When I open the gallery I can see the names of albums, but no pictures. If i click on an album, I see a bunch of little squares where the pictures would be.
In a file manager I can see and open individual pictures.
Any ideas?
I think this happened once before but I don't remember what fixed it.
Try to Rebuild Thumbnails??

I remember this problem with my N1 a while back.
What worked back then was the following
1. Stop gallery. Clear data/cache of gallery.
2. Delete folder /Android/data/com.cooliris.media
3. Delete folder /DCIM/.thumbnails
4. Boot to recovery and ONLY the wipe cache
5. Reboot
6. Open gallery and it should rebuild thumbnails.
But I haven't had a thumbnail issue with gallery with my GTAB yet.
Thanks Tekrhino.
I started having so many other issues that I flashed TNT 4.2.4 and so far so good. The only thing is that the market seems pretty well populated with Stars but My Apps is missing most of them and I cannot seem to be able to get them to show.
Since the new camera update I've had a bit of problem with the 2 photo's apps - Photos and Gallery.
When I take pics I'm deleting unwanted pics using Photos. But when I go into Gallery the deleted pics are still there. Is this normal?
What default app are you guys using for pics?
This is probably caused by a sync from Photos.
I use QuickPic app for a while.

Are they there in the actual files that you can delete? Or are they in instant upload (in gallery app)
This is why I would like to stick to just one gallery app, but I prefer photos. Unfortunately, I cant set contact photos with "Photos"
EDIT - Also, I would recommend getting used to the photos app, as I have, as Google is looking to make this the default gallery app IMO
These are pics I have taken with the camera. Sometimes I delete the photos straight from the camera app. Sometimes I go into Photos and delete from there. Only thing is that they remain in Gallery App.

Yeah, that makes sense. The Gallery App is whats on your SD, whereas photos is Cloud Based.
Thanks Justin.

I like Photos but I don't use it because I have Google+ disabled. So it's Gallery for me.

If you have the Photos app, opening the Photos section of the Google+ app will automatically bring you to the Photos app.
1) In the Photos app, go to the image you want to delete (or search “autobackup” in the search bar).
2) Select photos by pressing and holding the thumbnail to select; tap multiple thumbnails to select in bulk.
3) Tap the trash can icon at the top right to delete.
You’re all set; Auto Backup photos deleted!
:good:

I use photos because I think Google will soon try to update us to that rahter than gallery, plus I like the editing you can do on photos.
With that said, I still use gallery to delete photos from my SD like screenshots I dont need anymore, and to edit contact photos
So here is the deal. Any old or saved picture will not show up as a gallery in any gallery app. no thumbnails nothing. if you go to the file manager, the picture is there, you may open it up and view it in the gallery app. but as soon as you exit that view, the photo will not show up in the gallery app. If you take a picture, only that picture will show up in the gallery, thumbnail and all. all old pictures are still there, but no thumbnail. Anybody got any ideas?

Your media store might be outdated.
Try forcing the mediascanner to run by using an app from the play store. There are tons of them
sent from my amazingly awesome OnePlus One with Stereo Mod
Don't forget to hit thanks!
Also check if there's a file called ".nomedia" that stops the mediascanner from scanning that folder. If it's there just delete it.

Thank you very much.. You saved my life. There were tons of unsaved pics of my 2 month old son. I was scared to death.
How did the .nomedia file get created in the first place?
Thank you
Regards
Raghu
Glad I could help. I wouldn't really know why that file got created, perhaps some kind of bug or glitch.
From where to find .nomedia file brother. Still my photos are not getting open. Please tell me in which folder it is there. Thank a ton
Now that Samsung in their INFINITE wisdom has taken out the menu button. Can someone confirm to me how to delete photos directly from Gallery? No.. not from File Manager or 3rd party software. Just the standard Gallery App that came default. If I wanted to go through my pictures and delete certain ones, then how? I can hold down on some pics and tag/select. There is a SHARE button on there but nothing else. No editing, No rotate option, no print, no move options. NOTHING.
REALLY unhappy about this.
Please help..
When you tap and hold on the picture, above it shows three options SHARE, DELETE, MORE.
Also if you just tap and open the picture, on the bottom it shows more options as well.
This did not work. The only option I have is to share-not to delete. Very frustrating. Anybody know how??
What changes have you made to your phone. I never use the regular gallery but it is easy to use

What have you done to your phone since getting it? ROOT? Custom ROM? IF neither i'd factory reset as all those options are available on a normal S6. You can press delete on the little icon on the bottom of the picture or you can hold down on a pic and the delete option comes up.

Simply change the category top left from categories to anything else and your issue will be resolved. Not sure why delete is not an option when you are on categories.
Same problem here!!
And you press on Help, it says to tap on "delete" even though they should no there's no Delete!!! Only Favorite, Share and Editor....Very frustrating!
Do this
Close gallery then Access gallery from camera. Select camera. Then tap bottom right icon. Select album. Or gallery I think. All photos there with delete option
Deleting from Samsung Galaxy S6
Go to Gallery
In the top left hand corner it gives you options to change your gallery display to time, albums, events or categories
Tap Time
Then tap the image you want to delete
then tap the screen
there should be 4 icons on the bottom the fourth one should be delete.
Thanks! Changing from "Categories" to "Time" allowed me to delete the photos. When I was under "Categories", the delete option would not appear.

Found a solution
Go to setting. Application manager gallery clear cache force stop. It should go back to being able to delete photos.
Go to settings , storage, used space then select pictures and videos. Make sure you open with photos as you get all images. Have fun deleting
This really worked for me! I changed the Category to like ALBUMS and I was able to delete an image, Yay!!Thank you!

Click on the album where your pics are located. Click more then click edit. Select the pics or all photos then click delete. I just did it 3 times. It works.

Hey guys,
Since a couple of days I've start to notice this little 'problem' on my Samsung Galaxy S7 (Android 7.0). For some reason the camera roll is showing ALL my images (and videos) instead of just the pictures that I have taken with my phone. So, WhatsApp images/videos, screenshots, downloaded images, it's all there.
Now, I've read alot about the .nomedia 'solution' to hide/excluse certain albums from showing up in the Gallery, but I don't want that. I like my WhatsApp images/videos etc. being shown in the Gallery application, I just don't want to see them in/on my camera roll.
So, the Gallery application is working just fine, and everything is stored in (pre-located) albums ('Camera', 'Screenshots', 'Twitter' etc.). I've looked at the settings in the Gallery app, but couldn't find anything relevant that would likely be causing this problem. Same goes for the Camera application.
What can be relevant is that I am storing the pictures taken by the Camera on a SD-card.
So, I was wondering if someone could help me. Is this problem related to Nougat? My phone isn't rooted, by the way.
Many thanks in advance! ?
Same problem here... Really annoying
What do you mean by "Camera Roll"?
If you open the "Album" section of the gallery, are you saying ALL images are showing up in the "Camera" album folder? Rather than their individual folders?
Obviously if you choose the "Pictures" tab, it will show all images on the device on the same screen
The "Albums" tab should be showing them in individual folders though

With "Camera Roll" I mean the pictures that can be accessed through the Camera App - when you open the Camera App it's the circular icon placed on the bottom right of the screen (right next to the shutter/camera button).
Same problem here. When I try to look photos from camera app, it shows all photos, not just camera roll like it should

The camera roll accessed from the camera app just opens the "Pictures" tab of the gallery app, which contains every image on the phone that does not contain a .nomedia file in it's folder
Samsung would have to patch the camera app to open just the "Camera" album folder I assume
But generally you would only use that button in the camera app to view the last few shots you just took, if you want to view a specific folder, open the gallery Albums tab

Personally when I want to look at some photos on my phone, I open the gallery app, not the camera app, I use that for taking the photos...
Thanks for all the help and responses, guys! I guess I'll just have to get used to it. Maybe Samsung will patch this in the future. Who knows.
That's a pretty dumb reply, to be honest. It's a camera app. Why would you want to review every downloaded or received image through the camera app? Sure, why don't I just jump off a bridge if I don't like it? It's a ****ty function and I can't blame people for asking if there's a fix. You can keep your "eat it or die" answers to yourself if you don't fancy being helpful.
I guess the question is:
why is the gallery opened when one opens the camera in whatsapp seeing that line of pictures is very irritating.(S5 mini)
Any solution?
This is killing me. Such a silly system by Samsung.

If you don't want your WhatsApp (or any other App for that matter) images to be shown between the rest of your Gallery images, you have to install and use a File Manager, navigate to the WhatsApp images folder and 'hide' this folder. Normally you can also hide a folder by creating a new file in that folder named ' .nomedia' like noted by Detection. The WhatsApp images folder is normally located at: 'Internal Storage' (or sdcard) > 'WhatsApp' > 'Media' > 'WhatsApp Images'. This way the gallery won't show your WhatsApp images anymore but WhatsApp will still show his own images. I hope I am correct with this info and this helps some of you.
Hi guys,
I asked to add this option (open last media in camera folder when gallery is called from camera app) in this camera mod app. Maybe you could increase the importance/priority of the request showing your interest on this feature in the mod post.
I'm trying the @martin.delbi method: should be a good workaround, but you should do it for all the folders with media you have in your storage/sd without .nomedia file that you do not want to show in Gallery.
I've tried this solution and realized it's not what I actually want since other apps don't even see those folders too. How do I undo it? I've deleted the .nomedia files I created and I still can't see the album. Thanks
unable to view watsapp status in myfile folder in samsung j7 max.

I totally agree. It's ridiculous that every photo or media file is right there after you take a picture, if you downloaded something or if someone sent you something in a text or you have something risque in a totally different directory on an SD card and it's dated just before that photo, BOOM! It's right there for your mom to see next to the family pics.
Can you change the default viewer that gets activated from the camera app?
Is there another camera app that does not have this problem?
The "camera roll" or the the icon from the camera app should ONLY show recent pictures in the DCIM/camera directory. PERIOD.

You can go into Gallery, go to Albums Tab, touch the three dots, there's a Hide or Unhide Albums. You can hide most albums, except for a few including Camera, Screenshots, Downloads, and Pictures (at least on my phone). The newest picture still seems to come up in the camera circle preview pane, and shows up for a second when you click the gallery circle from the camera app, but if it's in a hidden directory disappears. If you latest media file is in the camera directory, you don't have this problem.
