[Q] Android 3.1 update? - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Any word on Android 3.1? I see where it's out for Verizon Xooms and WiFi Xooms. Any reports on it? Any date for arrival on the Transformer?

Rumor is mid-June.

Not be rude, but there are several threads on this. Search?
And someone mentioned June but I don't remember their source.

Asus Germany on FB

ASUS Sweden posted this pic on their facebook.

Doesn't say anything about when its going to be released though =/

Translating the facebook comments, 3.1 is coming, but they're not sure about Ice Cream Sandwich.
On another forum I was browsing, a Swedish Asus person said they've had 3.1 and are working on it.. But they said summertime release... If the translation was correct.

thisismynext says they've been promised "early June" by Asus (review itself says June, the Q&A specifies "early")

You know, given how Asus has pretty much crammed everything into the TF and made it work (microSD, full-size USB ports on the dock, SD card on the dock, etc.), as well as the Asus-specific apps (including DLNA support), I'm pretty confident that they'll get 3.1 out the door as quickly as humanly possible and ICS as well.
They seem very aggressive about making this stuff work, possibly because of their experience in making high-performance motherboards and such. It's probably in their DNA to get into the guts of things, which is one of the things I like about the company.

ASUS HK official told us that upgrade for 3.1 starting from June .
not sure it is global or wt though...

A picture worth a 1000 words, definately gonna keep it!

Ice Cream Sandwich will be OPEN SOURCE (Google confirmed this) so we'll definitely see it on Asus Transformer one way or another

A few things I found...

Decided to take a crack (lol pun intended ) at a couple of things the other night, and stumbled across something interesting - HTC's internal bidding system.
And what I've found are parts that they are buying for whatever models of phones they're working on/thinking about working on. I saw parts for an HTC Touch Pro from 2005, parts from the HTC Magic from 2006, etc.. Well, I found parts, as of the other day, for the 'HTC Incredible', so, they must be working on it.
Also, I found reference to xda-developers.com inside of an actual bidding-slip for reference to the models that they had listed - I thought that was pretty damn cool.
I've highlighted different model names and such, and the reasoning I pointed out the Bahamas and the Memphis are so you can see that the models are not always only listed on the right-side of the screen, too.
Here are some screenshots for you all:

Wow, nice one! This could be really useful for us here at XDA.

Just wanted to bring this thread back up, because now the HTC Incredible is official, and is being released on Verizon.
I wonder what phones I could find info. on if I were to look now?
Just found some more models to wonder about.

We're here live at Google I/O, and the folks from Mountain View have just shared something rather sweet -- a coalition of manufacturers and carriers committed to making sure their Android devices receive the very latest updates. All four major US carriers (and Vodafone) as well as HTC, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, LG and Motorola are on board, and all will guarantee you timely upgrades to the latest version of Android for eighteen months after release, provided the hardware's capable. Now that's change we can believe in.

Good news?
Also Honeycomb 3.1
http://www.gsmarena.com/events_roun...okia_and_microsoft_later_in_may-news-2629.php
great news. had this program been in place a year ago there wouldn't be so many bad attitudes in the vibrant forum -_-
What does "timely" mean? And does this represent a change from what they were previously doing? My impression is that most/all of these companies would say that they already roll out updates in a "timely" fashion, regardless of what we impatient users think, and that this is just a commitment not to stop doing that.
lol we'll see. i'll believe it when it happens, but my fingers are crossed cuz that'd be awesome!
don't hold your breath.
I think an actual number should be set in place like 3 months after initial release of the newest version of android? Im not sure if thats reasonable or not but the galaxy S series didnt even start getting 2.2 updates until 2.3 was released. Thats just plain wrong haha.
Google announcement bad news for G2X
This is typical Google BS - saying one thing and getting everyone ready for that, and then turning everything upside down with a different "plan".
2.4 was supposed to be a functional update for 2.3 the optimize it for dual core performance. If you search "android 2.4" - you will still see most links stating just that.
Now, from the above announcement link, it is supposed to be the end-all OS for all devices. Don't expect to see that any time soon now. The "original" 2.4 was supposed to be coming out soon, and I was looking forward to a port or possibly even an G2X/O2X update.
I am annoyed enough with Google that I suggest that take their "Ice Cream Sandwich" and stick it both up where the sun does not shine and where it will melt!
I want a duel core OS and I want it now, as per their earlier alleged plan - it was due out in April.
Bull****. We won't be seeing 2.3 anytime soon.

[Q] Revolver / Prime / root my new Asus TF?

I have a new Asus TF with this information

Can I use Revolver or Prime?
And can I root? If not root, when I would iy be possible to root?
And would it be easiere to root/change rom? Easy as change it like with Samsung Galaxy S2(with Odin or CWM)?
Wrong language in picture, change it.
Post in the right subforum for a beginning
What is the serial number on your TF? It will start with a B. Also - I'm confused - the post aside, why would this not belong in the Q/A subforum? I just want to be clear. Generally I get when posts don't belong somewhere, but isn't this usually where this sort of thing goes?
Well NOW it is, but it first was in the DEV section. thanks moderator
Ok, thanks for right section
But where to find serial number then?
I now it was on the box, and it started on B8 and something, but I don`t remember rest off if.
And I have trash the box
Again thanks
It's on the bottom near the opening for the power plug
if it's b8, then no. there's no root method for you atm. (and therefore, no custom roms also)
also, take it from me, do not lose your box/serial number, you'll need it when you want to RMA your device. i need to do the battery fix for my dock, but i no longer have it...so i'm a bit SOL
you can also register your device at asus, that might be a nicer alternative.
there's also a sticker somewhere in your device that should have the serial number.

I will register my Asus TF @ Asus`s web.
Again thanks everybody

What tablet?

I have been looking for a tablet but i seem to be a bit confused with whats going on with the android software. Every tablet i have looked at doesnt seem to have the traditional android features and settings most have a whole different play store called either getjar or applib etc the salesman said that i needed to get a tablet with honeycomb 3.0 as this still has the back door access for rooting is this true. What decent tablets are about for around £150 doesnt matter if is second hand just looking for something with Bluetooth wifi and usb host which to my knowledge is available with android 3.0. Ive looked at the archos g3 and g9 but they have android 4.0 and root access is blocked also doesnt have half the functions also looked at the viewsonic viewpad 7 but thats stuck on android 2.2
Any suggestions or advice on anything ive mentioned would really be great.

1) PLEASE use punctuation.
2) Almost any name-brand tablet that runs 4.0.x (ICS) or 4.1.x (JB) can be rooted. If it uses "getjar" or something it's running Java but probably not Android, any Android tablet should have "Play Store" which actually has nothing to do with rooting or not.
If you have that much money to spend I suggest you look into getting an HP TouchPad (if you don't need a front facing camera) or an Acer or a transformer.
The archos i looked at in store today said it had android 4 ics but the salesman said it wasnt the proper android software and i would be better off using one with honeycomb 3.2 but i will have a look at the suggested models online now

I would like to change the ROM of this tablet, but it... doesn't help me...

Hello, good morning, good afternoon, good night everyone. I'm new to this site and honestly I'm a little sad and a little desperate. Two days ago, this tablet that I bought arrived: https://www.ebay.com/itm/164952253163?var=464487247387
He arrived with the box torn (maybe it's because of customs here in Brazil that decided to open the box to tax me. I paid around $62 fee, to receive the item.) I came across a tablet with a somewhat performance different than expected. Unfortunately, some settings shown in the ad didn't turn out to be true and this impacted the performance I expected from my device. I knew it wasn't a tablet from Samsung or Asus or another famous company, but I was disappointed because of the seller's lack of honesty with the actual settings of the tablet. Without going too far, I wanted to change the ROM of this device, it comes with these settings here: http://specdevice.com/showspec.php?id=3b14-d459-34a4-d06c0033c587
But, as it's not as specific as a Galaxy Tab A7 or other, I couldn't find a ROM to install on it. Could you help me in this regard? It looks like some CUSTOM ROMS are universal, working on any device that has the mt6592 but I'm afraid to mess up. I would just like to use a system a little more fluid for my device

You obviously got cheated, hence why not return tablet to ebay and request refund of purchase price?

I already thought about it. I will open a dispute about the item, but if I end up keeping it (since on some platforms, even if I get a refund, I still get the item) I would like to know if I can make this kind of ROM modification, for, for me, I believe, it will be more advantageous than doing the return process. What do you think?
