[BRICKED] Any1 tried Disconnecting+reconnecting battery - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've done some searches on unbricking Xoom tht coursed by Partitioning SD using ROM MANAGER, seems theres no way to unbrick, but i've seen a few ppl saying disconnecting battery and reconnecting would do the job?
Has any1 tried?
THanks

I highly doubt it. Think about what they are doing when they "partition" the sd card in the xoom. What they are really doing is wiping the entire memory of the xoom. Its like deleting your entire hard drive on a computer and expecting a disconnect of the battery to fix it. By all means though, I hope I'm wrong so I can stop seeing 5 threads a day about someone doing it.

SD card trouble

Most of the time my phone will not recognize my SD card. I've got the one that came with it(why does if have a Samsung card ?). It's not rooted and all I have installed is apps from the market.

Have you attempted to make a gold card? If so you might have gone wrong doing so

Nope,no gold card.I've literally done nothing to it.

A few people on this forum (including me) have had this problem. At least one person mentioned seeing it with a 16GB card, so it is probably not just a problem with the stock card. Popping the card out and back in should allow you to remount it from the settings.
I've noticed this has happened to me before after removing my phone from the charger. I wonder if it has something to do with the "Connect to PC" setting. Mine had been defaulting to "Disk drive", but since I have set it to "Charge only" I haven't seen the problem again.
I'm hoping this is just a software issue and not a hardware one.
I've had problems with mine as well but I found something that works for me. I use the "Safely Remove Hardware" on my pc, wait a few seconds and then re-mount. I almost never use that feature but it seems to help reset things for me.
I have seen this problem also on the stock card, Ive always used the "safely remove hardware" option when disconnecting it from the pc but yet it randomly disconnects itself from my phone. However i also do the disk drive setting when connecting it so i will have to try putting it to charge only
mine has always been set on charge only and it does it all the time. im gonna call att in a little while and have a talk with them about it. cause if its a hardware issue i want a different phone plain and simple. is everyone elses card a samsung 8g ?
Yes, mine is a samsung 8GB.
i did a little searching and it happens to the incredible as well regardless of the brand of card or size, sadly the forum i found it on never had a solution
Mine starting doing this before I left the ATT parking lot. At first I thought it may be having problems because of all the syncing the phone has to do during the first hour or so of being connected to your google account. A week later and it was still doing it once every two days or so. I took it back and they gave me a new phone and I haven't had an issue with it.
Some people are saying that it may not have been inserted correctly and to remove it using the spring mechanism and to re-insert it. this helped a few people from what ive read. that however hasnt worked for me, but may for others
ive taken mine out and cleaned it off jiggled it around and anything else you can think of. ive never had a phone with this prob. before. guess im gonna have to roll by the att store 2moro and get a new one.
just went to the shack and got mine replaced, the guy that handled it all said that the evo had the same problem and was fixed with an update so im hoping htc can get this fixed
i just wanted to make sure i wasnt the only one having this problem. guess ill stop by and get a new phone in the morning
Got my new phone and its working good for now

Disappearing apps?

When I shut down my phone and restart it, ill have 8 or so apps missing when it reboots. Anyone else having this issue or know of a possible fix?
Sent from my MB865 using Tapatalk
There have been several users with that issue. It appears to ne a bug in the software and so far the only fix is, if you have apps moved to the SD card, move those apps to internal storage. This happens to be a major software bug as the Atrix 2 is not the only Motorola phone that has seen this issue. Like I said, keep your apps on the internal storage and that should temporarily fix your issue. I would also suggest calling Motorola and if they try their normal troubleshooting steps, just lie and say you did all of that already and let them know you are not the only user with that issue and they need to get on the ball and code a maintenance update fixing the issue. Until they do, just keep your apps where I said and you should be fine.

We're investigating the issue. For now we recommend keeping your apps installed on the phone memory if you are going to be regularly connecting to your computer to access the SD Card.

[Q] my inspire may be dying

As of a few days ago, my inspire has learned a new trick.
but before I explain what is going on, heres the situation im in.
Ive Been running Icecoldsandwich for about a month now with some random UI/hot reboots here and there which is to be expected, no big deal.
however as of about 3 days ago, my inspire started to fully reboot from the white HTC screen, Werid, but **** happens so i ignored it.
Now it is doing this about every half hour,no matter what, i dont even have to touch the damn thing and it does this. Im Beginning to think its a hardware issue.
Heres what Ive tried so far
-battery pull (nothing)
-was using BLN which uses more power in standby so i upped voltages a bit (nothing)
-disabled BLN (nothing)
-disabled/enabled start up tweaks (getting desperate)
- restored an old backup of black ice which never had this issue ( STILL REBOOTED WTFF)
-some other stuff that i cant remember
Now i have an PD98IMG.zip on my sd card which was made when i originally rooted my phone and am about to restore that, but I have a feeling that wont help.
The only thing i can think of is that its a hardware issue, because after restoring that backup this issue shouldve disappeared and Im really at my wits end. SO before i throw the damn thing across the room and smash it, can anyone PLEASE help me out.
Im not new to the whole rooting game so dont treat me like a noob, ive been messing with this phone for a while now and this is the first time ive had an issue like this, which seriously appeared out of nowhere for no reason. Ive been on Ice cold sandwich for over a month now and this just started.
Thanks for any help/advice, If anyone has encountered this issue please contact me
PS: sorry to make a thread about this but ive searched both inspire &desire hd forums and came up empty handed.
You didn't mention anything about your micro sd card. Will it boot without the card inserted or using a different card freshly formatted? Corrupt cards or cards that are almost full can cause hair pulling issues.
Hmmmmm. That's a very good point you bring up there. My cards got over a gig left on it but hasn't been formatted since I rooted the phone.
I suppose I'll try that though since im out of options.
since I had to make it a "goldcard" will there be anything I need to do after I format it to make it work correctly?
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
Also, it does boot without an SD card, I'll see if it turns off with it out
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
Does not matter if it is a gold card. Will not affect anything. If your phone does not reboot with the card out then most likely it is going bad, has corrupt files, has apps or widgets moved to it that really should have been left on the phone. Or you used a backup app to restore system files that may be causing issues.
If having the card out allows your phone to run without reboots I would format that card, wipe that phone, reinstall a ROM and start clean and fresh.
This behavior could also be caused by a bad battery. Are you still using the original? A lot of them were pretty crappy.
well It still reboots with no sd card in it so I suppose it isn't that.
As for the battery, it is the original and that would make a lot of sense cause I leave it on the charger a lot.
my sister has the same phone so ill have to swap batteries and see if that makes a difference
thanks for the advice guys, I'm months from an upgrade so I really need to get to the bottom of this.
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
If it does turn out to be the battery, I would recommend an Anker brand replacement. They are pretty good and cheaper than the Seidio ones.
well I can rule out the battery cause I switched them and it continues to reboot.
I'm beginning to think it's the radio because it doesn't seem to reboot in airplane mode and it seems to reboot more when I'm driving, perhaps when switching towers.
I'll experiment with a few different ones and see what I get
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
okay everyone well its been some time now & I am still dealing with the same BS.
It has recently come to my attention that im not the only one dealing with this problem so I want to refresh this thread & perhaps get some new advice & options.
heres where I stand:
ive tried everything from roms-radios-batteries - everything in between. adjusted voltages, & every single setting available.
What ive found so far is that this issue is almost definitely signal related, when in airplane mode my phone Does not reboot.
ive also been advised that removing the sim card stops the reboots as well.
ALSO, I turned off 3g/4G for a few hours with only 1 reboot.
however I feel that was due to a different reason cause normally my phone reboots at least once every hour if not more.
im losing my mind & am about to smash this POS if I cant figure something out.
Is it possible its ATT related?
Should I return to stock? (unroot) -(really wanna avoid that)
WTFF. please, someone help! im going nuts!
Again any advice would Def be appreciated, & if anyone else has this problem please chime in & state your position.
sorry for the long post, (trying to be thorough)
& Thanks in advance

[Q] phone overheats with ROMs

Hi everyone,
I'm having overheating issues with the custom ROMs put up in the forums here. It's really frustrating because I love the interface but I can crashes and overheats pretty often.
I was running a rooted i727r with official ICS, I used ROM manager to flash to paranoid android ICS and JB, I also tried liquified (I think that;s what it's called) and everything runs great except I sometimes get overheating (up to 45 degrees celcius) at which point the phone just shuts itself off. And the worst part is that the battery gets super drained when that happens. I have done nothing to trigger and has happened when it was in my hand as well as in my pockets when in sleep mode.
I don't want to run official ICS, so if there is a solution, I'd be really grateful!
Also on an unrelated note, I can't get swype to work on these custom roms, does anyone have an idea?
Thanks in advance!
Use clockwork mod or twrp to flash and if you haven't yet, try your roms with the stock kernel.
Don't use rom manager and do some reading.

ROM Manager can and will brick your phone if you use it to flash ROMs on a Skyrocket. Read up and learn before doing things like that.
Stay on stock rooted and see if the problem persists. If it doesn't, switch to a TW-based ROM and use the stock kernel. If your phone is still cool, then move with caution into AOSP territory (which seems to be where you want to go) and consider UC'ing/UV'ing AFTER you've read up on them and understand the possible side effects.
my phone gets hot sometimes, but usually when i'm browsing for a while. doesn't seem to be overly hot though but definitely hot to the touch

I don't mean to sound defensive, but I've read all the stickies...they tell me how to do things, not WHY to do things (kinda like a recipe book). I might be ignorant in the technicalities, but I know my way around following instructions. Telling me to just READ is not helping me, telling me WHAT to read or WHERE to go is better, and I'll be glad to read.
I took your many advices and flashed back to the semi-official ICS using the CWM recovery. The overheating and crashing problems are no longer happening, at least not during all of today which is a good sign in my eye. I still don't have an indication why it wasn't working when I used to the ROMs provided in the development section. I follow the instructions to the tee and I still had the problem (even when I used the CWM instead of ROM manager pro).
I was having severe heating probs. I never let it get so hot that it autoshutdown but I'd do it manually. I found that there was a serious wakelock happening and even while awake media scanner was going nuts. On it's own it just chewed up the battery but combine a high useage app with media scanner and the phone got hot. I ended up doing a stock rom install via Odin, reformatting my ex sd card. It's been good ever since. You haven't been using Zedge by any chance??

No it wasn't installed because I loved the roms built in ringtones but I did notice that it was taking longer than usual to read the media from the external sd card...do you think it had something to do with that?

Could be. Try pulling everything off your sd card and put on your pc. Format the card and put everything back on.

It is the Media card...a couple of my friends have had the overheating issues on their devices. I would suggest formatting the media card on the PC as previously stated. If that fails then try another SD card since it could just be the SD card.
Thank you all, I will give this a try and report back!

I will opt to say that it might be more related to how you are using the phone.
I've ran plenty of custom roms even OC to 1.9ghz but the phone will get hot no matter what with heavy wifi usage or talking I must say.
With that said, the custom rom will most likely not help unless you aim for roms that aim for that kind of purpose.
Others may beg to differ but that's my 2centz.
Alright, so I did what some of you said and disabled the media storage at start up. The crashes and overheating are fixed! But, now I can't see my pictures that I stopped in the external sd card when I'm browsing for them through my files or through the gallery. I can, however, see them through third party file browsers. It's there a way that I can at least see them them in my gallery? I tried f5 but it didn't work.
Thanks in advance

Issues with Galaxy S Blaze 4G (Help!)

Hey guys,
It has only been three months since I purchased the Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G, and I currently have a few issues that really are bugging me out. I will bullet them out to make it clean and easier for you guys to read and figure out.
ALSO -- My phone is rooted, rocking a custom rom (AOKP JB Blaze 4G: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1989825)
1. Every time I take a screenshot, picture, download something, or just about any piece of data, my phone for some reason saves it all to my internal storage device, which is barely 1 GB. I have a 32GB MicroSD card, and bought the SD card with the intention that I can save all my data to that, never having to worry about my 1GB internal storage getting full. Is there any way to fix this? My phone is rooted, rocking a custom ROM, and I really don't see how this can be an issue. Can someone help me to fix this issue? I am a real noob when it comes to stuff like this, so I would appreciate detailed instructions!
2. My phone currently has an issue where every time I get a notification, the 4 LED touch-buttons on the bottom of the phone start blinking. I prefer it to not blink at all (as I would instead like to save precious battery life).
3. Even though its only been three months (less than a month with the new ROM) I noticed that the battery life is not too amazing, it drains out REALLY fast for some reason. All I really do on my phone is web browsing and visiting a social media app (facebook, twitter, etc...) and that's really it. Is there a way to possibly fix this as well? Could it be the ROM
4. When I drive, I often use my phone as a GPS, and what's funny is, even though the phone is plugged in (and technically charging), the battery drains out. I don't know how that is possible, as the phone is plugged in and charging through my car. Could it just be that this phone was never meant to be used as a GPS? Or is this another problem that can have a workaround to?
Anyways, that is my list, I'd really appreciate your help to solving all those issues, as I use this phone as a daily driver, and need all of the phone's functions working without problems.
Thanks!

Im new here also as of today. Im sorry your having issues with your phone and the rom. I have been doing alot of research on this phone we have as Im still stuck on Gingerbread. I just went off contract from Tmobile and recently rooted it. Getting ready to upgrade the rom.
I have read in some posts that the JB rom did have some problems with recognizing SD cards. Seems to me that I read that this was changed in a later release. I wish I could find that thread again and show you but it escapes me. Is this a stock ROM for JB that you are using?
I do have a question for you. I want to upgrade from gingerbread and thinking CM10. However, I do have to make sure speakerphone works. Any problems there?
I would guess at this point that you should try another ROM.

Ok, Most likely the vold.fstab file lists the mounting points for the phones filesystem. It will probably be a text file and I would suggest making a backup copy before modifying it. Otherwise you could really screw things up.
I have not viewed this file yet because I dont know of the exact location yet. I found a link but Iam a new user and not permitted to post it. Do a search for vold.fstab and you should easily find a link for editing it.
Basically, Your going to edit the fstab file and change the settings for mounting the sdcard. I would think a reboot of your phone will probably be the last step.
Hope this helps, From one learning to another

You should be able to disable the flashing LEDs (also known as pulse notifications) through the display settings.
I'm not certain if there were device settings in the 4.1 era.
Battery life on 4.1 was garbage. I could only imagine the GPS drain.
4.3 had the best.

Sorry for the multipost, but I was wondering if someone can still help me out with my other stuff I am trying to figure out:

The GPS navigation on the blaze takes a lot of battery. If you have the phone plugged in the battery won't drain as fast as compared to not having it plugged in.

To be honest, I never had a battery life problem on 4.1.2, one reason is I didn't use Google Apps (I had gapps package installed, but the minimal package), I also followed this thread:

If you like push notifications from Gmail and other Google dependent apps, ignore that thread. Otherwise, it will improve your battery life. The other reason was I never ran cm10. I ran @thomas.raines ParanoidAndroid 4.1.2. Imo, the best cm10 based rom the Blaze had. But that's MY opinion. He's taken down the link, maybe you can try and chase him down and see if he'll re-upload it for you...
