Hey all. noob here.
Was replacing the recovery.bin and update.zip to try out flashing the deodexed KD1 and rebooted to recovery using the quickboot app right after i replaced the recovery.bin file. I guess i should've rebooted normally first, before into recovery... All I'm getting is the first splash screen now. I can't get into stock recovery, download mode... anything. Thoughts?
haha!!!!! finally got into dl mode. odin'd the *****. all good.

for future reference, recovery.bin should just be recovery. re-download recovery file and place in system/bin

Ensure you have root first!!!
MOD EDIT: POSTERS ARE REPORTING THERE ARE HAVING A LOT OF ISSUES WITH THIS GUIDE, THREAD CLOSED.
Use SuperOneClick 1.7 to gain root (USB debugging enabled) Get it here:
1. Download "3e_recovery_installer.zip" from here:
2. Open SuperOneClick and run Shell Root with your phone plugged in. Once finished, close.
3. Now run the 3e Recovery Installer. When finished, close.
4. Now flash ClockWorkMod Recovery via ROM Manager by selecting "Vibrant" when asked for phone type. Then reboot into recovery. (You may need to reboot your phone if you get stuck on the ROM Manager "Reboot to Recovery" screen) (Just reboot, then attempt to reboot into recovery again)
5. At the blue recovery select "reinstall packages". The first time will fail, run it once more, and you should now have the green CWM Recovery menu.
6. Wait for Team Whiskey to release an amazing ROM!!!

I'm getting this error.
"E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
(File exists)
Can't mount /data/!"
so this is a confirmed method to get rom manager / clockwork working for the SGS4G?
i must be doing something wrong because i keep getting failed.. but i am following the instructions to the T..
Just letting you know, this will NOT work. The 4G has a different partition structure than the Vibrant. CWM will need to be built for the 4G due to it not having a internal sd like the Vibrant. Once CWM does come out for the SGS4G please let me know. I already have Bionix Frost ready to go for it, and will have Black Ice ready this week.

I just did this about 30 min ago to flash a battery mod and it works like a champ. As usual hold both volume buttons and power buttons down until samsung appears on the screen the release the power button. You will have to select reinstall packages twice then it will take you to the green modified 3e recovery.
I forgot to mention that once you replace the stock recovery with the modified 3e go into rom manager and flash the clockwork mod recovery for the galaxy s i9000. This will place the update.zip file on your sd card.
So thats great news, thank you! The only question i have is step two how.to i make it a.read/write system? My.imfuse.runs.fine with.stock i just cant flash anything but.it.does turn on.... And i have flashed cwm multiole times still no update file?

You can mount the system with a file manager such as root explorer. The update.zip file will be located in your internal storage /sdcard.

Glad I found this. Going to have to try this.
First off, i'm sorry if there are posts on this. I searched this site and Google to find my answer. I tried flashing the Infused rom first, the flash didn't work, I was stuck in boot loop. I eventually used Odin to get back to stock. I decided to go with the SuperCM7 instead to try my luck with that. I am rooted and have installed CWM through rom manager(galaxysi9000 as im sure you all know. I'm trying to follow the steps on infinitybiff's post(directions for flashing....) Anyways when i try to go into CWM recovery, i'm taken to the standard android <3e> recovery screen. Should I try downloading CWM to my sdcard and trying that? Any suggestions would be great!
Just manually replace the recovery file.
Could you guide me through that? Sorry im a noob.

no soup for you.
sorry had to do it. Seinfeld was a good show.
Hahaha, yes Seinfeld was a good show. No worries got my phone up and running, now to try this flashing crap again... OK, update.zip is on my INTERNAL SD CARD and still not booting into CWM. On the verge of giving up.
Did you try to manually replace the recovery file yet? ROM Manager doesn't always seem to work for it.
My method :
Flash the kernel+cwm by sgs kernel flasher apps.
if your rom.
Froyo > Community kernel v8
GB > Infuse-GB 1.0 kernel

I prefer method 1 in that thread. Always works for me.
I got it rooted, installed a few apps and everything seemed to be working fine, i shut it off for the night and woke up yesterday morning and it gave me this screen.
(I cant post a link, but if you google Firmware Upgrade Encountered, it pulls up quite a few pictures of this same situation.
I can't get into download or recovery mode. The samsung logo will appear for a split second before this screen appears. Kies does not reconize the phone. All i want to do is get my phone to turn on and go back to stock settings.
Can anybody please help me?
Use odin to flash the stock rom. Did you pull the battery?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
Im not sure where to get the stock rom.. and when i get it should i put it next to PDA and tick the same boxes i used to root it? Also, do i need to use a pit file?
EDIT: Also yeah, i did pull the battery out. Thats the only way to turn the phone off now, as it is completely unresponsive.
Go to Sammobile.com. you'll down load a zip file. Use 7-zip to extract the .tar.md5 file out of it. Use that in PDA. Only have auto-reboot and f.reset checked.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
Sorry to be such a noob.. but I looked around on that site and can't seem to find a .zip file to download.. the only files i can find are for phones that aren't mine.
You'll have to register, it's free. There is a firmware section on the site. It'll walk you through the type of phone, etc. And then give you s couple of files available for Doreen load. The newest one is ics
Damn spell correction

Im not sure how to tell if its recognizing it, I did try that with the battery, and after it downloaded there as an MD5 File and an application extension. what should I do with the extension?
You don't need the extension, just the md5. When you plug your phone into the computer with Odin running, the batter needs to be in, does the com port light up? I'm also assuming your Odin version is 1.85

Someone please help, my G2X is in a bootloop. I was installing a ROM in CWM Recovery v5.0.2.0 and as it was nearing completion and it automatically quit and took me back to the beginning of CWM. So this is where I think I messed up, I hit reboot system now. It rebooted, showed the LG logo and took me back to CWM. It does this everytime. How do I get out of this bootloop? Please help! I have no phone until my HTC One comes, and it's on backorder unfortunately..

Use the ROM for recovery or cleanup batch. Make sure to backup data from internal SD card.
