I ahve posted a couple of times on here asking how I can update Opera Mobile on my Touch Pro to the latest version and the responses I got were a bit confusing.
Please can someone give me simple step by step instructions how how to upgrade Opera Mobile to the latest version and give me a link to someone that has the correct and working update files so when I new version comes out I can easily upgrade without posting on here asking where the upgrade files are.
Also, how do you set Opera mobile to be the default browser as some programs still open links in PIE which is not what I want.

Go to opera.com. Download the latest version. Install the cab. Use the search function next time.
well theres plenty of options. 9.5 is still considered beta. and theres a new build of it like every day. do a search and you can find the cab and just install it. newest versions are builds 15000 and up. they work well. ^_^
Yes, I know about the cab but that just installs a new copy and does not overwrite the current one.
Please tell me a simple way to overwrite the one on the stock rom with a newer version and I did search but did not find anything helpful too me
I also do not wish to change roms as my one is working fine so please do not suggest it

no its not. it has all the features of the older builds and more.
So how do you update like I asked above?
- Find the CAB with the version you want
- Use a task manager (like Advanced Task Manager) to kill the Opera processes (OperaL and OperaPre) if they are running

- Run the install CAB like normal. It will ask to remove the previous version, then say it could not be removed. Continue, and you will finish with a "Installation unsuccessful" message. Just ignore it, Opera will be installed just fine. Open Opera and go to opera:about to confirm the version.
If you are doing a major update, you need to install from a CAB. If you are doing a minor update (eg: not from 19xx to 2xxx, or from 2xxx to 15xxx builds), you can just overwrite the Opera9.exe and OperaL.exe files, so that your preferences aren't overwritten/reset.
And please try searching -- this information has been posted dozens of times, and is posted again and again every time Opera gets updated in the Development & Hacking section.

Latest versions include all the features. However, some CABs overwrite the skin files and reset Opera settings, which may disable some features. You can always re-enable the features by editing opera:config, but some users have mistakenly assumed that the latest versions have removed certain things (zoom slide bar, auto-rotate, etc).

Fair warning : This 2.3 gingerbread update doesn't improve performance much, it looks better than android 2.2 but people report different bugs that I didn't experience myself.
A bug I am experiencing with it is that its bluetooth and wifi are going crazy, not detecting devices like they used to do on android 2.2. be warned if you use this tablet with your car's bluetooth, it probably will stop connecting to it after the 2.3 update.
IMPORTANT MESSAGE : if anyone just bought this tablet and still has android 2.2 on it, please be cool and catch an image of it to share with us who updated to the buggy firmware. MSI customer support sucks, they don't keep old firmware on their website!

You should end up with a .img file that you can reinstall later if you find out the update is buggy for you.

The normal skype you download from android play (market) doesn't work on this tablet, you need to use the one bundled with its original firmware. if you updated skype and it's not working, you can easily revert the update and go back to the original installation by going to the applications management page and click on "unistall updates".
is your tab on android 2.2 or did it come with 2.3 preinstalled?
I'd really appreciate your help if you can share the img with us.
Btw, if you must root the tab, don't do the root img available on a thread in this forum, it will install a new version of the firmware with the bug I'm trying to avoid. Note 1 - Use in Canada. You can use Hulu Plus outside of the USA by using an unblocking service such as Trickbyte or AdFreeTime or UnblockUS. You can also sign up with a Canadian credit card by using this billing address trick.
Note 2 - Ad Blocking Whitelist. Some ad blockers may stop hulu plus from working on rooted devices. Please see the post Using AdAway with Hulu Plus for information on what you need to whitelist to make it work.
Note 3 - No video on playback, Audio only (HDMI). Install v2.14 or older to resolve this issue. As of 2.15, Hulu is blocking HDMI output on some devices. Some devices include the MiniX Neo X8, X8-H, X7, etc.
Note 4 - Video does not start, shows "Buffer". Install v2.12 or newer to resolve this issue. Some releases (v2.8 to v2.11) do not stream correctly on some devices (rooted or custom ROM). Make sure it's not an ad blocking issue as mentioned above first. This issue was resolved as of the v2.12 release.
Note 5 - Modified APK. The APK's here are the official releases straight from the play store. If the official version does not work on your device (unsupported), you may need to use a modified version of the apk until they officially support your device. As of Dec 24 2012, the OP of the modified apk has not released an up-to-date version of his mod.
Note 6 - An easy way to get a USA credit card as a Canadian is through RBC BANK, the US extension of the Royal Bank.

I got this version today from Google Play. It let me download it but then said my device is not compatible, You can try it. If anyone can give advice on modding to remove device checking or can mod it I'd be grateful. I've looked through some of the smali files but don't really know what to look for or what to try changing. Thanks. Can't post links so modified. The normal course of events for the 701, have been the OTA from ICS to JB.
Currently, an official OTA Minor update to JB has not been released by Acer as far as I know.
However, there are "unofficial" update files on Acer's servers. These require installation via Stock recovery.
You can use the following PC application to see if there's an unofficial update for your specific build. I've attached it to this post.
Connect tab to PC (usb debugging on).
Start Application
Select Tablet (you should see current build)
Download if available.
Note, this downloads to your PC

Yes there was gmail was the only updated app from the first l preview build to work on on all older versions of android that it would install on without crashing
But that build is not new anymore but at the time it was. The version was 4.8.1 and the newest build on google play at the time was version 4.8.
