A couple of doubts/complains about sense :/ - HTC Inspire 4G

1. Why do i have two facebook apps ? facebook and facebook for htc sense, the latter does not show up in the market, so it never updates itself?
2. When the battery level reaches 15 % the capacitive keys stop vibrating and the internet shuts off, i know this is done to save batetry, but i find it really annoying that it doesnt turn everything back on when the battery is charged
3. Do widgets take that long to load? i dont get it , the twitter widget i get but what about the music player? it always displays a song/album i was listening 20 minutes ago, i have to waitlike 4 seconds for the widget to refresh, that's something my milestone did instantly

It updates with the ROM. It is an integrated part of Sense.

You can turn these features off in Settings. I've never used them, not even once so I can't tell you about turning the features back on.

I think that is actually a fault of the widget, it does that to me as well. If you leave the screen on the widget and the screen running, it does update however. I use it in my car when running a Sense ROM.

Yup, facebook for HTC is Friend stream. It also does twitter, and with a download, linked in.

Anyone have problems with Pure Messenger refreshing?

On CM6, BTW. I have it set for 15 minute refresh, but it never seems to update that often. I don't use a task killer, and the widget is shown as running in System Panel.
It's completely random for me. Sometimes it does it on it's own, but at random intervals, sometimes have to manually refresh, sometimes I click it and it doesn't do anything, sometimes I do and it says refresh in progress but never refreshes.
This seems normal on all of the "pure" widgets. My calendar just started bugging out on me a little while ago. Its random, but annoying at the same time.

Sucks because otherwise they are great. Wish there was "Pure News" which did for HTC News widget what Pure Messenger did for Friend Stream.

Issue with Native Android Widgets

Has anyone had issues with native android widgets on the sensation? My Youtube Widget, News and Extended Control Widgets have a line running across it and sometimes they look distorted. Once i remove the widget from the screen the line disappears. This issue doesnt occur if i have the HTC Widgets on the screen.
Yeah I have this issue ... I think its the resolution of the screen is to high for native widgets I don't use them much anyway

Me too....sigh!!!!!
I just tried it on mine and I don't have any of those problems
I just tried YouTube and News widgets on my Sensation, no lines on it. Maybe 1.35 fixed it?
I noticed the same problem on my sensation, as well as my brothers. Although, it is not limited to Youtube. Today I learned that it affects the facebook widget, pulse widget, wikitube widget, and even brightness app launcher. Fortunately, the lines/digital noise go away when you remove the widget and put it back. Or, you restart your phone.

I also noticed when you remove the widget and put it back or restart your phone it goes away as well.
whew, thanks for the info. I've just got the phone less than a week ago and noticed the problem and was worried whether it's just a software issue or a hardware memory fault or something.
Hello,
Same here with many widgets including calendar and battery widgets.
Using carrier modified ROM.
Hope HTC fixes this soon and carrier also releases the update...
Here is the response from HTC
1. Remove the battery, wait for a few seconds, and then reinsert the battery.
2. Press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button, and then briefly press the POWER button.
3. Wait for the screen with the three Android images to appear, and then release the VOLUME DOWN button.
4. Press VOLUME DOWN to select FACTORY RESET, and then press the POWER button.
Note: - In the restore factory settings all your data will be lost . So before performing the hard reset please take the backup of your device.
trying right now, hope it will work from now one
I get the same "noise" on widgets from Pandora and ESPN. Possible Driver issue? Rebooting, changing the Skin, and removal - replacement of the widget clears the noise.
GOt em here too on Pandora, Google search and +. Reboot takes it away for a while but it creeps back. Damn really htc? the resolution is "too good" gotta get this stuff ironed out before releasing a device. Good thing there's root and backup capability!

[Q] Nexus S annoying problem with home screen refreshing

I am facing a rather annoying problem with the Nexus S Android 2.3.4. I two separate launchers like Go Launcer EX, and the Launcher Pro as well. The thing is that whenever I go into an app like twitter or something or even the dialer and dial a call and then go back to the main home screen, all the icons keep refreshing and then the phone jitters for about a few seconds and then its fine and doesn't do anything. I have tried using different home screen apps even the stock android one which comes with the darn phone but still the same problem.
I don't know if anyone else is having the same problem with the nexus S, but I have an HTC Desire and that phone flies when compared to the Nexus S whereas it should be the other way around. I'm getting sick of this phone. I paid premium price for this phone of $600 Australia dollars and I get this ****. Someone please help me before I chuck the phone out the window.

It sounds like you're running out of memory and the homes creen is getting dumped to run apps - thereby forcing a bit of a reload/redraw when exiting the app. You could try something like LauncherPro and select the "keep in memory" option to see if that helps.
Are you running a lot of heavy widgets or a crazy amount of background services (that are active)?

Hey,
I don't think there are alot of apps running in the background. I just counted that there are only 13 apps running in the background and I am using Go LauncherEx but I think I'm going to try and use Launcer pro now just as you suggested and see if it works. Hope it does. I don't think I'm using alot of home screen widgets as well. There might be just three of them, Facebook, Internet Usage and then the Clock, thats all. I didn't expect such things from phones which have advanced so much, plus my HTC Desire never does this.

[Q] Does your Calendar Widget often say 'Loading'?

This is one of two things that is stopping my phone from being perfect ... (first being root )
The calendar widget will often say 'Loading', more often it has ever done on any other phone... this is definitely a bug, as I have had the calendar update without it saying 'Loading', so it seems as if its constantly reloading the widget...
Please reply if you have a Calendar widget that often says 'Loading' or if you have a perfect Calendar widget that never says 'Loading' (are you out there?)
Please reply with your carrier and any branding as well....
Thanks so much.
Mine very often says "loading". I have an unbranded phone.
Mine does this as well. Even switching from the calendar screen to the next screen then right back to the calendar screen it will say loading and take a second or 2.
T-mobile
No. The only thing that loads time to time is that when I restart the phone it says Jan 24 (default date) and goes to the current date within a second or two.
I have unbranded asian version and it doesn't say loading. Friend stream widget and news widget always say loading though for 1-2 seconds.
Yes mine is always saying loading and it never is showing me my up comming events that i have in the calender (unless i have missed something in setting up)
Unbranded, unlocked from HK

You are saying that you are using the HTC Agenda widget, either the full screen agenda or the 1 X 4 agenda widget, and it doesn't say 'Loading' apart from when you first enabled the widget?
I get 'loading' on the Bookmarks widget and on the Agenda widget. Very 1990s haha.

Branded SFR France
it's the same things for me,htc calendar, bookmarks and sometimes htc mail too.
But,when you restart your device and you go on bookmarks widget,calendar,mail..
you must refresh for 2 seconds, and after it's ok for a long time....but how much exactly?
I think sense have an automatic refresh to have the latest version of contents....but when exactly?
lot of people are concerned by this, and i'm sure that nobody have a constant fix widget for a long time....
I think someone should fix this
I am on Virtuous right now and I keep getting the loading still
This is driving me mad. It seems to effect all widgets on your home screens. They do not seem to update when not in focus. I have mini info widget and it does not update until I switch to that home screen. Some thing is preventing this update. My previous EVO 4g worked fine. Must be a bug.
i realize only friend stream and calendar widget from HTC act in this manner, someone?
No one. I've given up on this and moved on to Pure Calendar Widget. Takes a bit getting used to... but once set up, I feel I prefer it over HTC agenda.

Home screen widgets freezing?

I noticed that when my phone drops down to critical i.e. 10% battery, the widgets on my home screens stop updating. Perhaps this is by design in an effort to save battery, but my problem is that even after I fully charge my phone the widgets remain frozen. I'm not running any special widgets, just a basic clock, calendar, a few toggles and battery monitor, but they all freeze just the same . . . I end up having to reboot my phone in order to get the widgets working again, which can be a pain and seems completely unnecessary.
Does anybody else have this kind of trouble? Could my completely stock/non-rooted device be experiencing issues? This is the only problem I've noticed so far with my S5 - everything else works exactly as it should.
Just a quick update: I did a factory reset and that didn't make any difference - two days later and all my home screen widgets freeze and don't start updating until I reboot the phone. List of widgets I'm using:
Fancy Widget
Switch Pro
Android Pro Widgets
BattStatt Pro
These are all widgets I've used for years without any issue, which makes me think that it involves KitKat.
Any suggestions?
I use fancy widget but haven't experienced any problems with it. Have u checked the refresh rate setting? When I put it on this phone and set it back up the refresh rate was set to refresh like every 6 hours

Thanks for the reply - no that is not it, because it affects all of my widgets and not just fancy widgets. Something odd I've noticed is that even after fancy widgets and the rest all freeze, the stock 'weather' widget still works! I've been reading a lot trying to get to the bottom of this issue, and someone on another forum mentioned the following:
"this issue occurs because kitkat has changed the way it manages background alarms. most widgets that update frequently use "alarmmanager" to trigger each update. but in kitkat, the trigger event is intentionally delayed so that android can group processes together, saving battery life and data use. so, for all those clock and weather widgets, the developers have to write a bunch of new code for kitkat devices, so that their widgets update at the intended time."
After reading this, I decided to test a theory and set my alarm to go off 2 minutes later. The alarm went off, and sure enough I checked 5 minutes later and all widgets were frozen . . . So now I'm wondering if it has something to do with the 'Timely alarm clock' app that I'm using... Going to go back to stock Alarm clock and see if that makes a difference.
Just an update for anyone interested: I found other XDA users on Verizon that were having this same issue, and someone suggested that we try installing Nova launcher. Sure enough, after installing Nova two weeks ago and I haven't had one issue with my homescreen widgets freezing.
I highly recommend Nova, especially if you're experiencing some odd quirks with TW.
