Trying to install drivers on windows xp

Im coming from a mac so i picked up an older PC running windows xp so i could download Odin and flash my phone since its pretty much useless right now. I can install the drivers and the computer recognizes my phone but when i plug it in it says new hardware Samsung android USB Modem.
so i try to install it and it always gets stuck trying to install C:\windows\system32\drivers
it tells me that it might not function properly because it wasnt installed correctly.
I dont know what else to do

Where did you get the drivers (they should ahve been downloaded right from the samsung site)? Also what USB mode to you have your Phone in? I beleive for direct connection it has to be in Mass Storage mode. I didnt have any issues when I installed Kies onto my XP Machine and the phone was recognized right away.

If it's displaying the yellow triangle, it isn't a brick.
There seems to be some sort of problem with your PC. Beyond that I can't help you - I never use download mode on a Windows machine. All I can suggest is - do you see any unknown devices in device manager when the phone is plugged in and in download mode?
i had this problem as well. and still do on the front USB ports of my machine.
Install the Drivers again and try the ports on the Back of your PC....Hope it helps
Had same problem tried for an hour Odin would not recognize, used friends PC recognized first time, phone is not bricked its your PC try restarting, mine finally did recognize phone after continues restarting and switching USB Ports didn't even have to run Odin as admin

[Q] HELP! Softbrick, Windows is not recognizing my phone

Hello, I believe I screwed up something with the mounting/unmounting before I flashed a ROM, and my phone is not working as a result. Originally, it would sit at the Samsung Sidekick 4g Tmobile screen forever, and I could use the button combination to get it into download mode... now that doesn't work, and it only goes to the black screen with the phone and the computer.
I have downloaded driver after driver after driver trying to get this to work, I have downloaded ODIN, and I understand how to use it, but there is no way ODIN is going to see my phone because Windows will not properly install it. I only have a PPC mac and Win 7 computers, one win 7 computer says device is malfunctioning and the other win 7 computer loads it as a "Gadget Serial" but says that it did not install properly. I have tried all the samsung drivers, all the samsung programs to no avail. I've tried more than one USB cable too...
Is there any hope in getting this phone back to life? Do I need to use a windows XP installation? I have VMware so I could try XP or linux but frankly I'm afraid to do anything more for fear of further complicating this situation.
Final Edit: SOLVED. I uninstalled everything save for the samsung drivers, installed the android SDK and plugged it in a different usb port...although im not sure if windows got it right away, ODIN detected it and I was able to restore.

If you have kies then just install kies on pc then connect your phone;dont need to install driver manually.

I had the same problem long ago
You need to remove all the Samsung drivers and kies if present in your PC and install Samsung USB drivers (find them from xda or Google or install kies)
Connect your phone in download mode and let the system detect your phone

this problem was caused by the last update!

This is a NEW problem that is affecting many thousands of people and it happened after the last update.
I have a GT 19300 v4.1.2 and all was well until I installed the update.
Now when I connect the phone to my PC (W7) the system sees it and tries to install drivers but then gives a message saying the it failed to install them.
Device manager now shows my phone as an unknown device and it didn't before.
I have tried lots of fixes and there are now dozens and dozens of them on different forums and none of them work.
This is not a cable problem and not a Kies problem. Lots of people including me have installed and uninstalled it.
I have the Samsung GS3 Int ToolKit an it installed the latest drivers today 1.5.15.0 and they didn't help.
Many people have tried a reset and all it did was waste their time so don't bother.
It looks like only Samsung or Google can fix the problem but I'd love to here of another fix.

Today I disconnected the internet and plugged the phone into a different USB socket before booting the PC
The message I got this time was,
Samsung_Android X Device unplugged
Unidentified Device X No driver found
The above makes no sense to me but if it does to you then please let me know.
Thanks,
Michael

I got a message on my cellphone "the software does not exist on your phone to allow it to connect with your phone. You need .. XP with Windows media player ..." I don't remember the exact words". I'm using W7
Then when I unplugged my phone W7 said drivers are being installed and then said successfully installed. I plugged the phone in and it was recognized.
I opened Samsung GS3 Int ToolKit but it didn't show a serial at the top. I attempted to do a back up of all programs but gave up after a message, "waiting for ADB mode" appeared on the screen for over an hour. My phone isn't rooted; is that why?
The phone is no longer being recognize

[Q] Odin don't see my tablet in download mode

When I plug in my p3113 into the computer while in download mode, it tries to install driver software, it does, then tells me the device was not successfully installed, I have Samsung USB drivers installed from kies, I've tried different usb ports to no avail.
I've been rooting phones since the G1, I've been through this process several times with several Samsung devices and have never had this problem, so is my computer just old or what?
I am running a fresh install of W7 Ultimate service pack 1. Don't come at me with searching either because I have and haven't found a solution.
Would like to get this done so my kids can continue downloading games, don't really wanna have to use someone elses computer but that is what it is gonna have to come down to unless someone here knows the answer to my problem.
Seems you know what you are doing. Only thing I can think of....did you turn USB debugging on? I believe it needs to be on for Odin.
Also do you have the proper drivers? If you install Kies and plug in your phone, your comp will download the needed drivers for your device, perhaps this may help
