No, overrides the original Music apk
mines did not are you running CM7?
Mine overwrote the original music app, too. Running stock rom though.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA Premium App
Mine did not overwrite it, as the package was named slightly differently. The widget kept force-closing, all i did then was to open root explorer and deleted the old music.apk in /system/app - now it works.
their package name are different so it is not overwrite original music apk

Ecactly what problems do you have?
The best working version is the one in the Market
I haven't been using the stock music app. I've been using this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=917365
It works great on my stock Froyo tab (Yes, I have a Sprint Tab that has yet to be updated to GB ) Just ignore the Honeycomb part. I like it much better than the stock music player.
Hello!
is there any way to remove the music app?
I'm using POWER-AMP...
I don't like that I cannot put my music in sub-folders this is why I want to remove it , also I don't like that when I want to select a ringtone it's lead my to MIUI music app...
Thanks!
With root explore u should be able to remove it. Under system/app.

Are you using root explorer? Look at the top and make sure it reads "mounted as r/w"

because when I want to set a ringtone from my MP3 library I rather do it from a system app than from a 3rd party app.
I found out that if the 3rd party app FC so does the ringtone selected from it...

if you install the stock music app after having removed miui music, the stock one will behave as a 3rd party app on miui rom.
bump
I really like MIUI rom but now I get the feeling of an iPhone OS all over again...
If someone is having kindly share.

Use CyanogenMod 7.2. Google Music works fine with DSP Manager on CM.

Me too, i tried to install it when it leaked last summer, and i needed to root, i didn't want that.
Well I doubt there'll be a 'modded' Google Music apk with equalizer. You could try searching for ways to enable CM's DSP Manager on TouchWiz ROMs though.

If you have a rooted phone then I'd recommend installing Volume+ which lets you not only increase the volume but also has an equaliser that is applied to all audio.
If you have your music on the SD card, then use powerAMP. It has the best equ I've found. If you have to use google music, then install DSPmanager
So, you have a stock ROM with a music player that has it's own equalizer. And you want someone to modify the Google Music APK to use your default music player's EQ, when the default player's EQ can't be used by other music players? How much sense does that make? Or am I just getting this completely wrong?
I figure why not and downgrade to the classic android market, don't care for Google play much. So how would I downgrade to a very early version like that and prevent it from re-updating back to Google play?

Well, you could find an apk somewhere for an older version (extract from a rom, for example) and delete/freeze market updater apk.
This is a good idea

[APK] Old Market v2.3.6
What coccolino_dbro said. Here's the apk for old Market v2.3.6. Got it from BlackICE ROM for HTC DHD.
Thank you, so I would freeze market updater with nobloat and then install this apk which would replace the current one?

I disabled the market updater with nobloat, that should hold right?

Does it work then?
Well I disabled it with nobloat, but after a reboot the icon changed and it upgraded to the version where the shopping bag android icon changed a little. So I tried freezing it, after a reboot it was back to Google play.

Guys, my phone's market is really screwed up, someone please help.
Sent from my SGH-T679 using xda premium
Try deleting MarketUpdater.apk and the Google Play apk through a root file browser. I think Google play apk is called Phonesky.apk and not Vending.apk. Anyway delete both those files from your /system/app folder and then move the old market apk to the folder. Set permissions to rw--r--r (same as all the other apps in the folder) and reboot. Should work now. Copy the MarketUpdater.apk to your SD card before deleting, just in case.

Does anybody know the file permissions of the market updater.apk?

That is very odd if your phone FC on original apk. I'll upload the same apk with no add removed. Let me now if it still FC. If this one FC it might be your ROM. It plays fine on my infuse and gnexus.
Try this apk, it is same app with adds - Download
