethering then i just lose internet conection on my laptop says the device is still conected and still have the h+ on my device.
I did recive the blocked or terminated conection on barnicle i rebotted phone it worked for the min then same thing lost conections. turned barnicle off then back on when it started i recived the blocked or terminated connection as well.

Yay! Tethering is working on my phone......only issue is that the radio stays on even after tethering is disabled, but I was at least able to setup WEP security.

How did you manage to get it to work? I have barnacle up and running and see the wifi on my laptop and can connect to it. Only problem is, that I cannot access internet. I don't get any error messages or anything. It just seems to be a local connection and not routed through.
Any thoughts on that?
Thank you very much!

I used the wifi tether version

I had to adjust the settings a bit to get it working properly and to enable WEP security, but I have used this in my shop for over a week now flawlessly.

I added an advanced a task killer to remedy the problem I was having with it broadcasting when tethering was stopped.

The only issue now is that with the settings I am using, tethering starts with errors in the channel config. This doesn't seem to be effecting functionality at all....it just means that I am most likely locked into the default wireless channel.
Hope this helps someone. Thanks to everyone for their continued efforts!

Sorry for the individual posts, but you have to have 8 before you can post an outside link. Assuming that it works, my next post will include the link plus the prior messages in one post so that it makes more sense.

I used the wifi tether version that I downloaded here:

Wireless tether headache

Okay, here's the search I did with old outdated info from other phones that aren't relevant to my problem:
http://www.google.com/cse?cx=partne...9-1&q=mobile+network+repeatedly+disconnecting
Regaw's latest is what I am running. I am using wireless tether, the one that came with his rom, and it will lose internet connection about every 3 minutes.
Why is this a problem? Normally I use ICQ in my job, because I work online., I am constantly having to have people resend me messages and stuff due to this. It also interrupts and breaks any large downloads I do, normally larger than 10-20mb, and causes me a big headache when I try to work in FTP (for those non-tech-savvy, working in ftp is basically working on the guts of a website to make it work)
Are you trying to use your phone while you are tethering? I have only used wireless tethering once but I was playing with the options while I was using it and it wouldnt intermittenly lose connection. I just assumed it was because I was messing with my phone.
No, my phone is sitting on my stand, charging, and I have the wake-lock off so the phone sleeps. Did the same thing when wake-lock was on, too
Check your Wi-Fi sleep policy?
I am not sure if Tether over rides that or not. Maybe you have it set to a time limit. Just guess though, mine is flawless...as with every other aspect of my life...
I haven't used my wireless tether in a while, but I was also having this problem. After about 2-3 minutes of working it would stop. It appears as thought the data connection is dropping, because I was also not able to use the browser on the phone to connect to the internet. I had to diasble the data connection and then restart it. This solved the problem 95% of the time. There were 2 things I was going to try, but haven't. If you want to try them and see if they work and let us know, they are
1.Turn off data connection, turn data connection back on and then starty Wireless tether and then connect computer to Wireless tether
2.Turn off data connection, start wireless tether, connect computer to wireless tether, and then restart data connection.
If any of these work it may be possible to get a script or an app to do this.

That make me LOL, very funny!
What verison of wifi tethering are you using? I've had this problem before but that was using the newest 2.0 version of the wifi tethering. I reverted back to an older 1.6 version and i don't have any issues.

With the eris based ROMs I had no problem with using the 1.6 version, but after the Sprint leaked ROMs I have tried every version and still had problems. My solution works for me, but it is a couple of extra steps that I need to do that i shouldn't have to. It's just crazy how some peop;le have problem and others don't

dont have my phone by me... it's whatever version comes pre-packaged with regawMOD latest
I concur that it is weird how some people do have issues and others don't. I wish this app worked as well as the htc wifi tether app for the winmo phones.
Jerry43812,
I would just check the version then if its a 2.0 version uninstall it and then install the 1.6 version. If its the 1.6 version uninstall it and then reinstall. That worked for some of the roms that I've been using. I'm on the sprint leaked version now and it works just fine for me. I wish they would get the password working on it as well as hiding your SSID.
my friend had this problem on his hero until he turned on wake lock in the wireless tether app. leaves the screen on, but works

WiFi tether - still cant get it to work

Hey.
I've tried so hard but i cant get WiFi tether to work.
I've flashed some custom kernels which claims to have WiFi tethering working, but still!
can someone please tell me how to?
set your static ip on the computer to 192.168.2.100
set the subnet mask to 255.255.255.255
set the default gateway to 192.168.2.254
set the dns to 192.168.2.254
then install a terminal emulator on your phone and enter;
ping 192.168.2.100
now you should have connection, its scetchy so just wait if its not instantanious
JD
Used my tether (WI-FI spot) last night at a music store to download some drivers for a midi controler for my DJ software. just turned on the sprint app, and my laptop found it really quick downloaded the drivers for the program i was gonna test and i was done, just like that.
yey EVO!!!
wifi troubles
had the same trouble after the nand unlock wouldn't connect, i replaced the 2_0_5 pre with the 2_0_2-pre14 and it worked
good luck hope this helps
After the first stage root, I installed DamageControl 3.0 and both 4G and wifi tether wouldn't work for me. Installing Fresh fixed my issue.
Although I only saw people fixated on the 4G issue and nobody mentioning tether, it seems to me the two were related in some way.
I have not unlocked NAND yet. What was your process; where are you with your device?
2_0_5 works fine on my evo, its nand rooted. I just trun it on, no need to set anything. Then I fire up the laptop and just click connect to my androidtether. Transferred over 500MB this morning on it no troubles.
i have a question.. wireless tethering has been working for me very well, on wednesday i even had it connected for like 3 consecutive hours.. researching some homework for my humanities class.. but now it disconnects randomly.. with no warning or notification anyone know what can be the cause of this? its very annoying..
just download the one from the market. the one included in most roms doesn't appear to work for anyone either.
I have ran Fresh v0.2 and currently v0.3. I've never had any issues using Wireless Tether included with this ROM.
Those having issues: You are rooted corrected? If you are try the typical uninstalling/reinstalling. Titanium backup would allow you to backup the App and reinstall it. If that doesn't work try a different Rom.
Process of elimination.
2.0.2 works well on my ipad.
I am rooted with SimpleRoot, but that alone did not work with Wifi Tether. So i went ahead and rooted with Unrevoked...WifiTether works well after that. Good Luck.

[Q] Will WI-FI issue be fixed on CyanogenMod(Gingerbread)?

I've been having Wi-fi issue's ever since i bought the phone, traded it in for another one, and still had the wi-fi issue.
MY WI-FI issue was:
My phone would connect to my router the first time, and if i restart my phone the Wireless Symbol is still connected, but there are errors not letting me connect to the MARKET, or the WEB BROWSER!
i'm very upset! but i do love this phone, and i hate that this one wifi issue is ruining it for me!
i dont want to keep on factory resetting it over and over again!
I don't want to:
ROOT It
QUESTION:
WHAT CAN I DO TO FIX THIS? :[
Wait for GB or nothing

what percentage would u give it that the wi-fi issue will be fixed in the next update?
It seems the wifi problem is caused by the bloatwares, probably myaccount. either way, after I uninstall those my wifi works like a charm.
how were u able uninstall them?!

I have this issue sometimes. I can get the wifi to work by:
1. Turning off wifi
2. Turning on 4G data
3. Turning off 4G data
4. Turning on wifi again
Hope this helps.
I had a similar problem. Wifi would show connected to my router, but it would only sporadically let me actually access anything (market and browser).
Then, by chance when I was trying to use the browser, I got a message that read: You do not have the correct data plan for this device.
I hit the chat support on T-Mobile. Apparently, a feature had not been enabled on my service. (My SIM was in my Nokia N900 before and it worked fine on HSPA+). The support tech enabled it and my G2x was working in 10 mins. Never had any more problems.
There was no charge and no change in my data plan -- it was just some config thing about my account.

It's a shame LG has forced its customers to do weird dances just to get basic functions to work.
Do you have a trick to get the battery to last a day?

If you are having WiFi problems with stock ROM, it is either your hardware (unlikely) or possibly an issue with your TMo account and/or SIM. I have had no issues with mine - either before or after rooting and flashing a few ROM's. I have My Account still working - no effect.
If you are looking to CM7 to make it better - not in the immediate future. I have it on another device, and a notable issue with CM7 WiFi is that it is not as strong or stable as stock.
You should get TMo tech support on the phone and have them address your problem. If a tweak to your data account and/or a new SIM doesn't fix it - you should demand a replacement phone.
All this assumes it is not problems with your WiFi Router - I have had a few issues with some where having more then one or two devices active caused connection problems.

follow this link for you battery
I rooted the device, and removed carrier preloaded apps and made sure my wifi was set to not disable when the screen turned off. I had had issues with wifi calling before and after all that, the audio is crisp and the wifi rarely drops
work around
With a stock configuration you can clear
this problem when it occurs with
setdns app (free).
It restores working dns configuration.
When this is NOT sufficient you may also have to
disable then reenable your wifi. I installed a one-click
wifi on/off app (free) for this.
This is also necessary to force a reconnect when you
go in and out of a memorized wifi zone - it will rarely
reconnect automatically.
I found that rooting the device and freezing the bloatware
only improves the situation only slightly so I don't believe it's
worth the time.
This is at least the 4th wifi thread that's been opened and I've
posted this workaround before. Can we sticky one of these??

[Q] Why is tethering so unreliable on this phone?

I've tried tethering using foxfi (never works no matter which rom I'm on), android wifi tether (SSID doesn't show up 90% of the time), mobile hotspot (data connection drops out randomly), and native tethering in CM10 and I've always had problems.
I never had any issues on my past phones (Droid1, DroidX, Thunderbolt, Nexus, Rezound). Does anyone know why tethering is so buggy on this phone? Anyone have suggestions on which tethering app to use? The only way I can get the SSID to show up in android wifi tether is if I reboot the phone. I've tried all of these tethering apps/methods on beans, synergy, and CM10
My settings for android wifi tether are:
Device profile: Galaxy Nexus CDMA/LTE
Routing fix enabled
I've also tried
Device profile: Generic ICS
Routing fix enabled
Thanks
Foxfi works for me but for some reason I have to wait around 2-5 minutes for it to work

I don't use it a lot as I don't want to take too many chances with losing my unlimited data from a VZ TOS violation, but when I do use it it seems to work just fine.
I used it last night for a while at a meeting where somebody else needed an internet connection & it worked just fine.

Are you using a custom Rom? Could that affect it at all?
WiFi tether for SynergyRom is pretty buggy (wasn't working for me at least). But FoxFi was working fine when I tried it. Although like a previous post, it would take 2-5 minutes for it to actually start working :/

Thanks for the info on foxfi. I'll try using it again. I hope they can fix android Wifi tether soon as I use it every day: (
I have the exact same issues with Wifi Tether app. SSID likely to not appear but a reboot fixes it.
root6 ROM, same behavior stock versus having frozen a bunch of stuff. For quite a while I thought I had frozen something that made it work but after some tinkering I finally flashed back to stock and discovered that it's just unreliable. The only reliable answer for me is to reboot immediately prior to firing up the app.
I have found that my laptop causes a connection delay sometimes... it is that stupid windows "identifying network" thing and it will prevent internet connectivity until it finishes. I have not seen the missing SSID at all and I have used both FoxFi and the stock stuff. I use it quite a bit (at least 2 hours per day, sometimes as much as 9) so I have a pretty good amount of time with it. I disconnect and reconnect at least twice during that in a typical day as well (out of range, or just not using the machine so i put it in hibernation).
I am on Root66 and have nothing frozen.
I have no issues using Wifi Tether on my stock rooted ROM. Here are my settings:
Device-Profile: Generic ICS
Setup Method: Auto
Wifi Encryption: Enabled
Channel: 01
WiFi-driver reload: checked
MSS clamping: unchecked
Routing fix: unchecked
DNS: 8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4 (personal preference)
Disable Wake-Lock: Checked
Im using Foxfi....Works ok. I sometimes have to disconnect and reconnect because it seems to become inactivate. But its doing the trick till I get my home internet back up.
I too have the same issues as op. All of them are very inconsistent, its extremely annoying!
I am using a stock ROM. I use foxfi daily and have not had any problems or delays when using it. I have not changed any settings in the application itself other than changing the ssid. It only takes the 5-10 seconds to stop or start the tethering.
However WiFi tether on the S3 never worked for me.

[Q] Wifi Tether not working

Has anyone else had issues with tethering? I tried Foxfi (with add-on) and Elixir2 without rooting, and they both only work some of the time. Most the time the computer can connect, but there is no data exchange.
After rooting, I've tried Wifi Tether (in the Google Play store, v3.2_beta2) and good ol' trusty Wireless Tether from the Thunderbolt days, but those don't even show up as wifi networks my computer can see. Anybody run into these problems/solve them successfully?

Can use wifi Tether toggle to access stock tether app. I use Toggle Panel in Market on all builds that don't have toggle in dropdown. Works on all carriers. Worked on Sprint Note 2 this morning also. One thing I found while on tether if lockscreen locks it will slow way down. Mine drops from 600KB/s to 10 kb/s. Any rom with 15 toggle mod has toggle to lock lockscreen open and will maintain speed. Also wireless tether 3.2 beta 1 works on Synergy for me set to Galaxy Nexus (CDMA/LTE) with routing fix enabled.
Yea man I noticed the same thing, Fox fi would only work if I hadn't used it and if I did all I had to do was reset.
As far as everything else I don't know why they haven't been working maybe an update is in the works for those
