Hey Guys, I'm not new to Android, I'm just new to DS and it uses some kind of hibernation instead of normal shutdown, so how do I turn it off? (S-ON, noRoot, Stock ROM)
I mean when I need to replace battery or change the SD card...I did that once with the "turn off" button, but after my DS started (normally) it told me the system had recovered from a critical failure... and I don't like doing that to my DS
Thanks

O,
I've been pressing the Power button and selecting the Power Off option too and have assumed that that was exactly what was happening, I haven't as yet received the message that you mentioned.
Well, did you try to take out battery after you turn it off that way? That's when I got this message...And does it only take the DS a couple of seconds to turn on then? If so, you also have it only hibernated somehow....
Bro, what's happening is "fastboot". It's a feature that allows an HTC to boot in 10-15 seconds after being turned off. If u don't want fastboot, go to Settings>Power and uncheck Fast Boot.
Aaaaahh Thanks! I knew there'd be a simple solution, thanks!
Glad i helped

Greetings,
I just upgraded to the 2.02.00 ROM last night but still have the occassional lockups. I need to do a soft reboot to get the phone to respond. I believe when it locks up, the radio is still running since I see the blinking Green LED for the GSM. I have to switch off the POWER MANAGEMENT option of "Turn off in x min in not used" for battery power to be able to use the device for calls. The only level of battery saving I am stuck with now is the Backlight auto-off and the beam settings.
Is this something others are having as well or are any applications the culprit?
Thanks in advance for your assistance.
Regards

Try the power button
All buttons..including the power button...no response.
try holding down the power button
or setting the backlight to atleast one notch.
Urm... uh... ah.... eeee... aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh.
I can confirm this behavior on my MDA Pro (G3).
All ROM versions the same like Bhameed's on my MDA, ...except bootloader of course.
Anyone else noticed this on 2.02.00?
Hold on, can you guys be more specific with this? Are you absolutely sure it doesn't come back on when you PRESS AND HOLD the power button??? Really sorry if I sound like I'm being pedantic, but just from what you've written it sounds like you don't know how to turn on the phone???
hahahaHAHAHA!!! awesome reply spyder
ok, yeah i was thinking this is an issue of not being able to turn on your phone.
yeah what's going on that was different from before?
There have been only few moments where you think "Surely not"... I hate those moments, I'm just hoping this isn't one of them! If it is a genuine problem it's pretty serious and needs to be addressed, but if not.... well, I don't think I should say much more
Please please please say this is all a big joke. I'm tired, please excuse me.
I confirm this behaviour!
And more!
My Qtek freezes... freezes... and then PUFFF. Dead.
I wait some minutes (30 minutes) and I can turn it on again.
I'll send it to qtek.
Mine has a thing sometimes where there will be a pause between pressing the power button and it coming to life... sometimes if I get impatient and press the power button again it will turn it back off before it's come on.
I don't really get it though. Does it freeze while it's still on, or while it's turned off? If it freezes when on, there's plenty of info about how to prevent freezes (mostly 3rd party apps + reg tweaks).
If it really does freeze when off, then please let us know anything more on the issue that you can.

Mine freezes everywhere. Bootscreen, Pin code menu (when u type your pin). It depends.
then pda doesn't turn on.
Many problems.
Just go to the assistance. :\
1.Sometimes it freezes while its on. For Instance I had program opened and then whenI tried pressing X to close nothing happened. I had to use the red hardware button to close. Wonder why.
2.I too agree while the phone boots and is searching for network, it takes very long, Meanwhile when the pin enter screen come up, unless the network is fully searched one cannot enter the sim pin code, it has few freezes. or at time the phone signal icon disappears on top bar and again you need to reset the phone.

Again, I don't have this problem for some reason... I get very few freezes at all.
I think we're getting away from the original point of the post though... and normal freezing is well documented in most OS threads with means to prevent it.
Same here...Confirmed. Tried all button combinations to get the display back (short presses and long ones), but then end up having to do a soft-reboot to finally get the phone to work properly....

And then you don't have other problems? Like freezes?
EDIT: I flash the original rom but the problem still here
I wonder if this could be a memory leak like someone suggested.... I'm sorry guys, I haven't experienced this problem, and I haven't seen any posts about it until this thread, is there any chance you guys with this issue can keep an eye over your memory status over say a couple of days to see if there's a leek and keep us posted? Once we find out what the problem is it should make a solution easier.
I experienced this problem as well using a cooked WM5 ROM on my HERM200 the only fix I found was migrating to another ROM. I'm currently using CUSTEL_Cing_v1.3, the battery life sucks but I love WM6, it is so much faster, I'm still tweaking and trying to resolve some other issues but other than that I am quite happy with it.
If you are experiencing the lockup I would suggest moving to another ROM as an option, that worked for me. Although a clean install usually fixes a lot of problems.
Please help me guys... my xoom , i bought it new,its about 2 weeks ago, and i've just installed adobe reader and evernote from playstore, but.... now, after i press the power button in the back, it goes off, and i want to turn it on again, so i press the power button in the back again, but its "too long to turn on", i have to wait about 3 mins, i'm getting frustated with it now, so how can i make it right??
please help me guys... very need your help...
I'm afraid there probably isn't anything wrong with your Xoom.
Newer Android devices have a feature, lets call it "Quick Boot"...which allows a device to be turned on in seconds! But what is actually happening is, the device is never properly off. The RAM is stored, and when the device is turned on again, it resumes...sort of like your computer hibernating.
You can check this out by comparing the boot times of turning a device off and on, and rebooting...where everything is shut down. Rebooting should take about 50 to 100% longer.
The Xoom however is ever so slightly too old to have this Quick Boot feature. When you turn the Xoom off, it is off properly. And when you turn it on, it has to load everything fresh.
Give it a chance though. The Xoom might be getting on a bit now, but it is still a great device. And if the boot time is annoying you so much...simple...don't turn it off!
Hey there all,
I recently purchased the ZTE Majesty from StraightTalk, and I honestly couldn't be happier, great phone, great company, etc... However, one thing I have noticed is that when I go to turn my phone off, instead of the "Power off" option actually shutting down the phone, it puts it into some sort of hibernation mode. I've been unable to find a way to turn this off (I've Googled, tested, tried, factory reset, pushed, prodded and called to no avail), so I thought I'd turn to xda with my problem. I've included a screenshot of my power menu, in hopes it'll jog somebody's memory, or help me turn this damn thing completely off, as hibernation uses battery. Anybody have any ideas?
Thanks,
Rexen
Solved
Go to:
System Settings > Accessibility > Quick Start
Click that check-marked box and you should be good to go! :good:
If you still have problems please reply with some specifics and I'll try my best to help you.

You have to got to your settings and turn the QUICK START off
Hi all !!! Sorry for my English but I need your help
I commented what is happening with my phone N5 (which for good and evil is always stock without root or anything, with corresponding OTA updates.)
1- Yesterday afternoon at lunchtime while reading a book in playbooks, I notice that suddenly disappears one line and then appeared intermittently. I close the app and noticed the same thing happening on the screen menu. I shut down the cell and turn on again and I thought it must be an application be kidding. But still does.
2 Also yesterday I happened to change the security on the phone screen. After a while of normal operation, try to turn it on the screen with the button, nothing, the screen goes "black", with light and retrolight turned on but no picture no nothing .
Called the cell to see if it works or is turned off and the phone rings but the screen nothing. Try turning it off and on again by holding the on / off / lock button and the phone restarts, but the screen nothing. In one such attempt to do the above it is seen that managed to turn it off. And I get it on and do a normal boot, except that the picture of my screen is changed to the original. Change the lock screen which was previously using (slip). And it seemed that out or some conflict with the lock. In one of those again pressed the ON / OFF / lock as would normally and it starts all over again.
After I magically back to life, I want to make a full wipe as I think it should be an app that is doing some conflict or something. BUT ....
3I turn off the phone and then press the keys VOLUME UP / DOWN and ON / OFF is normally off, squeezed the first screen with the options but options RECOVERY / BOOTLOADER appears in red I choose RECOVERY give the ok with the key and .... andriod robot appears with the legend below that says something (I do not remember well) without or without controls options appears. So its seems thatI dont have recovery.
After that keep pressing the key ON / OFF and the phone turns off and / or reboot normally. All this I did it again to see if the error reappears and looks that I do not have recovery.
The failure of the screen is increasing. I dont know if they are separate problems or is it all the same problem.
Sorry if I was too long but I need the help of you.
UPDATE Now it seems that the screen died, since I do not achieve to turn it on as before, the light and the retrolight its ok. The phone receives calls and notifications but the screen stills black.
Thanks all.

sometimes things just "derp". itll happen more often if you dont reboot your phone often. also, your phone will be a little bit more responsive if it gets reboot once a day or two.
RMA or fastboot it back to stock, if the screen doesnt turn on afterwards then it looks like a hardware issue, open device and reconnect the display.

Thank you Republicano!!
I think too that its a hardware issue. I already see on you tube problems like mine.
Thanks again!!
Whenever I turn off or reboot my phone from the ROM's power menu the system takes a second or two to close apps and then turns off. While the reboot utilities turn off the OS the moment I press the reboot/power off option on the menu.
Are these utilities safe to use as they seem be like yanking the power cord off of a running device?
(I'm on 5.0 preview and the power menu is limited to just Power Off for now, and I'd like convenient options to go to recovery/bootloader, but not at the cost of corrupting OS files, thanks)

Not really. I didn't give you a useful answer. I didn't know the answer the first time I read the thread. You're right that it needs to unmount the filesystems cleanly when shutting down, but whether that's what is happening when you shut down via the power menu that causes the delay I don't know
I use the "reboot" command all the time though, and I haven't lost any data yet
Yeah it usually works safe enough, but I vaguely remember an year or so back on my N4 it created some problem, and I stopped using any abrupt reboots. Stopping to use those was easy on custom ROMs anyway.
The logic is sound. If there's some file activity going on, an abrupt reboot will cause file system corruption - hell we use safely remove on USB drives too, this is a whole computer.
