[Q]Where do I find a full stock rom of 2.3.3 for my i9023, xxxKB3, GRI54? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
Anyone could guide me to where can I find the source to download the full stock rom for the I9023, xxxKB3, GRI54 so that I can flash this into my phone and overwrite my current CM7 before manually flashing to 2.3.4's stock rom and then reroot it again. Will really appreciate it.
Stan.

There is a full 2.3.4 rom available for your phone.

the "released" link under I9023 has a full rom file in this thread.

Issue is I'm currently rooted and on CM7's rom which means I can't just apply the 2.3.4 full rom over it, it won't work this way. Thus I need to flash my phone back to the stock 2.3.3 rom but I can't seem to find one for my phone

hmm.. i think a full rom is a stock rom.. it will prolly wipe everything, but bring you to stock 2.3.4.
i only read about needing a stock rom when _updating_ with an update file, which is way smaller..
i poested that in the sticky for the otas.. maybe wait, if someone else confirmes that =)
edit: i don't think rooted is a problem, i was rooted myself. it just was gone when i applied the full rom.

so I should try getting the full rom for my 9023, gri54 and just apply update from sdcard at recovery?
After apply CM7'S rom, I noticed my build changed to gri40, will it affect? The available rom for the 9023 is meant for gri54 only

well, i think it doesn't matter what you have right now, since it's a full rom, not an update. so cm7 well be gone after install and you have a pure android rom.
so either if you are on gri40 or gri54 it doenst matter, cause you will be grj22 afterwards, as long you have an i9023.
before this full rom came up, some ppl downgraded to gri40, in order to use the update grj22-from-gri40. an update requires the correct version installed, but not when using a full rom.
and yeah, just use recovery and install from sd-card. root will be gone and you be having stock recovery again.
hope that helps..

This definitely helped alot.! So I just format /data and /cache and I'm good to go ahead and flash?

i don't think u even need to do that.. flashing that rom should wipe everything..
at least i think so.. anyway, since u are going from cm7 to stock rom, ur system is gonna be new..
let me know if it worked!
don't forget, if wann root again afterwards, u need to flash a custom recovery again!

my only worry is that after reading about in the forums. After flashing the full 2.3.4's rom onto my phone and thereafter flashing CWM into it again, it won't stay permanently. Any ideas how to go about solving this?

Locking and unlocking the bootloader again should reset the phone to stock rom and factory defaults, wouldn't it?

didn't realise that cwm recovery will be gone afterwards, since i still was able to flash superuser file with cwm. just saw i'm back to stock recovery ;b
found the same as u did in the guide sticky thread to work around that
so did flash the full rom already?

If you are running CM7 at the moment, stock ROM won't magically appear just because you did lock/unlock.
It will sure wipe data/SD clean, but stock ROM can't just pop up out of no where

Just format your /system partition, wipe data/factory reset, wipe dalvik, then install 2.3.4 full ROM. To make CWM stick, you have 2 options
1) Without rebooting after you flashed 2.3.4, stay in CWM, use adb
Code:
adb remount
adb root
adb shell mv /system/etc/install-recovery.sh{,.bak}
or you can delete it if you want...I did
adb shell rm /system/etc/install-recovery.sh
2) Root -> reboot -> install ROM Manager -> install CWM -> delete/move /system/etc/install-recovery.sh

Help: Bricked my NS4G

I rooted my Nexus S 4G and was running MIUI but decided to go back to the stock ROM for awhile. When attempting to go back over to MIUI, I can no longer get into Recovery and now the stock ROM won't boot either, stuck on loading animation.
I'm on a Mac, is there anything I can do? Thanks

Boot into boot loader. Use fastboot to flash a recovery. Reinstall your rom of choice.
Thanks, I was able to get Recovery working again and after trying a few things was able to get back into my ROM, but I'm still not able to flash back and forth different ROMs. Seems my root isn't sticking with this method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=970237
The root file on there is for ecalir/froyo only. Go into rm>download rom> superuser and download "superuser 2.3.6.3 efgh" and that should work.

did you wipe data(factory reset) before flashing different roms? you have to. you dont need to wipe data only when updating the same rom.
Ahhh, that must be my problem. I got so used to not wiping on MIUI that I assumed I could jump between ROMs without wiping. Thank you and apologies for the remedial posts.

How to start?

Hi!
I just bought Nexus S i9023 and don't know how to start flashing roms, kernels etc. I was reading about that I must unlock bootloader first, flash cwm recovery and then i can finally flashing roms. Is it right? I have few questions about this device, here they are:
1. How are kernels flash? Is it flashing by recovery like update.zip?
2. I have Gingerbread currently, but I want to update to JB, can I first off apply the update in recovery or I have to update to ICS first? Can you provide me a link to updates?
3. http://android.clients.google.com/packages/ota/google_crespo/9ZGgDXDi.zip this is JellyBean for i9023, right?
4. What are the kernel and rom combo most stable and fast?
5. Internal memory is working like a SD card, so if I will make a nandroid backup, it will not erase my data while doing full wipe ... ?
6. I'm currently using my private MIUI GB on my Xperia X8, which was ported from SGS. Is there any multilanguage MIUI GB rom anywhere?
7. Which is the flashing order? Kernels first? Or roms?
Thanks for replies, guys!
:cyclops:
Yes, you must unlock the bootloader, which will wipe EVERYTHING on your phone before you can flash your desired recovery and root. Kernels are flashed through recovery, after a ROM is flashed, otherwise it will generally be overwritten if a new ROM is flashed. No need to go to ICS to get to jb if you are flashing a full ROM. The memory referred to as internal is not what is used as an SD card. The SD/USB memory is the external memory. A nandroid doesn't back this up.

I just picked up a secondhand i9020T. It's running stock jelly bean, but it looks like the previous owner had some custom ROMs installed. The bootloader is unlocked and clockwork mod recovery is installed. I don't seem to have root access. Can I just flush a full ROM, like CM10 through clockwork even though I don't have root access? Will doing that provide root in CM10, or is that going to cause a problem. Thanks.

You might could get by just flashing cm10 and gapps, but I would start by flashing superuser, or super su for jb.

Yo, thanks, I successfully unlocked my bootloader and flashed cwm, then installed fresh miui jb and gapps. I searching for good kernel for daily usage, with good performance, can you recommend me any?

So i'm a little confused. The stock rom as of now has the superuser app, but when I open something that tried to pull root access (titanium backup or root checker for example) the superuser app does not come up, and root access is not available. Thoughts? When I flashed ROMs on my old transform, root seemed to travel with the kernel - but I just want to make sure I can flash a rooted ROM+kernel through recovery without having root access. Sorry if these questions are a bit naive - I'm trying to work through the other guides and Q+A to try to figure this out, but I'm still not clear. Also, sorry for sort of hijacking your thread, but the topic seemed like a good fit. Thanks in advance for all help.
*Edit - Fixed root access in stock rom by flashing new SU app through CWM from link posted in second post of this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1918490&highlight=have+clockworkmod+but+no+root
Last question, if I flashed JellyBean based rom, can I flash Gingerbread based by following the steps like formatting system etc. in recovery previously?
The su app from the play store is just an app. as you found, flashing the su zip is the only way to actually get the su access.
Anytime you flash a new rom, it is highly recommended that you perform a full wipe, after making a nandroid, of course. The steps I follow are factory reset/data wipe (this will also take care of cache & dalvic cache since they are on the data partition) then go to mind and storage to format /system & /boot.
If you haven't already I suggest using titanium backup & the pro key if you can. I have it set to automatically backup everything every 2 days, and I also make a new one each time I get ready to flash anything. Don't restore any system apps per data off you change roms though. The only reason I backup the system stuff is so I can restore my texts & call log with the proper time stamps.

From unrooted Gingerbread Arc to Ultimate HD rom

Hello,
I'm new to rooting/modding/roms, and I wanna install the awesome Ultimate HD rom on my locked, unrooted Xperia Arc LT15i:
Gingerbread
Android Version: 2.3.4
Build: 4.0.2
I don't know where to start.
The page of the Ultimate HD rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1920207) says:
- For Unlocked Bootloaders: Flash the Recomnend Kernels; Adv. Stock Kernel
- For Locked Bootloaders: Root your phone using this tutorial:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1683957
I don't think I gotta start with this page ^
I wanna unlock the bootloader, that's step 1 I think (via http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1034087)
But what's the best way to root and make my Arc ready to install the Ultimate HD rom?
I saw some pages like this about rooting:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133650 & http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1874801
But I don't know which one is good and which Kernel I gotta use to go from:
Xperia Arc unrooted 2.3.4, 4.0.2
to
rooted, unlocked with the Adv. Stock kernel Ultimate HD rom.
Do I have to install the official ICS update first on my Arc?
first off all you got to unlock the boot loader
follow instructions here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1794800
generally when you unlock the boot loader and install a custom rom, it comes with root so rooting is not required.
when your done reply back to me
Thanks for the info. I was going to unlock the bootloader via the link, but I was wondering:
If I unlock the bootloader, will it delete all my SD data/format SD? I really don't want to lose my SD data

sorry but when you unlock the bootloader, the sd card must be wiped not matter how you do it.
You can take out the sd card when you unlock the bootloader, that might work.

I just unlocked my Arc bootloader without the sd card and it worked!
Now I'm wondering what the next step is before I can install the Ultimate rom ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1920207)
Is it possible to go straight from unlocked Gingerbread to an ICS based rom? Can I now just put the rom zip on my sd and install via CWM?
Or do I need to do something with a Kernel or something first?

nope you need a ics based kernel, usually the rom includes the kernel, but not always, I don't have an arc so I can't recommend what kernel you should use. Anyway, it seems that there is kernel included. You will need this flash tool if you don't have it already
http://androxyde.github.com/index.html?1359317663000
here are the instructions
click the lightning icon,
plug in you device into fastboot mode
click fastboot mode and okay
click select kernel to flash
choose you img file
and reboot
some points to remember.
flashing will wipe your all your app data but won't touch any pictures or movie files; always make a nandriod backup
remember to wipe data/ factory reset before flashing
wiping cache and davik cache won't hurt either
click thanks if helped

yes you can flash any kernel even if your rom is not compatible with it, you just won't be able to boot up if you have a ics kernel and a gingerbread rom, however you will just need to flash the ics rom to get it working.
oh and remember that many kernels require you to flash modules in order to get things like wifi

nope the cwm (or twrp) is part of the kernel so doing a factory reset will not delete it.
In fact do you the wiping with cwm.

Appreciate. So I now will backup and wipe everything and then update it with kies mini. And then will ask more about custom stuff, am I doing right?
The problem about SGS4G is that it is WAY TOO MUCH information about it as well as kernels, mods, articles and you are lost because some of them conflicts with other.
P.S. I spent a week for going into Android stuff and Galaxy S.

it's because 2.2 version is so hard for modding that I didn't risk to update from it.

The guide seems good enough but a bit more complicated that it should be. Anyway here are two tips or info for you. First, whatever you do, have Odin and Stock Firmware ready to flash coz when everything else fails, Odin to the rescue and also flash stock firmware (Rom+kernel) whenever you change kernel as changing kernels without doing so removes root access and you cant apply root update on a custom kernel unless it has pre root access. Second, you dont need any kind of manager to flash firmwares and updates. CWM is a replacement to all. But its all your choice.

[Q] Please help

i did a full factory reset and all the swipe data(system and data). i earlier had a custom thought this would take me to my stock rom.now its stuck with the google symbol, wat have i done and wat do i do to fix this
A factory reset cannot restore the rom. By wiping system you also deleted your current rom.
To get back to stock, fastboot flash the stock images. There's a thread with full instructions linked in my signature
If yoga decide to root again, read the thread stuck at the top of q&\ labeled "read this before you root"

jst for my better understanding. i have deleted my rom and my device is without a rom now. but we do have to wipe system when installing a custom rom. so is there a way i'll be able to push the custom rom into the device's storage and install it. would that work
Yes you can adb push a rom on to there but I'd recommend doing the above first. Simply because you didn't understand what you had done or why you did it means you have a bit more learning to do yet. Not trying to offend but being rooted needs knowledge so I recommend acquiring that before trying again.
