My HDMI cable doesn't work. There's another thread in this section (look a little lower) where I've posted my problem with someone else that has the same issue...does anyone know if you need a special cable for it to work?

Well, it hides the menu bar on your TV when you're browsing your home screens., but I never got Plex to load my server (****ty network in my house) so I can't say what it does there.

Should be no problem. Although you get a special TV out menu on the screen as soon as you connect the adapter (similar to the menu which comes up when you slide out the keyboard) you can still start any application you want. I've tested CorePlayer with TV out and it works fine (unless of course you expect full HD picture quality).

Alot of products has DLNA.
My Samsung tv has it. =)
check out dlna.org for more information
Installation fails because touchwiz library is missing. Either this lib must be ported also or must be removed from the app. Both are quite tricky I believe.

iMediaShare is not free if you expect to see anything but a photo...
Some great thread necromancy going on here!
Regards,
Dave
well, i have a need.. dlna explained more too
@dave agreed.
well, i'm looking to start doing this since i do have a need for an app like this and few others. if you have win7 and media center, you have DLNA support on your pc.
plus, ps3 media server can be used too. anywho, DLNA is a streaming protocol that most vendors/manufacturers introduced to allow one to stream video to various type of products (tvs, boxes, pcs, handhelds, etc).
this app lets you either Receive a stream from a DLNA server or Setup your phone as a DLNA server and then watch your videos/pics on your PS3 or Home PC's media player app.
ok, explaining done, does anyone know what the first steps of removing the touchwiz library would be or where i'd start?

You are right. Hadn't noticed that.
BTW, for those discussing the other side, PS3 and others, ALL Windows 7 computers are DLNA enabled. So if you have a Win7 Media Center connected to your TV, you can hear music, see photos and videos on your TV via Allshare.
Well, I add my vote for an HTC version of this thing.
Any Sense 2.0 and above Rom already has DLNA capability.
Just hit Menu -> Select player while watching a movie/photo/whatever.

I'm trying to set up a VLC stream from my PC with all of my media to my phone. I'm hoping I can create a nice little media server with my 2TB of video so I can watch them any where, any time.
I can't find any new information for VLC on Android although I know the beta for the iPad was just released. Anyone know any more?
I've been looking for something like this as well, I've had no luck streaming anything. The only thing that has worked is orb and the quality sucks. I also had tversity running but its just to finnicky with x64 Windows 7. You may wanna try tversity if you have a atleast a core 2 machine running x86 xp.

There's no VLC for Android. The closest thing is RockPlayer and the built-in Browser/Video/Music player.
And VLC on your computer doesn't quite work that way, either. You can only have it set to be a streaming server (like an Internet radio/video station) and then watch/listen to that stream from your Browser. You can't control it unless you get a VLC remote app (search in the Market) at which point you'll have to disconnect from the stream to open the remote.
As for anything similar, there's plenty. I just don't know/use any.
checkout VLC Stream and Convert in the market. VERY COOL app. Allows you to control VLC on the PC from the phone, including stream video from the PC to phone. Even allows a basic browser to find the media. Video quality over wifi is great. Can't say I've tried streaming through the internet but I'd bet its pretty decent. Dev has a website with instructions
Ok i just tried this app and it works perfect.

I had the same problem on Fresh 3.2. If you can't get his lastest version of the app to work for you, then I pulled this apk off of a nandroid backup. It's of an older version that still works for me. (Still have to change port to 5554).
Also, per the developers warning, VLC 1.1.4 supposedly has audio streaming issues, so you'll probably want 1.1.3 also.
Hi guys
Im trying to find a app than can help stream movies and view other files on my PC. I havent had any luck so far and i tried searching but didnt end up with anything that feels simple enough?
On ipad there was a great app that made me able to view all files and play video that converted the files "live" so they were able to play on the pad. Was superb.
Anyone know anything like that?

here's what you do... first figure out what your static ip for your router is... try going to http://www.whatismyip.com/ this should tell u what your ip is... now go into your router... normally by typing 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 depeding on your router... now open up ports 6783 to 6786 in TCP mode (these numbers may change due to your settings in MyCloud Software) now go and manually set up a new connection using the static IP you got from the website and everything should work!!!!!

And just to add clarification, splashtop is a remote desktop tool not a media streamer as such, although as people have said depending on your connection it works just as well as one.

I'm not sure what you mean. I also use upnp and moboplayer and works great. Moboplayer can't stream from the network and mynet does not play any codec other than h.264. With upnp and moboplayer, I don't have to worry about what type of video/audio file it is.
I've been using Upnplay and Mobo player and that combo works great for files served by a media server. I would also like to play files directly from a network share without needing the media server. CifManager sounds perfect except it appears to require root. Any similar options that don't require root? Any other apps that would allow a network drive to be permanently mapped as a folder on the tablet?

First media sharing needs to be set up on your desktop (Google can help with this part) then as long as you are connected to the same home network as your desktop it will show up in upnplay just like it does in mynet (its name will be the set name of the PC). Then you can navigate via libraries or just via the folder paths to find your media files (this is how I do it to avoid setting up libraries). Once u have found your media file run the file using moboplayer/vplayer/etc. This will only work for video.
Hope that helps..

Thought I'd make a thread for things that do work well on the Sensation and may make people stick to this phone until the other issues are resolved.
DLNA function: I spent a few hours putting my Samsung TV on my network and I can send video, pics and music direct from my phone to my TV via Wifi from anywhere in the house and its very very good. I have a film in AVI and it steamed perfectly.
Forward SMS to email: I think this is in 2.3.3 anyway but useful when phone it unusable like at some work places.
Built in streaming: I can scan music, videos and pics from a file server and play them on the phone directly with no additional software.
Lexar 32 gig MicroSD Class 10: Definitly works fine in this phone. Check Amazon
Built in slideshow as wallpaper: I like having different background images randomly and this is good for that. Point it at a folder full of images (I have a folder full of downloaded landscapes, sea, etc., type images specifcally for this. It replaces the need for things like Wallpaper Rotator. Only snag is that it changes the images every 30 seconds or so so it maybe CPU intensive (doesn't seem to be though). I'd rather it was hourly but can't see anywhere to change it.
Please add others as you find them.
Lockscreen icons and lockscreen animations: I like having weather animations or my photos spinning around under the lock screen, looks cool. Also being able to change the lock screen icons does make that feature quite handy

If your streaming server is any good it can transcode .mkv on the fly to something the phone can play.
I'll go try it with an MKV file right now...bear with me, wife has the remote
I am using Windows 7 as the media server, btw
No good with MKV. None of the players on my phone will play it natively even though my Samsung TV plays them fine from a hardrive or memory stick. On my phone I have Divxplayer (or demoplayer) and moboplayer and they wont play it on the phone itself, let along anywhere else. Need a player that supports these. I think the Desire used to play MKV with Divxplayer but I don't think it likes the Sensation resolution.
Anyone any ideas?

Rockplayer may support MKV but it doesn't like the resolution or something because it drops out as soon as it starts to play. Actually Rockplayer plays MKV fine on my wife's Desire so it must be a resolution issue because as the Sensation is qHD
