[Q] any way to text mssg from the tablet? - Eee Pad Transformer Themes and Apps

Any apps out there to txt message from the tablet? Preferably with my actual number (not sure how that would work though).

There was a guy on the Xoom subforum that made an app that uses Dropbox (iirc) to 'sync' text messages.
You could use Google Voice, but then all of the messages are sent from and to your GV number.
I hope someone comes up with a way to easily sync between an Android phone's SMS client and an application on a tablet, so you can use the tablet to easily interact with SMS and MMS messaging.

Now i am guessing you need a droid powered smart phone? Will my samung rogue be able to do this or does it just ue the phone number?

it needs to be droid to droid.
works awesome.

Textfree is the best texting app out there that gives u a real texting number. U cannot find it in the app store *also* the newest version constantly crashes on the tablet. Here's a link to a working version of textfree
http://www.hotfilesearch.com/download/56035720-Textfree.apk.html
Let me know how it works out for u

Just use Google Voice app with real notifications.

market won't let me install google voice on the TF

[Q] Is there a "free texting" app for Infuse (Android in general)?

Currently have an iPhone 4 and am waiting for my new Infuse to arrive. The iPhone had an app (that when jailbroken) allows you to use your Google Voice phone number for BOTH incoming and outgoing texting at no charge using data. The app even integrates with the native SMS app on the iPhone and works flawlessly.
I have been looking for a similar Android app and can't find one. Anyone know of such an app that allows FREE in and outbound texting using data?
To me the $10/month is a waste for a texting plan when I maybe will do 10-20 texts/month and AT&T's "pay per text" rate is a total ripoff.
U should be trying out "Google Voice" first. This does exactly what u r looking for.
I thought Google Voice on Android only allows free INCOMING texts and all outbound were still charged as "normal" texts either to a plan or at AT&T pricing?
If not, I was misinformed and am glad to hear that.
Google Voice in Android is much more integrated and you should be able to do the same with your Infuse (as you did with your iPhone), seamlessly and without the need for jailbreak/root and no extra charge

Close, but I don't want yet another phone number.
I'm looking for a Google Voice solution and I am being told that (strangely enough) the Google Voice app should work although I am still a bit skeptical about that because everything I have read says it's only for incoming text and outgoing text through G.V. is charged at regular text rates.
I'll have to wait until my INFUSE shows up then I will find out for sure. All I have now is a Samsung 10.1 Android tablet which won't let me download G.V. so I can't even try.
I would like to know as well if GV outgoing is free. I dont text much but my wife does quite a bit.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
Outbound and incoming texts through a Google Voice number is completely free. I've already sent a hundred or so texts without incurring charges through Voice.
you can't get MMS though right?? is there a work around for that??

So far, none.
Well, finally got my Infuse and loaded up my Google Account and as others said I do indeed get 2-way free texting.
The only thing I don't like is that it is not integrated into the "stock" messaging app. I have to keep a GV widget on the home screen. As I mentioned in my OP there was an iPhone app that fully integrated GV into the iPhone messaging app complete with pop-up notifications which was very nice. I'm surprised that doesn't exist for Android since Google and Android are so closely related.
You can forward GV texts to email or even to your carriers text messaging but of course it then becomes a chargeable text.

Obviously I am NOT using the stock messaging APP because it doesn't work with Google Voice. So what messaging app are you using with GOOGLE VOICE MESSAGING?

I use GV for all my texting needs. So no need for native messaging app. And for occasional/stray texts that need to come to my phone, I use GoSMS.

SMS2Gmail App Great if you forget your phone

Application that forwards your sms messages and phone log to Gmail. It can even be activated remotely. I thought this is a cool app anyone who has ever forgotten their phone. Works flawlessly on my Skyrocket.

I use MightyText, it has a chrome addon that displays your SMS and lets you reply.
Mighty Text doesn't send all the calls made to your phone to Gmail does it?

Thanks for sharing. Seems like a pretty cool idea.
Has SMS2Gmail app been pulled?
Can't seem to find SMS2Gmail...has it been pulled? Anyone have the apk? Thanks
I just use Go SMS Pro. you can backup all your sms/mms messages to your sd card as well as send them to your gmail.
I like Clockwork's DeskSMS. Can text from my tablet, computer and phone.
Yeah DeskSMS seems to be one of the best that doesn't have issues with a $5 per year cost. It's super annoying because MightyText is a free solution but it doesn't sync everything properly, very annoying!

[Q] Google Voice Full Integration

Can someone try this app out?
Google Voice Full Integration (sorry I can't post the link to market since I don't have enough post)
it needs root.
basically, it let you the native messaging app, or GoSMS for google voice. When you send a text message from the native app, it will ask whether you want to send via GV or native app. If you set GV to be default, you can forget about the official GV app and just use native app or GoSMS.
I have been looking for an app like this for a while.
But unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work with this phone.
I have been talking with the developer through email but still no luck.
When another phone sends a message to my GV number, I receive it using the native app. But when I send a message from the native app, the other phone gets it with my phone number (it should be GV number).
So it looks like it's only 1 way for me.
So Can someone test it out? The developer will refund you if it doesn't work. just email him. He gives very great support.
btw, I'm still using the Froyo stock app. But it may be the phone since it was tested to work with Froyo.
Thank you for reading
I'm using this on an HTC HD2, so I can't say anything about your phone. For mine, however, it works both ways and I have texting blocked through my carrier so there's no way a regular text can get through. I don't get any notifications though.

Only via some sort of software-based SMS bridge. The device itself has no phone # associated with it and thus can't interface directly with the US phone system. I prefer and reccomend Google Voice since its free and the app is decent. There are many other apps that can also do this job.

You can send and receive SMS with google voice.
Get a GV number, and load google's client.
You can recieve and send directly with the client. The web interface lets you configure gv to forward messages to other sms numbers and/or to email accounts. if you reply to an sms from the email account it will bridge back to the original senders SMS.
My only issue is that when I forward gv sms to phone sms and I reply from the phone, the messages come from the phone instead of bridging back through gv....if of reply from the gv client it is fine.
...this is an excellent solution for wifi only tablets.

Use Tablet talk and sync with bluetooth for both devices. It will allow you to text using your tablet only.
Desksms is going to release a native tablet app too

Can we text with our Note 10.1?

Before this tablet was released and the rumors were flying about specs and features, I thought I read somewhere that we would possibly be able to "tether" in a way from our phone and be able to send texts from our tablet using our cell phone's number basically. Does anyone else remember hearing this rumor too and better yet, is this feature available and anyone know how to enable it?

Yes it possible, I've been using Google voice free from the play store, just set up Google voice which will give u a gvoice phone number and you should be able to make calls and send text messages over any wifi. The only down side is that you can't receive calls so if somebody calls they will be asked to leave a voice mail and you will receive a email with the voice mail to download and listen to.. In my opinion its awesome cause its free and it works

Tablet Talk Paid app, syncs to your phone via wifi or bluetooth. Text directly from your Galaxy Note.
MySMS (Tablet) Syncs between the mysms app on your phone. Allows for SMS and MMS to be sent from your tablet or desktop, all free.
TabletSMS Same as mySMS, text from the tablet directly, desktop, or phone. Be warned that this is $5/year.

I always had to have it open to receive texts. If I closed it and forgot I would find texts days, weeks, or months later. Nice idea, poor implementation. Needs to work like regular text apps. If I close them I still get notifications.

So many of the products Google puts out like Voice seem very half-assed to me. For instance voice mail transcription in Google Voice is so pathetically bad its funny. I get a voicemail from my mom asking me to get her a salad for lunch and the transcription is something like:
"Hi, mom on mars. Pick up syringes for grunge."

Just purchased this one and it is amazing! Sms's are sent instantly via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi depending on your choice of how you connect your tablet to the phone using the app.
The best thing is, if you use a Bluetooth headset and it is paired with your phone, this app allows you to call and reject phone calls from the tablet. The phone can be left in your pocket as the app also has caller id. The calls are handled by your phone and controlled by this app. Also those who wish to use the new Bluetooth pen for calling can use it too via this app.
Who needs 3g anymore? Not me, that's for sure, I have saved myself £100.

Huh?
I just went to the Play Store on my PC and it basically says the "Tablet Talk" is pretty much compatible with every phone ever made EXCEPT the Epic 4G Touch. WTH? Why not? Tried emailing the developer but their email link is broken.
Not happy.
---------- Post added at 09:09 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:29 AM ----------
Ok, their customer service emailed me the .apk. I installed it on my phone. Made my phone and tablet discoverable to each other and paired.
Tablet Talk cannot connect to phone bluetooth.
I noticed when setting things up they ask for a password, but at no point in the connection process is the password requested. Makes me think I am missing a step in here somewhere?
I'm using Tablet Talk on my Epic 4g Touch through my Galaxy Note 10.1 & Nexus 7 tablets via WiFi....
I just wish it had the ability to do MMS, the only shortcoming. Other then that its a great program.
Yes I was finally able to connect via wifi. Bluetooth would not work.

That is strange because I was not asked at any point to put in a password. Maybe it is the phone model causing the issue.
The developer has an active forum where you can ask the questions as to why you are having issues, link below:
