Is there an application that will put the G2X into car mode? Where the phone goes into landscape, the phone defaults to speaker and the screen doesn't time out?

Not that I'm aware of, but if you have stereo bluetooth in your car (A2DP), you can set the car home app to launch automatically when the phone connects to the car's bluetooth.
You can do this in Locale. Its a poweruser software and well worth it if you use your phone as a business tool.

Hi all, I have had my O2 IQ for about a month now and love it to bits - first XDA I have had with a decent radio rom from the box!
my only problem is that when I am in the car, obviously, I cannot pick it up to answer a call and pressing the call button to go to speakerphone is a pain as well as distrating, especially if tomtom is running, as it usually minimizes the program as well
I really don't like headsets, so really need some way to get the phone to automatically answer in speakerphone mode
I thought I would be able to do this in a profile, but cant see any way to do it, is there a program which can allow this?
I don't have any problem with using speakerphone in the car as others seem to, so it would be an ideal solution
I am running the original O2 rom if it makes any difference, not felt the need to mess with it yet!
any help much appreciated
regards
Robert

Any idea's anyone.
I have the same problem.
Press green button for a while - speakerphone will be turned on
Same problem here, anyway to auto answer in loudspeaker?
@ZlydenGL - we don't have the time to press the answer button and then press the loudspeaker button when driving, dangerous
This probably isn't quite what you're looking for, but can't you plug in a wired headset into your phone when you're in the car?
My dad had something like that, with the microphone mounted above the steering wheel...

I would prefer more freedom
trying to work out if this is only hardware specific to the t959 and not i9000 or if my dock is faulty or samsung/android is not up to speed. maybe i have to do some software tweak??
Got myself the t959 desktop dock and the i9000 fits perfectly, charges and automatically runs the desktop app. all good
my problem is i cant get audio to come out of the docks 3.5mm plug which is usb audio out from i9000. it just keeps coming out the phones speaker no matter what.
the official info from samsung is that froyo 2.2 will allow the audio out of the usb port. at least on the dock advertising and packaging.
info about dock in this link.
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/ECR-D979BEGSTA-features
Ive tried darkys 8.0 rom which is running 2.2.1 i believe and today tried with darkys 8.0 rom and voodoo 5.2 sound optimised kernel but no go on the usb audio out.
any ideas or info would be appreciated.
cheers
B
Maybe the custom kernel has broken the sound through usb support?
Try install a stock kernel (or stock+ voodoo maybe).. at least to rule out the possibility.
ok found this thread after many many searches. from google strangly but anyway...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858804
doesnt look like the stock samsung kernel does it either on any device.
might put a request in to voodoo to see if they can do it.
Have you installed the Desk home Samsung"-App?
You can get it here.

In the settings you can switch between internal and external speakers.
Some extra goodies:

But I'm worried why it seems to be only mono and not stereo....
Hi,
Just got this dock too (t929 for Samsung Vibrant) and the line-out seems to be working for me.
My phone is UK - XEU unlocked Samsung Galaxy S, running official Samsung 2.2.1 firmware (XXJPY). (no mods of any kind)
Also using the Desk Home app from Samsung Apps, version reports as 1.0.
The only odd thing (probably due to the app version) is that the sound comes out both the phone speaker and the line-out. In order to use the line-out properly, looks like have to mute the phone sound via the dock app.
I only used the standard music app and have not tried other apps though.
Things I noticed while have a play:
- clicking the "home" button takes you to the desk home app rather than
the home screen.
- while docked, music app Effects won't work
- plugin phone to dock launches desk home app.
- if you Exit desk home, touchwiz home screen is in landscape mode
I will try the app mentioned earlier, as curious to try the speaker config setting.
Overall, am happy, just wish Samsung had this in EU (UK) during phone launch and also had the original dock that was shown with the speakers.
Cheers,
Hi,
same problem for me. I got the Samsung cardock last week but audio out doesn't work. I'm on Darky 9.0 with hardcore K12Q kernel maybe it will work with the stock JPY or with voodoo kernel...I gonna try this tomorrow I think.
If this is a hardware problem i can solve it myself with a little bit creativity and some information about the car mode and how to get in this mode.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=820275
with the right resistance you might be able to turn it on manually an than use headphone in and micro usb at the same time so that you doesnt need the original power supply...
On the Desk Home app, I had to press the "mute" button in order to get the sound to go to the line out. If I exit the Desk Home app, the sound comes back to the internal speaker....
ok more information.. the version of the app posted via links earlier in the thead does not work right in froyo.. if you set up weather in daily briefing it crashes when running
this modified version (older) i found for froyo does work correctly with weather and it even pops up the app correcly when you plug in the cradle.. in addition it does not let the screen time out and turn off like the other version.. havent tried with music yet but there is a setting to use music out over usb in the app.. i am running jpy 2.2.1 let me know how it works for you..
notif. bar is too bright.. at night dont know a way to hide it.. anyone?
very happy to report that the audio out also works through the dock.. when you goto options and set it to turn off internal speaker...just tried on some amplied speakers and the internal speaker shuts off.. very sweet..
now the only real issue is the innability to hide the notif. bar, and the worry about screen burnin.. maybe there should be an option to set timeout (different than regular timeout) to say xx minutes or something.. with a little moving area you can touch to turn the screen back on.. kinda like a screen saver.
also was supprised that the app pops up authomatically when you plug into the dock even without having the dock plugged in as it is not good to have the battery continually charging.. must be some sort of resister internal in the dock.

Thanks heaps for all the effort and replies.
My v1.0 desk home from samsung works as above. will try the attached version as the one from samsung doesnt have internal speaker olff in settings.
EDIT: update both the versions work.
v1.0 available from samsung apps store uses mute for 3.5mm plug audio out.
attached version above use uncheck internal speaker.
both versions need to be running in order for 3.5mm plug to output audio. So guessing this is done via dock home app and any other app can take advantage of it.
start playing thru poweramp then run dock home and your audio comes out 3.5mm plug
this is all on i9000 btw and i suspect also t959.
have emailed both poweramp and alarm clock plus to see whether they would mod their apps to work same as desk home.
will see what they come back with but in the mean time thanks for showing me how i can get my music out the 3.5mm plug.
I know this thread is a little old, but I too have this dock, and I'm having audio related problems.
I have a Samsung Vibrant (T959), which is designed to work with this dock. I upgraded to Froyo, which again is necessary in order to get the audio to work using the line out port. And I downloaded and installed the Desk Home app. I also muted the speaker.
I get audio, but it's horrible.... nowhere near the quality I get when using the phone's headphone jack. The line out port has almost no bass... I'm not being picky, the difference is DRASTIC.
I sent the unit back to Samsung TWICE, and both replacement units had the same issue.... horrible audio quality using the line out port. Has anyone else experienced this problem?
I'm starting to thing my phone may be to blame, but I can't be sure as I don't have a second phone to test the dock with. The thing is.... the audio is great when I use the phone's headphone jack. Maybe when the audio is transmitted via the phone's USB port it degrades in quality?? Is this possible?
Just got this car mount yesterday.
Using Car Dock Home or Dock Sound Redirector in the market seems to make the music play for me through the car speakers.
Quality seems great - no different than before (and better quality than radio). Using MyUI Delphenium ROM which has the Voodoo sound kernal I believe.
Only problem is that calls don't work (as reported on multiple threads). I have to switch to internal speaker to hear people. Will look around the market for a replacement app...
I use my phone as an audio player in my car (connected through aux), and have a problem. My problem is, in order to change tracks, I have to turn the phone on, and switch tracks. Is there an accessory that will let me do this by just pushing a button?
I saw this:
http://www.htc.com/hk-en/product/accessory/headset_rc-e100.html
But heard that it doesn't work on our phones. Any suggestions?
Motorola T505. It's s Bluetooth speakerphone with a FM transmitter. You stream your tunes and phone calls from your Inspire through the T505. Check eBay. I paid $40 for mine.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using the power of the dark side.
It seems that with that the sound will be emitted through the device itself and not through my car's speakers.
Run the tpgb rom. Has audio controls on the lock screen. Click volume key to turn on screen(another great feature), then click to skip track.

It has a FM transmitter. It can play through the built-in speaker but doesn't have to. When you turn on the FM transmitter, a small voice will tell you what frequency to tune your radio to and it stops playing through the speaker. While broadcasting through FM, the volume buttons become track forward/reverse.

From what I've read MIUI and CM7 also do this, correct? I would do this, but I'm a big fan of sense. Maybe I'll try it.

Try the Headset Button app. I can manage tracks using the one button on my earphones. Check out the trial version first.

Good luck!
Thanks for all the suggestions, guys. I finally found a way to make my volume rocker skip music on a sense rom, without having to buy anything. Thanks again.
love this feature. Coming from an Iphone, I really missed that.
Does anyone know how to disable music from automatically starting when my phone connects to my car? I noticed this happened on my stock thunderbolt, but when I rooted it some of the ROMs I installed did NOT do this so it would seem to me that it is modifiable somehow.
It is a very annoying feature...every time I end a call music starts whether it was playing before the call or not. Every time I start the car music starts. I know there is an app called Media Button Router that does stop this from happening by forcing you to choose the app to run upon bluetooth connect...but this app breaks button control from my wired headset.
Ive noticed this also its very annoying and can drain battery if you dont notice it

I've noticed that Z3 doesn't have a car mode.
This makes the driving uncomfortable and a bit dangerous as if I've receive a call, I need to activate the speaker in order to be able to answer the call. Also, I don't have the apps at hand as in HTC Car mode.
Is there a way to get a car mode on the Z3 or an app I can use for this??
Thanks in advance.
