After getting my 15 foot HDMI, 5 foot HDMI cables and my Body Glove case today I've been testing everything I can throw at this phone. In the end I only noticed the cable loses connection when you really move the phone around.
Played the following for about 5-30 minutes each:
Robot Unicorn Attack
Pocket Legands
Angry Birds, Rio and Seasons
Armored Strike
9 Innings Baseball
Bejeweled 2
Cordy
Dillo Hills
Pinball Deluxe
Rocket Bunnies
Speed Forge 3
What the Doodle!?
Stupid Zombies
Tap Defense
N64oid - Nintendo 64 emulation (Works like a charm!)
Even if I feel like the G2x is not lasting as long as my HD2 with an extended battery***...this phone is godlike and just makes me want to buy a bluetooth controller to play Zelda on the big screen again!
*** Disclaimer:
Of course coming from a phone with extended battery this phone is lasting about 12 hours with HIGH use of texting, gaming at work, music, more music, downloading, e-mails, package tracking and a picture here and there.
What extended battery are you using? Where'd you find it?

It was on my HTC HD2 and I found it after searching google shopping.
But for the G2x I don't think there is a extended battery for it yet. But for those who need some extra life should get an extra battery.
Comes with a desktop charger for the extra battery so when your ready to leave the house and going to be out for 12+ hours should help.

I also just got my HDMI cable yesterday, and I gotta agree that gaming on here rocks. Just so you know, Wii remotes don't work on any variant of the T-Mobile stock ROM, you'll have to use a CM nightly.

I also just got my hdmi cable yesterday, from amazon. I was amazed at how incredibly smooth everything is through hdmi mirroring. The tegra 2 is really showing its stuff. Quick question, is the hdmi mirroring supported on cyanogen yet? I tried the first nightly, but ended up switching back quickly due to other issues, and didn't have my hdmi cable when I was playing with it.

Thanks; here's hoping that'll get fixed before the first stable release.
For what it's worth...
I thought HDMI mirroring was more buggy on stock. My phone would sometimes turn off as soon as I plugged in the cable and if I rotated my phone while the cable was in it DEFINITELY did not like that and would also shut down my phone (and drain battery to 0).
I've had absolutely no issues with HDMI mirroring on CM7 (including rotation) however playback in landscape is not so great.
Overall, I'd say performance was better with stock but it was way buggier. CM HDMI is more stable but worse performance.
Just my 2 cents...

Hmmm, thats odd; I didn't run into any of those issues during my tests. My first thought would have been it was a hardware problem, either the cable or the hdmi port on the phone...but that wouldn't really explain why your cm7 build isn't exhibiting the same problems. Maybe its similar to some of the other issues that seem to plague some G2X owners: the presence of reboots and what not seems to vary from device to device. I love my G2X and haven't had any problems, but there seems to be some quality control issues for the batch as a whole.
Out of curiosity, where did you get your hdmi cable from?
EDIT: Also, what player were you using in both stock and CM7 to test your video playback?

I tried playing a movie on youtube and in CM7 video player using the latest nightly and it would interrupt to a black screen for a second, every 30 seconds on my HDTV (but continue playing on my phone). Flash back to stock, and this didnt happen at all.
Does anybody use a bluetooth controller that works good? If so can you guys post a link? As soon as my hdmi cable arrives I'm going to install one of those emulators and test it out!

From what I understand, it's an issue with LG's Bluetooth drivers, so most likely not.

With which rom?
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
I don't think a stock LG rom will support the bluetooth profiles unless they add them in with the GB update.
At this time, CM based roms are the only ones that will work with bluetooth gamepads.
There was already a thread on gamepads that listed pictures and pricing.
I'ved played several emulators and games via HDMI and no problems. Phone screen has to be on though... hopefully they fix that.
I am on my 1st warranty phone of the G2X and it was having overheating issues, i think i have solved that (I wasn't formating the /system in clockwordmod, so i think old files were conflicting and causing cpu time to be eaten and burn up my phone, now it's staying a good 31c while asleep and unplugged, but now i can't use the hdmi out on the TV, i can with my computer monitor but not my tv, on my brand new g2x, the one before i got this warranty one, the hdmi to my tv worked, but it was overheating...but most likely not becuase of the phone but because i was going from rom to rom incorrectly....i have only tried it with Ultimate G2x 1.0 ROM, I am probably going to switch to CM7 w/ faux123's new 0.1.7 kernel if alot of ppl say good things about the new battery reading changes. idk i just wanted to see if other people have HDMI issues with diff tv's or diff roms....i work by a radio shack so i'm going to try it on one of their tvs.

I have this same problem, it is a hardware problem caused by using an HDMI cord that caused a short. Lots of people are getting this due to using monoprice cords. Search g2x HDMI monoprice. Unfortunately it is a hardware problem that cannot be fixed, when you sent in your phone on warranty they probably sent you back a refurbished that was broken by someone else. You need to send it back ASAP and ask for new phone not a refurbished.
well if the output of the phone was burnt out, then it wouldn't work either way. Just make sure all the settings are correct. Your monitor is probably 1080p or better. Your TV?
There were some issues with settings and auto. There could be a number of issues at hand and/or it could just be the phone.
I would try another rom. CM7's works pretty well. There are no settings and AUTO is hardcoded.
I've played with the HDMI out with my monitor and while it works, sometimes I had to screw with the orientation, unplug/replug, toggle phone display on/off, etc.
Once the monitor detects the output, it is golden. But I think there is a period where the monitor looks for a signal and after that period, if nothing is found, it stops looking. Could be the same way with the TV.

I would like to think that its something that could be fixed, but I have tried flashing multiple ROMs including a virgin stock froyo all with the same result.
My HDMI did work properly when I was using a short generic HDMI that I got with my accessory kit, but as soon as I plugged in the monoprice HDMI the battery level instantly dropped to 0% followed by the smell of burning electronics, now the HDMI out only works on a PC monitor but never a TV. I literally went to Sears and they let me plug it in to 15 different TVs and none of them worked. From what I have been reading in these threads:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1057564
http://forums.t-mobile.com/t5/T-Mobile-G2x/HDMI-crashing-phone/td-p/824403
It seems to be pretty common and no one has been able to get their HDMI to work properly after it fails.
What I would like is if there was some was of forcing HDMI on instead using the auto.
Is anyone having a problem with the hdmi signal cutting out on their g2x? i plug it in and i was watching a netflix movie, it would go black for about 2 seconds and then show again. Thought it might be a netflix problem till i tried youtube and also playing a movie off of my sdcard. The picture looks great and it seems to be working perfect accept for the screen going black. Its pluged into a50 inch plasma 1080p tv and im using eaglebloods gingerbread rom which doesnt have hmdi options in the settings is this an issue with that rom?
same.
I have the problem, its so annoying, only happens when mirroring hd video. Maybe its the cheap ebay cable im using? or the rom?
if you guys are using CM7 its a common issue since CM doesnt support HDMI output. thats why there isnt a setting of it, of course it still works with games and everything but the movie playing is what it has a problem with. hope this helps
So i got my eeepad and its great but i find video streaming a little slow.
I am using emit and love it, streams great on my Galaxy Nexus phone and my dad's Samsung Galaxy tablet but on my eeepad i get some issues with stream quality. The high quality setting for dual core devices is a little laggy, but otherwise good quality. I tried lowering the settings but the lagginess continued throughout all the profiles, just with a lower video quality.
Speedtest.net on the devices show similar results so i'm not sure it's that and its all running on a n network so i don't think i should have trouble streaming video.
I was wondering if this was an issue or if anyone knew a fix to stop the lag.
I have broken my charger so battery has been low (<20%) could this be the issue? A new one is on it's way anyway.
What version of FW are you on, ICS for the transformers is having issues with flash/video playback and wifi. It could be either of those things.
You could stop it by rooting and installing a custom kernel with the fixes
I'm on 4.03 at the moment. But that sounds exactly like my problem. Thanks for the info.
As mentioned I am missing the charger for now so i will look into that as soon as it arrives.
You can try the PERI one-click root tool in my signature for an easy route, that's about the only thing you can do as of now though, untill ASUS fully fixes their firmware.
I'll be waiting a bit anyway. As mentioned no current charger but I will keep it in mind when the time comes
What I observe is the entire system halting for about 0.8 seconds: video does not progress, sound cuts out, display cuts out; it's as if the whole system is flash frozen for one second. I observe this on the stock rom (4.2.2 august) a custom rom (4.2.2 finless october) and (pic)Ubuntu (4.5). Could this be a power supply (PSU) issue? I've used the stock PSU but heard sometimes those are not enough, that 3Amp is recommended. I'll try to dig up another 2Amp and see if I can also get a 3Amp. Anyone experience these symptoms? (Yes, I've been searching) Thanks for reading!
EDIT
So the display seems to be the only thing cutting out. Processing does continue, and I think audio cuts out because it's running through the HDMI. Yup, just tried USB audio and it keeps going just fine. I'm going to RMA since on one else seems to have this problem.
