Screen Filter - great app that could improve battery life! - Thunderbolt General

It allows you to decrease the brightness below the lowest stock setting. I use it constantly. My battery does seem to last longer with it. By how much? I couldn't tell ya. It's worth a shot though.

It's a great app, I used it all the time on my DX but the TB screen is so dim already I have no need for it anymore

Same as the guy above me. The TB minimum brightness is way lower than the DX. If you can see the screen while using it, I'll be impressed, more power to you!

Auto screen brightness

Is anyone else having issues with the auto screen brightness? I'm in bed now with all the lights off and my screen is at it's brightest. As far as I can remember, the screen has never gone dim for me. I have always had to do it manually.

Same problem here.

Mine seems to work. I always thought it worked based on where the bar is set prior to the checkmark.

I use Quick Settings to adjust the brightness. The auto on this phone definitely isn't working correctly.
Mine works just fine. Dim when it's bright around me, bright when it's dark around me.

I feel like mine does change some, but it never seems like it's a really accurate change to the condition... or maybe I just think it does, hmm.

That's backwards. You want the brightness down when it's dark, because less light is needed to see the screen, and up when it's light, because more brightness is needed to see the screen.
I as well have had issues with the auto brightness. It never seems to change. I manually set it, or leverage a widget.
Mine works but it adjusts too frequently. It was annoying to see it going brighter and dimmer every minute or two so I tuned it off and use a widget.
Thanks, Robrecht

Glad to see I'm not crazy and imagining things. Very surprised at how many little quirks HTC let slip by on the thunderbolt.

I have always disliked auto-brightness. At night when I'm reading a book in bed, it is just way too bright at the lowest auto-bright setting. Though it was nice to automatically brighten up when I'm outside. Now days, I just stick an Android power control on the home screen and manage it myself. 0% for when I'm in bed reading books, 30% for normal every day use, 100% for when I'm outside. It seems to help the battery quite a bit too.
Its best to adjust it manually anyways... Just add a widget on your home screen lolz
What's best is not always whats preferred. It's little things like auto not working that make me miss my cyanogen'd droid 1

Data off while screen off?

Is there an app or setting that is in the hidden menu so that while the screen is off data is off... I know they have the setting for wifi but I'm hardly around wifi except at home, and I'm hardly ever home... which is why I would like to save as much battery as possible.

JuiceDefender does not work well with any stock based rom like Weapon. For stock based rom you have to use the new beta version.

Will try later, I have juice defender before but it was just a nuisance and didn't see any real change. Maybe I'll look into it some more, thanks.

Tasker can do it easily. There's really no reason to ever use Juice Defender, Tasker can do everything it can do and so much more.

Tasker is a great app but some people don't use paid apps and juice defender can do what the OP needed in the free app.. But if you don't mind the $6 and some change its a great app

Unless you go outside.
Juice Defender Ultimate has some brightness settings that let you tune the auto brightness. You can get it a lot darker than you normally can, and change the way it ramps up and down.
I mainly use it as a way to keep the phone from blinding me in the car or desk dock at night and still letting itself ramp to full brightness in sunlight.
As long as you live under a rock, minimum brightness should work. If you do go outside, either use the power widget to quickly change settings or just use auto. i personally like auto.

And don't forget on manual brightness you can change brightness just by sliding your finger across the top.

Lol,I forgot about that handy little tool. I been chewing my kids out cuz they kept turning it up when i let em play on it.ot so I thought.
I had much more luck just long pressing the notification bar where I want the brightness. Swiping it gave mixed results.

Could use some suggestions.

I've used every rom on XDA and they're all great in their own way. I'm currently running the latest miui by whitehawkx. At first it was great but now I'm getting slow down and random loss of signal that only returns with a restart. I also have problems with the screen not turning back on properly. I press the lock button and the screen will light up like its about to turn on or it will flash the lockscreen for a second then go blank. Only fix is to relock then unlock again, quite a pain.
I'm looking for a daily rom that will get me at least 9 hours of battery life, is fast and responsive. Like I said, I've used all of the roms here but I don't want to go through the hassle of setting everything up for each rom and testing for multiple days to make a choice. Personal choices are welcome but please say why you like it.
On a side note, does anyone know why updates have pretty much stopped for all the roms our phone can use?
Thank you!

Try Weapon 3. I have been using it for a few weeks without any problems. Better battery life is accomplished with turning off GPS, Bluetooth and data when you're not using them. As well, don't run unnecessary apps and don't overclock.

Was actually in the process of downloading weapon. I can't shut data off since I need constant access to my email but otherwise I already do the other things. I've only been able to get about 10 max on my phone regardless of the rom, might have a bad battery.

I used GiggleBread with Trinity kernel and got over 25 hours as a max. On average I'd be around 16-18 hours with that combo. Try that. And this is with moderate use.
Wtf is gigglebread? If its on xda then I stand corrected in my statement that Ive used all the roms.

Amazing auto brightness app has saved my EVO

As we all know our evos have a tendency of killing battery and according to Android our batteries die #1 reason through display well I have found an amazing that is very customizable and has saved my battery tremendously its called lux auto brightness and it works great just thought id let our EVO comunity know about it cause its awesome and I just found out aboutt it and dev gurantees a refund even after googly tiny little 15 min here's a picture for how much it has helped before this app I normally got around 15 hrs
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
How much batt life does it save vs using htc auto?
Well normally I get 15 hrs of heavy use and I'm getting around 20-23 so about 5 hrs
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
woah thats a huge difference!!! Ill test it out once I get armon working. These extended batteries are great! I havent touched OEM since lol
have pro version installed but i dont think i have it set up right cuz whenever i unlock screen outside it stays on 15% brightness and i CANT SEE SH*T on my screen...have to open app and hit auto brightness to see. So if you could explain how to use this would be great!
Just open it up go to settings set it up how you want make sure you add it to notification bar and it should be on auto also there's like 4 differnt options for it to change, I choose dynamic, there should be a guide when you first open app, but inside app if you click the gear looking thing on the dashboard it takes you to the main app and you can click lux splash screen and you'll find a tutorial there that is very helpful
