has anyone had success sycing their phone with a blueray player?
i'm trying to sync my phone thru dlna to my bluray (sony bd-s570). no luck so far.
allshare not working, for from what i read BR player must be a samsung also.
i've searched the market with no success too. any help would be appreciated. thanks in adavance!
EDIT: i downloaded a sony bluray remote control app that pairs the phone with the player. under photos, the phone shows up and u can select video, music or photo. i can stream the photos over but when i go to stream a video it says none are found. maybe format issue? in that case how would i change the video format when i record videos? there is no setting i found in android.

Whenever I use gmote I can play back video on my pc, but not on my phone. The message I keep getting says "gmote is unable to find an android application to play this file type". Is this a limitation of gmote or do I need a media player with codecs for the phone? If I do need a media player what should I be using?
Thanks ahead of time
Test with .mp4 videos.
I am having the same issue on my Fascinate. Keep trying different conversions, but can't get any videos to play.
I uninstalled vplayer app now im unable to play videos on my phone through gmote. Ive installed qqplayer and meridian player but I get the "unable to find an android application to play this file type" can anyone help?
What video types are they?
its all file types. Ive tried reinstalling gmote. what would b e the best media player to install to use with gmote??
i dont think this has been addressed in another post but if it has im sorry. anyways the solution for this problem for my was installing mx player + codecs from the market. gmote streams to my phone fine now.
Is there currently a DLNA / UPNP PLAYER (going from a server to the phone.... not the other way around) for Android?
I believe the Galaxy S phones were supposed to have one? If so, did anyone extract them?
I also would like to know if something like this is available. I can play back mp3 and jpg on my Desire HD, but not video files.
My GT-I9000 Galaxy has a program called AllShare. I just use Media player 12 on my WiN7 machine and it allows me to stream to AllShare. I can play divx movies, tv series, and other videos just fine off my home wifi network.
Gmote for audio works great.
I was looking for more for the video option. I have a ton of divx / xvid on my server.
When I use astro with the smb addon..... I can search the server but then I get an error when Rockplayer tries to play it.
estrongs isn't able to let me login for some reason.
But since my NAS has dlna and upnp I'm just looking for a simple player or app that can search dlna.
I've been looking for an app of this nature for over a year. Still no luck. I would guess that the developers that would be closest to being able to get this going would be one of the video player developers such as Rockplayer or Vplayer alpha. They've already got multi format playback for videos. Now if only they could playback these formats as a stream from dlna/upnp.........
Bumping. With the release of android based tablets dnla / upnp video players are going to be a huge win.
Anyone with a good answer?
Skifta?

I agree, AllShare works great with my Samsung TV and my laptop being the server with all the video files. My laptop has ubuntu with MiniDLNA as the server. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=732005 has a link to dlna.apk (which is allshare) weird thing is all the permissions it asks for when installing :/ even wants access to SMS which i thought was weird
for video try http://www.appbrain.com/app/vlc-stream-convert/com.gmail.traveldevel.android.vlc.app with vlc on your pc
if you want only music http://www.appbrain.com/app/twonky-mobile-free/com.pv.twonkyremote works nicely with windows media player library shararing on local network
i've been searching for a good solution for a long time now. I have an ampache server setup now but its cumbersome, none of the ampache apps on android are that great.
Does twonky work over the internet?
no it doesn't but you can smoho get vlc stream and convert working over the internet
The best I have been able to come up with is using UPnP with an app called UPnPlay - in conjunction with VPlayer (which for me is working smoother than Rockplayer).
It's not dlna but it's something.

I have played with lots of different dlna players but by FAR.... the best app is called
iMediaShare - it works perfectly with windows 7/XP (windows media player). You can play music and videos that are on your pc on either your PC (using your phone as a remote control) or play them on your phone streaming them from your PC.
Also there are TV channels like Nasa or Youtube you can use your phone as a high tech tv remote.
Amazing!
P.S My frav before this was Twonk
P.P.S My frav phone browser/streamer is 'Browsix' (again AMAZING!)
P.P.P.S my title is not right sorry, it should say IMediaShare
I am not able to c movies on my phone when i try opening it i can hear only the dialogues can c the video.I have tried 3 players till noe working with no one can any1 tell wht to do???
On stock 2.1 you just have to launch media gallery, not gallery where you have your pictures but media gallery and it work, not on TV but just on the phone if your movie is as .avi or another supported format like .3gp
I have used it also but still not able to see the video but i can hear the dialogues.
Just bought a new DLNA compliant TV, and successfully got pictures from my gallery to show on the TV.
But, for the life of me, I can't figure out how to play movies. I would rather not go out and spend movie on another HTC device, so is there a way to do this directly? I was hoping for a system where I put movies on the phone and play them on the TV without having to pay additional fees.
When playing music or a movie, bring up the menu, select the SELECT PLAYER, option, if your TV and Phone are connected to your home network, you should see your TV model pop up. Select it, now you should get a pop up on your TV, enable and you should be good.
I have only been able to get the music to stream, keep getting error trying to play video on my Samsung LED TV.

Thanks for your response. It got me to thinking that I missed the obvious. So, through the gallery, I went to a video, played it, selected the player, and it appeared on the TV. BUT, it also gave me an error message that stopped the video after I tapped "OK". So, I am thinking I need some specific video app that would handle videos properly for DLNA.
Any suggestions?
From phone no, I always just stream the movies off my laptop.

Duh! I never thought about that. I want to Vuze, and the TV was connected to my home network and handled the movies just fine.
Thanks for the redirection.

Try the app Skifta it's a DLNA client/server. It works great for me. I can stream video to and from my phone to any DLNA compatible device.

wow, thanks. that's perfect.
I am looking for an app that can play both photos and videos in the same playlist from a presentation standpoint so I can hook my tablet up next to a TV and have it stream both to the TV.
Right now the Gallery can do photos and MX Player can do Videos, but I need something that can do both in the same play list. Anyone have any ideas?

So you're basically looking for a media server? I use Twonky. Check out the description, but it should match what you are looking for.
I have only once used the app to stream (via WiFi) a movie from my tablet to a TV and it worked fine. I also have Twonky running on my NAS as a permanent media server to serve all my devices that are connected to my home network.
I will look into it, but not looking to have this need to be over a server.
I am looking for something to simply play a slide show that can go from photos, to video, to photos, etc and have all the files on my tablet and not stored remotely.

I think I confused you. Twonky is just that, it runs on your tablet so the TV (or any compatible media play device) can play/display the files you allow it to access. Twonky will turn your tablet into a media server.
I was only explaining that I have used it only once on my tablet. This was to watch a video that I had on my tablet on a TV via WiFi. So I was not using a HDMI cable to hook my tablet to the TV, which is something different. In addition I tried to explain that I use Twonky for the exact same purpose at home, just not on the tablet, but on a NAS.
I see apps for Twonky Mobile, Beam, Video, etc on there. Which one should I use to display these on my tablet in a playlist/slideshow. I will be attached via HDMI.
It doesnt seem to allow me to put both a video and a photo into the same play list... is that correct?
I think what the OP is looking for is a single application that can play both audio and video content within.
Try QuickPic, its a gallery application similar to the stock Gallery, but can play video as well (says standard video on the page).
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alensw.PicFolder
If you want to create a 'playlist' of sorts, you could create a folder and put your files (pictures, video) inside of it. It should come up as a folder in QuickPic. I'm not sure about the ordering however, you'll have to play with that. Possibly alphabetical, or date modified.
Take a look at BubbleUpnp.
It's a dlna app, and the paid version lets you set up your device as a renderer or a library. Set your phone as the server/library, set your TV as the renderer, et voila...
I've tried loads of options, and this is by far the most comprehensive.
You even have the option to subscribe to a cellular based protocol...
