Hopefully you have this fixed by now.....
I had this happen the other day. I had it hooked to my computer with the SD card mounted. I disconnected the phone from the computer without unmounting the SD card first. The phone started scanning and didn't stop, just as you were reporting. To get it working again I reconnected it and remounted the SD card. It took a little longer than usual to mount but it eventually worked. I unmounted before disconnecting it after that and all was well. I typically disconnect without unmounting and have not seen this again, seems like a fluke.

Do you SERIOUSLY think I havent done that? Take your time and think about that for a minute....
On another note...I guess this is a faulty phone. Not wanting to send it back since I have minimal backlight bleed...

is probably the sdcard, might have gotten corrupted.
Try formatting the sdcard and see if that helps

I see what you are saying I thought you meant the external one. In that case I would still format phone internal memory.

for the last couple days I have experienced three times of the same issue - my SD card was unexpectedly unmounted, while during normal operation
I have tried power-off and power-cycle, but my Inspire would not mount the SD card back. I was only able to recover by powering of the phone then physically re-inserting the card.
Has anybody experienced a similar issue? Thanks
I think this is a common issue with the stock sd card. It happens to me every now and then too. You could try an after market. I hear folks seem to have the best luck with san disk.
Mine did the same thing when I first got mine. I formatted it and moved to a custom rom. Haven't had it happen since. It's a 16 gb sandisc that I've had since my lg incite a couple of years ago.

it kept happening to me too so i just took my phone back and got a new one. havnt had one problem with the new unit at all. the guy at the store said he had replaced a few others for the same issue.
All I did was format the SD card and deleted any app2sd apps from the phone and its fine now. 2.2+ has app2sd stock so I think it causes conflicts if you install one from the market.

I was having this same issue with my Inspire, with increasing frequency up until today. Today, my phone wouldn't even mount the sd card. I could mount it in clockwork recovery and see the contents on my computer (via usb), but once booted into my Android Revolution ROM, no luck.
To test whether the problem was the phone or the card, I stuck the card in my other phone - an Aria - and the card from that phone in my Inspire. Both worked! After that, I put the original card back in the Inspire, and lo and behold it worked!
Lesson learned: if your sd card stops working, put it in a different phone for a minute.
Anybody having issues with their SD card unmounting repeatedly?
I would be listening to music or using another app, then I get a notification saying the SD card unmounted unexpectedly. To fix this, I would have to reboot. Sometimes rebooting once doesnt actually solve the issue.
I do have to say that when I boot into recovery (CWM) the card is present and readable (I am able to reflash ROMs from it).
I found similar threads for other devices, but there seems to be no solution offered.
When this problem occured, I was runnning ARHD 3.6.2 (not sure if that has anything to do with it).
Any solutions to this?
Thanks!

Mine just did this to me tonight. Now when you insert it I see the "Preparing SD Card" then about 2 seconds later "Removed SD Card". I had been using a SanDisk 8 GB class 2 thats been through 2 BlackBerry phones before this one, so I popped the Kingston 8 GB class 4 the phone came with in there and voila, it sees the card. Im thinking my card may have randomly gone belly up on me, but I will know more after I get a reader for my PC.
Just wondering if anyone else has had issues with SD cards randomly doing this with this phone. It seems I've read a lot about SD card problems with these phones while searching, I don't want to have to worry about losing all my data as much as I am now. The card was rock solid for about 3 years in the other phones, and I've had my Sensation less than a month.
~T.J.
This normally happens to me right before I start an app that would read or write into the data in the card: when I start playing MP3s, start games or apps installed in the card, accept a bluetooth file transfer, send a file from the card thru bluetooth, etc
I happens at least once a day. Generally, a simple reboot works to get the card back, but if it doesnt, I would have to open the cover and manually take out then reinsert the card.
I'm pretty sure it's not a hardware issue, though this is the first card I've used on my Sensation (bought brand new for use specifically with the phone).
Does branding of the card have anything to do with it? I admit that I got a brand that was slightly on the cheaper side, but had a lifetime warranty. If it matters, the card is made in Taiwan.
I haven't changed cards, as I'm still hoping this might just be a software bug. The reason I say this is because the very first time this happened, I had installed Always Flash, which I found to be an app that I could do without. I forced stopped the app and uninstalled it, and that's when the bug hit for the first time.
Hope someone knows the answer to this...
Thanks!
That's what happened to me, I opened titanium to do a backup and got a card removed unexpectedly error. The phone has never recognized the card since.

I've been having the same problem with my sensation xe. Sometimes it'll be fine for a week or more, and then it may unmount the card randomly 2 or 3 days in a row. Normally I have to shutdown, pull the battery and physically remove and re-insert the card to get it to remount, as just rebooting has never worked for me.
Tonite, even this wouldn't work. I ended up having to boot into 4ext and mount the card in there before rebooting the phone.
I really do hope someone can work out the reason our phones are doing this.
For the record, I'm using ARHD 6.7.0 and a 32g class 10 Strontium card.
anybody found a solution for this?... I also have the same problem. Tried several sd card and stock/no stock roms. Same thing every time.
I think it is a hardware prob.
I had this happen to me before but found a solution for mine. I checked my SD card and it was not locked in it's caseing so it was unmounting randomly. I removed the SD card and replaced making certain it was locked into the caseing and it's never happened again. It's definitely worth a try to check your card and make absolutely sure it's locked into the caseing. Would not hurt to check. For me, this solved my problem. My card was in the caseing but not locked in, this was causing my issue. I wish you the best. I do hope you get this fixed. Hopefully it's only that the card is loose ! Like I said it's worth a try. Best wishes.
I'd try fully formatting the card using gparted. I always do this if I have any suspicion that something may be wrong with a card and its never let me down yet.
Google it, its free and there are videos on YouTube showing how to use it so all it'll cost you is a bit of time, gotta be worth a go......

a process called "media" that after the phone boots keeps crashing and restarting. If I kill this process the phone acts normally and I get my usual day usage out of the battery.

It only seems to occur on Sense 3.6 and means that the phone ends up remaining in a wakelock state for a 45 minutes to hours in my experience.
I initially thought I had corrupt MP3's or Photos but that doesn't seem to be the case.
These are the posts from another thread with their configuration:

The issue doesn't occur on Sense 4.0 ROM's.
My workaround was to just disable Media starting automatically using System Tuner (needs root).

I tried different sd cards:
Unbranded 16gb class 4 - media process started restarting a few minutes after boot.
Kingston 16gb class 4 - media process didn't start for a few hours (do we know what app starts this?) Then started restarting and keeping the phone awake.
Both occasions the cards had no photos or music on them.
It seems to get stuck in restart mode after Sense crashes. I dont know if you guys noticed but usually after it crashes mobile data geta activated as well. Can else someone confirm?

I suppose that confirms that it's a Sense 3.6 problem rather than our SD cards.

For me it starts scanning at boot up as it should but continues and then the MediaDB Migration service constantly restarts.
Mobile data doesn't seem to have an effect on it in my experience.

Odd that it doesn't effect everyone though... (Or they haven't noticed and assume the lower battery performance is due to ICS)
Just a quick update, Still got the Kingston SD card in. The media process started again this morning and has been "restarting" since, however according to the power information on the phone it hasn't been "awake" the whole time, and my battery is still at 98% after 4 hours (1 4min call, 8 sms).

It was like that for me occasionally, when did you last reboot your phone, straight after charging?
Last reboot was when I changed to the Kingston SD card. However, sense did crash and restart last night, so guessing that's why this media process started again.
Mine crashed sometime last night, phone was playing tune in radio before I fell asleep. So I think we say its a bug and has nothing to do with SD card. Anyone wanna file bug report to HTC?

I have about 20 gig of music and 5 gig of pics/videos. The one I thing I noticed yesterday when I was copying everything from the SD card to my PC was that it kept erroring out, but I couldn't place where because I was trying to do a bulk copy and just be done with it. But because I was getting that error, I had to do it folder by folder. Everything went find till I hit the Android folder. I thought that was odd because it wasn't that big of a folder. So I went into the subfolders and started doing those one by one. PITA. Eventually I found that the 0 kb .nomedia file that was in the android/data folder would not copy over to my PC. So I removed that file after the format. I don't know if that was the file culprit, but knock on wood, so far I've gotten 18 hours after a full charge on ARHD 6.6.0.
I also noticed this today after my battery only lasted 5 hours with light use, and it's an anker extended battery! I have like 500 pictures and 1gb of songs. I haven't tried reformatting my sd card yet but I will try it in a bit.
Sent from my HTC Sensation using Tapatalk
Thanks for the info.
So maybe we can conclude you need a fair amount of music and photos for this to occur?
I don't see what difference the .nomedia file would make. I've seen it as a solution to the 'Media Scanner Drain' in other threads.
Did you say you put the .nomedia file in /Android/data? That's one thing I did because I was getting music files from games in my music list which was annoying.
No matter what SD card you have ...
Solution for me on Desire S ICS 4.0.4 Sense 3.6 is uncheck fast boot and then restart phone ...

So the files are actually gone? Did you lose everything, or just some of your files?
How are you checking if the files are still there? File explorer app on the phone, plugging in the phone to your PC - or perhaps the best option, pull the card and use a card reader?
Very strange indeed. I've used this phone for 8 months or so - while I've always had the same SD card in it, I've never had data go missing.

I was able to recover about 4GB, it was that little because i copied some files over while getting dressed in the morning (not realizing that files had been lost). The training videos were about 6gb but i didnt really care about those since i have a subscription to cbt. Most of photos and videos are lost now tho. Something told me to dd this sdcard the day before.
I used photorec on linux and recuva in a virtual machine. I put the sdcard in a usb card reader.
The only theory i have is that my battery died because i didnt charge it that night (was at about 30%), and it didnt shut down properly in time. You would think it would have time to shutdown properly but that's the only reason I could come up with.

Unfortunately not. I just check my storage before I snap a picture. I can say it's more stable as time passes by. It doesn't happen that often anymore
I think it only happens after a reboot.
I thought so too, but it's not the case for me. I don't reboot my phone, and it never rebooted on its own. It simply switches to internal memory randomly.
I have the same problem. Do you know if it happens to everyone with Android Pie or only happens to a few? It bothers me because the camera settings change without warning and I have to be aware in the case of recording a long video.
The frustrating thing is that with so little news about the developments it is very possible that we remain with the problem eternally.
Happens in my HTC U12+ as well. It's quite annoying that it happens. One always got to check, and as I tend to forget to check it, I always see it later and got to move my pictures to SD manually.

Try forcing permissions for removable storage. It doesn't solve the issue complitely, but it happens much less. I could go for weeks without it switching to internal memory

I have not tried that. I put it directly from my previous mobile phone (U11 +). Before formatting it, I would like you to confirm to me in a few days that it still behaves the same. That is, after restarting the mobile phone having established external storage in the camera continues to maintain the setting.
If you don't mind, I'd appreciate you giving us some feedback. Thank you.

I had u11+ as well, have you cleared the data in the camera app? (obvious usually catches me out lol) I formatted mine via PC after transferring all stuff off my Sdcard, then I formatted the Sdcard inside the phone, it then allowed me to flash from 128gb ruu before it wouldbt. It won't work with twrp tho got be 32gb Sdcard ,it dont recognise & refuses to mount
After five days and two cell phone resets I can say that it works correctly. Formatting the sd card seems to solve all problems. Now the camera is always set to external storage.
Formatting the card did not bring any improvement.
At random times, the recording changes to internal memory. In addition, after a restart, usually ringtones (phones, event, alarm, notification in YaataSMS) also return to the system settings.

You're right. Today it was in the internal memory without having reset. Dammit.
To avoid problems with the ringtones it is better to have the audio files in the internal memory. After moving them, the sounds have not changed again.
Kind regards.
Unfortunately, after more than 10 years of loyalty to the HTC brand, seeing deadlock, no new premium smartphones, no staff that Google took over - this year I will change the brand.
I'm sorry, but U12 + is the last smartphone of this brand
