Best Email App w/ Search Function and Compatiable w/ Exchange - T-Mobile LG G2x

I keep on reading mixed reviews on K-9 and its exchange issues, but I really want to be able to search my inbox (that was key on my bb). Any suggestions?

+1 Touchdown is wonderful.

Another vote for Touchdown. I love it.

Touchdown is AWESOME...

The exchange application that comes with G2X is very good. It is better than the Vibrant exchange app. If you haven't tried the exchange app that comes with Vanilla G2X, give it a shot.

Looking for a good email app

What is the best email app out there. I currently use the stock email app and have tried k9mail but I don't like the way either of these deal with folders. I would like to find an email client that can actually work with folders. Any suggestions?

I personally like the pure series thats available in the market it allows you to combine your sms, email and gmail all on one widget with options for skins and such. Also allows for manual and automatic refresh I like it alot been using it for several months. good dev support etc.

Gmail is the best by far
What I was looking for was an email program that had better nested folder access more like you have on the iPhone. I gave up my iPhone for the Hero but their email program had much better folder control.
I use Gmail. Once you understand how to use labels to mark your mail folders are no longer relevant.

Gmail won't do exchange though, will it? I have the stock mail app set to 'as items arrive', and I seem to remember the gmail app won't do that (admittedly I haven't played with that app in awhile).
Googles Labels are very similar to Folders, once you understand them. Take a look at this:
http://lifehacker.com/5513040/gmail-adds-nested-labels-sneak-peek-to-labs
Also, with Gmail on my Hero, if I have Gmail open on the browser on my laptop, I can actually see the emails come in faster on the phone, and then within 30 seconds on the laptop.
I would say, give it a try, set up an account and see what happens.

I have used Touchdown for Exchange and it does support Push email if your exchange server does. It isn't too bad, and there is a trial in the market.

Well my goal would be to be able to use one app for gmail and exchange. Right now I'm using k9 for gmail (I hate the gmail app and don't really like the stock mail app either) and stock for exchange.
I'm looking for a good email widget for CM7 RC2. I just synced my work exchange account with my phone and tried K9 but it was giving me an IO Error (no idea what that mean). I've tried looking for any type of widget, but not really finding anything good. You guys have any suggestions?
Have you tried K9 mail?

Exchange by touchdown app Reg

Guys
I have just installed the "exchange by Touchdown" app. and I found it very very useful to access my corporate webmail. My question is should I buy this for $20 or will Froyo's advanced exchange features will be able to provide me with this capability ?

Which functionality specifically?
I purchased touch down back in the days of cupcake. Back then the stock app wasn't very reliable with my setup, plus there were a couple of features touchdown added that i could not live without.
I have since switched back to the stock app because (at least in cyanogenmod) you can now set a signature in the stock email app (biggest reason i used touchdown before, sadly). there are a few things I miss about touchdown from the stock app tho, ie ability to move emails to folders (I'm rather ocd about sorting my e-mail).
Other things off the top of my head that touchdown offers over stock - ability to sync tasks (stock does email, calendar, and contacts only currently), the widgets (if you are into that sort of thing) and more flexibility with scheduling on demand/peak times etc.
Boils down to what you really need from your e-mail app. If you can live without those things, stick with stock, otherwise get touchdown.
I find touchdown doesn't handle external html email very well (meaning emails from other people not at my work).
it could be the way my work does exchange - using OWA, but the stock (especially the 2.1/2.2 versions) does a far far better job.
Check out Moxier Mail, flawless corporate email contact and calendar sync. Its 24.99 and IMHO worth every penny
The 2.2 Exchange support is still lacking in some settings/features. I run the Desire rom for now and pretty much get everything I need with that.
The touchdown is supposed to have a great deal of support for Exchange compared to everything else.
If it was like $3, I would maybe buy it...otherwise, stock Desire exchange support is good.
2.2 is still a bit wanky on the features/options....didn't like at flashed back to Desire personally.
I bought touchdown a long time ago and continue to use it. he updates it often and is really good when contacting him with questions. the stock app still doesn't compare to me, still lacking features.

the default email app in the tab is good enough. i don't know about k9 mail. you're trying to which email provider?
Moxier Mail or Touchdown are the best for exchange on android. They're not free though.
Never did work for me either. The only reason I wanted a replacement of the native Email client was the inability of the native client to word wrap the long lines properly (or none at all). So all those branded company emails eventually appear so tiny and unreadable unless you zoom them in. K-9 never worked because our company server has Exchange 2010. I'm going to try Moxier Mail, and let's see if that works ( or works better)
Moxier mail wraps text perfectly on my phone. Haven't tried it with the Tab but I'm sure it'll be fine.
Well, I end up using Touchdown..so far, it has been good, at least I can copy and paste...thanks to all the input..

Sorry to revive a slightly old thread, but this is relevant
K-9 is real close to having exchange 2010 functionality. (I'm to new to post a link to the google code repository for proof)
I enjoy Enhanced Email. Its real good.
You should really REALLY try the default email app on Gingerbread. Judging by your signature, you are still using your tab on Froyo.
The eMail client that comes with Gingerbread on the tab is far superior to the initial one that came with the tab. To be specific, inline images load faster, you can respond to meeting requests and it feels a lot more responsive.
The zoom problem is not fixed, but in my experience it happens less than it used to. This is subjective as I may receive far fewer messages that cause this behavior, but I'm just saying... give it a try, it won't hurt.
Cheers,
C.
But it doesn't show html emails.
Mine does show all emails, HTML and plain text alike, including embedded interactive objects such as flash. It actually uses the same browser webkit as Chrome, though it has some performance issues in this respect (not as smooth as the browser IMHO).
PS: inline images cannot be placed inside plain text emails (I make references to such objects in my previous post) :-D

Anyone know if K-9 is now real real close to having exchange 2010 functionality? K-9 seems to be the 'defacto' email support option for smartwatches, so I might use it just to grab emails for a smartwatch.

[Q] Is the email app really this bad? Might have to return my Xoom

Firstly, let me say that I really like the Xoom, so please don't accuse me of trolling.
But I can't believe how poor the email app is. I set it up with my Exchange server and there are 3 issues.
1. Folders are flattened out. Not too big of a deal, I could probably live with it.
2. No IRM support. Sort of a problem, I *might* be able to live with.
3. This is the big one: replies don't quote enough headers and so all the context in an email thread is lost. I seriously can't believe that a modern email app would be this pathetic. All it shows is "foo <[email protected]> wrote:" and then the quoted text. No sent time, no other recipients, no subject... SERIOUSLY? How on earth can Google or Motorola or whoever think that this would not be needed, especially for an ENTERPRISE email scenario like Exchange?
I'm hoping I am missing something. I tried K-9 but it doesn't support Exchange 2010. I know there are other clients I could buy but if I had to pay extra for an email client just to get usable email support I will probably just return the tablet.
Extremely disappointing. Maybe I am missing something?
There are a bunch of email apps in the market. Try another one that suits your needs.

Though it is an old article, I don't think iPhone supports it either BBos 6 MIGHT
Use Touchdown. UI is not pretty but I think it would cover your needs.
Another vote here for Touchdown. It is definetly not very pretty but I use it on my phones and now on my Xoom. It provides really great integration with exchange and Active Sync. Its one of the only ways you can get tasks synced to a mobile device. I will say that I have been switching back to the honeycomb email client recently just because it looks sloop much nicer though

I know you would like the stock client to better suite your needs but thats where the term "there's an app for that" came from. Try Touchdown, it should be what you're looking for.

Yes you are missing something. When you purchase Windows 7 it comes with Windows Live Mail. While WLM probably handles e-mail better than the native google mail client in honeycomb I would imagine that it would not synch your exchange mail store and you would end up purchasing Outlook 2010 or a similar exchange compatible client.
In this regard, I feel like the client while missing a couple features that it *should* have is still good enough.
If you want a full featured exchange client for your android, I would recommend looking at Touchdown or K9.

Nice analogy.
great feedback and suggestions all. I tried tiuchdown and agree it would'probably serve my needs.
Ultimately though I decided I can create some browser favorites and use OWA. Glad I can keep my Xoom!

Is it possible to use a different mail apk?

There are few ROMs I like, but their AOSP e-mail clients don't do it for me. Is it possible to use an HTC mail client on non-Sense ROMs like MIUI and CM? If not, are there any e-mail client options for these ROMs?
I'm referring to--I'm not sure how to say it--"real" clients, not like K9 or other third-party ones. Specifically, I'm looking to use the same e-mail app for Exchange/Corp. e-mail and POP, and I want to be able to BCC myself automatically on all POP mail. I don't want to use one client for Exchange and another for POP.
Thanks.
I'm guessing you like name brands

Thanks. I did check out k9 and Touchdown. Touchdown is a very well done application. It not only syncs e-mail, contacts, and calendar, but also Exchange tasks. I just played with it for a few hours. The only drawback for me is that it does not support POP, so I'd have to used a different client for POP. K9 is just the opposite--it supports POP well, but does Exchange very poorly (really not at all). The search continues...
Thank you OP. GOOOOD question.
The sense mail syncs up all my mail accounts Exchange, pop, etc. good, and all in one place. I will miss that if I go custom rom? Oh me no likey that...sorry to the "named brands" guy but I actually use my phone for all the schnizzle it's advertised to do and to actually do sh*t". I also checked out out K9 and Touchdown and went back to stock for the same reasons you cite.

Don't let the OP's comments throw you off - based on what he said, he's looking for an unusual feature (automatic bcc). The stock email application in AOSP-type ROMs (cm7, Gingerbeast, etc) works just fine for many people. It supports multiple accounts, it works with POP, IMAP and all versions of Exchange (most mail apps on the Market don't work with Exchange 2010) and has the option of viewing all of your email accounts in one unified inbox with color coding. If you want a spiffier version of the stock AOSP mail program, Enhanced Email on the Market has a few more features.

This is correct, but I wouldn't classify auto-BCC as unusually: iPhone does it. More Inspire ROMs do it. Blackberry does it. Windows mobile does it.
The reason I want it is so I have a record on all my outbound email on my laptop (which is regularly backed up). I have a rule set up in Outlook so that when the bcc emails come in, they are moved to a "Sent from PDA" folder. Works great...

OK this is good to know. The main thing for me is a unified box that supports POP, IMAP, and Exchange 2007. I actually have auto BCC turned on at the moment thinking it was a good idea...but I find it extremely annoying and can likely get by without it :-o. Good discussion thanks!

You misunderstood - when I said "unusual feature" I meant it's somewhat unusual for people to want to automatically bcc themselves on all their email. Yes I'm aware this is a configurable option in many email clients. I think it was left off the AOSP client because all of the popular POP/IMAP email services (Gmail, Yahoo, AOL, Windows Live, etc) all have configurable settings to automatically store all emails, even sent ones, so that automatic bcc isn't necessary. The auto bcc feature would only be needed for people using something like an ISP email. But I realize this is still a large group of people, so the auto bcc would definitely be a nice feature I suppose. So now that I think about it, maybe more people would like to have this feature than I originally realized. :shrugs:
