I do on my Captivate that I just rooted but when I reboot into recovery I do not have an option "to flash zip from sd card"
please help
Yes, I am rooted. I have made a back up is my current Rom, I have backed up my data, may contacts, mt apps, and the data for the apps....umm do I have to worry about a radio...when I'm done installing the Rom will my phone still make calls???
When I install cyangen will I be upgraded to gingerbread.....

Yes your good to go bro, just go in to rom manager and flash latest clockwork recovery(top button) then hit button that says reboot in recovery. Once there delete cache partition, and system settings. Scroll down to advanced and wipe the dalvik cache. Go back and select install zip from sd. Choose the location you placed your rom and yes to flash. Your done all your apps, and phone numbers are backed up by google so when your phone gets booted up it will automaticlly restore them. Also don't be to concerned at the moment with flashing a new radio just yet....its not hard, but baby steps for now bro. PM me if you need help.
And yes you will be on GB. On the first boot dont freak when the phone gets stuck on the boot animation for a while. Anytime you load a new rom your first boot take what seems like forever. After first boot before you start playing with your new baby do a second boot.

After going through the NV flash process and getting to the last step that says
Keep holding them, as soon as you see "ANDROID" in Green with the new boot logo let go of the buttons.
From there it goes into boot recovery. I then choose from one of the roms I have on my SD card, it loads okay but then when I try to reboot it hangs up on the LG logo again
What am I doing wrong
we def need more info then that like what recovery how did u install the rom did u wipe data then cache then dalvik? then install rom and gapps? did u install any kernels previously? and this is probably going to get moved it should be in general

Damn. for one month on XDA you sure do have a lot of posts
On topic: I'm assuming you forgot to fully wipe before flashing the new rom.
If you can get into recovery, it's not bricked.
Read the install directions, you missed a step or got a bad download.. Or a bad build, as they are nightlys...
In recovery, do factory reset, then mounts and storage, select format system. Then install the rom.
Also, get the stock nandroid and put it on your card so you can drop to a known good setup.
I had back it up using rom manager but its on another computer. I took had gotten a SD card with more storage and never transferred it.

You could copy the backup from your computer and make a folder called clockworkmod/backup/ on your new SD and put the backup file in that folder. When you go into recovery, backup and restore. restore - it should be visible. Select it and you should be OK - IF your backup is good.
If not, download a ROM and Gapps with your computer and put them in the root of your SD. Then after a full wipe, flash them.
If you have the latest Recovery, you can mount storage and then cut and past to your device while connected. If not, or if you have any problems moving them, just take it out and do it while it is plugged in your computer.
You have several options - so one of them will work.

First let me say that I know all about flashing SGS and SGS2. Im a proud owner of SGS1 from day 1.
Last week I decided to finally flash my brothers i9023 so I flashed stock 4.0.3 with stock recovery. Then we wanted to flash some XDA stuff and I don't understand these guides...
I found one guide where you get superuser access with one click and usb cable, I did that, then I flashed CWM through Rom manager and flashed 4.0.4 from evilisto (v1.1) and it worked. Now I'm trying to flash some others, like nuhetri reloaded or pixel rom and I'm always getting stuck at boot animation. It just keeps "working" and nothing happens for 5+ minutes.
What am I doing wrong? Please help!

(in general)in recovery wipe data factory reset, format cache, davlik cache, system, boot. then flash new rom.
with nuhetri i think there is a bug where your not supposed to wipe data coming from another rom only davlik cache and cache then flash nuhetri

I did all these now, rebooted to recovery (from CWM) and flashed this Fully Touched:

I did all that before... Im going to redownload, maybe its corrupted but I doubt it. Is it maybe because I have locked bootloader or something? Beacause I didnt use that long guide with "android SDK" in General, but some other very quick guide. Just plug USB, enable debugging and run some script and thats it.

do yourself a favor, do it the right way the first time and save yourself headaches in the future. its not hard. fastboot oem unlock(bootloader), flash a custom recovery, flash a custom rom(and gapps) via the recovery, then boot up. thats it.
If you are more of a visual type of guy I suggest going on YouTube and search "zedomax". He has some really simple videos on how to root your nexus s, he has a couple videos on how to root but make sure its for a GSM nexus.
Simms got all in a simply way.
Unlock boot loader
Install or flash cwm
install the new stuff from SD card
reboot

Excuse my ignorance, I'm pretty new to this and I might not be of any help at all... but is it even possible to flash a custom recovery without unlocking the bootloader on the Nexus S?
I followed the instructions found on the NexusShacks.com website (How to root Nexus S or Nexus S 4G on ICS or Gingerbread) without any issues at all (sorry, can't post links due to low postcount :/)
No problems for me, I had zero experience with this sort of stuff but I have flashed a new ROM a every few days now without any issues whatsoever.

Perfect instructions are in the first post of the ROM thread. If you see terms you aren't familiar with, then find out what those terms mean by doing research. If you do that, i know you can get it
If it's already rooted, go to the play store and download rom manager. Then make a backup of your rom.
Then here on xda search for 4ext touch recovery and install that. It will make flashing easier. (Rom manager also has the touch option, never used it)
Once you have done that, download the rom you want and make sure where it is saved.
Go into rom manager or anywhere where it says restart in recovery.
Once in recovery, click on wipe format or something like that.
There are four things you need to wipe.
-wipe data/factory reset (I always forget the name of it-it's the first one)
-wipe cache
-wipe dalvik
-wipe all partitions (except sd card)
Once you are finished, hit the back button. Search for install from sd card, then search for the rom you downloaded.
When finished, hit the back button, reboot. First boot usually takes a while. 5-10 minutes.
BUT - before you do any of this, read read read several different threads. Cause if you don't know how to do this and if you mess something up, you won't know how to repair it.

If you get 4EXT from the play store, you don't even need ROM Manager. 4EXT can do all the same stuff, and it's better anyway.
If you were able to root your phone with the hack kit, you'll have no problem flashing ROMs. It's much simpler than rooting. Just do a little research to get yourself familiar with the process and you'll be fine.
Basically if anything goes wrong, the worst case senario is usually just to go back into recovery, wipe and reflash the rom.
But then again, DO NOT try anything before thoroughly researching/understanding what you're doing, thats how you break stuff...

No, CM is not compatible with rom manager. Please take time to read the threads the devs open for their rom...While it may install you might have issues due to bad installation....do it once as it should and you will enjoy a great rom.

Hi everyone, Im relatively new to the whole flashing and custom rom scene. I rooted my wind mobile (Canadian carrier) LG-P999 and ran CMR before trying to flash EGB. I used the instructions on the forum post to install EGB. In the installation process however, It looked like Gapps were already installed, I installed the Gapps I was told to download here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1575199 again anyways. My phone will now not start, all that happens when I press the power button is the LG logo flashes, and then the Eaglesblood logo flashes then the phone shuts down. I have the CWM recovery file saved on my computer. Can someone help me unbrick my phone? thanks in advance, and please excuse my horrible grammar, I'm quite terrified right now.
EDIT: I messed around with my phone, and I am able to get into the Android System Recovery. Should I wipe data/factory reset? Will that solve my issues?
First get the rom you want to install on a sd card boot into recovery and wipe and install. If you factory reset it still will try and load eaglesblood. If using a cm 7 rom like eb or hellfire flash gapps right after the rom. Hope this helps

Anytime you flash rom, I recommend these steps. (Some may argue that it's over kill)
Get a Copy of Titanium Backup Pro.apk
Batch back-up all your user apps if you so wish. (These first two are optional, but I highly recommend)
Copy ROM, Kernel, and Gapps to MicroSD card. (EXTERNAL)
Boot into CWM.
Do a Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache partition
select advanced-->wipe dalvik cache
mounts and storage-->format /system
Install zip from sdcard (not the apply update option!)
select your ROM, flash
select you kernel, flash,
<optional, if your on March BB and depending on ROM, you may need to flash new baseband.zip, forum search for it)
select gapps, flash
Reboot!
Sometimes upon booting you made need to wait 5-10min for phone to come up and be speedy. Be patient.
Hope some of this helps since your able to boot into CWM, which means your not bricked, yet. I;ve been there in a loop, called it soft bricked. Performed all of the above steps, never had the problem occur since. I jump between two GB 2.3.7 ROMS and two ICS ROMs with ease.
I need help stuck in error message.

Ok Heres what it did
(Phone already rooted)
I Downloaded and Flashed a Custom Rom from goo. manager (Samsung Galaxy S III (Verizon) CyanogenMod - d2vzw / cm-10.1.2-d2vzw.zip) and The gapps that came along with it.
Also downloaded Ez unlock to unlock my boot loader. (unlocked the boot loader)
Phone was successfully flashed with the new CyanogenMod, everything booted up fine. But when the phone starts to setup, i get an error message saying: Unfortunately, the process com.process.gapps has stopped.
i click ok and it keeps popping up.
Also between that error message I get another error message saying: Unfortunately, Setup Wizard has Stopped.
Can't access any part of the phone. Just stuck in the error message loop.
I do however have access to the recovery mode options that let you Install, wipe backup restore, mount, settings, advanced, reboot.
PLEASE HELP
You flashed the wrong gapps. Just boot into recovery, wipe, flash only the rom, then find the correct gapps, download them, boot back into recovery, flash new gapps, reboot system and you should be good to go.:good:

What is the correct gapps for rootbox 4.x and why is flashing gapps necessary? Should the wipes be done before the gapps or after?
I had the same problem as hesbordofallofus and managed to get back into TWRP and flash my old 4.1.1 rom. I'd like to check out a 4.2.2 or 4.3 vanilla rom. Clean rom 5.5.1 works well but uses battery up fast.

and what is "The right way" ? i only used goo manager because i have a mac and it's a little bit more difficult to flash a samsung Device with a macbook pro.
The problem with goo manager is that, obviously there's a chance you're going to flash the wrong gapps. I don't use clockwork mod recovery because when I rooted my phone with CASUAL it installed TWRP. But, I assume they both work the same way. When you flash files from recovery, you have to manually download the rom and gapps packages from their respective servers so as long as you've done the reading and the quadruple checking, you will flash the correct files for YOU'RE phone. Learning how to boot into recovery manually, using the three button combo is a very important part of flashing roms. And getting comfortable moving around in whatever recovery you're using makes it less likely that you will make a fatal mistake.
I probably spend an hour or two reading in my phones' forum everyday. I want to make sure I understand how to do what I'm doing properly and have a plan for when things go wrong. So read, read, read!!!!!

the gapps package is necessary because the package is a set of apps like the Play Store, Gmail, and other google apps. You can't sign into you're Google account without Gaaps. The process is always this:
1: wipe Data+ Cache
2. Install ROM (updater-script in ROM zip wipes system for u)
3. Flash PROPER GAAPS
4. Reboot
Remember "System" is essentially your Operating system. So don't wipe that manually unless you have a nandroid or a ROM zip as a backup. There is really no need to wipe system manually in Recovery because a the updater-script in a ROM zip always erases system for u. Just worry about formatting data manually before flashing ROM. Also remember when you flash a Gaaps package it gets installed to your system partition NOT Data. Just some info for you. Remember if you don't know how to do something ASK!! nobody is stupid here and no questions are dumb. If it keeps you from bricking your device then ask. Also READ READ READ! Always make sure you know what you r flashing and that it is meant for your device. The last thing you want to do is to flash a kernel or ROM made for a different version of ur device.

I'm not sure what you mean by manually formatting data. I'm also not really sure what you mean when you say don't manually wipe. My personal opinion is, when in doubt follow the dev's instructions. So for instance, when I decided on PACMAN, I went to the dev's page, scrolled down to the links to the downloads, grabbed that, then used link to the gapps, grabbed those, and usually right under the links, there's a brief set of directions for installing the rom/gapps. I always just do what they say. It's become a routine for me to research, pick a rom, grab the files, make as sure as humanly possible I've got them correct, make a fresh nandroid, then proceed.
When I say manually wipe I mean going into the wipe menu in recovery and choosing wipe data etc

So the reason I couldn't get all my apps (I could see them) or get into playstore, log onto google find my contacts, etc. is that I didn't flash the gapps. BIG QUESTION: how do I know which gapps to flash? (BTW I dropped back to cleanrom 5.5.1 and it works fine but I can't send texts. I receive but can't send.) If I could I'd give it a rest and do my real work.
Usually the dev posts the Gaaps package you need in the OP if their thread or on their site.
