Pocket Controller Pro Working on Ubuntu via Wine - General Topics

I've been using Ubuntu on my netbook, dual-booting with Windows 7. One thing that's keeping me from using solely Ubuntu is the need to connect my Windows Mobile Device and controlling it on my netbook.
After much reading (I don't think anyone else want this on their Ubuntu as I haven't found any resource on how to do it), I was able to make Pocket Controller Pro to work under Wine on my netbook with Ubuntu 10.10.

Now, I can control, browse files and edit registry under the Ubuntu environment, among other things Pocket Controller Pro has to offer like screenshots etc.
For those interested, here are the steps I did:
For PPC:
1) Install SynCE on Ubuntu.
2) Install Wine on Ubuntu.
3) Install Pocket Controller Pro on Ubuntu.
4) Setup device to Accept Inbound Connection, and Allow Connection Over Wireless. Activesync doesn't work on Wine at the moment.
5) Make sure under Settings>Connections>USB to PC, Activesync and Enable Faster Data Connection are checked
6) Connect device to Netbook, Run Pocket Controller Pro.
7) Take note of the IP Address used by the device. Go to Settings>Pocket Controller>Status.
8) In Pocket Controller Pro Settings, make a New Profile under Connection Profiles.
9) Choose Connection Type TCP/IP. Under Host Name/IP Address, enter the IP Address used by your device (Step 7). Click OK.
10) On Pocket Controller Pro Main Windows, CLick connect and choose the Connection Profile you just have created.
NOTES:
a) Pocket Controller was previously installed on the device under Windows.
b) If you're using Ubuntu, I'm pretty sure you know where to look for SynCE and Wine.
c) You may have to reboot your netbook if your mobile device is not detected the first time.
For Smartphones (WM Standard), additional steps I did:

Windows 7: -Uninstall Hotsync Driver fails + Can you get Hotsync working in W7

I'm floundering here, so if mods feel this belongs in the Android subforum (is there one? I'm using a Dream specifically, but I'm sure this could be applicable to the Magic just as much), go right ahead please.
I am using windows 7. I just love it. HTC Hotsync installs fine, but the Vista 32bit driver installed 'incorrectly'. Any attempt now to uninstall it fails, so I'm stuck.

That's the weird error I get when the uninstall fails. BTW., I've tried uninstalling both from the Driver menu itself in start, as well as from add/remove from the control panel.
Also see this window. Not sure if I can use this even?
I have tried to reinstall/re-run the driver install file, but it won't work. I've tried restarting, uninstalling...but it doesn't help.
Can someone suggest how I can 'hard' or 'force' uninstall this driver? or whatever is left of it?
I have run this Hotsync in XP fine, so I know what I'm doing...it's just in W7 that I must've mucked up the nuances of run driver>THEN plug in phone, or vice versa., or I might've enabled hotsync on the phone, when I didn't need to and that mucked it up lol.
This is the HTC link for the Hotsync and such. I followed the instructions for Vista installation. I've also tried the 'run as administrator', but again, not being able to uninstall the first failed driver installation is kind of hindering any decent 2nd "Go' at it.
Can someone confirm if Android does not sync via WWMD at all? We must use Hotsync? btw., WHY...don't they have Hotsync available in a clear link from the main page-as opposed to buried deep in HTC Asia's Magic menu??
Update:
I tried it on my lenovo...W7. Same result. No connection., no proper initialization.
I ran it as administrator.
I ran it under vista sp3 compatibility mode...NADDA.
The usb driver registers fine, but 'Android Phone' driver is 'not found' .
I got a useless allbeit PROMPT reply form letter from HTC today not helping me whatsoever . "We do not support W7"...gee, what a surprise lol.
No luck with W7 so far.
My CPU doesn't support virtualization which was a possible solution somebody on hofo mentioned.
Looks like there's no hope for now.

[App] WellFTP - Easy wireless PC connection [App]

Well FTP app (free fom the play store)
Ever had a data cable connection fail on you?
Had to fork out for a repair.... Nope.... me neither.
That's because I use an awesome app from the play store to
transfer files between PC/mac and phone via my router.
I know as an avid flasher that constant plugging and unplugging takes its toll
on the microUSB port on the phone which you cant ignore.
After all, its the only way to charge.
You need 2 free components and your router to get this working and
after 2 mins setting it up, it takes seconds to use.
You need WellFTP app available free from the Google Play store.
You also need a File Transfer Protocol (FTP) program.
A popular, easy to use and even better, Freeware FTP is Filezilla.
Install the downloaded filezilla.exe ready to use on your pc/mac.
Assuming you have the WellFTP app on your phone and Filezilla
installed on your pc with a wireless connection via your router:
(1) Activate the app on your phone. It should show the following:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
(2) Run the Filezilla program on your PC/mac. At the very top left click File>Site Manager
(3) Click New Site and name the device (mine is HTC One X):
(4) Now enter the ftp server address from your phone screen (eg 192.###.1.76) into the General tab, Host box.
Then type the port number (thats the last 4 digits on the app server address, in my example its 2121) into the Port box.
Press OK.
(5) Select the Site Manager button (directly below the File button) on the Filezilla program.
On the dropdown select your device.
(6) This should activate the server and connect to your phone.
A list of the sd card contents will appear in the listbox on the
right side of the screen and your pc files will show on the left.
(7) You are now connected and can either drag and drop files to/from the phone
contents using the browser windows or straight from your desktop. You will see
the transfer details in the bottom window with eta's etc.
Next time you want to connect your phone via the wifi connection, activate the WellFTP app
on the phone and the filezilla program on your PC.
Select the device from the server dropdown as per setup and it will quickly show the phone files.
Drag and drop till your hearts content.
This isnt new.... its not ground breaking but if it means our phones last a bit longer and
we don't need to return to stock for un-nescessary warranty work its well worth using.
I use this daily for web design etc and so far have had no issues whatsoever.
I am not however responsible if something happens to your phone, your pc or whatever.
Use this software/app at your own risk.
mine!
look well.

[Q] VNC server for the OPO?

Hi,
Has someone got some kind of VNC server to work on the OPO?
I have tried a lot of apps, the best result that I got was this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
The connection is working, though: I can interact with the screen, but that's what it looks like...
What I'm actually looking for is a way to stream the screen of my OPO to my tablet or to my PC, since that'd be a great way to see what's on the screen when I use my phone to record videos on a tripod, for example. To be clear, I'd like to get the same result that Adam Outler has in this video (minute 9:15), using my tablet instead of his M8 and the OPO instead of the Galaxy NX.
The problem seems to be the server on the OnePlus One, since it almost works the other way around (the OPO, as client, can connect to the tablet, used as server, even though the screen is upside down and I can't see what's in the camera). Connections from the Android devices to the PC work fine. The results that I got while trying to connect to the OPO are consistent between my PC (running ArchLinux with KDE, so I'm using the KDE desktop sharing applications) and my tablet (with VNC viewer).
The apps that I've tried to get a server going are:
- droid VNC Server
- VNC server by Onecent (Adam Outler's choice)
- VMLite VNC server (this one was reported to be working by some swedish user on some swedish site, but I got to the same result as the other two: the screenshot above)
- Reverse VNC Server
I got to the same results with the first three ones (connection established, commands work, but no screen), while I had more issues with the last one, but that could've very well been my fault, since I don't quite get how it's supposed to work.
Thanks for the help!
PS: Probably irrelevant, but my setups are:
- OPO running the latest PA with Franco Kernel
- Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 with custom ROM based on stock Android 4.4.2 & TW
- PC with ArchLinux and KDE applications, both as server and client, they seem to work (at least the client) when trying to connect between PC's
PPS: My wifi and my internet connection both suck, if that can be relevant to something else besides the latency between client and server, which doesn't worry me too much.
Edit: Alternative for viewing the screen remotely from a PC: https://code.google.com/p/androidscreencast/
Not very usable, I don't know if it's better than nothing...

Ubuntu Touch on Google Nexus 4, 5, 6 using windows 10 installer

It doesn't work and doesn't install. Installing a new operating system into anything is not rocket science for technicians, either the software is being 'sabotaged' from not working in the windows platform because i couldn't even able to install the installer.
these graphical interface to communicate no need as just complicates thing and makes it buggy. command line is all you need for installing or loading files. either the drivers work or not. that is the problem. so at this moment the installer is BETA..so issues and may not work as they say it does. the software is in BETA. doesn't work.
this like 'sabotage' of the software. so it doesn't install. or doesn't work. in windows 10. android and ubuntu is competition right.
these nexus models were designed to work so and easy to unlock. unlike some phones that are locked and owners of the hardware cannot unlock oem bootloader. Now windows 10 fails to communicate with android and not installing certain files. In the 80's compatibility was a big issue and many programs were designed to work in only some platforms. and not easily portable. and windows 10 is not open source so third party software developers are not able to make software and test it on windows 10 and windows 10 or android google store can change their update and make many applications 'obsolete' and not workable due to changes in the operating system. The OS is like main director/gatekeeper/ traffic coordinator etc. regulator of the system. if the operating is blocking certain programs from communicating. or hardware has a block on it..there is nothing a user can do. if doesn't work,,no point trying to make it work. wasting people time saying the installer works. the installer is just bunch command lines. with graphical icons and images and buttons.
The mentioned

runs well on Windows computers - see screenshot above.
It depends neither on Windows version ( it's a 32-bit executable ) nor on Windows edition.
When launching it at Windows 10 you get informed that this software is suspicous, that it may harm your Windows OS: this because it's not listed in Microsoft's database.
You also get noticed that ADB must got installed and systemwide accessible prior to use it.
So what's your real problem? I can't see one.

No USB Mass Storage (MSC) mode in Android 10??

connecting phone to pc via PTP/MTP or "file transfer" suck because you can't browse full photos without downloading them to local drive first for example.
USB Mass Storage mode doesn't have this deficiency, is there easy way to get it back?
device?

it also happens on other android devices!
You can't bring back

Modern Android devices use different USB connection protocols, for example MTP what acts a lot like USB mass storage. This because the Android file system had to be accessible from Windows device, it had to be formatted with the FAT file system. Not only does Microsoft have patents it exerts on FAT, FAT is also an older, slower file system without a modern permission system.
An MTP device shows up in Windows Explorer so you can browse and transfer files.
For wireless file transfers, a good choice is AirDroid. It allows you to connect to your Android device over Wi-Fi with just a web browser, moving files back and forth without the necessity of a cable. It will likely be a bit slower, but it can be a life-saver if you’re out and about and didn’t bring the appropriate USB cable. For transferring files from Android to your PC, Portal is also a quick and easy solution.
thanks, I've actually found some ad-free apps on https://playsearch.kaki87.net/

I suggest using x-plore and using the same network to transfer/view files. Have been using it's wifi share function since 2014 or something.
