With the stock browser, the page loads, is formatted correctly, but almost none of the images on the page load an the progress bar just hangs.
Stopping and refreshing the page just does the same thing. It happens with multiple websites, but I seem to have it mostly with bigger pages like engadget.com or androidcentral.com.
I have to reboot (or use the Fast Reboot utility) the tablet to get the browser working again.
Wondering if anyone else has seen this?
Do you get image placeholders with anything in them (an arrow, etc) where pictures/flash should be, or just white space? Also do you have it set up to announce itself as a desktop, tablet or mobile browser to web servers?
I have my stock browser user agent set as desktop. I visit engadget frequently and have not notice any problems you described. I so sometimes see a blank space where video should be, but clicking on the blank space plays video without problems. Stock browser is bit buggy to say the least, try other browsers and see if you have the same problems.
I just get blank spaces where the images should be. And the progress bar never completes like it's still trying to load those missing images.
Oddly though videos do show up on the page. It's only images that are not showing up.
I have the browser agent set to Desktop. I also have plugins set to always on, but did try on-demand for giggle, but no change.
Very strange. Maybe it's a good idea to try other browsers as buri73 suggested. I've heard good things about Dolphin HD since they updated it.
Opera Mobile and Dolphin HD don't have this problem. Just the stock browser.
I like using the stock browser because it syncs my desktop bookmarks and the UI is much better on a tablet to me.
Maybe I'll back things up and try a factory reset.
Glad it's not just me having this problem. It feels like the Browser just likes to pause for a few minutes when a page is only 75% loaded.
As an example, when loading the next page of search results on Google, it'll show the Google logo and search bar, sometimes the sidebar, and then the results will appear (sometimes) many seconds or even minutes later. It's long enough that it's easier just to go to my phone or laptop, enter the search terms, and load the same page.
Not tried other browsers yet.
While this has happened to me a few times, I generally force stop browser rather than reboot.

The stock browser does the same thing to me at times. I have it set to desktop and sometimes it seems to crawl when loading a page. If I go to the same page in Dolphin it seems to load fine. The stock browser doesn't do it all the time but its frequent enough where.

I personally think opera mobile (the newest version) is the best one out there. Absolutely zero lag. Compatible with everything I throw at it. I don't understand why people insist on hating it or not using it. It's the best one out there.
I like Opera but there are some things that bug me:
- Google always shows up in mobile view, its annoying to have to always scroll down to click classic.
- The tabs system is slow, I prefer the way the stock browser has them
- You cant always go back to the start page, most of the time you have to open a new tab instead of being able to use the speed dial.
The new Dolphin HD is nice but I don't like not having back and forward buttons, and that you have to scroll back to the top of the page to type in a URL. In the stock browser all you have to do is click the tab and the buttons show.
I don't like the blocks that happen in the stock browser when scrolling, but I really love the quick controls. It generally seems less buggy than the other browsers as well.
Opera actually almost is the best browser but on some pages they never load fully & on some pages even with flash enabled some things show up as a big arrow that would play just fine on Dolphin Hd.Opera is the only browser i can check my gmail just as i could on my desktop..Dolphin HD is lacking there.Opera needs another update to fix the bugs.Lastly why on earth does everything load on Opera halfway (for instance pictures). If you hold on the pic it will give you the option to "Reload image in full quality" !!! Wtf..how about loading that way in the first place lol...I'll stick with Dolphin Hd for now.

Weird. Nothing has shown up as mobile view for me for a month now. I think you need to play around more with settings.

You can solve this by setting the User Agent to Desktop in Advanced settings.

Look like you have Opera Turbo enabled, which means that Opera loads the pages though a proxy server which compresses pages for faster loading over slow connections. This will speedup your loading over slow connections, but if you've got a fast connection you should not use it.
You can disable Opera Turbo in the settings.
I find the Dolphin for Pad browser very good:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.dolphin.browser.pad&feature=search_result
None
The day I can go to vimeo.com or youtube.com and play an HD 720p video without having to maximize the screen (without ANY stutter) is the day I'll name a best browser. As it stands, none to me are the best. They all have flaws with flash.
Argh nevermind the part about "reload image in full quality ".I see what it is now lol.Dolphin for pad needs an update bad!!!

I like dolphin for pad. Opera is not bad, but for me it's a bit slow to start showing the site, and some site I use quite a lot has a little bug in the render. Also, I don't like the tab system.
You can go to the top in Dolphin HD by using the gesture button on the bottom left. Just make an upside down V and it'll bring you right up.
All the browsers need to add some better swipe gestures however...like Atomic Browser for ios. It has 2 Finger swipe left or right to switch between tabs or 3 finger touch to maximize screen. They're customizable as well.
Goodintentions why dont you put a poll on this thread of the top ten browsers?

dolphin

I have to say opera mobile hands down. Not to be confused with opera mini. They are 2 different browsers...especially in terms of performance. But yes, opera mobile is an absolutely fantastic browser both on my nexus s and transformer. Blows every other browser out the water. Very fast UI. Very smooth scrolling and zooming. Flash content etc. It must have deep gpu / hardware acceleration i think. It behaves like a dream. What every browser should be.

It does, and it's the only browser to do so (which is why scrolling is silky smooth on Opera and crap on everything else). Even the stock Android browser doesn't have it yet...

The browser will be available for all versions of the Android OS. New features in this version of Opera Mobile include hardware acceleration and pinch-to-zoom. According to the company, hardware acceleration leverages the power of the mobile phone to allow for increased speed, faster navigation, and more fluid interaction with the phone. It also makes possible full pinch-to-zoom functionality for all sites.

I do have it set to the desktop user agent, and Opera does the same thing on my phone. Typing a search in the URL or search bar always brings up the mobile version. I have gone through and changed the user agent in the about:config page without any luck either.

Spoken like a true ipad user. Complain rather than try to find a solution.
The search bar is a mobile search bar, yes. Would it kill you to not use it? Just put google homepage (the desktop one) in your favorite and go there whenever you want to search for something.
Many of us have already written to opera about this. I'm confident they will fix this in upcoming updates.
To me, this is one drawback that is easily avoidable. With built in hw acceleration and functions... screw it.
Just don't use opera at all. If you prefer the lagginess of other browsers, be my guess. Don't ever try to go around anything. Just complain.

Excuse me? Im complaining because I don't like a bug that lots of other people have reported? Ive tried every "solution" in the book to try and fix it but none work. I like Opera and have been using it for a year but it doesn't mean the mobile bug is any less irritating.

Already told you the solution. Its the same one I use. Just put Google homepage in favorite and go there when you want to search. How hard can it be?
I use the stock browser because it provides what I want (tabs, chrome bookmark sync) and performs reasonably enough for browsing; I still remember surfing at 3.4K/s .
Opera is what I use on my phone because it seriously kicks the Froyo stock browser to timbucktu on performance. I do think Opera Mobile's UI is much better suited to a tablet than the HC stock though.
Opera mobile is indeed faster and smoother in terms of scrolling compared to all the other browsers. UI response is also very quick. However, Opera has serious issues with Flash. Opera would crash on my TF for some flash content and flash videos are really slow to load and would stutter while Dolphin HD and even stock would play much smoother.
I like Opera, its my usual web browsing browser. But if I need flash content, I switch to Dolphin HD.
I usually don't have this problem, because I splashtop for my computer for all webbrowsing normally. I'm out of the house on wifi and splashtop dies, so I'm unable to connect to my computer :/ Then I pop up the stock browser to browse here, and work on my schoolwork (Which is a badly coded flash site x.x) Stock browser refuses to recognize flash (for whatever reason, I reinstalled and still no.) Thats out. Download Dolphin, flash works but, button 'Start class' (javascript) refuses to work, and the pages glitch and are wonky. That's out. Opera, won't recognize flash, out. Google chrome beta, crashes instantly, out. Firefox normal, no flash out. Firefox beta new, no flash for Tegra 2, out. Maxthon (my old fav from ARHD) Same problems as Dolphin... Broken buttons/page layouts. I feel like I'm trying to browse the web on my lg cosmos 2 dinosaur phone with all these app related problems (ok exaggeration but still...) The only one I got to work was Skyfire, but it's bugging the crap out of me with page layout and speed. Is there a browser that can perform exactly the same as a desktop browser does? Or at least load pages properly? It's extremely annoying that pages don't load or layout/flash doesn't work. Ugh. I use mozilla on my computer and it works amazingly connected through splashtop, but I need a backup...
/endrant
Are you stock, non-rooted, etc? Running any custom ROMs or kernels?
I love using dolphin for pad it's really good, fast too.
You can try Boat browser
Dolphin seems to mess up page layout and buttons don't work, but it is the fastest. I don't care about speed.. as much, as having perfectly layed out pages like a desktop browser. I'll check out boat and report back. I'm running Guevor's latest kernel on AOKP b37 euroskank build atm, so yes, rooted rommed cwm whatever's needed.
I know you said that Chrome Beta crashes instantly on your site, but in general it's my go-to browser when something's displaying not-quite correctly on other browsers, since its rendering is derived from desktop Chrome. It works on my university's sites, which are horrible in all of the other browsers I have tried.
If you have a static (or at least infrequently changing) IP address at home, you could try forwarding a port to use Splashtop from anywhere on the internet (expect a performance hit). I do that with Windows' built in Remote Desktop and "Jump Desktop", super useful.
Thanks for the suggestion! I already have that all set up though
It's just kinda slow to use just to quickly look something up, I was hoping that a browser exists that won't super bork webpages.
Hopefully chrome will work in an update
The version of Chrome just released stopped me from either throwing this thing at a wall or (more likely) unlocking and flashing. Up until today, every browser, including Chrome, would load to 90%, then hang for ten seconds or so. If I tried to interact with the page in any way before it finished loading, I'd get the dreaded "xxxx isn't responding, Would you like to close it?.... Wait - OK".
This version (25.0.1364.169), will let me scroll around freely and start reading text while it continues loading pictures and ads. Amazing!
Of course, I will probably unlock and flash a rom eventually, I just wanted to use it for a few months with warranty and maybe wait for 4.2.2 to be released first. I have had very few complaints with the device besides that hanging/error message issue.
I still prefer the stock browser with the Labs 'swipe from edge' hidden address bar feature, but maybe something like that will come to Chrome eventually. Does anyone know how to auto-hide the address bar and tabs in this version of Chrome? Meantime I will use Chrome for all sites where full screen viewing is not vital.

Hmm it's still very laggy compared to CROMI and stock browser I'm afraid.
I agree with sbdags cromi and stock browser combo is smoother and more responsive, even compared to latest chrome release . Actually I've found that to be the case for any other browser as well.
Seconded.
I too have a huge performance increase with the new chrome. I'm on CM10.1 so the improvements must not be specific to stock. Glad you posted this :good:; I'd given up on chrome because of laginess. Now I can have my "other devices tab" and good performance at the same time. Biggest noticeable change for me is (as you found) scrolling while pages load.
Noticed the Chrome update this a.m.
Tried it on the usual sluggish java heavy websites still not as snappy as stock under CROMi + B2Ram.
Chrome is slightly better with this update...it's just not a preference with me over stock or BOAT ad free.
For the people using chrome on stock its the Brest version so far. A lot of things got better. Page loading is a lot better when compared to the older version. And the scrolling is great too.
I thought that browser2ram worked with Chrome as well, or was that a specially tweaked version?
@sbdags: I thought I'd seen a Chrome-capable version in CROMI before?
If this is the case, well, then Chrome is just still slower than stock anyway. I love speed dials, but I hate them being so limited in number. The sync capabilities were nice, but ever since the stock browser started supporting sync too I haven't looked back. I traditionally hated stock browser -- be it on Android or on Windows -- but the current one on Android is pretty good with browser2ram attached.
Just thought id chime in on this. Unfrtunately cannot report the same decreased lag with the new Chrome update. In fact, id say it is worse. Unusable actually, which is no loss for me as i use stock...... which is a lag-machine as well, just slightly less so. Ironically, of all the websites i visit regularily, XDA seems to be the most taxing and almost always will produce a FC if i dont let it fully load before attempting to scroll. When i test a browser update i come here to see how fast the page loads!!!
At any rate, i deal with it and still love this tab....

Agreed, google chrome is slow, and it wont allow flash, fck google chrome, a browser is useless without flash bc you can barely access any content that isnt text or pics, accessing content is the whole point of the internet. Browsing was a headache until i started using stock browser with B2RAM. browser2RAM more than doubles browsing speed, responsiveness, and smoothness. Stop dicking around with stock ASUS tf700, it is a waste of your time. All the time you spend waiting to browse the web can be spent on ACTUALLY DOING SOMETHING.

Web content is in HTML and images - Flash is a proprietary disease and must die as soon as possible.
Hi there,
I'm new, so I can not post a message in the dev forum yet. So i hope someone can help me out.
I flashed my girlfriends tf300t with CromXi 4.7. Everything works butter smooth, but do not use the disable fsync feature. To risky for me.
The problem I have is with browsing some websites. I will give you 2 urls.
zalando.nl
tablet.hm.com
When broswing to zalando, with the default browser, chrome or dolphin with jetpack, i get the error message "....doublickick.net url not found" in to frames on the main page.
I already removed the ad blocker app, but still no result. On my iPad it shows perfect and I can not figure out what the problem is. On any other android tablet it also works perfectly. So CromXi is blocking doubleclick some how.
When browsing to tablet.hm.com (yes, she likes shopping online) with the dolphin browser and you click for instance man -> schoenen and scroll down, you see the main top bar rebuilding itself. This does not happen with chrome or the default browser.
Dolphin is still the best browser of them all.
The irritating thing with the default browser is that the url bar disappears when you stop scrolling. I can not figure out how to disable this "feature".
I don't want to use chrome, because it's irritatingly slow. Same goes for firefox.
Hope you can help me out.
Solved the problem on tablet.hm.com. It was the Jetpack. After disabling it, the top menu bar stayd while scrolling and didn't rebuild it self.
Leaves the doublick.net block with every browser. Strange problem.....

Well the problem is with every browser, not just dolphin. And it is on the tf300.
So when browsing to zalando.nl with Chrome, Dolphin or the default browser on the TF300T with CROMI-X, I see page could not be found with the url ....doubleclick.net. I also have this on othe webpages who uses doubleclick.net.
The same happens when searching in google and clicking an advertisement link in the top of the page. the error shown sais "Page not available. ....googleadservices.com/.....". This is also in chrome, dolphin and the default browser.
I have no idea what the problem is and it looks like its blocking advertisement links.
It's definately not the network, because i don't see the error on a galaxy tab with the stock rom or ipad. I also didn't have this problem with the stock Asus Rom. So it has to be something in Cromi-X.
I already removed the adblocker, but still the problem remains.

SOLVED
Oke, so it's ofcourse my mistake.
What I did was disable the adaway blocker through configuration - apps. I just disabled the app. What i didn't know was that the app changed the hosts file. So after reenabling the app and disabling it through the app itself, it showed my the message to restore the default hosts file.
After a reboot everything works just perfectly!!
Here's the setup: I load theverge.com (full desktop view) on Chrome, let it load completely, then hit home and open something else. Whenever I multitask back to Chrome, it reloads theverge.com (I'm using that site because it's very heavy) every single time. I tried this on both stock Chrome and Chrome Beta with the same results. I also have a Moto X. When I test the same thing, the page NEVER reloads. My Note 3 also doesn't have this issue.
It's not a RAM issue. There is almost a gig free when this happens. This is the same behavior that the HTC One X and other android phones with 1 GB of RAM used to experience.
My question to you is this: Has anyone else noticed this? Multitasking back to the browser and your page refreshes (even if it's the only tab you have open)? There's literally no excuse for this to happen on this phone.
Update: I also tested this with other web pages and they are doing the same thing. Each time I multitask away to another app, then come back to the browser, whatever page I left off on refreshes. It's acting like a low memory issue, but maybe it's just (too) aggressive memory management.
