[Q] Super Bricked? - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I was messing with ROM Manager and thought it would be a good idea to "partition" the disk space so I could have a SD partition for using recovery (Yes I am very amateur at this whole thing). Anyway it turns out that it doesn't work at all and now my xoom is completely unresponsive to all button commands or anything that I looked up. There is no screen it is just black and does nothing.
Is there anything I can do or am I doomed?
The xoom is a 3G US model btw.
I appreciate any and all help.
Yes, I did try the Hard boot, that does not work either

i would try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=980803

This seems like a lot closer than anything I have seen, Only problem is from what I gather I am supposed to open software, press vol+ Power and it should turn on.
If I am missing anything please let me know
I did update the drivers using motohelper and I have RSD v 5.1.6
I also tried v 4.9 but it did not work.
Thanks in advance

I tried to sync it with my PC no response. Also i did back it up with " Microsoft My Phone " earlier in the day and its backed up on WMDManager too. I will try to take it to sprint for warranty and see what the will do. HAPPY NEW YEAR people!!

Depending on what happened, it's a yes/no situation. What did you do?
Try this:
get into bootloader mode (tri-color screen): Take out the battery for one minute. Put it back in. Getting into bootloader mode is done by holding the Volume down button while you do a press/release of the Reset button. OR hold the Volume down button while you do a press/release of the Power button.
That should get you to bootloader mode. Now, plug in your USB to the PC. Flash a CDMA ROM from there by running the .exe. If you cannot do that, transfer the .nbh file (rename it to "RHODIMG.nbh" [no quotes]) and follow these instructions.
Good luck, and happy new year!
*The majority of the CDMA ROMs can be found at PPCGeeks*

Well, this forum is for CDMA TP2s, but I'll help.
So you took out the battery for at least one minute? Then you put it back in. Get into bootloader mode (T-Mobile version: phone is off, hold the Volume Down button while you press/release the Power Button. Keep holding the Volume Down button until the colorful screen shows up).
When you're in bootloader, plug in your TP2 to your PC. Now run the .exe of a GSM ROM and follow the steps, as if your phone is synced to the PC. (aka flash as you would usually do).
To flash via the Storage Card: On your PC, go to Start > My Computer > Removable Disk drive (something like that; make sure this is your phone's Storage Card). Drag the .nbh of a GSM ROM there. Rename the .nbh "RHODIMG.nbh" (no quotes). Unplug your Phone. Take out the battery again for one minute. Now, go back into bootloader (hold Volume Down button and press/release Power button [keep holding the Volume Down button]). Follow the steps to flash the phone.
Good luck.

You did exactly the reverse of what I did, and the instructions already given are how I resolved it: put it in bootloader and flash a compatible ROM. I flashed a stock ROM just to be sure, but that's probably not needed.

See if you can do a hard-reset right now. While phone is off (which it is), press and hold Talk/Send, End, and Power button at the same time. Wait for a screen to pop-up. Follow steps to hard reset. That will bring it back to factory defaults.
If it doesn't work, maybe you could post your question on PPCGeeks, where a lot of CDMA people go. They might be able to help you.
Can you Unbrick a Touch Pro 2
Hi to all,
I'm a new here and a little desperate . I flashed my rom by using a raphael update instead of Rhodium. My phone got bricked. My phone is a Sprint HTC touch pro 2.
At the moment, it will not boot, when I plug it to my computer and it was looking for qualcomm cdma MSM drivers.
I tried sof and hardware reset including the boot loader. Nothing works. I also tried using different RUUs. Nothing works. I hope somebody can help me.
Fixed the problem...bought an android...ha,ha...

Well if you can power it on, and go to bootloader, then your phone is just fine. Just flash a Rhodium ROM.
I suggest take battery out, and put it back in after few seconds, to see if it powers on. If not, leave it in the charger, and see if it powers on.
After installing the HardSPL, I decided to flash my US Cellular CDMA phone with a GSM rom and of course it bricked it. The phone would only boot to bootloader, so I was going to have it repaired for $70. But if I was willing to flash my device, then I'm sure as willing to look for a DIY solution somewhere. Goodthing I searched this forum, because the answers where right here!
Just format your microSD to FAT32, install an extracted stock ROM kit to the root of the SD insuring you rename the .nbh to RHODMIG.nbh and place the other extracted files on the SD as well. Place the microSD in your HTC Touch Pro2 and boot to bootloader. You may have to take steps to get to the bootloader, mine booted to bootloader automatically anyway at that point. Follow onscreen instructions, and your Touch will be as good as new!
thanks a million for helping me unbrick my tp2
wow man thanks a million, i followed the instru and it worked but was slow so i did task 29 and flashed the rom i wanted and it works great, i really appreciate your help on this
How did you get to the bootloader menu. I am using CDMA HTC Pro 2 by Sprint. Thanks

keeps rebooting?
Hello, I'm wondering if anyone has experienced the problem I'm facing:
I have the latest Energy rom, with Android 2.3 on SD card. Android proved to be quite unstable and requires soft resets every now and then. Most of the time I would let it boot into WinMo and then run Haret again to get into Android.
Yesterday I left in running in Android all day, and in the evening I noticed the phone had died. Thinking it was just out of battery, I just plugged it in, let it charge for a few hours, then tried to boot it up. But it just kept rebooting, never getting pass the Touch Pro 2 boot screen.
Did hard resets twice, same thing. Re-flash the rom, same thing. Took out SD card, flashed again, same thing. Everything I tried, it would not get pass the initial boot screen, and just cycles the reboot again. Oh by the way, the hard resets and re-flashes are all successful with no errors.
Anyone have a solution to this? Thanks!

Try flashing another ROM or try putting in another battery and see if the bootloop issue goes away. Kindly update the status of your post if you fixed the issue or are still having problems.

Pantech Burst Bricked HELP!!!

I recently picked up a Pantech Burst phone from At&t, and upgraded to ICS. I then proceeded to root the phone using the prestoroot.img method and it worked. Everything was running dandy until I got the VM Heap tool app and(stupidly) set the vm heap to 52m and attempted to reboot... It failed and all I got was a loop of boot up animations. I tried several times to reboot, and then tried to boot to recovery mode and factory reset. That worked, but it STILL didnt reboot..! I dont have a backup, and whenever i try to " Install update from external storage", it just fails over and over again. I found thestock firmware and downloaded it to my external sd card and install(still to no success). Im only 13 and cant afford a new phone! PLEASE SOMEONE HEEEELLLLPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bricked my phone few days back doing restore from CWM 6 downloeded online from ROM manager,
I wiped cache dalvik etc & rebooted, I could see the Tap the android screen then suddenly blank now it wont start
I get QHSUSB_dload in PC device manager any way out
I tried this method but I dont get the download button to click it remains greyed out.
Is there any driver for QHSUSB_dload?
Or do I have no hope at the moment or in near future?
just don`t use ROM manager for installing recovery . usually the result is bricked phone
Yah, i remember a fastboot brick i got from rom manager (LG Optimud ME)
Sent from a 2.8 inch screen
I also just bricked my Pantech Burst the same way...using ROM Manager. Is there a way to fix this or am I out of luck? I did try the method posted at the top of this thread. It just gets locked in the S/W Upgrading screen. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Mine did not upgrade successfully, but I have the exact same problem. On day three of waiting for a callback from Pantech on the issue. They are supposedly talking to the techs in Korea about it.

Don't know if this is going to help, but I had the problem (as I described) red S/W Upgrading and couldn't do anything. Well, after about two weeks of sitting with the battery out, I decided to redownload and rerun the Pantech update app, and lo and behold, it fixed my phone. It also installed a more up to date version of Android 4.0, I went from 4.01 to 4.04.
This is after running the updater a good 30 or so times the past two weeks hoping for anything to work, now today, bam, it works fine.
I would recommend anyone in this situation give the most recent updater a try, it may solve your problem.

Bricked Pantech Burst Stuck in S/W Downloading Mode and completely wiped ...
Ok I am having a similar issue guys. Last night I had to wipe my phone because it was overly full and I switched providers and the phone had become unusable. I tried using clockworkmod to do this and it wiped everything ( including clockworkmod. ) Now I only get a S/W Upgrading screen with a red box. I tried using the pantech download tool and the PANTECH_PRESTO_BIN_JUUS03122012.pdl file. It did appear that it was installing it but then it became stuck at the very very very end of things. I basically had to take the battery out to do anything at all as I had left the phone on all night to download the pdl file but without any luck.
When I reboot the phone it had the S/W Upgrading mode with the red screen. I've tried all of the different key combinations on the pantech burst etc volume up + volume down and power, volume down + power, volume up + power. None of these things will reboot the phone.
I am hoping I can use the pantech download tool to install a different pdl instead and possibly get it working that way. I know that when the phone is off if I plug it into usb then the screen lights up on it with the S/W Upgrading screen and the red box. If I press the power button or any other combinations of buttons + the power button it also does this. It literally will not do anything else.
I cannot use pantech pc suite because the phone originally was so unusable I could not put the android apk file on the phone even though I have it on my laptop.
I tried using adb and fastboot and it will not even find my device through ANY usb port on the laptop. I've tried deleting and reinstalling the drivers over and over. The only thing I know to do is reboot afterward and hopefully it will find my phone on usb with adb. If I can just get to a bootloader or flash functional firmware onto this phone I think I could get it working but I do not know enough about the pantech burst to try physically jumping anything on it in order to hard reset it.
So my only options right now look like maybe get a different pdl, possibly reboot and the drivers may find my phone, or JTAG this thing.
I can't put it in usb debugging mode because it won't boot. Since adb does not even find the device as being attached it seems as if this phone should be operating in a different port mode or something to make it visible. I could be wrong but I am hoping that rebooting fixes the driver issue and makes the phone visible.
I tried PDAnet also and once again it does not work because it cannot find the device. This could be a usb cable issue I suppose but I only have this particular cable I am pretty sure
I might try another cable as well...
Any other ideas ? Am I going to have to JTAG this thing or should it be fixable using the download tool and a different pdl ? Or do I need to find another way to completely wipe the phone first and THEN use the download tool with the pdl file ?
It does get a bit confusing with so many mods, roms, and methods to recover android phones. If I can get the phone to boot then I can reload my backups and all should be well. I do need this phone for business purposes also. Any ideas guys ?
PS> I am also pretty decent with linux distros like arch or ubuntu so I would like to also know if it would just be better to do this in linux and possibly use linux to manually switch the phone to a different device mode to make it visible in the instance of there being nothing wrong with the drivers.
Thanks for any ideas or suggestions ...

OK quick update, I found the pantech burst upgrade tool and the burst-hack.cmd script
I managed to successfully find my phone with the upgrade tool and it completely ran its course and I am guessing it installed Ice Cream Sandwich.
My new problem is that the phone goes to the pantech logo boot screen if I plug the phone into usb but that is all it will do. If I unplug the phone and try to get into S/W Upgrade mode again or power it on it will not do anything at all. Basically the display only comes on when plugged in at this point so I am wondering if the battery is even charged or if it will charge. I read somewhere ( in the gizmolord forum ) that a guy had the same issue as me and he ran this tool for his pantech burst and then left the battery out for 2 weeks and tried to power it back on and it worked for him.
Is it possible that I just need to power the device down completely and let it completely discharge before it will reboot or is this thing bricked ?
I am thinking that either the battery needs to charge, or the phone needs to discharge and power down completely, or the phone could be bricked. I have a feeling it is not bricked because the update tool said everything was successful and no errors or anything.
I will try leaving the battery out for awhile and letting the phone discharge on its own and see what kind of results I get. I would think that 16 - 24 hours would be sufficient. Any ideas ?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok so I did a bit more digging and research and found out that the culprit is most likely the poorly designed charging circuit in the pantech phones. I found a tech blog called Mikes Techblog where he shows how to solve this on a pantech jest phone with the same issue. The problem is that the battery is 3.7v and is currently reading 2.8v on the volt meter. The phone will not even attempt to charge until 3.7v is available on the battery because of how the charge circuit is designed. I am going to try the usb cable trick and usb adapter and see if I can monitor its progress with the voltmeter and get it back up to 3.7 volts. After this it should allow me to charge it normally and should boot just fine. It is showing the pantech logo which tells me that the firmware is there and isn't buzzing or doing anything else weird so more than likely this is related to the battery and not having enough of a charge when running the official upgrade tool. This problem probably had already existed prior running the update tool and is why the S/W Upgrading screen only would come up AFTER being plugged into a power source and would disappear immediately. If the battery had any charge whatsoever and if the phone could see it then I would see a screen that tells me to plug my phone in and charge it. I am thinking this is solved but will only know after I charge the battery. From what I've been reading in comments from others the battery issue is prevalent on many different pantech phones including the burst model. Other people with the pantech burst have said in comments on Mike's blog that this made their phone boot right up and said that this was EXACTLY the issue. Perhaps the best way to use these pantech phones is to never ever let them fully discharge the battery.

Jelly Bean & Factory Data Reset = Dead Phone

Device:
Droid Razr MAXX HD - Stock Factory Phone - Unrooted, nothing been touched. - VERIZON
What happened:
Updated to JB last week. Was a little too glitchy for my liking so I was going to factory data reset and clear the cache.
Problem 1: Failed Reset
Hit Factory Data Reset, phone starts up green android on screen with twirling blue stuff. Progress bar at bottom. Sits there for hours and nothing ever happens. Pulled SD card to see if that helped and tried again. Nothing.
Problem 2: Can't get into Recovery
I power the phone on and hold vol + & vol -, select recovery then get red moto logo then the same screen from problem 1. I hit Vol - then Vol + to try to get into recovery and it doesn't work. It just says ge 0/0 Formatting /data... Again, nothing.
Problem 3: It's reset, but if you shut the phone off you get problem 1 again.
Power on with vol + & - and I select any other option the phone will boot up and will activate for the first time. Sometimes it will find the network, sometimes the network and battery symbol will have question marks. The problem is, when the phone shuts off or restarts you get problem 1 again. Then if I select any of the options with vol+ & - it resets the whole phone.
Any ideas on how I could fix this other than throwing it on the pavement? All this from a factory data reset on a stock unmolested phone.
Glad to see it's not just me then man. Same problem with my Razr HD. Mine was rooted, but stock apart from that. I had been worried that perhaps it was because I'd been too dumb to remove (or better yet, actually protect) bits and pieces like SuperUser and they were annoying it or something.
Get exactly the same problems as you, haven't yet been able to figure out what's wrong. Called Motorola, erm, no, I'm not able to send my phone in, I kinda need it!
Just a note though with the first part of your problem...

I'll bet you that if you watch really closely, just before the screen goes blank, you'll see the android laying down with the red exclamation above him. At least I do.
Have also experimented with all the boot options, and also tried redoing the reset from the settings menu. No dice.
I'm guessing that because you've got a Maxx, you'll have a totally different service provider too.

I'm guessing that because you've got a Maxx, you'll have a totally different service provider too.

Thanks for the advice but unfortunately I don't have the android with the !. If I did, I would probably be able to get into recovery. Good luck!
Have you tried to fastboot the phone?
You might lose your data, but you've already tried a factory reset. Here's what to do:
1) Download the Motorola USB drivers from here - https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/88481
2) Download RSDLite 6.0 from here - https://hotfile.com/dl/174582400/60ad26d/RSDLite_6.0.rar.html
3) I take it you're on VZW, so download the Jelly Bean fastboot file from here - http://sbf.droid-developers.org/vanquish/VZW_XT926_4.1.1_9.8.1Q_39_VQW_CFC.xml.zip
4) Boot the phone up in fastboot mode - Turn phone off completely, on power on hold VOL+ and VOL- and press power, that should load a menu. Select "AP Fastboot"
5) Plug the phone into the PC and it should detect in RSD Lite, load the file you downloaded and flash the phone
This shouldn't ruin your warranty status, but nothing is official. I've never done this with the newer Motorola HD phones (since I don't have one yet...) but I have done this many times on many different Motorola Devices like RAZR (OG) and Droid 4, and Droid 3, etc. I'm pretty sure it'll work fine for you.
If you have anymore troubles let me know.
Good luck!
This info should be in a sticky, or a FAQ or something, very useful.

Thank you for this info but unfortunately this doesn't work on my phone either. Computer will not recognize the phone. I did everything as suggested. I got to load the file and it fails almost instantly.

That means we need the right drivers. Try downloading the other USB drivers from the Motorola site. Also what OS are you using?

Yes... I'm really not surprised. I have had major driver issues with Android devices on Windows 8.
When you plug in the phone through fastboot mode, can you take a screenshot of your device manager? Try to double click on the device and locate the Motorola fastboot device.

Smart man.... That was the first thing I did was look in device manager and it was a mess while the phone is in fastboot. Computer recognizes the phone fine while it's powered booted up and on. I can get RDLite to find it and try to start and force the file to the phone but the moment it goes into fastboot it fails every time. I got Verizon sending me another phone today.... I appreciate your help on this... I'd buy you a beer if I could! :highfive:

No problem. I'm going to look for ways to fix this Windows 8 driver issue. I've had problems with nexus 7, Galaxy S, Motorola phones, etc...

lg g2 will not boot, not recognized but is showing as QSUSB_BULK

i have an lg g2 vs980 and i rooted it but have not yet installed a recovery like twrp it is only the very basic root with super user. it decided to install some ota update and now it will not boot past lg screen, white letters flash really fast all i could make out was secure boot error or something. i cannot get it into any kind of download or reset mode, iv tried absolutely everything anyone on this forum has recommended or suggested and nothing works, also when i connect it to my pc running windows 8 it is seen as QSUSB_BULK i have installed the correct updated drivers for my phone and iv manually installed them, nothing i have done will allow my pc to see my phone correctly. when i plug it in it under computer there are local drives f-u that pop up and say i have to format them in order to use them, but they are write protected so i cannot view whats in them, format them or anything. does anyone out there have any kind of suggestion to fix this or am i just completely stupid and missing some big major step? i am also very new to android this is my first android phone lol im a converted apple user haha so the more indept detailed instructions would be greatly appreciated

Has anyone come up with a solution to this? I am very new to Android, I have Rooted my G2 so I could install Custom Rom's. Yesterday I receive a OTA update, I refused it and then later when it came up again was going to refuse it, but my shaky finger touched the screen and started the update! next thing I know I have a $600.00 brick. if you hold the power button down It will flash the LG logo and then NADA, screen is lit but nothing happens. Hold the power button and after a few it will Flash the logo again but NADA again. If you hold the down and power button it will go to the reset screen, but again this will not reset the device. PLEASE HELP!
Thank you.

I completely wiped my phone's hard drive; help?

I messed up and now I can't get my Lg G6 US99715 to work.
First, I messed up by accidentally using twrp to uninstall the OS while I was trying to do a system update (I wasn't the one who put TWRP on my phone, it was a hand-me-down). Next I screwed up further by removing twrp from the phone using my PC. At this point things were looking pretty bad but I figured that, since I can open it up and see the empty storage, maybe I could reinstall everything and start from scratch. While in the process of trying to do that I somehow ended up in a boot loop. I've tried holding down the power + vol up + vol down but that only results in the boot loop starting over. I've tried every combination of buttons held and released at every step of the boot loop and nothing seems to change. I can't even get the phone to turn off. Since my pc no longer recognized when the phone is plugged in, I feel like I'm pretty much out of options.
I know this is kind of a long shot but do any of you have any suggestions on how I might fix this? I really don't think I can afford a new phone right now so I'm kind of desperate to fix this somehow.
Thanks in advance.

Don't quote me on anything because I may be completely wrong. Try re downloading samsung USB drivers. I know that when I root my devices using TWRP, a brand new installation of the OS is installed. It might be worth searching tutorials regarding how to install android via TWRP. You could also visit sammobile.com and download the android files for your phone and then use ODIN to transfer those files to your phone.
