They finally released Netflix for android..but its only for the g2, nexus one and s, evo, and a couple other phones. I just sold my g2 so I'm a bit jealous. Is it possible somebody can hack the apk?

Here is the apk compliments of the EVO 4g forum.
The app installs and you can log in to your Netflix account, but you cannot play videos, it tells you your device is not supported. If possible we will need to remove the device check.
Doesn't work for me. Just flashes and crashes.
Damn. Just saw the news story about this. I was hoping to come over here and find an APk that worked. Oh well... soon I hope.
I read elsewhere on this forum it has to do with netflix only wanting it on the ARM processors. we may not ever see it on a tegra2 device which is a shame because id use that alot
I wonder if this is any different than the older version i have
I know streaming doesnt work but i wonder if any other changes were made

My mistake that may be the case but the thread i found the APK pointed out it was specific to caertain phones and processors like from HTC
HTC and Samsung Nexus S according to the list of Netflix enable android devices on the Netflix site.
I tried the .apk on my G2x running stock 2.2. It immediately closes unfortunately.
This was already discussed in the G2x forum a few weeks ago because I posted the APK.... The app is only compatible with Qualcomm chipsets.
Has anyone tried on CM7? They use a different kernel so it may fool the app into working.
I do think it is funny though because originally they said Netflix wasn't coming to the Qualcomm sets because they didn't support DRM or something on a hardware level and looked forward to the Tegra 2 chipsets for their main chipset.
Now the Tegra 2 chipset is out they are all of a sudden saying "Oh we're going to support the Qualcomm chips".
In all honesty it is just them being picky and not allowing streaming. If they wanted to be simple they could just open up their website to allow streaming via Flash.
I got streaming working. Download the attached apk. Backup your build-prop. and edit a new one with these changes:
Code:
ro.product.model=HTC Vision
ro.product.brand=tmobile
ro.product.name=vision
ro.product.device=vision
ro.product.board=vision
ro.product.manufacturer=HTC
ro.build.fingerprint=tmobile/htc_vision/vision/vision:2.2/FRF91/277427:user/release-keys
This info was taken from another forum member, don't remember who it was.

CONFIRMED... This does work, it breaks swype though. Probably because our swype looks at the build.prop as well. Ill assume it breaks other things as well... BUT IT WORKS GREAT ON 3G! You have to reboot after editing build.prop, then install the apk. Running cm7 nighly 15

Can't see that happening with Captivate's processor, despite the fact that they are used in other handsets; we don't seem to have the wherewithal to satisfy Netfix's DRM scheme.
I would love it if someone would post a link to the .apk to be able to 'test' compatibility...
Just go to the web market, it's there.

However now all the apps think I'm on a G2. And swype won't work.
Could someone that's on a 2.3 Samsung rom with netflix working post their build.prop file?

It seems that GB roms running as a nexus s in the build.prop can access playback. Anybody got a quick way to edit that file and directions on what to change for people with cyanogenmod?
EDIT: Doh, I'm an idiot. I should read the full thread before commenting. Thanks guys.

My guess is that it is because CM lacks all of the codecs which you get with the official samsung roms.

I believe wifi tabs have different hardware then 3g ones. Build prop could be one fix but I think there might be a hardware check or something that is preventing video for some.

SO i take it, Netflix only works on GSM overcome Roms...Sprint tab rooted with original Rom does not work. The screen just disappears when you log in. SMH at Google. To many software/hardware versions for any company to make a app right.
i ment in like australia..
Works fine with the new Gingerbread ROM on Tmo US.
another +1 on overcome 2.0 (2.3.3) i havnt had much time to test but it loads and plays. ill see in the next couple days how it works without wifi. at home it seems to be all well.
comming from technomancer's cm7 port overcome is MUCH MUCH smoother, cleaner, faster and has none of the issues i used to have with cm...but thats what you get with ports that arent updated regularly. the older overcome worked well, but i chose cm7 because of the settings and such, and back a couple months ago there wasnt THAT big of a diff (and cm is whats on my g2...so i thought id prefer it) now after using the latest 2.0 i cant believe how well this tab functions now.
so, netflix made me switch roms, and it works!!...but i got a bonus surprise with how well overcome really is.
very good day for my tablet!
Works perfectly on my us tmobile tab with overcome beta 1 and 2.3.3! Picture quality is very crisp. Streams with no lag
Works so well that I was on the phone with netflix yesterday and was telling the guy on the phone about it, info on 2.3.3.

Is there such a thing as a resource monitor for Android? I ask this, because my room mate has the Captivate, and it works fine. Always. Maybe witha monitor of some sort, we could see what resources are being used on the Captivate -vs- the Inspire and kinda compare from there?
Obviously these are two different phones, but the general concept of functionality should not be too far off.

The room mate and I are gonna try to crack this case tonight! The plan is very stupid, but whatever. haha.
The basic principle of functionality should be equal clean across the board. It has to be the lack of a file or files that is preventing this. The hardware itself is VERY capable of working. This leads use to our conclusion...
I already had drmprovider.apk in my system folder, but did not have drmua.apk.
Tried adding this file and no dice.
Basically, if I already have the file, it will remain untouched. Anything else will be merged in, until it either works, or crashes the phone. I DO NOT SUGGEST OTHERS TRY THIS. I personally don't care, because I have insurance, under warranty, etc.
If we make any progress I will keep you all informed. And well...If I brick my phone, then I'll see you all in a few days. haha
I remember how much trouble it was to get the LG Camera to work on gingerbread. Also, I read that the CM ICS Rom still doesn't the camera working yet on it nor does the one being developed by our fellow XDA members.
I am just being curious, is there something about LG hardware or perhaps Nvidia's tegra 2 that makes it difficult to get a fully functional camera working?

EDIT:
SSH'd in to it, downloading everything now! Should have a build by the end of the night.
Nice. Let me know if you get any errors...

Had some interesting fun with the packages on Oneiric. Turns out lib32readline5-dev no longer exists in the repositories. I managed to find the lib32readline5 package, will that suffice, or should I remove that package and manually install the -dev one? Found a .deb for it after I had already started the repo sync.
you should be fine without it...as long as you have ubuntu 64bit (Oneric).
If you get any build errors (like I did), let me know because there is a fix for it...
Also, please try out the HAL camera as I said in my first post before you compile the rom.
THanks!
Hi there guys, Great to see that work is still being done on such an old phone, though its old, im stuck with it so a fresh look can be nice once in a while , Ill be keeping a keen eye on the updates , i tried the rom for myself and am impressed, not too far away from making this a RC imo, oh and, if anyone is keen, is anyone able to look into making the earpiece volume for incalls a little louder? I wasnt able to test it myself because no calls were going through, only texts , but if its anything like the original htc sence rims or the CM6-7.x 's they are a tad quiet and would do with some modding anyways thats just my 2 cents, Happy Modding!
Oh and i tried the camera "patch" I think, it didnt seam to fix it for me, though all i did is unpacked the files placed the renamed fixed camera .SO file into the correct location, then repacked the lot before flashing, I dont know if i was supposed to delete the other camera file that was there??
