[Q] Desire S tx9 problem - HTC Desire S

This is so annoying with the DS or maybe its just me.
If I am writing an sms message the desire s xt9 will predict the word 'the' as 'vie' instead..yes I know its minor, and the 2nd xt9 prediction is 'the' but when anyone writes an sms they wld expect the 1st choice not to be the word 'vie'...and when Im writing sms' quickly and look at what Ive written, I have mispelt the several times due to the xt9 mis-predictor!
I have tried settings, editing personal dictionary but its not in there...how can I rectify this and delete vie from the dictionary please?

That's strange. What are your locale settings?

Thanks for the quick response...my locale settings are English (United Kingdom).
When I write sms messages I like to use the phonepad as opposed to qwerty keyboard...and with xt9 on if i try and type 'the' then the first green highlighted word is 'vie' as default, then 'the', 'tie' and 'vid' as further options...so naturally if i try to type 'the' followed by a space then the default input is 'vie'...i cannot oversetimate how annoying this is ...it happens all vie time lol
many thanks

winmobile: removing some *default* t9 words

Hello,
I have windoze mobile 6.1 on an htc touch diamond. I have the xt9 program that lets me add/remove custom t9 words with ease. It works as expected.
The problem I am having is with the default words in the t9 dictionary before adding/removing my custom ones. I want to remove some default t9 words to make typing words I do actually want to be faster.
Ex: its very annoying when i try to spell 'dont' but end up with 'font'. why would it possibly think id want to say font more than dont?
so I'd like to remove the word font completely, as well as other words which do this to me or make the t9 take longer finding the word I actually want because a useless word is in the way.
Information/instructions on how to do this would be very much so appreciated!
Thank you!
-Ji
I've never seen this discussed before or a solution for doing it.
BTW, the word is "don't", not "dont". Try pressing 36618.
arr. i guess ill just have to deal with it for now. thanks though.

HTC_IME: My spelling is fine, please stop korrecting it!

I'm using HTC_IME V19 and cannot get the keyboard to stop (erroneously) correcting words I enter. I have Prediction on and Spell Correction off. Nevertheless whenever I type a word that isn't in the dictionary the keyboard automatically "corrects" it. It changes it to whatever the closest dictionary match is.
Every version of HTC_IME I've used has this problem. Any ways to fix it? Maybe a setting I've missed? I want prediction to remain, but I'd be happy if the IME never again changes what I type. Thanks.
No need to start your own thread.

........ you can disable this by going into the HTC IME settings, Prediction & dictionary, and untick all items with "Accept" in front of it:
Accept with space, Accept by separator, Accept by symbol key
...
i use HTC IME v25 and it works just fine
Thanks Prettyboy, but I'm not sure which of that thread's 170+ pages addresses this issue.
DarkDvr and mykenyc: Boy o' boy... nothing gets by you guys, except maybe the occasional joke.
Popophobia: I have Spell Correction unchecked. It is not selected. Yet it continues to correct the spelling. How is that user error?

[Q] How to switch off spell check (xt9) on ChaCha

I'm using polish language on my chacha. When i write sms i see in notification bar information that xt9 En is enabled. So that everything i write in polish is underlined. I just hate it. Is there any possibility to remove that spell checking? or somehow use polish one? there is no configuration for this under menus i guess. Or I'm just serching in wrong one ;/
i'm on 1.52 with s-off and @fullbring_v2_eu
go to settings -> language & keyboard -> touch input -> hardware keyboard settings -> prediction (un-check this option)
Nah, i'm not talking about text prediction.
What i mean is that i have prediction off but english spellcheck is on underlining my polish words, as they don't exist in english dictionary. And under menu you mentioned, there is no option to disable it, or change dict language.
Yea, im having similar issue. Im using EU global rom.
Until today my language for typing messages was "Eng" (when you start typing message you will see small square on right side in notification bar, next to clock saying "Eng") and i was typing normally, without any issues.
Today i had OTA update of my ChaCha and my typing settings changed to "Eng xT9." Since im using Serbian language to type my messages it pointless to say that my every word gets underlined in red as incorrect word since it was not in english dictionary.
Its pretty much annoying to see your complete message underlined in red, and its lowering visibility of letters. Is there any way to disable "xt9" or change to normal "Eng?"
I found semi-solution. I installed Smart Keyboard from market and used it as default input method, and disabled all predictions spell corrections etc. it is not showing up with touch buttons and running in background so you can use your hardware keyboard as usuall.
hope it helped
I have the same problem, Azerty hardware keyboard and my language is installed in Dutch really annoying that every word is underlined!
so i have this problem too...i am coming from austria and we are using the htc chachas frequently for email checking and answering...
is there any solution now to solve this problem...i have also showing up the xt9 EN logo on the notification bar and i can't get away the red underline on each word.
i am using 1.54 with S-OFF
Can you guys perform a small check?
Set your phone's language to your country and start typing again. I have a hunch that xt9 is activated automatically by the ROM in the phone's language.

nope, already tried this...
switched from german (doesn't matter if i choose austrian, german or swiss version) to english and back again....
i think only in the original s-on country locked 1.18 version was a spellcheck for german, this was also the only version which hast the right qwertz keyboard.
now with cid 1111111 and original 1.54 there is no qwertz keyboard (even if i choose german language) and also no german spellcheck...
ok i can deactivate the dictionary funktion, but the spellcheck which underlines every word in red, i can't....
can you find out, which file does this spellcheck, so i just can delete it or do whatever it takes, to stop working.... i don't want a german spellcheck or a dictionary, i just want it to stop underlining f#####g words P
Is this available on the stock ROM?
Menu -> Settings -> Locale and text -> keypad -> XT9 [ ]
Tick XT9 for predictive text. Then go into XT9 advanced settings and fiddle about. There are tick boxes for Spell correction and so on.

no xt9 mentioned
I have the same problem
Alex, i don't have that section under settings..
running 1.52
HEUREKAAAA... i have the solution
it couldn't be easier...i am so dumb, really...!
to change the language of xt9 from EN to any other (in my case DE) just press FN + Spacebar to open a menu, where you an choose the XT9 language...
now i do not have anymore red underlines when i am typing an email or any other text in german...yihaaa!!!
update: now the dictionary is also in the right language...awesome-oooo
update2: for all those people who have keylayout problems after s-off and thinking this could ix it....it won't...this is for spellcheck and dictionary only...the keylayout files have to be edited by hand like we know it
OMG, and i pressed that combination so many times by mistake, but i exited it immediately. anyway, no help for me there, romanian not provided :lol

[Q] The single&double quote key on the dock not working? -and a bit on accented chars

[Q] The single&double quote key on the dock not working? -and a bit on accented chars
Yesterday I did a factory reset on my TF700 (JB 4.1.1). Today I was typing and found that the single/double quote key was not working on my dock keyboard. My settings where Asus Dutch Keyboard. When I switch to Asus English Keyboard or the Android Dutch or English keyboard the key is working. When I use the screen keyboard with the Asus Dutch keyboard setting I can also type a ".
So it is only when I use the dock keyboard that it is not working. Maybe somebody can shed some light on the issue?
Another question on the docking keyboard. Is there a way to type symbol like ê or ë etc on the docking keyboard?
Edit:
Both issues have been fixed in the 10.4.4.23 firmware update. The double quote key is working again and a accented character can be typed for instance by typing a ["] and an [e] in sequence. Unfortunately this is not working when typing in a browser. But in the email app it is working.

Well, you found out the issue yourself: it is dependent on the type of underlying ASUS keyboard you choose. Well-known by now, to be honest, but your issue is right there.

Couldn't find it on the forum that's why I raised the question. Probably my bad search skills Thanx for answering. Now it's waiting for Asus to fix this.
Eh? It worked in .18.. I specifically remember the @ and " keys being fixed in it.. Dafuq Asus?
Why not just use the US keyboard? All keyboards in the Netherlands have been the US QWERTY keyboard since well before the turn of the millenium. The old original Dutch keyboard became redundant decades ago.
(I don't think we've ever used it to begin with. We're too busy running after the US.. Which for once i'm glad for, as the original NL keyboard was crap.)

The Asus Dutch Keyboard is not the keyboard you are refering to. Which is in fact ancient and I only saw one back in the 90s. The ASUS Dutch Keyboard used to be the same as the Asus English (US) keyboard except the input language is set to Dutch so it does Dutch spelling check. But you got me thinking because the keyboard I use it listed as ASUS Dutch (Holland) keyboard. Maybe it should be ASUS Dutch (US) keyboard.
But I don't know how to change this setting. Anybody can help out?
Ah. I always thought the spellcheck was related to the system language? Since you set Spell checker under Language, and not Keyboard & Input. (Suggestive typing drove me to near insanity, so I turned it off...) (I only type in English and my system language is set to UK English, so I never noticed whether the spellcheck is related to the keyboard or not.)
There used to be a Holland and US variant... Where the hell did that go? (I can't find it either.)
Yes, I think the spell check language is the system language (by default, and I have found no other way to change it). Accented letters have never worked for me on this device, although others did report that on the German language default, they actually had them working. Now I think of this, I tried setting the tab's language to "Deutsch (Deutschland)" and indeed, I have accented letters! They do not correspond to the keys, however, so you're going to have a hard time typing this way. For example, the " ' " key gives an "ä".

Sorry I've to disagree on the spell checking being reliant on system language only. I've configured my system language as English and set the Spell Checker setting to ᷰ'Use system language' . Then when I go to the mail program and choose 'Asus English (US) keyboard' spell checking is in English. But when I change to 'Asus Dutch (Holland) Keyboard', spell checking is in Dutch.

Well, no matter what my selected keyboard is, if I select German as the system language I get the accented letters. *That* *was* your question, right? I can't remember you talking about the spell check, so it is not that relevant. You wanted accented letters, now you get them but you cannot type. In other words: soft keyboard for you, if need be.
EDIT: deep in the settings there turns out to be an option to bind the spell checker to a specific language, or system default. AFAIK, it shouldn't change when you simply select another keyboard when on the system default language option, but then it would not exactly be the first time that ASUS-injected stuff does funky things.

My original question was on the quote key not working when selecting Asus Dutch AND on international characters. The spell checking was introduced when ShadowLea was wondering why I wanted to use the Asus Dutch keyboard. I know I can set the language to German for accented characters but like you said totally unusable when using the dock keyboard. But I can live with the accented characters not working. But the quote key not working is a big pain in the ass. Like I said before I wait for Asus to fix this.

Hey, no offence meant. OT: the funny thing is that on CleanROM the quote/double qoute key is working fine for me (English/US system language). Have you tweaked anything else on your device?
EDIT: I do sometimes run into the accented letter issue, and then I am very annoyed. Trying to type something like "fiancée" or "René" causes me headaches every time. I have given it some thought just printing the ASCII code list.

No offence taken. I have a stock Tf700, no tweaking yet. And on a stock rom the quote key is also working on Asus English keyboard/US system language. It's when I switch to Asus Dutch Keyboard it stops working and just inserts a space when pressed. I read on another forum what people using the Asus Potugese keyboard run into the same problems. So I guess there are more input languages that suffer the same problem.
Printing the Ascii list ... back to the days of word perfect
The workaround I found is pressing the little keyboard icon next to the docking icon in the notification bar. And then turn Physical Keyboard off. Doing this one can use the docking keyboard and the screen keyboard at the same time. So whenever I have to press a double/single quote or a accented character I use the screen keyboard. And it also enables me to switch back and forth input languages using the globe key on the screen keyboard (lower left side of the screen).

Albeit at the cost of screen real estate, this does seem like a viable workaround for now. Thanks for sharing.
Ah, the Ascii list... I still have one hanging on the wall behind my monitor, just for nostalgia's sake. (and lazyness, can't be bothered to go to 'edit, insert, symbol, scroll list...' just to get º. )

It does come in handy sometimes. That being said, even the ASCII list doesn't work on the dock keyboard, so I'm SOL for now.
I updated the title of the thread so it better covers the content.
Well, for the accented characters you can use AltGR (right alt, but on the dock the only alt) + any of the letters:
ä = q
å = w
á = a
é - e
ü = y
ú = u
í = i
ó = o
ö = p
Sadly, this misses the ë. (Which really is the most accented letter in Dutch. -.- And probably the most hated in schools.)
Well, I just stumbled onto the ALT+SPACA shortcut. That might even be a saving grace for ZoldarVL. WT.... I guess I'm still not through with learning how to operate this thing.
@ShadowLea: the shortcuts you gave above are for the German lay-out, I presume? (They do not work on the English lay-out, obviously, since they never use these accented letters. How sad.)

Asus Dutch (Holland) Keyboard layout. The éáóúí work on the UK setting, none work on the US setting. (There's a boatload more signs under the dutch altgr combo, these are just the accented keys. Altgr+shift give even more)
And yes, the Alt+Space gives a symbol menu. Did I not mention that? Bugger, I thought I did...
