[Q] Physical Button as Camera Shutter? - Thunderbolt General

I apologize if the answer to this is obvious. I tried searching the forums for an answer, and couldn't find anything.
What I'm wondering is whether there is a way to assign one of the volume buttons as the "take a picture" button for the camera. I'm rooted and running BAMF Remix 1.6. Thanks in advance.
Edit: Just found out that the volume buttons work as the zoom. So, what about using the power button?

I haven't used it personally, but there is an app named button remapper that might do the trick for you. Check the market for it.
Some third party camera apps let you use volume for snapping the picture also. I use the Vignette for that purpose.

I just checked out Vignette, and it's basically exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!

Does it? Sweet. I'm waiting on a stable CM build, though.

Hi,
Open the camera and on the bottom left there is a magic wand.
Press that and it will give you all the effectsanorama, distortion, vignette etc.
I don't have panorama in the list of effects

Then you don't have the modified camera apk installed. It is NOT a stock feature on the sensation.
Hmm, pretty sure I've done it before.

I can confirm that... I'm on Endymion currently and i see the purple line too... approx 3-4 pixels thick.
But to be fair to instagram, they do warn when selecting the advanced camera that it does not work on all devices...
Use Camera360 with Compatibility mode.

??? Why not just use the built in stock camera???
He wants to use instagram... And only has problem with the advanced camera inside of instagram. Just disable that option and you're good to go if your stock camera is OK. No sense using a third party camera of the problem is app specific.

The problem is with camera drivers from cm or the kernel.
The stock camera app has same problem.
That's why I use camera360 which have hardware compatibility mode.
Regards!

Oh ok...
Just wondering... are you talking about an ICS ROM? Or GB? I think the OP has lost interest after starting the thread, and left us here to squabble!!
If you ask me, i think this problem is app centred, and I encountered it even on Instagram running on GB 2.3.5 (I'm running Endymion - Sense 3.5) where the stock camera is the best you'll find for the Desire S on any ROM.
I'm using stock ROM. Obviously I'm aware I can disable the option of using Instagram's in-built camera, but this is not the solution I'm hoping for I love Instagram filters but I don't like the fact I have to come out of the app and open up stock Android cam app, resize it, and go back again. Using Instagram's advanced am feature is so much better.
The rest of the image is fine and the option works perfectly APART from this one really ruining fluorescent pink line down the left side of every image.

Well, that's a bug with the app... sit tight, with Instagram's growing popularity, they're bound to roll out updates with fixes to the camera anytime soon!
Regardless, there's nothing you or I could do to fix an app issue. Instagram will have to fix that.
When you still experiencing this using Instagram camera try to switch to front camera take a shot, then revert to back camera. Pink line gone now. Works for me.

Yeah, I was literally shocked when i got the device. Is there a button shortage in htc land.
I would love to know why they chose not to have one
I'm pretty sure this question has been addressed somewhere but I don't know if they got anywhere with it. My solution is to use a 3rd party camera app for those instances. There are a few that support the volume key as a shutter. Camera360, Camera ZOOM FX and Vignette are all capable of taking regular pictures using the volume. Just make sure you go through each ones settings to make sure its setup how you like. Vignette likes to take pictures with random effects until you tell it to stop on first startup for example.

HTC One X Camera App

Anyone have this or know where to get it? I love how you can take a picture directly from a video.

Yeah that's a neat commercial.
I'd like to play with that app too.
If you have jellybean running, this should work..

When i first saw this commercial i thought hmmm I have been doing this for a couple years now. I just record a video, then pause it where I want the pic, and take a screenshot. I've gotten some amazing action shots using this method. I'm sure their camera app streamlines the process a bit but works the same none the less.

Problem is pausing video typically results in sub standard quality. I'm speaking from typical downloads though, not raw footage.

Plus the fact that a lot of video players leave some form of info on screen, like time bar, video name info, or just a play button in, the middle of the screen showing you can tap to play.
My bad I guess it does leave stuff on the screen with android. I've only been using android for about 6 months now. I was speaking from my years of experience with iOS. I should have tried it before I posted I guess. Worked like a charm on my iPhone with no quality loss.

Couldn't really get it to work. I manually installed it, no force close or anything, just said it couldn't connect to the camera then closed.

Same here. It's for the GSIII so I assume there are some subtle differences.

haha it's like saying : I have a car but it doesn't drive , start or move, wait, it also doesn't have tires on it....
PS: Camera is a core system app...so much dependent on kernel and ROM...You can't take out a BMW gearbox and put it on a roof of a Honda and expect it to work !

For me the camera opens then force closes saying gallery has forced closed. It would be an awesome mod if we could get it to work.

LG opted to have less bloat so that's why. I think the camera is fine how it is, although options are always good.

Try a third party camera app with those settings, it's possible they're there just the stock app doesn't have control of them

Try this ... A Better Camera
I also recommend A Better Camera. It's what I use and I can confirm that even the free version allows you to control the ISO and White Balance settings (along with lots of other things too). I haven't seen anything about the stabilization settings, so I think you are out of luck there.
PS - you can change the stock action of holding down the volume down key when the screen is off and it can start A Better Camera instead of the stock camera if you want. That's what I do. I think I'm doing this with the G3 TweaksBox xposed module.
Image stabilization.... it's hardware, you can never turn it off

Try the stock Google Camera. I did several shots using it and the stock and favored the Google shots over the stock in 2 of the 4 comparisons. It doesn't have a lot of settings but ISO is one of them.
