So i'v had my Transformer for a few days now and have just mainly used it for browsing the web and playing some games. I haven't purchased the dock yet so i'm holding on using it for work/school.
It would be interesting to know how you all use the device and what features are your favorites.
so far, lying otter like on my sofa, with the TF in one hand reading the forums with a bowl of ice cream sitting on my belly has been my favorite activity
TF + Reddita = ultimate bathroom reader

looking at porn ... not every site has changed to tablet friendly streams.

every time I take my tablet or cell in the restroom with me I end up sitting on the toilet way longer than I need to...haha.
I love the browser on this thing. It's fast and loads up full sites rather than mobile versions.
Download apps. I haven't even launched more than 3 apps so far, but for some reason I can't stop installing them for some reason.
And remind me never to touch any of y'all's TFs.
I use it to:
- play video games ala Roms and Emulators (playing Pokemon Red on GBA atm)
- read comic books (American superhero comics, Graphic Novels and Mangas)
- read the news (I love the USA today app!)
- watch movies and anime (mobo player is excellent. Surprised it plays .mkv)
That's pretty much it. My first android device and first tablet fulfills all my needs. I'm so glad I didn't get an iPad.

Are you me? That is totally what I've been doing. Also my bathroom visits have gotten way longer
Everything pretty much. Email, web, paying bills, watching movies ect. For work too, reading PDFs, logging into Citrix, work email, taking notes.
It makes a great reader for comic books and manga
Oh I'm studying vascular and artery for a certification test coming up so google body has become my bible. It looks AMAZING!
Oh and browsing the internet and shopping. Taking it on the road, playing glow hockey with my cousins. Silly things like that.
Basically making sure my other Asus, the gj73-3de takes a break from all of the above and is just used soley for gaming purposes lol.
Comic books are awesome on this size screen. Droid Comic Viewer (ACV) is free and works quite well.
Movies to entertain the kids.
CoPilot navigation software.
surf, watch live streams, music, movies, games -- thats about it
I like to check the weather and traffic in the morning, read emails, check the XDA posts etc. I also love the parcels app that lets me track shipments!
The tablet is a convenient way to browse the web quickly w/o having to fire up my desktop PC. It's easy to watch movies/TV shows for a few minutes wherever I am.
At work I take my TF with me into meetings so I can follow presentations on my own screen instead of killing trees for printouts or relying on others to share their laptops with me.
The best thing is that I can fulfill almost all of my tech needs with that gadget anywhere in the house. My wife appreciates that a lot since I don't disappear in my man cave as much anymore So for everyone looking for a good excuse to buy a tablet - that's the one!
Check weather/news/email soon as I wake up in the morning, but still too sleepy to get out of bed.
General light browsing, watching daily show right before I go to bed.

I use a paid app called "Android Agenda Widget Plus". It lets me configure my agenda and it has a scrollable widget!!!! I also got the Business Calendar while it was free on amazon but it is not as good in my opinion.
Comic books, auto repair manuals, electrical schematics. Freaking people out when i seperate or reattach the dock, and of course porn, portrait screens are good for full page spreads, yep.

I've seen a few App Requests posted as threads here, and I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread dedicated to act as a catchall for App Requests. I gather that we have Dev Dudes from major tech corps roaming around these halls, so why not have a list of apps we want as consumers easily available to them!
I'll kick things off with these requests:
-A good, integrated guitar/bass tuner with metronome and practice timer(s)
-Adobe Camera RAW interface
-Adobe Bridge for tablets
-VLC Player for tablets
-DJ mixing software that can use headphone output and HDMI [audio] separately for cue/mix output
Feel free to point us to apps that fill requests as they are developed or if they have existed before the request

I'd like an app that you can instantly take a snapshot of the screen or take a camera snapshot and start to annotate on it right away, e.g you were browsing and came across something of interest and you want to add your own comments and underline or mark a specific area.
I know this can be done using repligo or ezpdf however it will involve a few steps to achieve using the Asus's in built snapshot feature and then converting the document to pdf in order to annotate but I want something instant without having to convert the file first, similar to htc flyers note taking app.
Can't you do this with Evernote? I just downloaded this last night but it seems really slick.

Unfortunately, you cannot annotate using evernote although it is fantastic for taking notes, i use it at work at meetings. I want to be able to take a snapshot of the meeting agenda which is usually printed and then start to add notes against agenda items.
I'm just going to make a list of the things I think will make this brilliant - I'm a very small time developer, and don't have the skills to do these, unfortunately:
Something similar to Microsoft Onenote - Drawing/notes/annotations all in one
"Phone Sync" where you pick up your tablet, and it also becomes your phone for SMS, MMS, Calls, and you can share clipboards between the two - This would be brilliant!
Decent Twitter and Facebook widgets
Modified Launcher with resizable widgets, folders - ideally, LauncherPro optimised for Honeycomb.
I'd like to see the Monkey Island games and some of the old Cinemaware titles such as Defender Of The Crown on Android.

You can play the monkey island games nicely using ScummVM.

I designed an Android app for tablet which I think would be pretty easy to make, UI, name, logo and all, but... I'm not a programmer. Also I believe this will be an app which would be handy for a lot of people.
Since I designed, thought of and branded the app I really don't just want to give the idea away to anyone, but if any app developer is interested feel free to contact me and I could explain the concept to them.
PS: I don't want a share of the profits or to get paid for it or anything like that, all I would want is to find a developer who could do justice to not only the concept but also to the design since there are so many well functioning but terrible looking android apps.
Excellent posts!
Thanks for the interest and the activity on the thread!
I'm watching a thread where a couple Asus dev dudes have actually weighed in on an issue users are having, so I'm gonna see if I can't point them to this one so we'll have some ears that can make a difference. Hopefully some [all?] of the ideas here will filter thru and become reality!
Kudos to everyone!
I'd like an app that can sync via bluetooth (not via the web/cloud), incoming sms messages/caller id/missed call info, from an android phone directly to the transformer with notifications.
I know there are lots which do it via the web, but this isn't an option for me (pre-pay sim not contract).
EDIT:
Another idea for an app, don't know if possible to implement or not. When browsing google search results it would be nice to have an app that lets you see how many kilobytes or megabytes a website requires you to download, before you accessed the page. So that mobile users can see how much data is required and can manage their free allowance better, or not be charged a fortune.
A media player app that can
1. have gesture controls like moboplayer
2. have good codec support like moboplayer
3. can stream from server
4. and can hide the honeycomb taskbar!!!!
Settlers of Catan map generator
Would be cool to see a Settlers of Catan map generator with support for Seafarers, Cities and Knights, Harbours and a roll counter.
did it ever occur to anyone that now that there is a keyboard and mouse capabilities that someone should port an fps to the transformer?
I would love an app/widget that monitored the battery of both the Transformer and the keyboard dock. It's almost impossible to tell how much juice is left in the keyboard. If someone knows of an app/widget or a built-in way to do that, please let me know.
Edit: I would also love to see a folder app that integrates data from the Market, so if I download a game, it automatically adds it to the Games folder, etc.

Eye-Fi for Android
I'd like to see a version of the EyeFi manager/control center for Android
still hunting for the torrent app to work with private torrents
alternate keyboard
since the dock is still in short supply it would be nice to have the ability to use my android phone as a keyboard/trackpad for my transformer through bluetooth or something. the entire screen could be a landscape keyboard that you could swipe down to access trackpad.
Hey Everybody,
I've been trying to find any/all decent games and apps for my transformer and I'm curious if anyone has any interesting input. I'll go over what I'm looking for and my opinions on apps that I already know about, and I'd be interested in reading anybody else doing the same.
For games.. I never played any games on my android phone, wasn't really interested. I've checked out a few on my tablet though:
- Pocket Legends MMO: I'd definitely say this game is better for a tablet than it would be for a mobile. I've already uninstalled as I'm not interested in an mmo for my tablet, but it does run well and there seems to be a fair amount of people playing.
- Armored strike: This game plays like worms/scorched earth but it isn't fantastic in my opinion. It does represent one type of game that I'd be interested in getting though. I notice worms is available on the market, when I search the market on my desktop.. Didnt see it on the market when I searched from my tablet. Haven't tried that yet, its a paid game, and only 3 stars released in april 2011. This type of game, with online play, is something I would like to see.
- Shadow era: This is a CCG like magic the gathering. I installed it on my phone but wouldn't play it on that screen size. Doesn't seem to run on the tablet unfortunately. A CCG like magic the gathering is another game I would like to see on my tablet.
- Galaxy on fire 2: I saw a video of a xoom tablet running this game at a CES-like event, but the market says it will only run on xperia. Shame, it looked like it'd be worth a try. Games using the accelerometer for steering are neat, but that cant be all there is to the game for it to be worth getting.
- Angry Birds: Lets get this game out of the way, despite its popularity I have little to no interest. It's hardly revolutionary. Games like worms/armored strike/scorched earth are better. In birds you modify trajectory but not firing power. Its too simplistic/boring.
Thats enough for games. I'd be particularily interested in anything which gives options for keyboard controls, but I don't suspect there's much of that out yet.
Some app opinions:
- Google Earth: I wish this was good, but there's no added functionality that you don't get from google maps. In fact, in google maps, you can add your google account's mymaps as a layer, in google earth you cannot. (Let alone edit your account's mymaps) There used to be an app called google mymaps editor, but google took it off the market. I use google earth a lot for work, and having some means of saving waypoints and building paths in between waypoints is something I would really like to see on my tablet. I work for a wireless ISP and we mark wireless base stations, paths in between, and paths to customer sites etc using google earth on desktop.
- Thinking space: This is a mind mapping app for android which you can use to create/modify/view freemind mind maps on your android device. It's probably the app that has seen the most benefit from a tablet sized screen size that I can think of. Definitely worth getting for anybody thats interested in making mind maps for any purpose, it's more powerful than freemind on desktop, particularily on a transformer with keyboard.
- Pocket cloud: Remote desktop apps in general should see improved usabilty on tablets, but this is the one that I own personally.
This is all I've got worth mentioning. Pretty sparse, but hey thats why I'm asking around right? Any/all input quite welcome.

So what do you all like to run on your phone?
I'll kickstart it off with some things I use, tell me what you like so I can see what i'm missing!
-File Expert - Free - Geek Software Technology Inc.
-Dual File Manager XT - Free - Medieval Software
-Root Explorer - Paid - Speed Software
File expert I keep for the FTP/web server capabilities. I use it or Root explorer back and forth. I like Root explorer better, I couldn't edit the keylayout file with File Expert. Dual file manager makes it so easy to copy things around I keep using it - call me lazy on that one but it works well.
-Android Terminal Emulator - Free - Jack Palevich
-Absolute System (Root Tools) - Paid - canvs2321
Fantastic suite of tools for use after root.
-Android Music - Free - JRTStudio
I love it more then other music players, call me old fashioned but i'm just used to this one. Simple, easy, no extra BS to worry about.
-Mobo Player - Free - Mobo Team
Simple, easy to use, and supports .avi files amongst others. My favorite video player.
-Realcalc -Free/Paid - Quartic Software
Superior calculator. I use the donate version - the doubleshot stock calculator is garbage, I was not very happy with it. I'd already been using this one before getting the doubleshot, so swapped it right in.
-ezPDF Reader - Paid - Unidocs Inc.
-Scan to PDF - Paid - Nym Computing
-Open Signal Maps - Free - Staircase 3, Inc.
This one shows me all the cell towers I connect to, and maps them out for me. Other handy stuff in it, it works well and I use it all the time.
-XDA Premium - you should probably have this by now if you're reading this here.
What are you all playing with?
I'll add to this list:
SweetHome Image Upload - kinda like Google+ Instant Upload for pictures, except it uploads to my local PC instead of into the Google+ cloud, as soon as I connect to my home network.
Tasker - great app to automate almost anything
RemoteLauncher - Allows you to launch programs on your PC remotely from your phone, I use this in combination with Tasker to automate things, ie. when I'm connected to my home network, I trigger the Windows Start Menu, so that my monitor will wake up from sleep mode. This way, I don't have to move the mouse or start typing on my keyboard to get my monitor to wake up (yes, I know, I'm lazy).
XBMC Remote - if you aren't already using XBMC (www.xbmc.org) to play/browse your media, stop reading this, download it now, and thank me later! XBMC is the slickest media centre software I've seen, and the official remote app for Android is pretty nice too.
If you came to this thread from the bloat removal thread, then here are my suggestions: (some from my first post above, again, but with links this time. I'm tired of typing now and don't feel like editing it at the moment.)
1 - Stock Browser = Opera Mobile
2 - Stock Gallery App = Gallery3D - I really like the version of this app found in the Nook Color (encore) version of CM7 (latest stable release)
3 - Stock Notes App = ColorNote
4 - Stock Polaris Office = Documents to Go 3.0 + Paid Unlock ( expensive, I know, but worth it - I do a ton of office stuff for work on this phone, and this app is fantastic. You may want to keep the stock office app. )
5 - Stock Music Player = Android Music
6 - Stock Calculator = Realcalc - not even a question here. Donate is worth it to me, because I do a lot of conversions. Free version is awesome too.
I am pissed about the stock calculator app we get on this device. This is an expensive phone, practically the best piece of hardware money can buy, and our stock calculator doesn't even fit the numbers on the buttons right...really? WTF HTC - bad, bad form. (Alternatively, IF you replace it right, the stock app from the encore version of CM7 is pretty awesome - simple, elegant, fits the screen very nicely.)
Elixer is the only thing you'll need if you're missing any of the widgets you lost in dropping the sense launcher - really. Fantastic app.
and last but not least Digitally Imported is more up my alley as far as radio goes, especially when i'm sitting around on the computer. It's just continuous mellow background noise...but the radio thing is all a matter of personal taste anyways.
So what do the rest of you have to say as far as apps for this thing?
My eyes have been opened to Opera Mobile, now a must have on my phone.
I guess besides that, I don't really have any apps I absolutely need on my phone.
As for the calculator, Algeo is pretty awesome.
New list, see post #33
What about games? I'm on the bus a lot so it would be nice to have something that I can pass the time with.
Homerun Battle...best game ever!
Sweet. Anything else? All I have so far is Robo Defense and Pocket Soccer. I'm not used to having games on my phone hahaha
I just got this game called third blade today.. It's pretty awesome so far.

Wow been missing out on Opera Mobile!
How does Opera Mobile compare to Dolphin HD?
Games?
If you like tower defense...
In the pre-selected path way of playing:
Sentinel 3 just came out on Android. The sentinel 1 & 2 games on my iPod Touch were simply amazing, and were the one thing I missed the most when it broke.
Now that the game dev. ported it to Android, and brought a whole new version, there's really no other tower defense game that can top it. Our device really makes it shine, because of the TV out. If you play this game through your device on a TV, you will be blown away.
I've been playing it for a few days now, and it's freakin' amazing. Everything I missed and so much more.
Also, GRave Defense HD is a great tower defense game. It was the best one of this type on the market until Sentinel was ported. ( In my opinion...)
In the open-field type of play:
Robo Defense as mentioned above is pretty good, and Fieldrunners HD isn't bad either.
Still think Sentinel is the cream of the crop, though.
For games, generally:
Samurai 2 is absolutely fantastic, and has been updated to work with the sensation, which is basically our phone. Great game, plays well on the phone, looks and plays like a console game when hooked up to the TV off the phone.
I've had people call me a liar to my face that the game was playing on the TV through my phone, even though they were watching me do it - it's that good.
Guerrilla Bob is a pretty fun game, and a good one to waste time on. It's well made and good fun, also on a half off sale right now so probably a good time to pick it up.
The two games by Mika Mobile are good too:
Zombieville USA is a side-scroller where you just shoot up a whole bunch of zombies. If you liked Guerrilla Bob, then you'll like this one too.
Battleheart is a pretty nicely done RPG type game, take a look at it if this kind of game is fun for you.
Also, some old favorites:
Jet Car Stunts is an old favorite, i'm sure everyone knows what this is by now...if not click the link and come out of your cave! lol...
Minisquadronand Minisquadron Special Edition are two old favorites of mine as well. Side-scrolling plane combat, with lots of planes to unlock and play with.
That should be a couple to get you started with, there are some others I play that I haven't listed yet - fighting for time on-line right now with all the stuff I have to get done off-line. I'll post up more when I get a chance.
try Pocket Legends, pretty rad

Not sure, honestly never looked. If you can't find it it probably doesn't exist.
Edit: http://www.origin8.com/android/sentinel3/ Here's the developers website about the game, might help you in deciding if you want it or not.
I knew the developers previous games - part 1 and 2 were my hands-down favorite games way back when on my iPod touch. I really, really wanted this game ported to android, and as soon as I saw it I just purchased it. Didn't read any reviews, or anything - just click, buy, play.
Game play is awesome, the difficulty levels are scaled right, and you get to choose from a whole mess of weapons to play with, shipboard weapons that can be used from an orbiting spacecraft (that's the limit of your interaction with it)...and a commander 'mech that you can move to specific points in the battlefield to help your cause.
'Mech can be upgraded between levels as the game progresses, and it has both campaign and 'endless' modes for each map.
Weapons can be upgraded to a few different levels in each combat scenario, and as you unlock things progressing through the campaign mode you really get some firepower to play with.
Very visually appealing game, and i've been playing it in any spare few minutes I can whip out my phone and go at it. Haven't had any force closes, discovered any bugs, or anything. Very well done.
Oh, and if you hit the home key or just exit the game, it saves right where you were when you left the app. Next time you run the game you can pick up right where you left off - perfect. You can just quit the game and do something else with your phone immediately or put it away and not lose any progress.
Remember, though, that this is a pre-path type tower defense game. That means the waves of enemies can only travel over specific areas of the map. Something like Fieldrunners or RoboDefense is a different type of game, where the whole map is a potential path for the enemies.
If you like tower defense games, and thought GRave Defense was a decent game, you'll be blown away by how awesome this one is. Grave Defense is the same type of pre-path tower defense game, so it's a good one to look at to kind of get a feel for what Sentinel is like.
If you were gonna burn $2 in the android market somewhere, and you like tower defense games, this is a good place to do it. You may end up hating the game, and if so i'm sorry. Try the free version of GRave Defense, and if you can get into it, take it to a whole other level with Sentinel.
In case you couldn't tell, this is my favorite android game. Lots of re-play value...especially with the endless modes.
Now if I could only find a port of my second favorite game from apples store, Alive-4-Ever...
+1 on Sentinel3...thanks for the recommendation Blue6IX, I agree with you, this game is by far the best playing and looking tower defense game I've tried..
Robotek is a great game.
Root Explorer is a must have.
Go SMS Pro
Since this is media phone I definitely recommend PicSay. Fun, fun, fun!

I second PicSay, i've had a lot of fun with that one.
Toonpaint is fun to play with too - but don't expect it to work on every, or even most, pictures. After you play with it for a little while you'll figure out what pictures will probably convert, and how to take pictures that will convert well.
Toonpaint takes a lot of playing with it to get the results to come out good, so don't get it unless you have a high level of patience.
It's fun though, and if you play with PicSay, Toonpaint goes hand-in-hand to turn life into a comic. Toonpaint to generate the comic frame, and PicSay to put the word/thought bubbles into place.
Pho.to Lab is another fun one to play with, i've had a lot of fun with it and it's about the same ease of use as PicSay.

I pretty much just use google reader since it just updated itself.
I use fbreader. Handles the formats I want (epub) and allowed me to add both the Project Gutenberg and Baen free book catalogs, giving me a vast source of free reading material.

I always just use Google's Play Books app - particularly since I switched to ICS, as it does look great and perform very well. It's a minor thing but even the page transitions are really slick. Having a night mode to invert to colours is very handy (almost necessary if you're reading at night). When I get an Android tablet in future it'll be good to know that all my books are synced across all devices, plus you can also read your books in the browser since the Play rebrand.
I use Moon reader+, wide range of books in store available for free
Everyone could have different opinion on apps. I think best way to find out is to read reviews and ratings and check the pictures provided with the app to see whether it suits your likings. Another way is to try it. Most of the apps come in free versions. I personally like to stick with "original" apps.
I used many readers, but Moon Reader+ fits me most. I like its interface.
I strongly recommend the software Ireader, it is very good
kinde good
First things first: check to make sure apps are even available, let alone working, in your country. If you're outside of the USA, it's pretty much a free for all, e.g. Google Books isn't available in Malaysia. So you could have the app, but then you'd have to get your books from somewhere else.
I'm using Moon Reader on my Android phone. This app is good for Epub format. For pdf format i'm using Adobe reader.
On my Linux Fedora i have Calibre book reader. I recommend
Just wondering from a utility ("widgets", battery meters, other things specific to Windows RT) standpoint, what are y'all installing?
Not a utility but I am loving the Netflix app they done a top job with it
Its hard to find anything decent. Its seriously amazing how absoulutely awful some of the selection is. One of the highes rated apps in Music is....
Krishna Aarti
Overview: "This is a beautiful app which gives the feeling of being close to Lord Krishna, a great music in teh background set the ambience for personally the Shringer for the Lord."
Seriously Microsoft SERIOUSLY!!!!!
With all their billions they couldn't have thrown a few dollars toward a few small programmers. They couldn't have gotten some of their own programmers off their butts and sent them over to look at apps like MX Player Pro or Poweramp for android and have their programmers come up with something comparable. They couldn't search for the top apps in each category on android and iOS and hire some small developers to come up with good alternatives.
Micro$$ couldn't get just a couple good apps in each category?
I swear its as if the only thing that mattered to them was the number of apps at launch - if its 10,000 fart apps at launch that's just fine.
OK rant over.
Its really slim pickings overall. I've got Netflix installed. Kindle. Evernote. Pin-a-Note. Multimedia 8. Sticky Notes 8. Gtasks HD and toolbox for Windows 8 installed that's it - mostly becaused I've felt obligated to install something.
Hope this all picks up. I've been checking the app market ever day sometimes a couple of times per day. It seems like they add maybe 3 or 4 apps a day overall - pretty bad so far.
Edit:
OK had to do this. My appologies in advance.

All my storage pro is my favorite -paid version. Manages all your cloud storage acts and local in one place and can move stuff between them. Found it when looking for dropbox access.
I have a different take on the matter -I think app selection is going fine and more will come as win 8 gets going more. Here is a very interesting article on the matter:

Good article. Have you noticed that there are no desktop style apps? I'm wondering if the reason there is an app shortage is Microsoft.
The article points out how hard it can be to make productivity apps in Metro. But why haven't any existing desktop apps been re-compiled for RT? Where are the VLC media players for desktop?
Perhaps the lack of software is Microsofts own fault. I wonder if they even allow third party desktop apps? If one submits a desktop version of your video or music player for RT does it get denied?
If so, then Microsoft has just committed suicide. If they provide a desktop environment for RT but prevent all the existing desktop software from using it, then what is the point? It exists just for office? Microsoft themselves couldn't come up with a Metro version of office. So why would they limit developers to Metro only?
Suppose, for example, Intuit decides to re-compile their entire Quicken Suite of apps for RT. Do they then get denied because it doesn't have a metro interface?
So I ask again - why are there no desktop apps for RT?

i don't think you're allowed to deploy a desktop style app for ARM, it has to be a "metro" style app, so some new UI is necessary, no quick recompile and post to the store.
apps will come, it's just going to take a little time.
some of my favs are:
jetpack joyride
netflix
evernote
fliptoast
metrotwit
inrix
newegg
trackseries
smartglass
kindle
angry birds space
wordament
A few that haven't been mentioned:
OneNote, Woot Attack, Zentomi Reader, the metro Remote Desktop app, Blu Graphing Calculator (if you're a student especially, but it's my favorite calculator for any purpose at the moment, not just graphing), Trackage, 8Zip (which will be even better when they get RAR support), LastPass, Simply Authenticator, Youtube+, ComicsJolt, Fhotoroom.
Freda is the best epub reader so far, but isn't great yet.
IM+ is a necessity for me as well, but like on every other platform I've used IM+ on, it's not a great app.
I really do need an MKV app myself, but I'm hoping that come soon enough. There's one for Windows 8, just not on ARM yet.

It seems like they add maybe 3 or 4 apps a day overall - pretty bad so far.

I agree that the app situation isn't exactly amazing, but they have been adding 50-100 every weekday so far.

Where are you getting these numbers - I've been checking each category, with newest apps listed first and at most I usually see one or two new apps in each category - is there someone (website) keeping track of the additions?

Search for * and you'll see everything, often even before it shows up under the "New Releases" section. Don't get me wrong though, most of them are still garbage.
Sooo, I just tried Jetpack Joyride. I wonder how this performs on Android tabs, but on the Surface RT it's playable, but far from fluent, especially when you get faster. It's quite a nice game, but Microsoft really needs to optimize here, as I think the hardware in the Surface RT is certainly good enough to get good performace, WinRT just has its quirks (at least up to now).
Well, I got 12 days left to try out, hope things change till then.

Great tip thanks - thats exactly what I was looking for - now I can keep a running total of change per day - think I'll make myself a chart with the number at say 7:00 PM every day and see how fast the market is growing.

WINAPPUPDATE.COM is the best place to learn about app counts and new apps. check out his twitter account.
News Bento and Tweetro are my two most used apps. Lazyworm is also bringing Metrotube to RT...and if Tweetro is any indication...its going to be beautiful. Tumbukum (Tumblr) and Cracked.com are really nice as well.

Most of the apps out right now have obviously been rushed out for early adopters and are far from optimized, that isn't going to change in 12 days. In a few months things will look better and I think in a year the store will have most of the useful apps that are popular on iTunes and the Android Market.
We really need a pdf writer / printer of some sort to make the surface a true business device. I searched "pdf" in the store but no hits. I also think the store is not really optimized for searching by keywords unless the search term is in the name of the app or somewhat obvious.

Right now the only thing you can do is convert pdf's in Office and work with it that way, hopefully a better solution will become available soon.
