So I decided to make this small guide, on how to partitioning your sd card with paragon partition manager… There is many different ways, including a script an xda forum member created, and ubuntu as well.. But I assume paragon partition manager might be the best for all people who don’t know how to use Linux very much..

Or at least a wrap stick (a thread that contains many highly used threads like in the developement and hacking section under the main thread) would be useful.

Ok I resized my card using paragon my fat32 is 5gb and my EXT2 is 1.5gb. I went and tried to follow these instructions http://android-dls.com/wiki/index.php?title=Haykuro_Apps_to_SD and for some reason I am not seeing the system/xbin/busybox folder.

how many partitiosn it list for the sdcard? sometimes when you use the usb cable then tend to mess up.. try creatign the FAT32 formatign it and than rezise and make teh ext2

i am still using JF build haven't tried Haykuro builds... sicne my phone is smooth im kinda of lazy to be recofniguring not sure how that works mayeb some oen else can help you.

funny ting, my pc never reads my sd card unless its through the phone. Ive tried the card on multiple systems, and i get the same results. so im forced to modify the card while its in the phone.

A few things here:
1. Unless you're planning on downloading every app ever made, you're never going to need a ext2 partition larger than 500mb, and even that is a LOT. I tried to fill my partition and managed to squeeze over 300 apps on there before I ran out of room...then I had to painfully uninstall them all cause I didnt feel like reformatting/reflashing/restoring.
2. Make sure you're using the right version of apps-to-sd. Haykuro's latest builds can be found here. The apps-to-sd versions are linked at the very top of the page.
3. The directories you're looking for are NOT on the sd card. They are only visible on the phone through adb. If you're not familiar with adb, do a quick forum search on how to set it up.

when uiu partition via usb cable the partition tend to mess up.. and not moutn o n the phone..
what you can do is, insert the sdcard check min my computer under management and assign a letter to th sdcard so the pc will read it mount it

I been trying to format the ext2 in my SDcard with Paragon Partition Manager but it saids I can use a demo version but it will not allow me to do the ext2 it saids I have to buy the full version. could someone tell me where to get the software that will work? thanks

Hello everyone. I am branching over to XDA from Androidforums in need of more guidance.
First, let me say I HAVE searched for instruction to my post, I HAVE NOT been successful with any of my reading. I just closed three separate windows of firefox with a total of near 75 tabs, all related to apps2sd, but none giving the specific instruction I need.

My goal is to initialize and complete the process of setting up apps2sd system today.
I would like to sucessfully have this running and I cannot find any specific guide on "how to". I have however found MANY that speak about it after the fact.
So, please someone tell me what I need to do to set this up. I want apps off device and to have a "swap space (???)" set up.
Can I do this now (after having flashed custom rom) or do I need to start all over, beginning with apps2sd process first and then flashing Rom.
Detailed instructions much appreciated, or a link to appropriate thread.

You just need to partition your SD card as ext2+FAT+swap and reboot. That's all.
This will erase your SD card, so be sure you copy everything off first.
Please edit the title of this thread and take out the [ROM] prefix. This is not a ROM and the title is misleading.

EDIT: Does FreshROM 1.0 have apps2sd? I thought it only supported it if you had it on there previously.
EDIT: Never mind, I just saw this in the FreshROM apps2sd rant post - "Now with all of THAT said -- this rom officially has and supports Apps2SD. "

I tried looking for apps2sd info a while back and ran into your same dilemma. I ended up using Modaco's ROM (actually, I used the UNOFFICIAL updated modaco made by obelisk79) because it already had it on there.

Right in the recovery options there's one that says something like "Format SD card: Ext2+FAT+swap" or something like that. Choose that, then reboot.
I thought Fresh 1.0 had AppsToSD built-in. If it doesn't, this won't actually accomplish anything.

Okay, I found it. Thanks for the help. Is this the same as "swapping" b/c I heard a lot of negative press about swapping only working well for a day.

Well, I would back up your card first. Just copy everything over to your computer, format your card, reboot your phone and then copy everything back to your SD.

Yeah I found somewhere that it would obviously erase the card data. I am really trying to figure out if the apps2sd is the same as "swap" since I keep finding bad things about swapping.
Are you using apps2sd?

No, it's not the same as using swap. It works fine, don't worry about it.
AppsToSD works best with a Class 6 card, since the class 6 cards are faster.

Yes, I'm using it. I have read flipzmode's rant about why he doesn't like Apps2SD. I have had no problems with it.
When I ran it with the modaco/obelisk79 ROM it seemed to keep the phone relatively speedy, even with a ton of apps installed. I am using FreshROM 1.0 now and I ended up uninstalling a few apps because of lag.
EDIT: I am not inferring that FreshROM is any slower. I think the problem is on my end! BTW, I am using a 16G class 6 card.

Unfortunately I think mine is not a class 6, it's just an 8gig standard micro sd. (PNY brand).
Anyway, so i went in recov. mode and formatted to the ext/fat/swap partition. I reloaded my card with previous data. Is that all I need to do? is there no setting I need to monitor or adjust?
and also, will my current apps get pushed to the sd or is there a process I should follow to move them to the sd?
I just did this and it pushed my apps from what I can tell. My internal storage number went from around 90mb used to 52mb. Now my real question is if I wanted to undo this.. what kind of options/headache am I looking at ?

I think reformat is the only way back. Anyone else confirm this?

Current apps should get pushed to the SD. To make sure it's working, pull up an adb shell and do:
cd /data/app
pwd
You should see "/system/sd/app" spit back at you.

Well yeah you would certainly have to reformat. But in addition to that you would need to re-install your apps, since they would have been removed from the card.
I was reading somewhere that you can change a setting to zero which causes the hero to pull the apps back to internal storage, leaving you not needing to re-install. cAn't remember where setting is or where i found it...

Do anyone knows if there is a real advantage in creating a partition in the phone sd card, [sd-ext]?
I read that it solves this error: E:can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk1p2
(File Exists).
But, does the phone has a real gain when you format and create a new sd-ext partition?

If you have a ROM that has data2ext or app2ext then you'll notice a speed increase as well as a drop in usage on your phone's internal memory. I have a MT3GS and with data2ext I went from an 1100 in quadrant to a 1600

When you say, data2ext or app2ext, are you saying app's that can be installed in the ex-sd card?
Can I do that in cwm or there is a better way?

Data2ext and app2ext are ROM add-ons that enable you to either move the entire data partition to your sd-ext or just all of your installed apps. If you use data2ext your apps are automatically moved since they're stored in the data partition. You would flash them the same way you flash a ROM if the mods are available for your phone. Just search the forum for your phone if you want to know if you have those options.

I honestly haven't used move2sd so I'm not sure how that works. It should be a separate script like I mentioned before.
I created a new partition in clockworkmod 512mg 32mg swap.
The phone restarts, all seems ok, but when I restart again in CWM and select format sd-ext partition, it says that I don't have one.
I'm trying to find a way to fix this issue but until now nothing...
Check if you have a blocksize of 4096 (there's a command, don't know it offhand) and make sure it's actually an ext partition, it might be a different type or may be the wrong type of ext, such as ext2 when it needs ext3 or vice versa.

Honestly I have no idea. I used the parted script/command from adb to do my partitioning. Maybe try that or try converting to ext2?

I see a lot of posts that say to use RA-Recovery with sdk adb but does it works with an SGS?
I don't know honestly, you'll need to look in the SGS forum and see if a Ra recovery is posted there. Parted works with adb and can be added to any ROM regardless of recovery menu.
From what I saw Ra-recovery is not for sgs's.
I still didn't saw any posts that explains how to do a sd-ext new partition for a Samsung Galaxy S, only for HTC's and other phones.
If you happen to find anything that explains how to do this for a SGS be a friend and tell me ok?

A friend of mine has an SGS so I'll ask him and see what he's done with his. I know he rooted and flashed CM to it but i'm not sure if he did anything else like data2ext or anything like that.

Yes, I'm a newb here at xda, but not to the hacking scene. As my interests are in custom Firmware development/modification I am having to post here in General because of the 10 post limit for the Development forum portion. I hope that I may get a response here, but worried that as with most "newbie chat" type forums, they seem to get ignored.
Regardless, I have been trying to install the CM9 and CM10 to my MK802 PC thumbstick without any luck. The end result is either a bootloop with no video or a blank screen with no video output altogether.
I have been using instructions from here, but there seems to be a simple step that I am missing.
All requirements for Superuser, busybox, and smanager have been fulfilled, I am able to install CWM to do my factory resets and flashing, but I am not successful in the flashing. I'm not sure if I need to resize my system partitions, but that is something I've a feeling may affect the install. I've not seen any statements on the requirement, only that if the system partition is less than 350MB or so, to avoid flashing the gapps file, which I've followed.
I've attempted this on the FW710B, and the NEW03 image from the Rikomagic website as well.
If anyone has any ideas or can point me in the right direction to an already customized image I can flash with Livesuit, I'd appreciate it.

Well, a little bit of an update. I took the plunge and repartitioned my internal SD memory. I chose 512MB for the system, and 64MB for the swap. That may have been not enough for the swap, but this was a new test.
This particular iteration was successful. I got the CyanogenMod boot screen and everything this time. The boot took a little while, hopefully just the initial boot.
It seems that this would be a pretty big step to take, but I really can't say that I saw mention of resizing the internal memory as being required.
If anyone has suggestions as to the optimal swap and system sizes, I would appreciate it.

I believe that I used the partition tool through the recovery app that you install, but I'm beginning to wonder. CT says that you cannot resize it. I have installed the Uberoid image a few times, and that may have resized it for me in all actuality. I did notice that when I had a SD card in the machine, that the SD card was resized instead of the internal memory which threw a kink in the works. After CM9 was installed, I wasn't able to use the internal memory.
Still doing some tests though.
May have more info in a little bit.

Install the Uberoid img through live suit and format.
After it boots, check your internal storage. It should say about 1.69GB
install the recovery, and boot to it.
Do a factory reset in recovery as usual, and then install your cm9 or cm10 images(the zips).
Install the gapps and compatability zips and reboot.
That should be it.
I think that's the steps I took that were successful.
If I tried to partition it myself, I found that the internal sd would not be recognized, even after trying the format memory zip that is used to fix th ad card.

You're having trouble with the cwm install?
For that, I just installed su, updated that to the newest version, click on the i and let it check the installed version.
Install busybox and the script installer. Use the cwm 4.0.4, I believe it is, and install the recovery image to the mk802.
The recovery.img needs to be in the main memory to run the script. Once you've run both of the scripts as root by clicking the little button in the script installer, then the mk802 should boot into recovery.
If this is what you meant, then hope this clears it up.
I bought a new Kingston 32gb class10 microsdcard, because i decided to test Data2sd on my tf700.
I installed data2sd zip from recovery and when I booted up it said "Encryption unsuccessful", and I can only reset tablet.
I cant make a factory reset as it just reboots and displays "Encryption unsuccessful" again. I can go into recovery TWRP but all my files on my internal storage is gone, so I cant flash CROMI again.
So I copied the CROMI rom on my 32GB fat32 formatted card, but in TWRP console it says E: Unable to mount '/external_sdcard'
I should have never done this

Apparently you didn't partition or format your card correctly - did you use gparted?
This indeed sounds like yo uare one of the many many, many that still used MiniTool, our warnings notwithstanding. Try Gparted.
Furthermore, if you can access any other storage partition in TWRP and would like to copy your backup(s) so you can reinstall you can do so with the AROMAFile Manager found here:

Boot into recovery, flash the AFM zip file and it will start the file manager. It's a convenient option to have, but it does take a little getting used to.
I used minitool. Any gparted alternative on windows machines? I have ubuntu on my virtual machine but it cant see the internal card reader :/
TWRP couldnt recognize my Kingston 32gb, thats why it was unable to mount it. I used a old 512mb sd card and I have managed to install CROMI again. Awesome!
One thing I find confusing reading the Data2SD thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1962507)
I am confused as to whether I need 2 partitions or 1. I always transfer files between my tablet and computer via USB cable. So should I make one 32gb ext4 partition? Or make a small 8mb fat32 partition and the second as my ext4 partition?

Yeah, the latter effect is what I'm trying to stop: I was in the same situation, with the added bonus of nobody having figured out how to recover. It took me an entire evening and a lot of stress to get back my microSD card after it stopped working altogether. Once a thread gets more than, say, 300 posts you can't really blame a new reader for not going through all of them -- the OP should be updated, however, when an issue is as clearly established as this one is.
