[Q] Can these apps be safely removed? - HTC Inspire 4G

Can I SAFELY delete the following apps as root.
Places
Reader
Calendar (using a different one)
Car Panel
Friend Stream
HTC Likes
HTC Hub
Thanks

Yes, you can delete them. If you are using Ti Backup, freeze them all and use your phone. If there are no ill side effects you can defrost them and then uninstall.

Just don't try to delete the stock messaging app. I tried that once

No, its a very dangerous procedure. Make sure you wear your fire suit and oxygen mask when doing so. If you start to hear beeping, run, run as fast as you can in the opposite direction and don't look back.

I don't use the beep method any more... I find a canary bird works much better.. if the bird drops dead.... RUN!!!

Killing an app

Ok, this is my first day with this marvelous device. I installed Tweet caster, as it was my go to twitter app on my EVO. After I installed Tweet Comb and became fascinated by it, tweet caster on the xoom just doesn't carry too far.
Right now, both are giving me notifications and it's annoying, but I don't want to uninstall caster, either. Other than a reboot, what will fix this issue? Can't you simply exit an app? Do I need an app killer? I've been told app killers are unnecessary with Android, but on my EVO I use the app killer all the time.

I don't use either app, but check the settings. You should be able to turn off notifications. In settings, apps, manage apps though you can stop an app. DO NOT USE A TASK MANAGER.
I agree that task managers that automatically kill apps are no longer required by android. However, in order to close apps easily I use an app called Active Apps, since a lot of apps tend to linger in the background. Put the widget on your desktop and it will give you a running tally of how many apps are running and allow you to opt to quit one or all of them.

I don't know if this will be easier for you, but if you have to kill an app you can also find the app in the drawer and drag it onto the "i" , which will take you to the same spot as finding the app in "settings/applications/manage applications/" then finding the app.

For what I know (which isn't that much), for that you need to have root on your phone and use adb commands or an app like Titanium Backup or other, but unless your phone is s-off, you can only have temp root at the moment, on a reboot you will loose root privileges and everything would be installed back again...
So, if you don't have s-off, you'll have to wait...
go to the dev forum & look for the fr3vo temp-root post & the post about how to disable apps.
Thanks for your replies...
I know that i need a root... Hence me saying at the start of my OP after I've rooted using Eugenes perma temp root...
I know how to delete apps and I know I need a root to do so, I just want to make sure the apps I've listed are ok to delete?

You didn't pay attention to the second part of xnifex's post, which mentioned to go to the dev section and look at the post about how to disable apps.
There is a running list in the second post of which apps people have found safe to disable.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1150805
Ok. I shall do this.
Thank-a-gen

All u have to do is temp root and download root explorer. Go to system/apps and delete whatever apks u don't want. Use task killer clear sense launcher and apps will be gone.

Individual ringtones for contacts

Does anyone know any good roms where you can set individual ringtones for contacts. I tried a few and can't seem to find one.

I have used AR-HD and I am currently using Inspired Ace and both will let you assign ringtones without any issue.

Thanks everyone. But im running cm7.1 rl and it wont let me, even when I go into edit contact.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
Try ringdroid
That is because of the contacts app, use a 3rd party to set ringtones. I use Whoisit. It controls your notifications like nothing else I have found. Well worth the money. There are a few free apps like the one newter suggested that allow you to select personal mp3 files for ringtones. Some custom roms come with an app already built in.
I'm Currently running NINJA 716 which is based on CM and i can assign custom ringtones to different contacts on using the default contacts app. When you go into a contact hit menu then options and assign a ringtone.
i also tried this on my sister cliqxt running CM7.1 RC1 and it works
To select a ringtone for an individual contact in cm7 go to view the contact hit menu and choose option there will be an option to set a ringtone there.
Sent through the power of Cthulhu!
Oh yeah. Duh. I tried hitting menu as I was in edit mode and it gave no options. Totally forgot to just select contact an hit menu. Now I can rove the other apps to save space. Thanks everyone

Keeping Music App "Ongoing"

Hi all, anyone know of a way to maintain the Play Music app as an ongoing app? If for whatever reason the app closes, you must relaunch the app to regain the quick play features in the notification pulldown.
Coming from an iPhone, this is one feature I would love to get back.
Thanks

Not really sure how to make it ongoing, but you can put the Play Music widget on one your homescreens to quickly start it from where you left off if it closes.

Try installing a music player that has a widget such as mxplayer so you can just resume the music from the home screen.

Actually I found an halfway working solution. Using Notification Toggle, I set up a shortcut to play/pause music. Unfortunately is starts/stop the last music app used so it defaults to the stock app. Have to start Play Music first in order for it to work properly. At least it works anywhere

I dont understand how HTC doesnt see an issue w/ this. I used mog and pandora and it stops multiple times during my work out. Its really annoying to have to stop, launch the app, and then hope it continues when i lock my phone again.

Facebook messenger

Is facebook messenger texting available on one s as it is available on one x. If it is how do i access it?
How long do you suspect it will take for native facebook?

120 views of people saying haha and clicking back? Anything Facebook is a wakelock inducing, time draining waste of resources. Use the web Site or, better yet, cut the cord on the data mining myspace of 2013.
Yeh I'm sorry but I like to talk to people

Too long.
But other question: How do I disable this annoying auto-rotate, even auto-rotate is off in system settings? >.<
Setting accessibility auto rotate screen unchecked
Sent from my HTC One S using xda premium
Screen rotation is already unchecked.
Then try settings display and gestures autj rotate screen
Sent from my HTC One S using xda premium
Unchecked, too. Every other app is locked, only Facebook Messenger keeps rotating...
Ask on Google play sorry I don't know
Sent from my HTC One S using xda premium
Odd, mine doesn't auto-rotate once I uncheck the box in settings. As for texting via Facebook messenger.. that was recently added wasn't it? I tried sending a message earlier and asked if I wanted via the texting app, messenger..
Lol I reinstalled messenger and now it doesn't rotate any more...

If you already have Facebook app installed, why do you want to install messenger? You can use the messenger inside the app. At least is what i do .

faster + hopefully work as messaging hub
On the other hand, i don't use Facebook messenger very often. I prefer Whatsup for faster communication.
