Oh Hello everyone.
So , I'm having a Xoom MZ600 ( Honeycomb 3.0 + Root ) right now.
Today, when I'm using it, there was an update ( Android Update - HMJ37 - 28.8mb ).
So if I install that update, what will happen to me ? Do all of my data will gone or I will lost my " Super user power - Rooted " >.< ?
What should I do ?
From what I hear, the OTA will most likely not even install. It will run a system integrity check and fail. Regardless, there have not been any reports (that I am aware of) of the OTA bricking beyond recovery. Personally, I recommend bigrushdog's method of installing and rooting 3.1 (with sdcard support!) as it will preserve your user data. However, as always, keep a backup of everything. Stranger things have happened.

I've looked high and low, but I can't find info on updating to 3.2 from root. I'm mostly terrified of losing everything I have setup on here when I update. Mostly just apps, movies, pics, and my layout. Can anyone put my fears to rest about updating? And can anyone provide a link on where I can get my hands on the update to install manually since it won't do an automatic update?
Thanks
lav0C,
If you are running the stock ROM and have CWM recovery installed,
you can use CWM to update to the latest 3.2-9 (8.6.5.9):
1. Update from 3.1 (8.4.4.11) to 3.2 (8.6.5.6) using the ZIP from this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1190877
2. Update from 3.2 (8.6.5.6) to 3.2-9 (8.6.5.9) using the ZIP from this post:

It worked for me!

Eric
I have an overclock rom on my tablet. I don't think I can do it this way. I tried to flash the rom but it just spits out an error. It's able to mount it and everything, the moment it trys to impliment the changes it says that it was aborted. Any ideas?
Also, I have the Netflix patch. Not sure if that will cause problems too

You're right - the CWM updates I listed are for stock ROMs only.
You may have to 1)un-root and go back to Asus standard HC3.1,
2) update to 3.2-9 with the Asus OTA updates, and 3) re-root.
I think your data would be safe during that process, but I'm not sure.
how do I safely un-root?
I used your method to attempt to put 3.2 on after updating 8445 to84411 but i got stuck in a boot loop and had to flash Prime 1.5 to get it back on.
any suggestions?
I rooted my asus transformer pad tf300t two months ago. Lately my tablet has been promting me about an available update from Asus. I have my doubt about updating my rooted tablet using an official update, so I did a bit of research. And it seems that normally we are adviced to NEVER update directly from a rooted tablet...
Is that true? Do we need to reflash to get rid of the root first before we update?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
1. Remember to get your /system/apps and /system/lib back to stock state before any OTA update.
2. Make sure apps (especially those that came with the stock, however irrelevant e.g. Netflix) have not been frozen / uninstalled with Titanium Backup or other applications. Sometimes some stock apps (even after factory reset) don't match SHA1 sums. Replace modified apks in /system/app to those that originally come with your stock version of tablet as found in About Tablet.
3. You will need a build.prop that hasn't been modified too! Look around to see if you can find one for your SKU.
4. If you have Chainfire 3D installed, you'll have to uninstall the 3D driver, wipe data and cache for the Chainfire 3D app, and uninstall it before update.
In any case, just go for it.
I did that naively. Update failed miserably (worry not, boots back into your pre-update state!). Looked for a way to put the update file manually into /cache partition, update still failed cause of modified/frozen apks.
Added default apks from some dropbox shared link somewhere on these forums, update still failed due to the Chainfire OpenGL driver issue.
On correcting that problem though, update booted to Jelly Bean!
Oh, and if you wish to keep root after update, remember to change Superuser app to SuperSu, then install OTA Rootkeeper from Google Play, save root. Temporary unroot just to be safe (possibly not essential). Then update!
Hi,
I deleted some apps with Root Uninstaller, and now cannot do OTA update.
Is there a way to download stock apps? Om still on 9.4.3.26 firmware back from April, but it is very buggy - crushes all the time - really need to update it. Please let me know were I can find stock Apps
Thanks
I tried to do some digging, but the firmware just looks a bit dated for any meaningful results to show up. A few build.prop dropbox links have been taken down now that it isn't much used. Even the Asus support site doesn't have a US SKU image of the .26.
I guess your best shot may be to try one of the manual upgrades to .29 and then to V10.4.2.9, or to unlock your bootloader. However, I have not done a manual upgrade yet so I wouldn't know the troubleshooting bit. These instructions seem simple though.
I've been considering for a while (since I got the notification for the update 4.1.1) to try installing new update. But after pondering through various internet article over this topic (& update), I am now in dilemma. So I am asking you guys to give some of your opinion on these questions,
1. My HTC One S (International version) is already rooted, so if I updated to 4.1.1, will the root remain ?
Actually I did try twice to update, everything went fine (downloading & installing) but when the device restarted, I ended up in the recovery mod and when I rebooted my device again, it just booted up 4.0, what did I do wrong ?
2. Is it worth updating to 4.1.1 or going through S-Off procedure and installing Canogenmod 10.2 (Android 4.3) instead ?
3. Will I see vast improvement in 4.3 as compared to 4.0.3 ?
4. For those who have already on 4.3, how've been your experience ? Are there any problems like Internet disconnect randomly, app crashes ? or compatibility problem ?
My suggestion is to update to 4.0.4 (my understanding is that you are still on 4.0.3), that's the best IMHO (and certainly WAY better than 4.0.3). If you decide to go this way you need to use the 2.31 RUU (search for it in the forum).
Hey community,
after updating my 5.0 LTE 32 Shield Tablet some month ago and rooting it, I came to the conclusion that I don't really need root, but would like to continue receiving OTAs and have a device that just works.
Prio1:
Have a tablet with the latest updates installed.
Prio2:
As 1, but rooted.
I have made a apps+sysapps backup with Titanium.
What do you recommend as the next step?
Thank you very much.
All the best, Esshahn
Some additions:
1. I noticed I'm actually having 5.0 on my Shield. It's the 5.0.1 update plus the nVidia stuff that comes up all the time in the notification center.
I really just want to undo all root and whatnot actions and have a right out of the box experience on my Shield. I already did some stupid stuff (factory reset) and therefore lost my personal data anyway, so there's nothing to lose.
I noticed this forum isn't really active. If anyone doesn't know the answer, but could point me to the right forum for help that would be nice too.
Thank you
flash the full OTA through recovery: https://forums.geforce.com/default/...hread-released-2-17-15-/post/4464815/#4464815
then reinstall supersu through recovery, no factory reset needed
Thank you for replying.
I got annoyed by it all yesterday and flashed 2.1, now I don't have root or custom recovery anymore.
Now the fun part: When I want to update to 2.2 normally (since it's now supposed to be a standard device without any hacks), it just shows the error robot.
So now I'm stuck with 2.1 and can't move left or right.
After reading all those comments about messed up colors in 2.2 I'm wondering if its actually worth the effort to update?
Any idea on that Bogdacutu?
Thanks,
Esshahn

you can flash the full OTA through TWRP or CWM, no idea why it won't work with stock recovery though
the update supposedly fixes the graphics glitches that appear in various apps on update 2.1, that might be a good reason to update
Thank you!
Actually, since I didn't have CWM installed anymore, I just sideloaded the latest OTA, which worked nice.
HI
Is it possible to downgrade back to 1.5 after installing the 5.0 OTA update. I am currently on 1.5 (rooted with stock recovery)) and use the K1 with my DJI Phantom 4. Need the ability to go back to 1.5 if 5.0 has any issues with the apps needed for the drone.
Yes, it is. Just flash the 1.5 factory image and ignore the update message. You will loose all your data.

I did that and it worked out in the end. However I had bootloops the fist time. So I booted TWRP via fastboot, wiped all partitions, including "system" and then reflashed. Then it worked like a charm.
For completeness sake: I then regularly updated to Nougat via OTA and rooted it by sideloading SuperSu 2.79. No problems whatsoever (finally ... ).
Has anybody else successfully downgraded back to 1.5 Marshmallow. They state on Nvidia Shield Zone not to attempt to return to Marshmallow or it will brick your device. I have also read of others successfully downgrading using various methods and others encountering problems but as yet not read about anyone actually bricking theirs whilst downgrading. I am trying to find the best/safest way on downgrading with minimal issues.
