Anybody fimiliar with mybackup app!! - HTC Inspire 4G

My root attempt failed.
Anyway I trying to get my phone back up and running. I have the stock setting back and attempting to restore from mybackup pro. When it goes to restore it displays each app saying, can not restore apk files because of the phone setting and can not restore app that are not from the market.
Well all my apps are from the market so any idea what to do next? It shows my backup file it just doesn't load it because of my setting which I can not change. My file shows all my apps as a apk file.

It's not going to restore apps like that unless you're rooted and have sideloading capability.
If the phone is telling you it can't restore apps that aren't from the market, and all of your apps are from the market, then there isn't a problem, in itself...
It's where those market apps are at when you're trying to restore them that's the problem. Even though you originally got them from the market, mybackup is trying to pull them from your SD card. Unless you're rooted with sideloading, the phone considers any .apk that isn't directly installed from the market to be an "unknown source," and blocks it.
If you previously chose to have the phone backup your apps and settings via Google, market would reinstall the apps for you. If not, you're going to have to manually redownload them from the market, based on the list you can see in mybackup/from what you remember you had installed.

Just great, here goes hours of fun!!!! Now I am determine to root.
Thanks

Just thinking I do have the side loader wonder machine and have installed apk files (swype) using it. Can I go into my SD card some how and grab the files that way. I am needing some of the data that I have in some of my apps.
For example, I use the "keeper" to store my personal info and account numbers. I need to retrieve this info along with a few others!!!

Well, I'm not familiar with that app, but it depends on how it stores it's data.
If it has some kind of mechanism for storing your data remotely, like on some server or something, and would auto sync your data in a similar fashion to how Google does it with contacts, then that would work.
If it had some kind of export function to put your stuff in a separate file that you could retrieve later...
Otherwise, I don't know what to tell you, because if it wasn't one of the above two scenarios, chances are the app stores your data in a private database, in a special area of the phone that is inaccessible to any other app on an unrooted phone.
If this is the case, though it appeared mybackup was doing what you wanted it to, it wasn't doing EXACTLY what you wanted it to... It was backing up the apps themselves, the .apks, but not the data that corresponds to them.
It's confusing and a bit misleading for someone new to all of this Android customization stuff.... I got burned the same way the first time I rooted.
You kind of have to root before you start initially filling your phone with data. Once you root though, you CAN use mybackup pro to backup apps + data. I own the app myself. It's capable of doing it, it just needs root access first.
Hope you get it worked out...

No problem.
Nothing beats a good old text file on the computer with your passwords as a backup. (In a password protected zip file or something).

Titanium vs MyBackupPro

OK, I'm getting ready to buy a backup app...
Which one should I go with? From my testing with the free versions, Titanium doesn't do anything and MBP works. (I'm sure this is user error, Titanium wouldn't get the love it does if it only backed up what I've been able to back up with it.)
Why all the love for Titanium? When I try the free version from the market, all it wants to do is back up "Country, Language, Time Zone" and "Wi-Fi Access Points". Kinda useless. It tells me it read all my app data, but those two options are just settings. I'm not seeing a way to back up any apps at all. The amount of time it spends backing up also indicates it's not doing much.
On the other hand, the version of My Backup that I'm testing does a good job with backing up my apps and restoring them, along with their associated data.
I see Titanium getting all this love, so I KNOW I'm missing something.
What exactly is it that I'm missing?
Did you click "Problems?" and install busybox directly from Titanium first?
Also, when you buy Titanium the hypershell makes restoring apps nice and easy as it automates it completely. I don't know if MyBackupPro does this.

Yep, I did that. From what I've read it downloads it's own busybox and doesn't interfere with the one the rest of the system uses, so I automatically do that each time I install it.
I just had the same problem with TB. I figured it's cause of my A2SD. But, I want and tried the trial of MBP and it works great. I may just buy that one.
I just installed MyBackup and I tried to back up my apps but I get an error that says "Error during Backup: Error opening DB". Anyone know why I'm getting that error?
Edit: Nevermind, got it working.
Yes you got that error message because you were probably connected to you PC via USB and your SD card was mounted so your phone was unable to read it, just so you know!

The donate version of Titanium Backup is awesome! I could not go on without it!
When using Titanium to backup apps will they show up in the market as 'my downloads' once re-installed?
I've used Astro to backup apps and unfortunately, they don't show up in the 'my downloads' when re-installed to the phone after switching over to new ROMs that require complete wipe. So knowing when an update is out for the app is a bit of a hassle.
**Edit**
found a review online that says the downloads will show up in the market with titanium. Might give it a try.
i use sprite backup and it works great!
titanium (free) didn't restore my market links to show up in downloads. using latest version and all of my backed up apps show smiley+M

Yeah, the market links are only available with the donate version. Considering I only use about Four apps on a regular basis I might not be getting the paid and just re-download the apps if I ever do a wipe. Google backs up pretty much everything else and there is a free text backup app available in the market that gets the job done.

[Q] Need Some Help with An EVO back up

First want to say hi. I want to backup my evo since im replacing it with a newer evo since there is a problem with mine its hardware problem. but any way is there a way i can completly take everything from my current phone to new one Apps photos settings launcher pro(paid)im getting the phone tom they called todayso plz help me out plz try and keep it simple if possible
First you should be aware that all of your paid apps are permanently tied to the Google account that you used / created when you first set up the phone. This means that as long as you use the same credentials when setting up the new EVO you will find all off your purchased apps waiting for you in the market.
Second know that most of your personal data is stored on the SD card as opposed to the phone memory itself. If you reuse the same card you will likely find your data is waiting code you without using a backup restore utility.
Despite the above I am a fervent devotee to backing up and use several apps in tandem. I you only have one I think Titanium Backup is the way to go. My Backup Pro another alternative. These will backup and restore all of your apps with data so it is like you never lost a beat. They will even restore desktop layout and call logs or text messages.
My last advice is to get the free app called dropbox. T give you 2 gigs of online storage which get linked to a special folder on your phone. Put a file in the folder and it will get uploaded into your web vault. From there you can access the files from your PC as well.

[Q] Confused: Titanium Pro Question

Had to get warranty replacement Charge today. Had original since debut. (they didn't have re-furb, wanted to send me one, told them I was leaving town and they gave me bran new one !!)
I am rooted, using EE4dxvodo_DXC. I had used free version of Titanium in the past and deleted several appz. I decided to purchase pro so I could freeze appz this time. Installd free, paid for pro and it installed it. I now open Titanium and it only shows the overview screen. There are no tabs to where I can get to the apps on the phone. I click the change profile button and it says 'functin not available on older Charg ROMS' ??
The free version worked just fine with same Odin on last phone. Is there something I am missing here?
Thanx in advance for any help.

is the sd card the same? I thought TiBu saves settings/data to a folder on the sd card
I have a copy of that folder on my desktop, yes. I restored the sd card to basic stock before turning in the phone, not wanting them to know it had been rooted. That's not the point however:
When you open Titanium, there is a tab where it will display all apps on the phone and give you the option of deleting or freezing them. If you try to freeze them with the free version, it tells you that option is only available with the pro version.
Now when I open Titanium, none of that is accessible. It only gives a single overview page of ram status and such. There is no way to get to any other pages within Titanium to manipulate the appz.
The phone is rooted successfully, Open Garden Wifi tether gets granted superuser permissions and super user gives the option to allow/deny permissions. Titanium doesn't seem to be working and I was wondering if anyone else had run into this issue.
I was even rooted with the same ROM on the old phone ...

is it the most up to date version? could've been a bad download perhaps? I've never heard of that happening with Tibu, paid or free
I have had tibu do that before. But a reboot seem to fix it.

*shrug* ... it ain't workin' that's for sure ... I un-installed tibu and re-installed it; made sure superuser had lastest binary; tibu is getting SU permissions, but no apps list is available in tibu, only an overview page.
Though this is the same ROM I was rooted under on other phone before the swap and it worked fine. Not running any kernel with it just straight forward EE4dxvodo_DXC

[Q] Switch to Skyrocket from GS2?

Now that people have had the device for a few days, I was hoping their to headstart could help potential switchers and as the SR doesn't have it's own forum yet so I'm asking here.
Newbie alert!!!!
I am wondering how easy it will be to move from the Gs2 to the skyrocket? Basically any recommended ways of moving my apps, texts, pictures, etc to the SdCARD and back from the SdCard to the new phone? Contacts are synced with Google Contacts so no problems there, my main concern is with paid apps, I'd rather not pay for them again.
Can I back up apps via TiBU and restore them on the Skyrocket? Or can I just reinstall them on the new phone?
End of Newbie question!!!!
Paid apps are in your google account as well, you will be able to reinstall all your paid apps through the market (without repaying) by just signing in to your same google account.
The only thing you need to backup is your pictures/music.
Here's what I did to migrate to my Skyrocket from my Captivate:
*Duh Alert* Have your original phone rooted and Titanium Pro installed.
Original Phone
1. Backup APK & Data with Titanium.
2. Locate where backup directory is on your phone. Mine was \sdcard\TitaniumBackup
3. Mount original phone and copy backup directory to your computer.
New Hotness
1. Root that bad boy. Search the site, its here.
2. Install Titanium Pro from market.
3. Back up 1 app, pick something silly. That will create the backup directory.
4. Mount the new hotness and copy your saved directory from your computer to the Skyrocket.
5. Restore apps. I did one at a time cuz I didn't want everything installed on the new phone.
95% of the apps and data restored properly.
Simplistic, yes....but it works. Go forth and multiply.
If you want the smoothest experience on your Skyrocket, do NOT use a backup tool to bring over apps, just reinstall them from the Market.
Copying apps and app date with a tool like Titanium does and WILL cause some issues.

To partially agree with you I tried using MyBackUp Pro and almost everything failed. That's what I deserve for buying that one first back in the day. BUT....Titanium worked great. All of my paid apps were as good as gold.
Plus, if you want your saved data, wouldn't you have to use a backup tool?

If your just trying to backup like game saves then sometimes. A lot of times that data can be backed up by just mounting your sdcard to your computer and copying the files. Some games do save the data in funny locations so you do need (easier) to use something like Titanium, but you are always better off starting from as scratch as possible to avoid issues later.
Moving an app to save you from entering your login info for example, is just a bad idea. Most apps have no real data to backup, simple 2 second settings etc....

i have found that most issues with TiBu are do to you trying to restore System Information......i used tibu to restore my apps on the Skyrockert. i just picked APPS only with out system data.
worked fine i have not seen a hickup on any device or install after a flash of new Rom.

TiBu works great, usually, for restoring NON-System apps and their data.
Avoid restoring system apps/data.
Also, if you do happen to run into a problem with a particular restored app, all you need to do is uninstall/reinstall it and then use TiBu to restore the "data only" for that app.
This has always worked for me.
y?
Its basically the same phone, screen tiny bit bigger and it edges r round, and the. 3 faster CPU is not noticeable, and if u don't live in the handful of citys that have lte network what's the point by the time LTE gets fully activated skyrocket will be old phone something way better out, now if u didn't have the gs2 already if say hell ya but since u do wasted money IMO

Where Does Titanium Backup Backup To??

On my TMobile G2x I backed up all my downloaded apps (21 of them). The backup was successful. But in the Batch>Restore I see nowhere where there are 21 apps to restore.. Were the heck does Titanium Backup back these up to? I want them together so I can restore all at once if I do a Factory Data Reset.
James
It normally backs things up to a folder in your sd card called "titaniumbackup".... I think..

U can't restore from its location (they have it backed up as some files that can be read by titanium backup only)
Just install titanium backup from play store after you do the data reset. Then go to the app and restore
Ps - the folder must be on external SD card. As wiping data is gonna wipe internal memory too and u ll lose the backup.
Titaniumbackup folder in internal sd folder or you choose it from settings. You cant restore them manually because as somebody said above they are archived in someway only titanium backup reads them.
I'm not trying to restore them manually.
My goal is to be able to go into Titanium and be able to see my backed up downloaded apps, and only my backed up downloaded apps. I did back them up, there are 20 of them. But, when I go into Batch>Restore I see no area where there are only 20 apps. When I tap run I'm faced with all the other system apps, that I backed up, and I need to uncheck the ones I don't want to.
I find this aspect of Titanium Backup very confusing.
It's like trying to shoot pool with a rope.
James
You need to set filter on Backup/Restore tab to show only User applications. Tap on "Click to edit filters" label.
Have no idea what's wrong with Titanium, now. When I go into Batch it showing 0 for every category. Seems Titanium has no idea I have any apps?? If I filter for all I get the list of my apps but there's a triangle icon with an exclamation on it on every app, system and user.
I don't get it.
Triangle means that there are no backups yet for selected apps
Something was wrong with Titanium Backup.
I uninstalled it and reinstalled it now it's and no it's finding the backups that I had already made. Including my 21 downloaded apps that I backed up. They show in the restore, now, in the User aps.
All is well,
James
Remember you will always have them in google play store (my apps section) assuming they were downloaded from google play store.
I always/frequently send my backups to cloud storage.. for any unforeseen circumstances I lose my apps, then I can at anytime grab them from my cloud..

Is there any other backup out there that works???

This is what I'm trying to avoid. I'm trying to restore these apps without having to depend upon Google or Cloud. I have turned off syncing with Google. I guess I'm a bit paranoid.
Any way. I uninstalled and reinstalled Titanium Backup and got my apps restored. Problem is it restored some apps I no longer use but must have backed them up in the past.
Will these User backups be in the TitaniumBackup folder? If so, and I delete all the backups there and do another users app backup this eill remove the apps I don't I\use and hence they wont be restored??
These might seem like dumb questions but I'm new to this stuff.

I still don't get it!
In the Backup section of Batch... one item is "Backup all user apps" (17 user apps)
I then ran it successfully.
Now, shouldn't there be an item in the Restore section "Restore all user apps" with a total of 17 apps??
There is none.
Now, I realize I'm new to this stuff but Can anyone suggest another backup app. 'cause I believe Titanium Backup sucks.
And apparently one here has any solutions.
You're correct in stating that user apps should also show in the restore section..
In the main overview screen do all user apps show.? And do they have yellow icon next to them showing they have been backed up..
If you have pro version with unlock key, email dev/support with your problem..
To be honest with you and most xda users will agree that TB is one there most stable, reliable & one of the most needed root app..
Try using (ROM Toolbox pro/free) as good as if not better, you'll love the user interface ..
Sent from my blazing SGS I9000 using Tapatalk 2
All my user apps show up. 2 of them have a yellow smiley face next to them. All the other have green and yellow icon with what I believe to be a face. I have backed up all my user apps at least twice today hoping to see these in the restore area. I checked again and now they're there! The user apps are now showing up ion the Restore. Why they weren't there all day and all of a sudden pop up I don't know. It's not that I needed a reboot 'cause I did that right after backing up.
Maybe I should scan my phone for a virus.
I'm sorry 'bout putting the product down, it's just very frustrating. It's not the product it's me. Some of this stuff is over my head.
I'll check out your suggestion for the backup app.
I did, however find a couple of apps that seem pretty good:
App Backup and Restore
App Quarantine to freeze apps.
I have no desire to flash a new rom (if that' the proper term)
I simply want it easy to backup and restore my user apps and the freeze some apps I don't use.
Freezing can be done very easily with TB..
But once you get to good with this app, trust me it will be yet most valuable need app for you

I am kinda having this problem
I have a similiar problem. But with mine is I changed the ext back up folder to a specific one, but for whatever reason titanium saves back ups to the default folder where i have other back ups.
but when i look at my apps itll say 0 bakups because the new folder i chose is empty. even though it saved them in the old folder for whatever reason.
When i switch it back to the default folder then itll recognize that i have the new backups. even though i didnt tell it to save them there.
This is what I wanted to know:
Internal storage\storage\emulated\legacy\TitaniumBackup
Is where app backups are saved.
